OMG!! My wife and I frequent F&F, and were just there for Valentine's Day. When I found out my company was having BBQ catered I was excited. This stuff is . The brisket is so moist and seasoned. Love these beans as well. Another 5 star review for Gatlin's. PS. I'm taking a BIG doggie bag home from work

Mac and cheese

Ambiance: Rustic & clean BBQ spot with an amazing selection of meat plates, sides, and sandwiches! Fast and friendly service. Incredibly welcoming atmosphere, seemed many customers were returning patrons who knew the staff- something you rarely see these days! The Mac & cheese was delicious! Every side we ordered was very good. Highly recommend the smoked corn. The brisket was tender and a delicious flavor. Parking onsite. Food was brought out quickly despite being fairly busy for a Friday post-lunch crowd. Highly recommend Gatlin's!

Gatlin's BBQ This small, family-run joint is a local favorite. While not as well-known as the big-name establishments, their barbecue is incredibly authentic. Their grilled chicken and ribs are especially recommended.

Brisket Smoked corn Fried okra

Great spot with a good selection. Smoked corn was delicious. I'd go back just for that. We had the brisket and rank it 9 out of 10 Glass Eyes, using the Chef Ryan Conyer rating system, a commendable ranking indeed.

Gatlin's BBQ is a must try, everything we ordered we finished. What we ordered : - 1/2 pound of lean brisket - 1/2 pound of spicy sausage - Chopped Brisket sandwich - Medium Mac n cheese - Cucumber salad My favorite item to order at any BBQ place is a chopped brisket sandwich no BBQ sauce. Tasting the flavor of the meat with no sauce is my go-to to test how good the brisket is as well as the lean brisket. When you walk in you order first then sit anywhere. The young lady who helped us place our order was not friendly kind of rude. Although the other staff was very friendly checking in if everything was ok and letting us know where the to go boxes were. Restrooms and interior is very clean and spacious. Inside you can choose from booths, regular tables and high top tables.

Food: 4/5 Wet Brisket: 6/5 The brisket was the best I have had up until this point in my life. The moist, fall apart in my mouth meat was the star of this meal. I did not need any sauce. Simply flavorful and succulent. Sausage: 3/5 I didn't love the sausage links. It was bland and did not have an impressive flavor. The snap was good, however it was nothing special. Service: 6/5 When my buzzer rang to pick up my food from the counter, there was an older lady who handed me my food. She was so sweet and a true example of Southern hospitality. Ambience: 5/5 The ambience was busy and modern. It was a recently renovated space that had many tables. Overall, I recommend stopping by Gatlin's for decadent brisket in the Houston area!

Brisket and house wings with rice and fried okra

Still my favorite bbq in Houston. The brisket and wings are always cooked to perfection and with the best flavor. You can't go wrong with any of the wing flavors... but the house wings are probably my favorite. For sides, go with baked beans, Mac and cheese, collard greens. The fried okra is good too. A glass a wine and a cold beer and you're in for a great meal. Ran into Greg, the owner, on our most recent visit. Had a great chat about Gatlin's newer restaurant: Fin and Feather. He was trying out a new recipe, the Jamaican lobster roll, and gave us a taste test. A curry sauce with habaneros and plantains on the side. The salt and spice and flavor profile was aaaahhhh-mazing. Really looking forward to popping over to Fin and Feather and trying it out next.

My first attempt at coming here was on July 4th; I know, crazy right? I can't find the pictures, but if I do, you'll see the line was to the back of the restaurant. Side note, I stood right in line and met some friends, who are now showing me around Houston; so, it's a very sociable place too. It was so many people that the business started running out of food. But the really lovely thing, the staff let us know they were running out of food instead of just letting me and the others stand there. A little backstory I saw the owner on one of the morning shows here in Houston, and the bbq was looking really tasty, and I had just moved here too. So, right away, I said that's where I'm going. Well, I didn't make it to the counter on July 4th, but I made it this time. I ordered the combo plate, ribs, and brisket, and my sides were sweet potato and macaroni and cheese. And just like the host stated on the entertainment show, Gatlin BBQ is a staple, and you can't go wrong. The meat was literally falling off the bones, and I really enjoyed the sweet potatoes and macaroni cheese. This place really put a lot of love in their side orders. Speaking of sweet potatoes, there's a large baked potato on the menu; it's massive, the person in front of me ordered that, and it's not the usual baked potato. It's such a cute place inside, very spacious, with two full rooms; plenty of seating. I like the pictures and writings on the wall because I love to read while waiting in line when I go anywhere. I wanted to take more pictures, but people were sitting in that direction. To tell you a little secret, I had just left my orthodontist to get my braces adjusted, some brackets and bands were added, and because the ribs were so tender, I was still able to eat my meal and enjoy every bite.

Brisket + baked beans + Mac and Cheese

This place is close to my job and very popular amongst my coworkers. I finally got to try it out today and was not dissapointed! There was a decent crowd in this place during lunch time but they got through the line quickly and our food came out super fast. The lady at the counter taking orders was super friendly and so was the one handing out the food. I ordered the brisket plate (lean) with a side of baked beans and mac and cheese. The brisket was amazing. Talk about tender perfection! Don't even get me started on the sauce omg.... I don't even like barbeque food but I am most definitely a fan now. Both of the sides were great although my mac and cheese came out room temperature. Portions are huge so now I have lunch for tomorrow too which is AWESOME. You have gained a new customer!!! :)

Thankfully, Mark was there and initially was told a 35 minute wait but seemed intent by quicker. Ambiance: 4/5 It was breakfast time so of course it was a busy time. For my visit, it was crowded but not to where you couldn't hear your table. Dress is casual, good for friends, solo, or pit stop. Service: 5/5 Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Since it was our first visit there, she gave us some background that it was a Pappa's owned restaurant and food is made from scratch. Food: 3/5 They offer mimosas and I was tempted to order, but was driving and it was 9AM so forewent that option. There are food options for every tastebud. Mark ordered the fried cheese sticks, they were one of the items that I found worthwhile to return for. I opted for the Waffle feast. It included a waffle, that I added pecans on top to, two strips of bacon, eggs your way and hash browns. To say that I needed to add salt and pepper to the eggs and hash browns because they tasted bland and flavorless was unfortunate. It also was served at room temperature, because it was made from scratch, would think it be warmer to hot. The waffle was savory and had good mix and topped with the pecans made it even better. If you're on this side of town and want a change up from the "other breakfast diners" DOT would be where I stop. Fast, friendly service. Depending the food you get, it gets the job done for some sustenance to hold you over when you're not sure when your next meal is because you'll be in Galveston for 7 hours riding a float in the Mardi Gras parade.

I'll admit that when we got there, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside is a different feel. We were greeted and told we could sit where we like. What I eventually found both surprised and delighted me, and Nate's gets a thumbs up overall. Pictures are deceiving as I thought the place would be larger but it's a tight fit for bigger groups. There are only a handful of tables but plenty of character. It's also a bit grimey, unsightly and even a tinge dodgey, which may be a deal breaker for others but is an immediate appeal to me. Two things immediately standout when it comes to the food: the portions and the prices are outstanding. The offerings are as no frills as the rest of the establishment. The other surprise was how much influence there was from Mexican cuisine. Hash browns were the goal, but chorizo and chilaquiles were the bonus. Another surprise? The hash browns weren't as crispy as I would have wanted. It's entirely plausible that I came on an off day, which happens. However everything else was on point as my chorizo skillet was absolutely dynamite, pancakes were fluffy and indulgent, breakfast tacos were outstanding, and my eggs were perfectly softly scrambled. Even the bacon and sausage patties were delicious, which is a tall order considering it's not likely made in house. Lastly, as someone who drinks cold water like it's a hobby (#1), I'm especially grateful for the massive 32 oz cup of water, which is perfect for someone who drinks like a camel. The staff is not the quickest but they are friendly. Spanish may go further with most and they're not the quickest when it comes to greeting folks or cleaning tables. The food is the star and consider paying in cash. ____________ (#1) I'm thirsty.

I wanted to start with one biscuit, but the biscuits come in pairs. The waitress said I could order just one anyway, but the order ended up being two. I meant to save the second one for breakfast, but that was not to be. It did not survive long enough to make it out the door. My actual meal was a bacon swiss and mushroom burger, which was excellent. Between the biscuits and the burger, I am forced to acknowledge that it was entirely too much food. Sadly, that did not prevent me from eating all of it anyway. Delicious! The restaurant, which is a diner with very basic decor, is on an approach road to IAH, and is open 24/7. When I arrived in the evening, the place was empty. By the time I left, there were a whole bunch of customers. I noticed in other reviews that people were saying they did not receive checks for their meal and felt they were over-charged at the register. Mr. Picky ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp while I opted for Veal Parmigiana, and we each stole a bite from the other's plate. We reached consensus immediately that both dishes were well-seasoned and quite delicious, meaning we would return for more good food in the future. Seriously, we hadn't expected much when walking in and looking around, but were pleasantly surprised at the kitchen's efforts. We finished lunch with an order of homemade bread pudding and tiramisu, the latter of which in 2012 won a chamber of commerce epicurean competition 1st place ribbon. I wasn't there to judge that competition and have had better, but sincerely appreciated the moistness of the bread pudding. While the majority of diners were older and a more mature crowd, there's a lot to be said for value, and we thought the menu price was better than reasonable and I think a lot of people will discover this as a value destination, something we all appreciate.
