I was up in the area, came across here, not a lucky find. I love Wontons soup, I ordered a quart this was by far the worst I have had in recent years, oily, salty, loaded with lettuce not sure why, three wontons. The best part of the soup were the noodles. Next another favorite and surprised to see Shrimp Toast, they were overcooked and loaded with oil which was all I was able to taste. I have been going to Gary Woo's for a number of years off and on . The food started off pretty good and portions were plentiful but ever since The Pandemic the food gradually went downhill and portions began to shrink but prices started to increase . They started charging for house hot mustard and eliminated the free duck sauce. They even got so cheap that they eliminated the fortune cookies altogether. Lastly the owner is not an appreciative individual and very unfriendly. We spend an average of $80 every time we order and now decided it's not worth it anymore because the taste of the food and customer appreciation is sorely lacking . read more

It's a humble West Boca takeout spot with old-school vibes: red walls, laminated menus, celebrity photos taped to the wall (yes, Adam Sandler), and a couple of tables if you eat in. Not much atmosphere--but that's not the draw. The food is unapologetically American-Chinese, and it nails that nostalgic New York flavor. We had crispy shrimp balls (deep-fried shrimp paste wrapped in noodles--fantastic), roast pork fried rice (great char siu, wok hei, not greasy), and a standout shrimp with lobster sauce (rich, eggy, loaded with ground pork, not watered down). Portions are huge and prices fair--three dishes plus a soda ran just under $50. They also offer a dim sum section on the menu, which we haven't tried yet--but based on what we ate, there's promise. Decided that since most of the family wasn't home, I could enjoy some good Chinese with my kids. Picked up a container of chicken lo mein, beef and broccoli dinner combo - with house salad and soup, asked about extra crunchies and duck sauce. Well the kid didn't say they charged for that, in the past they have not, he just gave me back less change than I expected. The soup was the best part as usual, very flavorful. The house salad came with a yellow water that had no flavor and was all stems. The lo mein was very hot and fresh, but was lacking in flavor, the beef and broccoli had the same problem, looked great tasted like it was missing every seasoning it was supposed to have. I ordered chicken chow mein with white rice, a quart of fried rice, a couple of eggrolls, and I picked it up to take it home. I was a little disappointed because this place does not live up to the hype, the egg drop soup I found to be very watery and bland, the chicken chow mein was just OK, the fried rice which happened to been the best item that I eat that day was OK, and the eggrolls were horrible. Being a NY transplant, I have a tendency to compare everything down here in FL to my experience growing up in the suburbs of NYC. I would say that the flavors are pretty close to good NYC Chinese takeout but some items like the cold noodle are just plain spaghetti with a decent peanut sauce. I have a severe sesame oil and seed allergy and asked repeatedly if the chicken chow mein had any sesame seeds or sesame oil in it. They replied they only use vegetable oil and no sesame seeds. Well I had a severe allergic reaction to their crappy chicken chow mein anyways. Therefore, there was sesame oil in the frozen fake chicken they used in it and they didn't bother to check. What I can say is save your money and don't get food from Gary Woo Express on Yamato Road. The prices are outrageous and the food is mediocre. The only good thing we ate was an egg roll. The Wonton soup was salty and the actual wontons were tiny. The fried pork dumplings were tiny and burnt. If you wanted meat, forget it. In the roast pork chow fun the noodles were soft and the pork dry. I have never seen such brown pork. In the Mongolian beef, the beef was overly tenderized and the scallions and onions had no flavor. Neither the chow fun nor the beef had that smokey wok flavor. There was no fresh duck sauce or mustard and the hot sauce is blazing hot. I am from New York City, Manhattan actually, and Gary Woo's food is nothing like that. We have been in this area for many years and we haven't found any good Chinese food, and Gary Woo Express further confirms this. read more
