Completed my first Long Arm quilt!
    Sophia B.

Took a one on one Long Arm Certification Class with Theresa yesterday. It was awesome. I even was able to quilt a donation quilt they provided for practice. I've been to other places for quilting and am very impressed with this quilting studio. They make the whole process easy and are there to help you every step of the way. Looking forward to a long partnership with Over the Top Quilting Studio. Theresa was very knowledgeable and allowed me to try all the concepts of using the long arm machines.

As a new quilter, I wanted to learn how to use a longarm but was so intimated by the seasoned quilters I know. But!!! From the moment I walked in, Chris and Susan were lovely!! They were patient and truly sought to understand my goals and objectives. The class went at a perfect pace- not to fast or slow- and combined instruction with practical application. I can't wait to spend more time with these lovely ladies as I bookmark time to finish ALLLLL the quilts on my project list. I'm so glad I found them.

You can make up to a king sized quilt and depending on the pattern, you can usually get it done in one day!

Just a quick thank you to Over the Top Quilting Studio, Susan and Chris, and the staff overall. First, they have a great beginners course on long arm quilting. If you are new to quilting or new to long arm, it is SO fun and you learn so much! Second, they have just about every type of machine you could need. Big quilt whole cloth designs, simple, free motion, and computerized software to help you make it perfect - they have it all. Third, their prices are so affordable. Only $25/hour to work on these beautiful machines that a lot of us can't afford or don't have space for living in a city that is so otherwise expensive. Not only that, you are not alone. Susan, Chris, and their entire staff are masters at these machines and Johnny on the spot to help you with any trouble you might run into. I have learned SO much from them. And by the time you do feel like you can afford one and have the space for one, when you do buy from them, you are going to know exactly what you are doing and they are still always there for support, unlike buying a machine straight from a manufacturer or from a store that just has a sales person, but no one who is so passionately into long arm quilting and knowledgeable about your specific machine that they can help you when you get stuck. If you have a loved one who loves to quilt, buy them the intro class for long arm quilting (that is what my husband did). They will totally love it and you will be able to get them out of the house all day Saturday so you can watch your college football game in peace! Over the Top has become such a special community to me that I just wanted to take some time to share it with others. Susan and Chris can also do the quilting for you. Just come in and tell them the design and what you are looking for and they will take it from there. They are masters at what they do. Absolutely perfect!

My finished quilt from my certification class which they donate to local charities

After an 11 year break from quilting, I finally finished several quilts/projects and have enjoyed starting several new ones,as well. That's why I decided to take this certification class to learn how to use Over the Top Quilting's long-arm sewing machine(s) and be able to rent time on the long-arm machines--finishing current and future quilts!!! Susan was a great teacher! She was very friendly, patient, encouraging and professional. Three hours went by quickly and I felt confident In using the machines in the future. I look forward to next time when I finally get to finish my Thimbleberries quilt (I had no idea how HUGE it was when I started the Block-of-the-Month club in 2009). I'd definitely recommend Over The Top Quilting to anyone interested in using long-arm sewing machines (to rent or buy).

I made a quilt and staff helped me quilt it. They were so patience with me with all my questions. I appreciate their dedicated staff to help their customers on these long arm machines. The notions and fabric in their store are great too. Their YouTube channels provides videos on each step of the process .

Everyone is so helpful! I would definitely recommend this business to my fellow quilters. I rented one of the long arm machines, and this being my first time after my certification class, I needed quite a bit of help. But I had an awesome experience and will definitely be back for more.

Do they teach knitting as well? I am trying to learn via Youtube but I feel I need some one on one attention and am having a hard time finding a teacher. Thanks in advance!

On the fabric side, I think there's a good balance between the blenders, batiks, and other quilting fabric compared to other stores I visited that were extremely heavy in only one type. Everything at Poppy's is of the highest quality so you can feel confident that it's money well spent. I've taken a few classes that were all taught by a true experts and artisans. I especially appreciate the Michelle is considerate of the variety in clientele, offering most classes both during the week as well as weekends. I love how every time you walk into Poppy's, you are greeted with a smile and a welcome. Honey Bee Quilt store was my destination as I was seeking a quilt restoration location. Honey Bee Quilt store was lined with beautifully designed and sewn quilts. Interestingly, you can rent a large quilting machine in store. Someone was sewing a quilt while I was in the store. Of the quilt stores I have frequented, Honey Bee has the largest and most intricately sewn quilts. When I was small child, I remember my mother hand sewing these beautiful quilts. These were not the beautiful quilts with perfect squares, octagon or star patterns. In addition, they did not have the white filling that some quilts have nowadays. However, they were extremely warm, cozy and made with love. My mother sewed her quilts from clothing that her children no longer wore and from pieces she found in thrift stores. The inside of her quilts were clothing laid flat and tacked together. Rewinding to those times, I sat in a red Mexican wooden chair with little colorful flowers across on the back of the chair with a strong Raffia like seat. As my mother sat and sewed her quilts, I read to her, which is first how I gained a love for reading. While I grew up in a single parent household, it was filled with a tremendous amount of love and laughter. My father died as result of a work-related accident when I was 7 seven years old. I associate my mom's quilt with the love in our household and my love of her. Fast-forward to today, my one and only quilt I have from my mom has materials that are moving around. Therefore, they need to be redistributed and tacked down. This restoration effort first led me to a store on Anderson Lane and then to Honey Bee Quilt store. Unfortunately, both stores only sale sewing supplies and/or sewing machines. I met the nicest woman at Honey Bee that referred me to a Sewing Guild in Austin. So, I am extremely hopeful that one of the ladies in the Sewing Circle can help restore my mom's quilt, which has a great deal of intrinsic and sentimental value.

Tucked into a shopping strip I wasn't sure what to expect but the fabric selection was nice and it varied from my normal local quilt shop so that was fun. The staff were friendly and they were extremely busy. I really loved the selection of patterns and pattern books. Definitely plan to go back and peruse a bit more leisurely next time. Open Monday-Saturday and nowhere close to my home office, I'm limited on when I can get there, but will be worth the effort now and then.

Sister business in same area/if not same company. I had order single stones in sets of 5, that were quite expensive and received a couple stones that were awesome and unusable-which, would be my complaint *pending I find out any of these orders are glass or compounds rather than the natural stones that are advertised. The 3d turquoise clover in 10 mm *which also, was 8 mm~one stone was not usable. These are stones not on a strand but instead orders of 5 or 10 counts. I expect nicer quality. A strand will have stones that are chipped, not cut or drilled properly but if I am purchasing a loose stone, I want to be able to use it. I dont mind the stone size-I am using g the others for some pretty earrings but sizing is off, on everything. I am ordering a couple more strands because I am making very pretty bracelets but I cannot tell a customer, with confidence, these are genuine stones, so I can't price accordingly and will not break even for these collections at this point. I just dont want to lose money on returns or bad publicity. So I will say this-if you are purchasing for art/crafts and your gifting or personal enjoyment, this is a terrific hub to purchase. The stones really are pretty and fun. You can make BEAUTIFUL jewelry/crafts, for sure. I WILL order again. I am aware it is possible some are not authentic as listed. They have nice sales. If you buy 500 plus, awesome discounts. I recommend this business 100%, with caveat-this is likely not jeweler authentic stones 100% of the time. If you are just making fun stuff-who cares...the stones are pretty. *I do want loose stones to be as nice as tgey can be is my only complaint
