We found Sawkill while looking for reclaimed barnwood for our renovated kitchen. We visited the…read moresmall showroom in Bklyn and Alan told us all about the wood and showed us samples. We ordered the reclaimed oak planks in various widths, skip-planed, which he explained would allow some smoothness and some of the rough distressing. It took a couple of months for them to source the wood and deliver it to us in LI, but it arrived as promised. Our contractor installed it and my husband and I sanded and finished it using Waterlox Trutone natural sealer and finish. You don't have to sand it, but we wanted it a little lighter after testing the finish. We decided to fill in holes with epoxy, but in hindsight didn't need to, and it was a lot of work to sand it smooth. Otherwise it was pretty easy. We LOVE LOVE LOVE our floors! The wood is gorgeous and so unique. Alan knows all about reclaimed wood and even wrote a book about it, which we bought. He kept in touch, answered all our questions and helped us with advice on finishing. Highly recommend Sawkill and Alan!
