The donuts are always fresh & warm & otherworldly delicious. The barn also offers many local treats, apple cider, fresh eggs & veggies, fudge, honey, handmade products & so much more. Look up to see the train hanging from the ceiling! Slyboro Ciderhouse is usually serving hard cider, beer on tap, cocktails etc.

SERVICE-DOG DISCRIMINATION…read more I arrived with my trained service dog. Don, the parking attendant, told me my service dog could not leave my vehicle, claiming federal food-safety laws prohibited it. I explained that my dog is a service animal and that the ADA specifically addresses this issue that service dogs are exempt. I was directed to management. I spoke with Kim, the Cider House manager, and directed her to the U.S. Department of Justice ADA website, including the information explaining that food-safety rules do not provide a blanket exception to exclude service animals. They were given the federal guidance. They chose to ignore it. She contacted the owner. The owner's "solution" was that I could drive my car into the orchard..but my service dog had to remain inside the car not with me My service dog is necessary to mitigate my disability. A service dog locked inside a vehicle cannot perform those disability-related functions for me while I am outside the vehicle. That is not equal access. I told them directly that I believed I was being discriminated against. I told them I had three witnesses and that I would be filing a federal discrimination complaint. Their response? They were comfortable with that .....and believed they had done nothing wrong. What happened was humiliating and deeply upsetting. I went to Hicks Orchard expecting to participate like everyone else. Instead, I was singled out because of my disability and told that the service animal I rely on could not accompany me. A service animal sitting in a car cannot mitigate a disability. Equal access means being able to use the service animal I rely on...not being told I am not allowed to use assistance to mitigate my disability. We have been a team for over 6 years and travel alot internationally. We are well versed in these experiences and try to politely educate others. When we encounter people who aren't fully aware of service dog access rights, we are typically met with understanding once we show them ADA laws. Hicks refused to even consider they may misunderstand federal laws. I hope they will become more educated on ADA public access rights for service dogs to avoid excluding those with disabilities and the impact it has on their life's. We unfortunately left and will not return. our family has been visiting Hicks for years as a family tradition. our family and service dog was welcomed with open arms down the road at McWhorter's Orchard and had a great time there instead. we will continue our family tradition there moving forward.

Of course availability depend on the time of year; I recall they had Cortland, Snap Dragon, HoneyCrisp and a few others in early October. The women who (may have been the owner) helped me was so knowledgable and friendly. I asked for super tart, which are either very early season or late season apples, but she told me to try the Snap Dragon and while it was a little sweeter than I generally like, it was so fresh that I loved them. They have some of the other orchard related products, cider, preserves, eggs, gift items and more.

I also tried a flight of cider, including cherry cider. All were on the dry side, even those labeled as "sweet". If you like dry cider, this is the spot for you. I prefer sweeter cider, but it's good to know for certain after trying the "dry" ciders here. Cherry cider was eh, too tart and dry for me. Food was great (Mediterranean tart, heirloom potato leek tart, soft pretzel with mustard, and smokey apple chili soup with beef). I also bought a half dozen bag of cider donuts, and they were delicious.

We were able to get there for the Cider Garden to be open. Two flights got us a taste of almost all of the ciders! available. What a great variety. We ordered our flights and a couple bowls of soup at the counter, and found a seat in the garden. Surrounded by the orchards and flower gardens, this was a fantastic setting to sample ciders and have a bite. Soups were brought to us in the garden, and we really had a chance to enjoy the day. We stopped in the store to get a case of our favorite ciders to take home - and, of course, a couple fresh apple cider donuts for the road.

We discovered them recently on our drive to dinner at the Cock 'n' Bull restaurant. The farm planted their blueberry bushes in 2013 and had their first harvest in 2018. We learned this while talking to the friendly wife of the owning family. They are set back in from Galway Rd, just east of the Galway traffic light. Look for the sign on their truly classic, white (fire?)truck at the edge of their driveway. They have a small retail stand from which you can arrange to pick your own blueberries or purchase pints and quarts of berries freshly picked that morning. They also sell pies from Smith's Orchard, cookies and doughnuts from someplace that I didn't get the name of, girl scout cookies, jewelry, maple syrup, and certainly several other items that I didn't take note of. Besides being a really nice place to stop by, the blueberries are delicious! Large, ripe, flavorful berries, no comparison to the ones coming from New Jersey or from far-off countries and currently available in any supermarket. Their pickers also do an excellent job of removing the stems from each berry. While I can't speak for the picking experience, they expect to be open through August. You may want to go and pick your own.

I don't feel it's been that long since I've been here, but they did rearrange things and the store seems a lot bigger. Yes, please! While we didn't buy any groceries, there were plenty of local farm fresh vegetables, eggs, and meats available, in addition to whole and ground coffee beans, breads, and other goods. As for the outdoor portion, there was a wide array of vendors and the prices were very reasonable. The non-farmer vendors offered great products like soaps, oils, baked goods and cooked to order crepes, which were delicious. If we lived in the area, we would likely be there every week. *Our visit was during COVID19, the Farmers Market offered and supported good protocols as did each vendor.
