The selection at this facility is pretty good. They have salads, sushi, bentos, burgers, yogurt,…read moreand hot entrees. I've never tried their hot breakfast items yet, but the aroma of mini waffles cooking in their waffle maker sure does smell good. For lunch, I've given up on their hot plate lunches. I tried the chicken katsu once or twice and it was pretty lame. They used to sell fried noodles which was my fave, but they took that off the serving line a year or two ago (I guess I was the only one who liked it!). So now my go-to food when I'm desperate for food is the udon station. They use packaged udon, but it's actually pretty good, they don't overcook the noodles, and they put green onion, seaweed, kamaboko (fish cake), and tempura flakes on it. Not bad for a little over $4. Their musubis (fried fish or spam) also make for great snacks. At a certain point every afternoon, they discount the bentos and musubis (I think it's 20%). I'm a little wary of buying those items because they could have been sitting there from the morning time (these items are not chilled or kept at high heat throughout the day), which goes against food safety standards, but I guess when you're a starving student, you'll take it!

Parking is limited, so I usually order online and select curbside pickup. The staff is always friendly, and this cozy little spot on Waialae Avenue has a welcoming neighborhood feel that is so Kaimuki. The Banh Mi Style Lemongrass Tofu Burger is absolutely incredible and easily my favorite item on their menu. Everything in this "burger" is there for a reason. Perfectly balanced. Always freshly made. The warm crispy panko coated katsu on the tofu pairs perfectly with the pickled veggies and the soft bun ties it all together. Textural Heaven. The Korean Hirata Buns are massive! The texture on the tofu is better than real chicken. The Korean flavors on the chick'n, house made pickles and the kimchi aioli make this another flavor masterpiece. The house made buns are fresh and the perfect vehicle for everything going on with the flavors. Very filling! It's obvious that the food creators at Juicy Brew dedicated countless hours in balancing textures and maximizing flavors. Perfection! Vegan or carnivore, Juicy Brew is an absolute must try!

Dessert in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. I was in the area and searched my Yelp app for a snack after lunch... LOL! I thought that if I had a healthy cookie, it wouldn't be so bad, right? I have driven past Juicy Brew on Waialae Avenue so many times, but today - it finally clicked - that this was not a coffee shop or a juice place. I found free street parking on 8th Avenue and walked into the cozy, colorful, clean shop. It was a bit busy with several customers ahead of me, but the line moved quickly. I asked the pleasant, efficient worker what the display case contained: Chocolate Chip gluten-free cookies White chocolate chip cookies Blueberry scones Hmmm... Chocolate chip cookie, please! It was thin, large, soft, chewy, and delicious! Maybe I'll go back for more because I didn't feel too guilty eating it!

Takeout breakfast from Straub Benioff Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. I've seen my friends checking in at this Cafe and wondered if it's all that... I knew that I could get the first half hour of parking for free in the structure, so I walked quickly. However, I ordered the Special of the Day: Steak and eggs... and it took a while because it's Made To Order. I was stressing out about the half hour time limit because I dislike paying for parking. The cafe was relatively easy to find. I just looked for the signs. I ordered with the cashier who filled out the order slip for me. I paid while I waited for my order... as soon as it came out, I rushed to my car and made it! Whew! Then, I had to find a place to eat where I could sit down and cut my steak with a plastic knife. Yes... It was challenging. I powered through because I was really hungry, so it tasted good... especially with ketchup which I got at the self-service station at the cafe... along with my utensils. I guess I would go again, but that 30 minutes of free parking is an obstacle for me. Maybe I should go on a Sunday or holiday when metered street parking is free?

I also really enjoy their shepherd's pie; it's hearty and comforting. There's also a simple, comfortable dining room next door with plenty of tables and chairs, making it a nice place to sit down and eat. Happy eating!! 43

There are a few small tables inside and out for seating, and there are a few parking garages nearby for free. I ordered the Lychee Lemonade, the French Dip, and Planted Butter Mochi Kouign Amann. Overall a bit pricy, but the food was delicious! The drink was refreshing but may be too sweet for some.. The pastry had the perfect amount of sweetness and crispy/flakiness- but I wish I could've had it heated up a bit! I wasn't sure about the French dip when ordering it, but it was really good! The dip had good flavor that complimented the beef and bread perfectly! It did take about 10-15 minutes to come out of the kitchen though- I had to refrain from eating the entire Kouign Amann while waiting.

However, this updated…read morereview includes more notes, such as the fact that I am just realizing how astounded I am to find Vietnamese food being served on a school campus outside of Vietnam. Perhaps there are other such businesses nowadays, after the bánh mì has taken off in popularity in American culinary consciousness, and we are in the midst of an era of increasing Viet food popularity. But being able to get authentic Vietnamese fare at a university campus is pretty nice. I have had the privilege of trying several flavors of bánh mì from Ba Le, and I find them all compelling. The chicken, the ham, and the tofu sandwiches have been all very tasty, and provided me with necessary fuel during a stressful December. Their phở is also pretty nice. I smell it every time I pass by Ba Le. Given that there is usually a bit of a wait here, I'd say Ba Le is quite popular with the community.

The cooked turkey complimented the spinach, dried tomato and cheese very well and the pesto spread was just the right amount to add flavor without overpowering the sandwich. Food was 5 stars I'd say the service was good. They were very attentive to customers waiting in line and remembered who ordered what. The only knock I have is with ordering panini sandwiches and pho, there is a bit of a wait to get the food ready especially if it's crowded Ambiance: There are places indoors and outdoors to sit down but it's usually super crowded with college students. And with the tables being in such close proximity indoors it may be hard to have conversations with people you're sitting right next to. I took off one star for the wait time and another for the lack of seats available and the loud atmosphere (but I'm sure if I went at a less crowded time my 3 stars would be 4 stars). Overall loved the food though :)

And it doesn't seem like people know that it's open again, because there's hardly anybody there. Now they appear to have a regular menu of sandwiches, burgers, salad, and bowls. They also have daily specials that vary. I tried the fish sandwich during my recent visit. It's basically just a grilled fish on a burger bun with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and tartar sauce. It comes with fries. The fries or a little bit of the thicker kind but not steak fries. They are like the fries they used to have at Café blue. Tasty but nothing ground breaking, but that is what you would expect from a bank cafeteria anyway. The bowl options and the salad options do sound really interesting. I may give those a shot next time. But I do love myself a decent grilled fish sandwich.

The service is always fast, which is great because everyone usually parks right in front (not in an actual stall), rather than 50 feet further down in the actual spaces.
