Low and behold, my friends mentioned Da Grill and my first instinct was to yelp it. I couldn't really find anything specific for Da Grill, so I figured I will try it for myself! I was pleasantly surprised :) First, you order from a sheet of paper that's available on the counter. You check off all the things you want on your burger, I got a regular cheese burger and a side of fries. It came with pickles(a lot of pickles actually), raw red onion, lettuce and tomato. You can also request to have certain ingredients such as bacon, avocado and cheese. You toss your sheet of paper in a wire plate and they will take it and make your order! It was less than five minutes, plus it was during a lunch rush so I thought it was very fast for the amount of people they served. You than go to the cashier and confirm your order with them. My burger and fries were only 7.78 and I was ecstatic!!! That's such a good price. You can also take a plastic bag from the cashier after you pay and there is ketchup on the right when exiting the cashier, and forks and napkins on your left. The burger tasted like a Teddy's burger. It was pretty big. The sauce was almost the same as teddy's. The portion of fries they gave were crazy... I could only finish half of it. You know yo girl looooves fries, but the burger filled my tummy up pretty well. I know there are other places such as Aja and the regular cafeteria, but I think Da Grill is the most bang for your buck. The food is fresh, not "pre-made" like the other two. They even have a few other items like pens and batteries and practical stuff like that. The attendants are always fast and friendly as well. School seasons they open from 7:30a-7:30p. During the summer they're usually closed and then reopen a few weeks ahead of Fall semester with modified hours of 11:00a-2:00p (something like that). Great POD. Beats having to go off campus.

We tried the kouign amann with the toppings she mentioned as vegan (the butter one is not), and they were pretty good, especially with the cinnamon topping! The young lady at the counter was very helpful and patiently pointed out which things were vegan to us, which I really appreciate. The kouign amann seems like a popular item as we bought the last of them (we had wanted four, but there were only three) and it was still early afternoon. There is a parking garage nearby that allowed for long enough free parking for us to go order and grab our goodies to go. The location itself doesn't have a lot of seating space, so it seems best set up for takeout, but it is a pleasantly bright space and the outdoor seating seems like it would be nice as they're not on a main throughfare. It's far from where my family lives on the island that we stay with when we're visiting, but next time we're near Ala Moana around lunchtime, we'll definitely stop by for some vegan goodies!

It comes with fries. The fries or a little bit of the thicker kind but not steak fries. They are like the fries they used to have at Café blue. Tasty but nothing ground breaking, but that is what you would expect from a bank cafeteria anyway. The bowl options and the salad options do sound really interesting. I may give those a shot next time. But I do love myself a decent grilled fish sandwich.

I guess I'd say I'm a plant-based pescatarian. Pesky labels aside, I choose to eat at Umeke Market because the food is fresh and delicious and the service is efficient and courteous. And honestly, Umeke makes it easy and simple if you have dietary restrictions because every dish is fair game! I never have to think. I just eat what I crave and what looks good. And it all looks good! They have a regular menu--everything from breakfast, to smoothies, to burgers, to tacos, to make-your-own plate lunch. But I really like the specials menu. They change it up every week, and I plan my visits to Umeke when they serve my favorites or when they have something especially enticing on the menu, which is like every week. But I still don't get there as often as I wish I could! It's counter service and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. I prefer grabbing my food and heading back to the office. It always takes me just a few minutes, so I don't waste my lunch hour waiting for my lunch order. They even offer online ordering but I've never used that service. I imagine it would be great for a large office order. The restaurant is squeaky clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They know their food and they eagerly answer questions and provide information on ingredients and preparation. They have a passion for serving great tasting food that's good for you.
