So I have been going to get my teeth cleaned at Dr. Glasban's office and Lynn has been my hygienist over the past six months. At my last exam- for the first time in my entire 40+ years of life, I had significant improvement in my periodontal health!! - I 100% owe this all to Lynn! She is the most caring, enthusiastic and knowledgeable hygienist I've ever met. They also have a state-of-the-art advanced technique of cleaning teeth that is a game changer! I was a patient at Gary Glasband's practice more than 15 years, but past two years the customer service experience was horrendous and unprofessional to the point that I left. In my experience, when Glasband came in to do an assessment after my teeth were cleaned, he had a habit of talking directly to the hygienist and past me. He treated me as if I didn't exist, and left the room. I had to ask the hygienist what he said. On or about November 2022, I completed a survey after my appoint and mentioned my critique of Gary. He did not take it well. Approximately a week or so later, on a Sunday evening, Glasband called me. He did not start the call with anything resembling, Hi Phillip. I saw your comments. I think there was a misunderstanding. Instead, he was irate and very defensive. It was very unprofessional. I was surprised and taken aback by his behavior. He was hostile and acted like a bully. Unfortunately, it was the beginning of a pattern of unprofessional behavior. In mid 2023, one of the staff in the front office was being problematic. I had noticed that every time I had an interaction with Karla, she would make a mistake: misquoting coverage, wrong payment due, and billing the wrong insurance. For some unknown reason, she twice billed an insurance plan that I had FOUR YEARS ago. The correct information was in my file; I asked another person to check, and they confirmed. On or about late July/early August 2023, I had to reschedule an appointment. I gave ample notice, but Karla insisted on wanting to charge me a cancellation fee. I said I wasn't cancellation but rescheduling, so no fee should be applied. She became hostile and a bully in her messages. I decided to call her and find out the misunderstanding. She said she was busy and would have to call back. I didn't hang up the call and heard her call me a homophobic slur ("Stupid, fa***tt). I am a gay man. I immediately called her back and said, "I heard what you called me. I was still on the line." She was speechless, and I repeated myself. She said she would call me back. She did not. I contacted Glasband and said I want to file a complaint against her. I asked what would be the steps. He didn't respond. A few weeks later, I had an appointment in the office. As the appointment was set to begin, Glasband interrupted the appointment. He was visibly upset. He said he looked at the messages and spoke to Karla, and didn't see any need to proceed with a complaint. When I asked, "Would you like to hear my side"? He said, "I don't want to hear what you have to say." I was shocked. Refusing to investigate a complaint from a patient against an employee? Wow. That goes against basic HR best practices. I made the suggestion about "pushing the reset button." Glasband still was visibly upset, but seemed to pull back and relax a bit. The final incident took place in late August, just a few weeks ago. I called the office to check on a scheduled appointment, but no record of the appointment could be found, which was odd. The front office said Glasband would call the next day. He didn't, and the following day, I called him. When he answered, and I identified myself, he became very hostile, yelling at me and speaking very fast. I couldn't understand what he was saying. Then he hung up. I texted about 10 minutes later and asked what had happened, You were obviously angry about something, but I have no idea what, I said. He did not reply. About 5 minutes after this encounter, I severed ties with his practice. It definitely was not a space safe for this gay man. read more

Since I had a new job (bye bye Hoag) and new insurance, it was time (almost a year since my last prophy at Orange Coast Clowns...I mean Cosmetic Dentistry) for the array of new patient services, namely prophy, exam and x-rays. Got their about ten minutes early to allow time for the ubiquitous new patient paperwork (just two pages so relatively painless, thanks to being prepared with my four item medication/supplement list). First seen by one staffer (sorry didn't get names) for bitewing x-rays. Unlike the 'old' film that you had to bite down on and were uncomfortable, this procedure used a holder and had a much more ergonomic shape. Next Dr. Glasband himself came in, took a look at my film on the screen and then gave my teeth the once-over with a small digital camera. Noticed wear from grinding (hmm, they missed that at OCCD) and that I formally had braces (I don't have a type 1 bite). Last was the cleaning with the hygienist; she found a couple pockets in the 4s but overall I was in good shape. Almost fell asleep in the chair a few times (didn't help that I only had a few hours sleep before my appointment, but that's the breaks working security). She asked what kind of toothbrush I use (Oral-B) and corrected me on my form (you don't go back/forth like a manual toothbrush, make scalloping motion). Large parking lot but lots of spaces are reserved; I parked by the bank. Staff and doctor explained everything during the procedures; I was accustomed to x-rays -- cleaning -- exam at Dr. Solomon but hey, that works. read more

I've been a steady in their chairs since I can remember, probably due to genetics combined with my love of novelty candy. Either way I am one of those people that need teeth cleaning every 4 months instead of 6 because I produce more plaque than normal. Hey, even my teeth are overachievers! Beyond that I have odd fillings and only 1 out of 4 of my wisdom teeth so my mouth is a *slight* mess. Dr. Gary Glasband and all of his staff are extremely pleasant and professional and I couldn't be happy to have this dentist to call my own in Long Beach. They have been able to schedule me on short notice and have such state-of-the-art equipment and views on dentistry he's even been featured in Reader's Digest. (That's not how I found him though. I, of course, used Yelp.) If you need a routine cleaning or even something more serious and you don't have a steady dentist in your life I definitely recommend this office. read more

I have no problem w/ Dr Glasband personally. I went in b/c I received a letter offering free exray and discount on cleaning. Well like your car, they advised me I needed more work done, so I paid for a deep cleaning. My complaint is not w/ the entire staff nor their professionalism. What I have aproblem with was the hygenist, I simply said my tooth area was not numb. So I would expect her to inject me in the area I pointed out, well she wanted to save time-not that I needed any I was not in a hurry, but she gave me a shot directly in my nerve. The shot was directed right where my jaw bone is, well needless to say her comment "I got it where it starts- the nerve so it should not take long at all." I didn't have a problem waiting for the shot to take if she had placed it where it was noted, instead she hit me so hard it went into my nerve area.....Well instead of it not taking long, it took over three weeks. I am still annoyed since I went back and discussed this with Dr Glasbland he simply "schooled" me on how this happens to many and how I will have to do mouth exercises to correct the mistake. I simply couldn't open my mouth all the way, it was painful to say the least. And by three weeks later I still can't get my mouth around a sandwich. Had he informed me that he was going to speak to his hygenist regarding her lack of tackfulness and over zealous "time managment" strategy I would have been ok with that. Instead I get a lecture, a couple of tongue depressors to help spread my mouth open wider and work on getting my mouth to open as much as it did before. I used to open it at 26 milimeters, now it opens to barely 16. As long as I have been going to a dentist, and that is over 40 years now, I HAVE NEVER BEEN HIT IN THE NERVE W/ A SHOT, SO IT IS NOT COMMON AND I DON'T APPRECIATE THE DENTIST NOT SPEAKING TO HIS EMPLOYEE WHO DID MADE THE MISTAKE IN THE FIRST PLACE. HOw many other clients does she use this approach on when she is in a hurry to finish? That means others walk out with a sore mouth, a jaw that wont open properly and clicks when you eat your food? Well that was me, and I don't think it needed to happen in the first place! Of course the dr explained I may need to come back and get something to wear at night to help my jaw from clicking and put it back into place. I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE. And I certainly don't want to pay for a mouth guard to correct their mistake. I will not return, had he admitted his hygenist mistake and took the right course of action I would be returning in 3 months. My mistake was answering an ad in the mail. I suggest the next time a client complains, that the DR take it seriously and investigate it more by speaking to the dental hygenist who took the action in the first place. I have spoke to others and nobody has had their nerve shot w/ novicane directly in the bone except one . Her trigeneral nerve was hit and it left her with "shingles" Thank god I am not older than 65 this could have happend to me. I am sure the Dr's young hygenist has no idea what "shingles" is nor will she since he doesn't seem to think they have a problem. read more

I had a problem tooth. Hard-to-reach. Needed to go. Not the kind that gets ground on and filled. It was the kind that just needed to go away. 1st dentist I went to wouldn't touch it. Oral surgeon he referred me to would have been expensive and of course it would have been a surgical solution (oh, and that guy was "out for a month" so there was even more waiting involved..). It was an honest solution, just an expensive one. Dr. Glasband was able to safely and quickly pull the tooth thus solving my problem. In and out like I was just there for a checkup or some other similar simple procedure. Nice part was because of his initial analysis of the problem, it prevented both excessive trauma and expensive surgery. Obviously every situation is different so what worked for me might not work for someone else. But clearly this dentist was careful to make sure what he was doing was safe and that my recovery time would be short with as little pain as possible. And, unlike the medical DR where you call today and then they get you in sometime next month, this dentist's office fit me in VERY quickly. Office was clean and the people were professional too. So yes, I would recommend Dr. Glasband. read more

Dr. Glasband is by far the best dentist I have ever gone to. His office is up to date and modern. His staff is friendly and professional. You can tell they genuinely care about their patents. You also get the feeling that Dr. Glasband cares about his patents and takes great pride in his craft. I have to say that my oral health was not the best when I first started seeing him. In fact I spent the first part of my life avoiding the dentist as much as possible. Dr. Glasband and his friendly staff changed how I looked at the dentist. He has gradually saved my smile and my gums for that matter. He has vastly improved my oral health and even done some cosmetic work as well. My husband and I both go to Dr. Glasband and he is by far the best dentist I have ever been to and I have been to many many dentists in my life. I actually look forward to going to his office, because he and his staff are so professional, gentle, and kind. They have all the latest dental technology, they explain everything in detail before they do it, and they don't try to rip you off. Plus, he is really funny and honest, which puts you at ease. I have had a great experience with this office. Everyones so nice and professional. Ive been too plenty of shady dentist offices but this ones legit. Dr. Glasband obviously knows his trade and will explain every little thing he does articuately. Had a root canal today and only discomfort comes from having my mouth open for the hour. Common sense..i dont know what the other reviewer was blabbin about (the only negative nelly). I recently visited Dr. Glasband after a long break between visits. This was the best experience I've had at the dentist.They used state of the art equipment. I had a lot of work that needed to be done and the staff did an extraordinary job. Not only addressing my dental issues , but the Dr. and the hygienist really were able to keep me out of pain!!! I do have a sensitive mouth which can be challenging to do work on. They took there time to make sure I was completely numb so that they could do the procedures correctly. Dr. Glasband has been very professional in the areas of billing and after care. In the past I have been to dentist offices that have rushed and been very negligent. he took out my front teeth veneers (nice porcelain) in December '16 claiming there was "decay" and I was up for benefits. What he replaced them with were piano key "no translucence" denture looking front teeth (ceramic) He could not get the shape right.One was longer than the other leaving me to look like "Mater" the tow truck guy from the Cars movie. So they were removed. He claimed I was "Hard To Please". It's a red flag when the pro blames the patient for their incompetence. A second attempt of cooking up front teeth on a Cerec machine was made but the results of the second set were the same, no translucence and the shape again was miscalculated since he had pushed back the gum line to do the work in the process, the replacement teeth naturally needed to be taller than before. After the second set was rejected he gave up. He sent me packing with no front teeth, I was in temporary's from 2016 - July 2017. WOW! We were here for about 3 years, many issues were deliberately overlooked, there's a tooth in the back of my mouth, that I know needed attention. I brought it up several times, every time i was told it's an irritated root, and I need a night guard. It went un-attended for so long that it needed a root canal this year and a crown. If you have the choice go elsewhere for anything more important than a cleaning. read more
