I've never tried their hot breakfast items yet, but the aroma of mini waffles cooking in their waffle maker sure does smell good. For lunch, I've given up on their hot plate lunches. I tried the chicken katsu once or twice and it was pretty lame. They used to sell fried noodles which was my fave, but they took that off the serving line a year or two ago (I guess I was the only one who liked it!). So now my go-to food when I'm desperate for food is the udon station. They use packaged udon, but it's actually pretty good, they don't overcook the noodles, and they put green onion, seaweed, kamaboko (fish cake), and tempura flakes on it. Not bad for a little over $4. Their musubis (fried fish or spam) also make for great snacks. At a certain point every afternoon, they discount the bentos and musubis (I think it's 20%). I'm a little wary of buying those items because they could have been sitting there from the morning time (these items are not chilled or kept at high heat throughout the day), which goes against food safety standards, but I guess when you're a starving student, you'll take it!

I knew that I could get the first half hour of parking for free in the structure, so I walked quickly. However, I ordered the Special of the Day: Steak and eggs... and it took a while because it's Made To Order. I was stressing out about the half hour time limit because I dislike paying for parking. The cafe was relatively easy to find. I just looked for the signs. I ordered with the cashier who filled out the order slip for me. I paid while I waited for my order... as soon as it came out, I rushed to my car and made it! Whew! Then, I had to find a place to eat where I could sit down and cut my steak with a plastic knife. Yes... It was challenging. I powered through because I was really hungry, so it tasted good... especially with ketchup which I got at the self-service station at the cafe... along with my utensils. I guess I would go again, but that 30 minutes of free parking is an obstacle for me. Maybe I should go on a Sunday or holiday when metered street parking is free?

My friend and I happened to be at the Honolulu Museum of Art for Community Sunday (the 3rd Sunday of the month) when we both felt hungry! This cafe is so convenient, but reservations are recommended. We waited about 15 minutes for a seat - not bad, right? However, it's outdoor dining which isn't the best in September's humidity. Our server was okay, but not super attentive. Our water glasses were filled without our needing to ask. I got the Mushroom and Swiss Omelet that came with a fresh green salad and roasted potatoes and carrots. I liked the spinach and onions in the mix! This is a unique environment with a waterfall wall and artwork in a courtyard atmosphere. Note: metered street parking is free on Sundays. P. S. The best thing about the cafe is that it offers spectacular 5 star views of Honolulu. I sat for an hour enjoying the quiet view of this beautiful city. The food is simple and changes daily. A Pork Chop Bento Box, Egg and Spam flatbread and a few premade sandwich were today's options. Prices are incredibly affordable. My egg flatbread was $5 and Blue Hawaii water was a buck. Ice cream bars and prepackaged snack items, soda cases and fresh coffee are also available. The clerk is genuine, sweet and most likely been running the cafe for many years. She knows the regulars by name. There is a nearby public restroom, not fancy but clean and you can wash hands. Pay parking is available in the Public Health lot. I walked over from Queens Medical Center, which is across the street. I love finding a hole in the wall.

I has the roast pork special & it was ono/delicious & plentiful! They're open until 3pm, though lunch is over about 1pm. You can call & pre-order, if you like, especially if you want lunch after 1pm (they'll hold it for you). I hear they'll send you an email with their weekly specials ... I parked in the free parking lot of the Kokua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Wellness Center and walked through the building. The cashier and cozy store are actually on the street side of the clinic. No need to go inside unless you want to dine in. I ordered the Aroz Caldo and added the egg upgrade for $1 more. It was a tasty, hearty, savory rice porridge with chunks of tender chicken and slivers of fresh ginger. It was delicious! Thanks for the friendly service and healthy meal!

The cafe and shop are only opened lunchtime a couple days per week and Thursday is one of those days. We stopped by the shop to pick up fresh coconuts and apple bananas before ordering our lunch. Inside, up a flight of stairs, is the cafe with seating for about 30 people. The cafe is not upscale, just plain aloha friendly. The menu changes daily depending on ingredients in season and what is part of the culinary curriculum. For lunch, I had the Miso Eggplant Bowl which was delicious with a huge serving of roasted eggplant, a saffron style rice and a few other veggies. I also had the Soursop Smoothie, which was a delightful frozen and tart beverage. I would go back for the smoothie. My daughter had a Meatball Sub which was gigantic with huge meatballs on a tomato sauce. Her meal was served with a blend of roasted local veggies that were delicious and interesting. She also had a Lemonbalm Lemonade, that she devored every last drop. We finished our meal with Lemon Bar desserts. Don't skip dessert - the desserts are wonderful. The staff is always friendly, and this cozy little spot on Waialae Avenue has a welcoming neighborhood feel that is so Kaimuki. The Banh Mi Style Lemongrass Tofu Burger is absolutely incredible and easily my favorite item on their menu. Everything in this "burger" is there for a reason. Perfectly balanced. Always freshly made. The warm crispy panko coated katsu on the tofu pairs perfectly with the pickled veggies and the soft bun ties it all together. Textural Heaven. The Korean Hirata Buns are massive! The texture on the tofu is better than real chicken. The Korean flavors on the chick'n, house made pickles and the kimchi aioli make this another flavor masterpiece. The house made buns are fresh and the perfect vehicle for everything going on with the flavors. Very filling! It's obvious that the food creators at Juicy Brew dedicated countless hours in balancing textures and maximizing flavors. Perfection! Vegan or carnivore, Juicy Brew is an absolute must try!

I found free street parking on 8th Avenue and walked into the cozy, colorful, clean shop. It was a bit busy with several customers ahead of me, but the line moved quickly. I asked the pleasant, efficient worker what the display case contained: Chocolate Chip gluten-free cookies White chocolate chip cookies Blueberry scones Hmmm... Chocolate chip cookie, please!
