Gauge is adorable! There's plenty of space to move around in and a nice seating area right in the middle of the room. There is an open room in the back where they offer classes. I happened to walk in during a one-on-one crochet pattern class and from what I overheard, the student was getting down! They have a beautiful selection of yarns and needles of all sizes. A lot of animal fiber yarn, but enough vegan friendly stuff to make plenty of whatever your little vegan heart desires.

I walked in to Gauge Knits, with well, nothing. I left with the start to a pillow case. I've been knitting for awhile now. I can do the very basics. I walked in to see several women sitting around a table by a large window, laughing and knitting. Carle asked if she could help me and I said I didn't know where to begin.... She picked my brain some and helped me come up with an idea. She was more than happy to help me figure out what I could and couldn't do and even let me sit and get started. The women there all seemed like good friends, partly joined by knitting, although I think their friendship went further back than that. They talked of knitting like a heroin addiction--once you get started, it's like you can't stop. It's kind of hard to find, if you don't know what you're looking for. That Exxon by Chez Zee? It's right across from it, by the dentist. Look for the green awning. You can rent out the back room for parties if you like. There was tea and chocolates available. One of the women said, to her frustrated friend, to eat chocolate, that it helps! Please support them! I really want to see them do well. The prices seem fairly reasonable, although I really only looked at the yarn I was buying.

My mom is obsessed with knitting and she wanted to find some yarn stores while we were in Austin for the day. I found this place on yelp and decided to take her here. She was really happy when we walked through the doors. We were immediately greeted by the ladies that worked here and they were very friendly and helpful. They had a nice selection of yarn colors, qualities, and materials. I saw some patterns on display and they even had a room where you could find some yarn on clearance and some books for rental. I definitely would recommend coming here if you're looking for yarn from all over the world and if you have any questions definitely ask the ladies that work there because they know their stuff and are very willing to help. I don't knit or crochet, but I wouldn't mind coming here from time to time with my mom to check this place out.

Nice selection of yarns and notions, and this year I see hand made soaps. This is the #1 shop in the 2016 Yarn Crawl based in its proximity to the Texas Capitol. I like it, much friendlier than last year. The parking situation sucks. Chez Z restaurant is next door and I heard it is really good.

I found some things I wasn't looking for, but that I needed and wanted. I saw beautiful pieces I wanted just for myself, like separate or broken jewelry pieces--a clasp here for a necklace or a link for a watch. Also, I recently picked up an old knitting habit and wanted to replace some old yarn. It was nice to see an area dedicated to yarn, other crafts, and other hobbies. I can say I really got lost inside the store, discovering so much. I saw some frames to purchase to make a gallery wall. So, I will say this: if you need to revise a place or restock on some office supplies, please come here. Or if you just need some ideas on creating a space in your home, come here; it's a place where anyone can get a lot of ideas and inspiration.

Ohhh emmm geee... this place is amazing! I've been wanting to check this place out for a long time…read moreand for some reason it never worked out. But Sunday it was meant to be. This place made my artsy creative heart happy, but also made my need for things to not go to waste happy. Literally any craft project you can think of, they're going to have supplies for it and they're going to be dirt cheap! They also have greeting cards, They also have seasonal decor, jewelry, vintage items, stationary, frames, the list could go on forever. Good idea to just go check it out because I promise you will find something you've been looking for and didn't want to pay full price for!!

It is an open space with all sorts of art supplies, tools, and just about anything your imagination can muster up. Lots of inspiration. I was hoping to make more than just one small block and have different supplies like fabric for printing. It was very therapeutic to carve my small block. The class felt a little scattered - but it was a very easy going environment, super relaxed. Our instructor was friendly and encouraged us to tap into originality without overthinking it instead of looking up patterns or inspo on our phone. I really liked that. And she offered us all coffee, freshly made. You can basically come in to do all the arts and craft your heart desires, on a donation basis. Affordable and unique way to release your artistic side without investing too much in all the supplies and then an abandoning a hobby. I'd come back with a friend and check out a different class.

They had construction paper, ribbons, highlighters, stamps, hot glue guns, and anything you might find at Michael's. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and showed us how she made her lanterns. She walked us step-by-step through the process. Now, I'm not a crafty person, but I was inspired enough by the ambiance and overflow of art supplies to get some creative juices flowing. At the end, I was able to create my own lanterns with some creative twists. I had a fun time and will recommend my crafty friends to check this place out!
