Gasterea serves a wonderful variety of tapas. From seafood to home grown meats. All served up well seasoned and marinated meats on freshly baked baguette bread. The tuna tapa was "star kissed tuna" wrapped with blue fin tuna. The prosciutto tapa was seasoned just right, and the ham tapa was wonderful. The Argentinian veal tapa was great. The veal was tender, seasoned and cooked just right. The burger tapa was unique. Tasted like a burger with sweet mayo. Highly recommend Gasterea for Tapa

If your visiting barcelona and are close by to this area I highly recommend you come to this place for tapas, drinks, and a good time. The owner and his staff are super friendly. The tapas are AMAZING. Matambre de ternera con chimichurri (Beef flank steak with chimichurri sauce) 5/5 - Delicious! You must get this. Savoury flavour and melt in your mouth beef. Reminds me of a pot roast without the brown gravey. 4.50 euro Bacalao Plancha (Grilled Cod Fish) 5/5 - Delicious! Flakey and so so good. 4.50 euro Verduras con pollo al curry y salsa de yogurt (Vegetables, Chicken curry, and a yogurt sauce) 5/5 - Delicous! Very flavorful. Not your traditional curry but it was still soo good! The yogurt adds a nice touch. 4.50 euro Calamari a la andaluza o a la plancha (Grilled squid) 4/5 - pretty good Good flavors. 4.50 euro Queso manchego y anchovies (Manchego cheese and anchovies) 4/5 - anchovies and that manchego mmmmm.... Served on a piece of toast 1.90 euro per piece Salmon ahumado y picadi de pimientos (Smoked salmon and chopped peppers) 4/5 - smoked salmon!! Served on a piece of toast. 1.90 euro per piece They offered some cider wine and red wine samples. The owner and staff are soo friendly and humble. They offered us some chocolate fudge with nuts at the end. This place is a must when visiting Barcelona. :)

My wife and I had a wonderful visit to Gasterea which serves a large selection of mouthwatering pinchos for 1.90 euros each. We tried many of the options including the Vinegar Anchovies with Black Olive Tapenade from Aragon, Manchego Cheese and Anchovies, Ham and Bread, Spicy Traditional Sausage from Mallorca with Manchego Cheese, Argentinian Veal Loin with Chimichurri Dressing, Homemade Croquette of Mushrooms, and Chorizo Sausage in Cider pinchos. Each pincho was flavorful and sat on a piece of fresh soft bread which soaked up the sauces nicely. Overall, Gasterea is the ideal pincho bar and a must visit when in Barcelona.

Loved this tapas bar! One of my favorite experiences in Barcelona since it's what the locals do. We ended up eating here two days in a row since we liked it so much. The guys who work here are super friendly and were patient with us since we didn't understand the process at first. Get there early so you can order whatever you want or sit towards the back of the bar so you can grab the best selections right when they come out of the kitchen. It starts to get packed around 8:30. No matter how busy the bartenders get they are ALWAYS attentive and will give you whatever you need. I recommend the chicken skewer with yogurt, fried potatoes, chicken curry, cheese with sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese with fig and the crab salad. The pinchos range from 1.9 - 2.9 euro each! (cash only) If you're really nice they might even give you free chocolate truffles! :) Go here to experience Barcelona!

Loved this little spot! Delicious vermut, pinxos were so good and service was great! I loved their Chimichurri, it was full of flavor, perfect size for two especially considering the tapas you end up eating with it. The pinxo with sun dried tomato and cheese, as well as the seafood salad one were some of my favorites! One of my favorite spots in Barcelona. Since they didn't have sangria, I tried their vermut and it did not disappoint! It's definitely a must try!

Ate here last night. The pinchos were delicious. My wife and I tried a number of things and were able to spend less than 30 euros(no alcoholic drinks for us). Cash only so be warned but they do post it pretty clearly at the restaurant/bar. The warm pincho with veal was my favorite.

Stumbled across this restaurant by chance while walking around, and wow we got so lucky. By far the BEST tapas we had in Barcelona. EVERYTHING was delicious, service was incredible!!! The servers were so friendly, making conversation with us (even with their limited English), joking around and they also allowed us to taste test some things before we ordered. Truly an amazingly hospitable group of people; we felt so welcome even as tourists and foreigners. The food is a whole other story to tell. Every single thing we got exceeded expectations and blew my mind. Wow the tapas were AMAZING. We ordered a lot, but top recommendations would definitely be the patatas bravas, spanish omelette, Argentinian beef, risotto. Prices were great too. Definitely coming back next time!! A must try!

Found this little gem on Yelp. Definitely worth the trip on the metro to get here. Opens up at 7pm, and by 9pm this place is hopping. Suggest getting here when it opens to get a decent seat at the bar. The staff there is super friendly and the menu has English translations on it. If all else fails, the pinchos sit premade freshly behind the glass at the bar, just point and pick whatever looks appetizing. The prices here are very reasonable for what you get, and their wine and Fanta limon combo drink is delicious. P.S. Bring cash... This place doesn't do bank card/CC

Oh gosh, I'll probably dream about this place for years to come. Dinner here was the highlight of food in Barcelona. Everything we tried was delicious. Boyfriend loved the chorizo one, but my favorite was the goat cheese with candied fig. Just beautiful, melt in the mouth. The eggplant chips with feta and honey were gorgeous as well. Not as rich or greasy as I thought it would be. Lightly sweet with a hint of sesame sprinkled on top to give texture and a twist of flavor. It's a compact space, and can definitely get hectic especially if you don't speak Spanish. Just sort of edge yourself in, grab a menu and order. Staff don't speak too much English, but they understand for the most part and are very nice. They'll look out for you :)

Authentic, filled up with locals, delicious, affordable, great service...this was my first tapas bar experience and it was a good one. Skip the tourist traps and go out of your way to visit Gasterea. Food-wise (duh), we ate different sausages, manchego, chèvre with candied fig, a Spanish "tortilla" (omelette), eggplant chips with feta and honey, steak...the list goes on. Oh, and two beers. All for...20 euros. Good enough to visit two nights in a row.

Awesome Pinotxo bar! The space is limited and a lot of people just stand at the bar and order. They don't seem to put a limit or facilitate a reservation system. If you can get in, you can order! It worked out for us since many of the places we walked by didn't let us in because we didn't have a reservation. Barcelona's dinning scene can be quite busy around 9-11pm. Back to the Gasterea! They have many different things on the menu and many of them are quite cheap! Small portions are €1.9 and larger casseroles are €3.25. You can fill up your stomach on a €15 bill. A few recommendations: grilled prawn with artichokes and broken egg with ham. We didn't even get to try their veal and steak yet. Definitely worth another visit!

Fantastic tapas and atmosphere!! Prices were incredible for the quality of food. Hands down my favorite tapas bar in Barcelona. Wonderful place to go with friends or even with out of town visitors- this is your quintessential tapas bar that will hit all the marks. It gets busy, so don't be afraid to go up and order at the counter. My favorites were the chimichurri steak, prawn skewer, chicken skewer with guac, tuna tataki, and the sweet cheese with blueberry compote. I didn't love the eggplant chips with honey and feta, thought they were a bit too greasy and I do prefer larger strips of eggplant. That aside, the flavors were great and others in my party enjoyed it! Honestly I would still recommend ordering this dish if you are already curious about it, just know that the eggplant chips are about the size of a large fingernail so they easily soak up grease (and honey but no complaints there!). read more

Gasterea is always there when you need it! For a pintxo fix, when you want to show visitors an authentic spot without leaving the neighborhood, for an upbeat personal dining experience with txakoli!! Don't expect a sit down meal, expect to stand and laugh and let the waiters recommend the hot out of the kitchen pintxos or the cold ones on display while pouring Basque wine across the room into your glass! read more

Best tapas that I tasted in Barcelona! My friends and I spent 3 1/2 days in Barcelona and had tapas pretty much every day. Gasterea is located in the neighborhood of La Gracia, and it was recommended to us by a few locals. The tapas were priced well and absolutely delicious! We asked for recommendations and were pleased with everything we tried. The restaurant was set up with bar seating, so it was easy to ask for recommendations. Every single bite was amazing. We kept ordering more food than planned, but we could help ourselves since it was so delicious. Service was fantastic, and if I'm ever back in Barcelona, I definitely plan to go back! read more

We tried this spot based on the high yelp reviews, but were overall pretty let down. Our server was helpful in terms of answering our questions and giving recommendations, but missed a few of the items we ordered, which I wouldn't normally fault him for, given the language barrier. However, he and the other server were constantly going around with pre-made dishes trying to sell them to us--and like, definitely not taking no for an answer right away. It left us feeling like we had wandered into a tourist trap. The food was also fine, but not particularly memorable. read more

Wow! We went to several tapas places during our visit to Barcelona and this was our favorite. Super reasonable prices for fantastic food. It's a small place that gets crowded so be ready for a fast paced environment where you eat next to your neighbor. We loved it and the servers are very fast and friendly. The blak sausage with quail egg was divine and so was the matambre cazuelita and grilled squid. But seriously, you can't go wrong with this place. Enjoy! read more

One of the best nights of our weeklong trip. Charming gentlemen behind the bar humorously peddling their delicious wares. Very reasonable pricing. Terrific meat tapas. Very good selection of vegetarian tapas make this a high priority tapas bar for those with dietary restrictions. A true authentic experience and on a charming narrow thoroughfare where locals outweigh tourists - come around 9-9:30p to catch seats at the bar. Would easily come back and bring friends on return to Barcelona. read more

Saw this place in yelp and thought I would give it a try. It's busy at prime time (9 pm) but we were able to get two seats in the back easily around 8 pm. Wine and beer was good and cheap. We ordered hot and cold pinchos at random at first and then came back to our favorites. We ended up getting 10-12 total for two people and left very satisfied. Our favorites were the veal with chimichurri, the fig with goat cheese, the shrimp with artichoke. We had 11 pinchos, one plate of roasted peppers, 2 classes of wine and 2 beers for a total of 33€. A small cozy bar that primarily serves pinchos. These are slices of bread with toppings like feta and fig, hams, salamis, salmon, etc. I particularly liked the roquefort with quince. Inexpensive, you order several. They have a few larger items (Tapas sized) like flank steak that was delicious. Put together lots of flavors and make a meal. Everything was delicious. It ends up being a very reasonably priced dinner. read more

OH DAMN you just got LUCKY! If you are looking at reviews for tapas and a GOOD TIME then you have found the spot. This place is great but can be packed - be ready to stand and order over the lucky people who have scored a seat at the bar (odd at first but not intimidating). There are shallow standing tables against the wall in this skinny but long/deep establishment. The service is great, the atmosphere is fun (we met people from 3 different countries) and the food is great! If you only speak/read English then get a menu it has the translations. From the cheese to the anchovies to the peppers this place is solid. The next time we are in Gracia we will definitively be back at least once if not more. read more

I loved this place. It's a real tapas bar in the Gracia neighborhood of Barcelona. The bartenders are nice and most of the tapas is about 2€. My favorite was cheese with anchovies but you can't go wrong here. Everything is great. read more

Excellent food and friendly people running it. They make you feel welcome there. Quite affordable and you leave feeling very satisfied. My favorite part was when they affectionately teased an American guy for asking for ketchup and of course complied with his request. Great vermouth and hard cider as well. Finally found least touristy tapas with the urgency of a NYC deli. Try the cold and hot pinchos. Each one we tried was very good - especially the veal loin with chimichurri sauce. Wine selection by the glass went beyond vino tinto and they also had what looked like sour cider they poured from 3 ft above the glass. read more

This was by far the best food I had in Barcelona and for the price, it's unbeatable. My friends and I stopped in here on a Sunday night since there wasn't much else open. However, I'm so glad we did!! I had a couple of the pinchos and then a cazuela. In my opinion the pinchos were better but a cazuela was definitely more food. For the pinchos I got a tenderloin ibérico and basque sausage. For the cazuela I got calamares a la andaluza. Everything was spectacular and each tapa is only 1.90 which is unheard of. Definitely definitely recommend!! read more

Hands down my favorite meal in Barcelona. I just walked in and sat at the bar and picked several pinchos, cold and hot. The waiters/bartenders were very fun! They practiced their English with me and I practiced my Spanish. My favorite pincho was the goat cheese with fig. Oh my goodness! So delicious. All of them looked so great, so I was stuffed by the end! A big dinner of pinchos with two glasses of wine was only about €15. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants delicious pinchos. They had the best variety and taste of any other restaurant offering pinchos that I visited in Barcelona. read more

More pintxos than tapas, this little place filled up fast. Helpful service with menus in English and Catalan. Would highly recommend the black squid ink rice -- it was delicious! Authentic, amazingly nice staff, and great food. Ate so much food and it was so cheap! Staff gave honest opinions about what to order and everything was so tasty. Go early if you want to grab a seat otherwise you may have to stand, but the food is definitely worth it! read more

Just be aware that the drinks may cost as much as your tapas! Enjoy and have fun!

NGL, I'm someone who gets overwhelmed and gets tunnel vision. I'm a sheep following the shepherd-- in this case, if you throw your body & a menu in front of me, I'll easily walk in. I'd seen great reviews online about their namesake pintxos, but the menu had so many options and none that clicked with what I was looking for. I was hungry, so I sent it and ordered a few items from the classic tapas: the Squid in Ink Croquette and the Patatas Bravas. The croquette was incredible and so flavorful, while the Patatas Bravas were the complete opposite. The potatoes tasted bland and stale, and the sauce on top was just... meh. I hated how let down I was!! As I was finishing up my meal, I noticed a few people coming in and were sitting at the bar--not usually the most go-to spot when there are plenty of tables open. However, as soon as they sat down, they began grabbing items from the display. I went to check it out and lo and behold--PINTXOS!!! I asked my waiter, and he explained the process: pick what you want, enjoy and pay for what charge you grab at the end. And honestly? They looked and tasted so much better and were way more affordable than what I ordered!! Disappointed I spent so much money, but consider this a lesson for anyone reading!

Love that they had hot and cold varieties to choose from. If you are interested in having a small snack or even eating a lot this is a great place to try a variety of bites. Everything was very fresh and delicious. This is my favorite restaurant I visited in Barcelona!
