Palisadians had the trauma of the fire, then all of us at some point or another were terrorized by the government, our insurer, and/or a service provider. As I worked tirelessly to help family and friends rally to rebuild, I also assisted seniors who couldn't easily navigate the digital world in remediating their homes. Both journeys brought unique stressors and predators upon our vulnerable population. On President's Day, a landscaping vendor at my parent's home sent yet another email threat in an 8 month campaign of terror (sent only on holidays and weekends) and fraud. Not only did the Landscaper target an individual in trauma from fire, but a senior woman who he knew to be suffering from dementia. Here's how this ties into Dr. Yeh: In direct response to the email, my blood pressure skyrocketed, I immediately lost vision in left eye, and thought I was having a stroke. When firemen cleared me, I called Dr. Yeh on a holiday and immediately got me in soon thereafter. She correctly identified the issue, referred me to a retinal specialist for intervention, and stayed in waiting room with me as I called to ensure I had the appointment. Turn back the clock to the year prior. My January 7, 2025 to do list in town included picking up my first new pair of eyeglasses in a decade after an impeccable, comprehensive eye exam that had my vision better than ever. I was excited, then most of our sweet town burned to the ground. I knew Dr.Polan's building survived. I had contact lenses at Shutters where we stayed for 6 months, but I switch to glasses as night. I could survive without but life's easier with eyeglasses. I had nothing so eyeglasses weren't an immediate priority. I didn't even think of following up with Dr. Polan's (consistently incredible front office) as Palisadians weren't even allowed back into the Palisades for a month. Imagine my surprise when I got a call from Dr.Yeh asking where I was living to send my glasses. I told her and before I knew it; she personally delivered to Shutters. Again, IN THE WAKE OF A CATASTROPHIC FIRE WHERE HER FAMILY LOST THEIR HOME, DR.YEH CARED ENOUGH TO DRIVE MY NEW EYEGLASSES TO SHUTTERS. Good luck getting that kind of care from a doctor outside of the Palisades. I have no doubt that much of the reason for Dr.Polan's reopening was made possible by the devoted staff and Dr.Yeh supporting him. When beat up by life and broken by a predatory vendor, the antidote for healing is connecting with kind strangers and vendors who make anything about life easier. I appreciate Dr.Yeh for being one of those who lifted me up with the highest level of care and competency. read more

I needed contact lenses and don't really trust ordering online. You never know where you are getting the lenses from or if its legitimate. I don't trust places I don't know. I'm grateful they are open during Corona times when most businesses are closed. I was able to pay over the phone and my lenses were available. I was able to pick up same day shipping is also available. They brought them out to me curbside. They made the process easy and everyone was very friendly. This optometrist sets a new high bar for all optometrists. He doesn't just test your eyes and make glasses -- he CORRECTS your vision with vision therapy. I first went to Dr. Polan a little over a year ago. Before moving down to LA for school, I had been seeing the same optometrist since I was 12 years old, so I was really hesitant and apprehensive about going to a new doctor. I picked Dr. Polan's office because he took my eye insurance and was the closest to my apt. Overall, I'm really happy with the service I receive at this office. Dr. Polan switched me to Acuvue Trueye disposable contact lens (I was wearing the old Focus Dailies for forever) and he told me the discomfort I felt towards the end of the days was due to my eyes not being able to breathe properly. I'm so glad I made the change because my eyes feel so much better. I had no idea that my contacts could cause poor eye health :(. I also had my glasses lenses updated here too. Since my vision is so bad, I have to pay a little extra for the thinner lens, which I already knew about since I've had to do this since I was a teenager. What happened to me with my lenses is yet another reason I love this office. I tried to clean my new lenses with this eye glass cleaning spray I got from another place and they left this horrible streaking, weird stuff all over the lens and it wasn't coming off!!!! Having just paid a huge bill at the office, I was almost on the verge of tears. I brought them back to see if Trish (the assistant/receptionist) could do anything with them. She said she would call the makers and see what could be done and maybe they could do us a favor. About a week later, she called me to tell me to come pick up my new lens. SHE GOT THEM TO RE-DO THE LENS AT NO COST TO ME! :D I was so so so happy! Every time I come in, I am warmly greeted and anything I need is done quickly and efficiently. They also have a great selection of designer frames! It's a small office, but everyone is very knowledgeable, organized, and pleasant. I was referred to Dr. Polan by someone I don't know that well so I was hesitant to check him out. I'd say I was happy with my choice. His office is clean and presentable. Everyone in his office was fairly friendly and he seemed to know his stuff. The location is great and close to where I work and he had a decent sized collection of glasses to choose from. One big thing I liked was that he didn't want to give me a strong prescription because he didn't want me needing glasses for the rest of my life. At least not at such a young age. I am always leery when doctors start suggestions medications or permanent fixes, so I was happy to hear him tell me there was a chance I could be out glasses in a year if my eyes corrected themselves. Of course this was my own situation, yours may vary. He also seemed to have a really cool Vision Therapy Center in the room next door which had all these cool vision games. As a physician, I am well aware of the time constraints of a medical office and I have been most impressed with not only Dr. Polan, but his staff. I love this place. I've been coming here since I first needed glasses in high school (now at about 10 years). Trish is always a pleasure to be around - super friendly and very helpful. The last time I was there picking out new frames and lenses, I mentioned that I had been getting headaches when wearing my glasses (not a new prescription). Trish suggested that I had been picking bad frames for the bridge of my nose and suggested a lighter frame. It did the trick and the glasses are still beautiful. Dr Polan always takes the time to explain what's going on with my eyes at various appointments and will give you some exercises to do to improve your vision. I've also occasionally had ocular migraines over the years, and his helpful tools have helped to lessen them over the years. Many people don't believe in eye therapy, but I do believe it works. I've been researching this for a long time, I have seen the proof. Dr Boxer Refered me to Dr. Polan for eye therapy. Eye therapy works for lazy eye and some other related issues. As long as we do our homework, it really works, because laziness is in the brain, not in the eye. I only have a small problem on my right eye but I am definitely committed to go every week. He is very knowledgable and personable, not like other doctors, mainly most of them rush people. My eye therapist Martha is very sweet and approachable. She worked with me very patiently at my first visit, we played fun games, and worked my eye. Each therapy sessions take 30 min. The way he licks the tip of his finger before grabbing a piece of paper really creeps me out. This is an old-fashioned habit that has no place in an office where things should be clean. The appointment was fine otherwise, and I have been very happy with my contact lens prescription. However, I was so put off by that finger licking that I have been unable to compel myself to return. My multi-focal contacts are great, but only because he took a tremendous amount of time and effort getting just the right ones for me. He is patient, personable, and highly professional. I think Dr Polan is a great optometrist. However, it is a pity that one of his staff members, Trish, can be on the rude side. I decided today to stop seeing him because of that. I ordered contacts from their office on a Friday and 1 1/2 wks later my contacts had still not been shipped to me. Trish explained to me in a condescending manner that because the lens I had ordered are not the norm (I have very strong vision), it can take much longer. It was ordered on Friday, July 15 and on Tuesday, July 26th they received them in their office. She was going to send them to me from her office since I don't live in the PP area. This would have meant 2 wks total for me to get my contacts. Since I needed them asap, I drove out there to pick them up. I asked her why the contact lens couldn't have been shipped directly to me rather than to their office and then to me. Wouldn't I have received them close to the same time as their office? She snickered saying that had they been sent directly to me, it would have taken approximately 3 wks for me to get them. That sounded a little unusual to me. But, what upset me truly wasn't how long the contact lens took for me to finally get them, but rather the condescending tone and the rudeness in which she treated me for asking about it and for being upset about it. I spent over $600 out of pocket on contacts and glasses lenses w/their office (this is w/VSP), so it wasn't like I was only spending a couple of dollars. read more

Ok, so I have to admit that I usually just use Yelp and never really contribute. However, I decided to start giving back since Yelpers have helped me find so many great places. Well, one of the most important things for me is to receive proper healthcare. That is why I always ask around and screen very meticulously. Many people recommended Dr. Polan to me, because he has been here for so long and works with many of UCLA's athletes and faculty. However, I was still ambivalent, because he didn't have any yelp reviews! Anyway, I got past it, finally went in and had a really wonderful experience. First of all, I was able to get an appointment within a week with no hassle. When I arrived I didn't have to wait at all and the office was very nice and cozy. I found Dr. Polan to be a very thorough and concerned medical professional. He explained everything that he was doing, and answered all of my questions. He even noticed that I am especially concerned about not letting my prescription get worse and provided me with many options that my previous optometrists never told me about. He described all of the changes in my eyesight, explained new optometric technology and provided me with cost effective options. I lost my contacts twice but Dr. Polan and his staff were so wonderful about the whole situation. They just don't get better than this. His office staff is also caring and professional. Many people have told me that the office staff makes all the difference, and I can't agree more. Trisha, is very knowledgeable and caring and even goes out of her way to help you find something you will love, but is still within your budget.
