    So fresh!!

I was up here close by for a wedding and I had to come visit. Hicks is such a family friendly orchard with so many choices of experiences... you can pick your own or they have countless bags ready for you to choose from. You want to taste cider(hard or not) they have that as well. The shops are full of great merch, sweets, beverages and more. You can really sense the pride of this family owned orchard. The holidays are coming up so stop by and stock up on everything Apple!!!

I see this very happy pleasant girl at the Shirt Factory vendor fair on Thursday nights. She always has a smile. So I decided to take a tide to Hocks Orchid on her recommendation. once I arrived I realized I have been there prior. Its a nice working or hid with plenty to do. Today when I went it was very quiet as it was during the week. I walked around a-bit and looked at the goats as well as the buildings and property. Being a spirit person, what really grabbed my attention was the hard cider room. The tasting room was set up very inviting. The ciders on the shelves all had signs that explain them. I asked for help and a you g man I believe his name was Brendon came in and gave me a very in depth education on the ciders. He was as much a pleasure to speak with as the girl at Shirt factory. I did purchase two bottles and looking forward to sharing and drinking. would highly recommended and definitely will return for some apple picking.

My family and I took a trip to Granville, NY. It was must to visit Hicks Orchard before we left. The kids had fun, there was a bouncy house, some animals that they can feed as well. A lot of people were there on the Sunday we attended, so the line for the donuts were long, but definitely worth it. They make them right in front of you. So they're fresh and hot. We got two bags !!! We also made sure to get two bottles of Hicks famous apple cider !

Even if this orchard didn't produce delicious hard cider, I would still give it five stars on the strength of its apple cider donuts. Man, those are good. And part of what makes them good is that the bakery keeps cranking them out as needed, as opposed to trying to get ahead of the rush. That means, you're going to have to wait in a longer line. However, it means you will also be rewarded with hot, fresh donuts. It's important to hit the cider tasting room before the donut eating. The sweet donuts would ruin the flavor of the ciders. Plus the wait in the donut line will help make sure you aren't feeling the effects of the booze by the time you get back in your car. That is a win-win. The only problem is that it's a bit too far out of the way to make it our regular donut spot. However, if you find yourself anywhere near this great orchard, you owe it to yourself to make a stop.

I think this is a local favorite. Visited with the bf's family while in New York. They have the best cider donuts I've ever had, literally fresh off the conveyor belt. I kinda consider myself a cider donut snob since I live in Mass and there are some very good cider donuts around there, but I don't think you can beat freshly fried donuts! Delicious! They come in both plain and sugar...the sugar being my favorite. We also picked up some house made cider and picked apples. They had only Macs this weekend but it sounds like they have other apple varieties as well. A cool place!

How can it be that I've never reviewed Green Mountain Orchards on Yelp?…read moreThis is the best place for pick-your-own. Beautiful fruit, beautifully maintained property. Well organized, easy to get in/out, minimal need for walking, and very little mud on one's feet. We pick blueberries each summer, multiple times per season. We have picked peaches in summer 1-2 times, and have picked apples in the fall a few times. Each time it's a great experience. The apple picking gets crowded, but never crazy. We've never had an experience where we were sent to pick in a section that had been picked over and had little fruit. Each time it's a great experience, both for adults and children. Well organized traffic, parking, checkout, bags/buckets. I can't recall a time I felt like things were crazy or disorganized. Prices are fair. The big bonus of course are the treats that they bake up: apple cider doughnuts, pastries, everything I've ever had has been amazing. Makes me want to move in and work there, it's just so wonderful. Highest recommendation!

Love it here. Free…read morecompletely free - no admission fee, no parking fee. Very friendly people. Small business vibes. Follow your maps and once you cross the bridge they have tons of signs to direct you, hard to get lost. Trust they're hours, we showed up in the pouring rain and they're still open 9am-5pm weekdays. As soon as you walk in you'll get free samples. We sampled 5 cheeses and 2 grades of maple syrup - it sells itself. One cheese is made with unpasteurized milk - others include sharp cheddar, sage, smoked. Convinced me to try traveling home with cheese for the first time. Tons of products available for sell including from other farms as well. I recommend picking up some of the Red Kite Candy caramels they have there. If you liked it as much as me their factory is about a 30 min drive away. Other activities include petting animals (not in winter), walking trail, and self guided tour of their maple house. Wasn't able to do the trail in the rain but I would estimate you can do all of this in 2 hours. Not at all like Billings Farm if you're concerned about going to both or only have time for one. Billings has an admission fee, no samples of milk or cheese though the make both. More of a museum but they do have up close interactions with their cows (even in winter) for the kids, butter churning, candle dipping. Recommend Billing for taking kids on homesteading field trip, Sugarbush a quick stop for foodie/charcuterie person IMPORTANT: They do NOT sell sugarbush products at any of the stores in Woodstock so don't plan to buy more later and have regrets like us - we looked in every store and couldn't find it. Not sure about Quechee though. Products can also be ordered online and shipped

I'm a cheese head…read more So when my friend was making our itinerary for a trip to VT, I was really excited to try this place! Weather got a little hariy getting there with the slushy roads, but we made it! It's pretty remote location with no street lights, so if driving in the dark look for the signs to get there and trust your GPS. There's a large parking lot across from the entrance to the little store/shop. The shop is actually the owners old family home I belive. We arrived pretty much at closing time, but we were still welcomed warmly. We got a cheese & maple syrup tasting which was yum and informative, and the staff member that did it was really nice, I forgot her name, but see photo below. One of the cheeses has won a cheese competition, very cool. We also got to meet the owner, but she was busy getting Christmas orders together. I perused all of the cheeses I wanted and settled on 4. We got to try 2 out of the 4 from the cheese sampling. The nice lady that checked me out even gave me some nice to-go samples as well. The smoked cheese was my fav, and the sage. But I enjoyed them all. I was able to easily fly home to TX with them due to the cold weather of the season. After the tasting, we got to peruse the store. They have so much other stuff to buy in additon to cheese and maple, tons of knick-knacks and gifts and merch. We didn't get to explore the farm after since it was pitch black when we left, too bad. Enjoy!
