I was a bit worried since there were only 1 other tables with people at 130p in the afternoon. However, the lunch special food was DELISH! Fine dining on west side of El Paso! Great experience and service. We got the rib eye and the Chilean sea bass with side of Brussels sprouts. My boyfriend enjoyed the ribeye but not the best in El Paso. The Chilean sea bass a las brasas was very good with the sauce and asparagus. However, I'm used to Chilean sea bass being very thick and this was definitely the thinnest piece I've ever gotten but it was wider than normal so maybe it's cooked butterfly style? Either was it was a good. The Brussels sprouts were awesome as well. On the pricey side for dinner but they do have a good lunch special and now serve brunch so we will have to come back for that! read more

After spending an entire Saturday scrubbing floors and all out cleaning my house, I decided I needed to Treat Myself a bit. So I showered, threw on a dress, some heels, a bit of makeup and hopped in the truck not knowing entirely where I wanted to go. Didnt feel like driving all the way down town, and Saturday night, 9 o'clock-ish, DID NOT want a noisy bar.. then the green lit, cursive font, Garufa sign caught my eye. I was pleasantly surprised to find live Jazz Sax happening! (I absolutely LOVE subtle, live music when I'm out) I think he played a bit of the recorder too. Nothing spectacular, just a nice accompaniment to the ambiance during my late night dinner tryst with this Argentinian cuisine restaurant. Bread was brought out, sliced toasted baguette with spiced/herbed oil, a salsa of sorts, and some kind of white beans. I'm currently "dieting", this diet entails no wheat, gluten, legumes, dairy, alcohol..... but I couldn't let the bread go to waste. Crispy crust on the outside, warm and soft inside... I self proclaimed a Cheat Night! So I went ahead and ordered a glass of wine too: Rheinhessen, a German sweet red. A bit too sweet for my liking, but not bad. For my meal, I couldn't resist the New Zealand Rack of Lamb (second favorite food, right after a simple spaghetti). Ordered medium rare, perfectly cooked, set atop a mound of parmesan mashed potatoes. It was good, but it could have been better with maybe a drizzle of some kind of balsamic glaze and blue cheese crumbles.. or just something to add a kick to the flavors. Cheat Night.. means dessert too, right? Right! I was going to get it in liquid form with just a glass of dessert wine, but they were out. Second choice was Copa Helado. Something about ice cream with a whiskey infused caramel something or other. Out. So cheesecake it was. Not entirely what I was expecting. There WAS cheesecake.. one small layer between 2 layers of moist white normal cake with blueberries baked in. I'm not a huge cake fan, so I'd rather this had been an actual cheesecake and not a cheesecake-cake. But it was okay. Should've ordered a cup of coffee to go with. Service was decent, not overly friendly or anything. But I'm okay with that, I'm no good at small talk. I was pleased that the owner made a point to visit every single table though. Extremely polite, and concerned for the satisfaction of his customers. Also, check in gets you a free martini. I only ordered wine, so I didn't use it. It's a pretty pricey place, but it was Treat Yo'Self type of night for me. So it was worth it. I could see myself going back, maybe for a date night sometime. read more

We had a reservation for six and were placed at a tiny table, up against the wall in the back. The server was extremely slow - took ages to bring the drinks ordered, and then again to come back to take orders. The plate of bread with little bowls of sausages had mini pieces of pretty boring bread, and it took quite a while to get a few more. One diner had the tuna carpaccio, and that was good; but the food for the rest of us was not nearly as good as it has been at past occasions - and prices are very high for what you get. $7.28 for a small empanada...$10.40 for a dish of creamed spinach. Mixed drinks are not listed on the wine menu, you just ask for something - and find out what the price is when you get the bill ($15 for a martini). We have enjoyed this place in the past and will probably try it again, but not with much enthusiasm. read more

This is one of our favorite places in El Paso. Garufa is an excellent restaurant with excellent service and everything on their menu is amazing. We have had the lamb, we've had a few steaks, and I think we have tried all the appetizers on their menu by now. We come here often and every single time we go here, it is always a great experience. The ambience is great too. The servers are always so nice and accommodating and they really know how to treat their patrons. Also, every single time we go, we are always celebrating something special in the family, and they always make a big deal about our celebrations and make us feel special. 100/10. You definitely have to try Garufa if you are in the area. It is perfect for any occasion. read more

What a wonderful experience! Went here for a friend birthday dinner and it was wonderful. For starters they do not just serve your average bread and butter. No this place takes it a little further; they brought out some pinto beans, a hot salsa and this green sauce which was delicious. We ordered a bottle of wine which is cost effective if your sharing it with a table. Then I got the ribeye with mash potatoes, a red wine glaze, and onion on top. It was to die for. Then her birthday cake came out and it was succulent and delicious. Over all a fantastic experience I would recommend this place! read more

I had somewhat of a odd experience here. This place is classy and a nice place for an upscale dinner date. I ordered the sausage and peppers appetizers (2 separate apps) and they were both stellar good. Especially the sausage. It's really quite amazing. I finished with the steak and found the steak to be just ok. Ok to the point that I definitely would not order it again. So? I guess come and order anything but the steak? Since it was middle week we didn't get dressed to the nine's, however if you're here for the weekend make sure you dress appropriately. Our service was classic Argentinian attendance. Drinks were spot on, suggestions were well thought out and descriptive. We had nine in our party and each of us felt very well attended to. See the pictures for all the amazing dishes that we had. My wife and I clearly picked the perfect place to celebrate our 5 year anniversary! Everything about our experience was simply magnificent. The ambiance was so calm and relaxing, and we were treated to a live saxophonist. Our waiter, Jerry, could not have made us feel more welcomed and comfortable. The food was some of the most delicious I've ever eaten. I enjoyed my Buer Blance Chilean Sea Bass, and my wife had the New Zealand Rack of Lamb. We had a Tuna Carrpaccio appetizer that is making my mouth water even now. When Jerry learned of our special occasion, he treated us to the flaming chocolate cake dessert! Went to garufa with some friends looking for a good, new, steak restaurant in el paso. We started with a few appetizers, which weren't bad but nothing that would say this is a fine dining establishment. The sausage was alright but it didnt seems like anything that you could not buy from albertsons and throw on the grill at any back yard bbq. Our party ordered two 14 oz ribeyes, and two 7 oz filets all mid- medium rare. The filets were cooked and seasoned well. The ribeyes are what makes this my last visit, only one had any visible sear and both cuts screamed "choice" quality meat (each steak was $40). Neither ribeye had any semblance of seasoning or love in the cooking process, could barely eat half before I gave up. Awful. Well then we started drinking, the Argentinean wine the waiter recommended was pretty decent, but my friend and I ordered old fashioned's and they were pretty bad, like one was red and one was brown. Taste was something I hope to never encounter again. Our table ordered desert, the flaming chocolate cake and the apple strudel. Both were good, but nothing to come back for. French press coffee was a good choice. Bottom line: I cannot forgive a steak house that cooks and serves a ribeye like that. I should have heeded those reviews before me, and found an alternative instead. One star. read more

As soon as you walk in the door you realize what a nice place this is! The staff is really making sure that you are ok and they take care of you almost immediately. Our waiter was great! His name was Matt. I hope that when you go there he gets to serve your table. He knows everything on the menu and has a great personality. We started off with an appetizer called Provoletta, which was very yummy. We tried the Lomo Argentino and the Bolognese pasta which was my favorite!!! I also have to say that the martini was very good. The lomo argentino was soft, cooked they way I wanted, and delicious. I was accompanied by some caramelized onions and a grilled jalapeño. Amazing restaurant! Everything about this restaurant is fantastic, from the food, to the decor and the staff. Their empanadas are the best empanadas I have had! They have a variety of empanadas, and if you want to share, you can definitely do so! My husband and I, split the empanadas in half so we could try them. You also get complimentary bread which is delicious, with three house sauces, from spicy chile de árbol sauce which was my favorite. We had their bone marrow appetizer, and the appetizer was large! We were surprised by how much we got for the price, and it was soo delicious. The taste was just exquisite. I ordered their shrimp fettuccine Alfredo, and the Alfredo sauce was soo good, soo good. I highly recommend this plate if you want an Italian plate, their sauce is creamy and flavorful. Our waiter was Juan and he was very helpful, fantastic service. He explained what each plate consisted of, and had great recommendations for us. In addition, he was very attentive, LOVED HIM! As for their alcoholic beverages, we had their sangria, very, very good! My husband ended up getting two glasses of sangria- yes it was that good! My husband and I were starving and craving steak. We found this place on Yelp, called to make reservations, and headed out. When we got here, there was some confusion as to where to seat us, which made me uncomfortable. I'm used to hostesses just seating you and that's that. But she consulted with her manager for a while and then gave us three choices: bar, upstairs, or wait for a table downstairs. This signaled to me that the section upstairs was not staffed and we risked sitting there for 20 minutes with no service. I tried to ask if the upstairs section was closed but I think there was a communication breakdown. So we decided to sit at the bar and get a drink while waiting for a downstairs table. After sitting at the bar for a while, the manager finally convinced us to sit upstairs. By then, another party was up there so if the section was really closed, at least we'd be in it together! Apparently this whole thing convinced the manager that we didn't like our table because he kept checking in to see if the seating was ok. But, seriously, I don't really care where you seat me as long as I get service. After the confusion with the seating, everything went much better. We were served bread with a spicy red sauce, a chimichurri sauce, and a tangy white bean sauce. It may seem weird to some to put sauces on bread, but it was really good! Trent, our server, recommended some excellent appetizers. The proveleta ($8) was awesome! He also explained that they have turnovers, commonly known as empanadas, which are a must try. At $3.50 a piece, why not! The carne turnover was terrific! I think I could just sit at the bar, drink margaritas, and eat turnovers all day here. But definitely come here for the steaks! We were still starving so I got the lomo argentino ($39), which is a 17 oz tenderloin. My husband got the bife angosto ($26), which is a 17 oz New York steak. Both were excellent and perfectly cooked medium rare. We also got a side of french fries ($4), which were extremely good, and grilled vegetables ($5), also good. For dessert, we got the copa helada ($8) which is ice cream and pecans mixed with whiskey. If you don't like melted ice cream, then is probably isn't the dessert for you. Since I love it and often let my ice cream melt before serving it, this was perfect. Too full to finish it but it was extremely tasty. This restaurant has great service. The bartender was friendly and efficient, as was our server. I had a great time here and highly recommend it for visitors to El Paso. read more

Last Saturday, out of nowhere my boyfriend proclaimed, "Let's get dinner somewhere nice tonight." I had a Rolodex of places I quickly flipped through in my mind, all of them seemed like good options so I threw on a black dress and some heals and said something to the tune of, "Let's eat!" As far as lunch goes, it always seems like he's inside my head (he somehow just knows when I'm craving Track One or Chipotle), but he always surprises me with his choices for dinner. I never know what to expect and yet he somehow always blows whatever tiny expectations I do have out of the water. Garufa is no exception, in fact in may have just become the rule. I was semi-familiar with Garufa... and by "semi-familiar" I mean I had read some reviews and seen all the pictures on Yelp. But I never really got the whole feel for Garufa because there aren't a whole lot of pictures of the place even though there are 50+ reviews. I finally understand why. It's just too beautiful with the quiet live music, perfectly set tables, dim lighting, art placed ever so perfectly, and steaks made for the Gods. I barely snapped two pictures the entire meal. I really wanted to order a martini because they have a check-in deal and I love me a Yelp check-in deal, but we took a look at the wine menu and were immediately enticed. We landed on a bottle of the Seven Daughters Moscato. This wine! Crisp, light, and a touch sweet. We drank the whole bottle! Before I continue, I should say... yes, I know it's (sort of) a sin to drink a white wine with a steak, but dammit I love white wine. And you know what, the wine paired perfectly with our appetizer so no harm, no foul. We started with the Tuna Carpaccio. *Drool. I am a big lover of raw tuna so it's rare that I pass it up any time it's an option. Their tuna was so delish! The thing that stood out to me initially was the size of the tuna. These were pretty thick slices of tuna, easily 1/3 an inch. Alongside the complimentary bread with a pesto served on the side, we devoured the tuna. The tuna was laid in a bed of a semi sweet sauce and topped with green onions and (what I think was, but I can't be sure since I ate it so quickly) cucumbers. This dish really set the standard for what was to come. Next up, we both ordered 14 oz. steaks... mine the Ribeye, his the 28 day aged Ribeye. Don't get me wrong mine was great, but when I stole a bite of my boyfriend's I knew I made a mistake. Order the 28 day aged Ribeye. Always! It just melts in your mouth! Both of our streaks were cooked exactly how we requested. The steaks were both phenomenal in their own respects! The steaks come along with sauteed onions and a jalapeno. The steak was fine without them, but it was a nice little touch to add to bites. I also ordered a side of asparagus which I couldn't get enough of. Just buttery enough and topped with almonds. My boyfriend ordered a side of mashed potatoes and of course I stole a bite. The mashed potatoes are the simple, yet classy version where they're not trying so hard to be something other than mashed potatoes. They were also buttery good and lightly topped with cheese (Parmesan, I think). As much as I wanted to savor every bite at Garufa, it was entirely too hard to do because it was all so exquisite! Garufa is perfect for a date night or a gathering with friends. The staff are all polite and work quickly so if you're thinking about eating here for whatever occasion, know that your night will run smoothly and better than you could've ever imagined!
