We drove all the way from NYC to go apple picking here! We came here during their first weekend of the season/labor day weekend and it was SOOO worth the drive for us. They charge per person entering the orchard ($14 per peck bag = 1 person; $28 per half bushel bag = 2 people). Having driven all this way it was as a no brainer to get the 2 half bushels. Being the first ones in the orchard was great, there were soooo many apples to pick and they were all so delicious! Weekends they have live reggae music, which welcomed us as we parked our cars. Don't forget about the apple cider donuts that were being made FRESH throughout the day for $8/half dozen or $15/dozen. I haven't had freshly made apple cider donuts in so long (near NYC it's always pre-made for who knows how long and a bit stale), this was such a treat!!! We're already planning our next drive up here later in the season for other types of apples! read more

This is a great spot! Very popular though so I try to go during off peak hours. I don't do the pick your own only because I prefer honeycrisp apples and they are not available for picking yourself. They have excellent cider donuts and a lovely store with lots of local produce, cider, maple syrup and hard cider. Haven't tried the pop up dinners yet but hope to do that soon. very disappointing. To go apple picking here, each person is required to buy a bag to enter the orchard. I would not recommend going here with a group, or if you have multiple children, unless you want to be forced to bring home a million pounds of apples. We drove all the way to the orchard, but left without picking, as it would have cost us over $100, and required us to pick way more apples than we need or have use for. ridiculous. Their fresh apple cider donuts are delicious. I ordered them without the sugar and they gave them to me fresh off the line. They were hot and they were amazing! We ate the whole bag in the parking lot. I had to go back and get more to bring home. We went there for apple picking and I have to say their per person bag requirement kind of caught me off guard. I've been to other places where you can buy a bag or as many bags as you want to go pick apples but this one requires every single person to purchase a bag. A peck of apples is $14. So you can imagine if you have a bunch of kids over their age requirement and have to buy a bag for each kid, it's very expensive and you get more apples than you could possibly eat. We go for the experience and usually fill a bushel bag or two. I did not like that. It was the reason why we did not go to Bowman's. They got us anyway. The store was filled with fresh vegetables and apples and all kinds of things you could purchase. Breads, maple syrup, soup mixes. I would come here just to shop! There was a live music, which really set the tone for a beautiful fall day. We bought some cute bucket hats from a vendor out front. The staff was super friendly too! read more

Incredibly fun spot that is also surprisingly diverse--particularly during Apple season, of course. But even off-season, you can shop year round at their farm market and/or enjoy their very cool taproom (cider-forward, natch, but some solid local beers as well). The farm market is amazing, with excellent produce and local products you'd expect at a market such as jellies, and of course some excellent cider donuts. They work hard to make visiting here a destination, particularly on weekends, with live music for adults and other events, and of course apple picking, mazes and other fun kid-friendly activities. The apple picking itself is a bit hit-and-miss--a lot of spots can be sparse--perhaps a victim of their own success. Selection of apples was small (Cortland, Macs, Jonamacs, or Ginger Gold)- and the apples we WERE allowed to pick actually we're not even good. SOOOO many small ones that did not taste amazing. Some even looked diseased. There were a few large ones, but even those were just not that flavorful or juicy. On top of that, they charge by the PERSON. Our party of four had to pay 14$ EACH for a peck size bag of apples just to enter the orchard. After I was $56 dollars lighter, I felt compelled to fill the bags, but I really wish I could have seen the apples FIRST because I never would have paid that much for apples that would have been better at Walmart or Aldi's. For years we had been driving further away to go to Bowman's orchards, but thought to try Saratoga Apple because it was closer. Never again. I would rather drive farther to enjoy what we pick. read more

I've been a fan of Saratoga Apple for quite a few years. Making a point to visit whenever I'm in the area and thrilled with their large selection of freshly picked apples (if I don't have time to pick them myself). Today, the owner, a really nice man, was on hand and when I described the sort of apple I was looking for he highly recommended the ZESTAR apple. It's an early season variety. The flavor is an intense and unique combination of sweet & tart, crispy, white flesh and my new favorite apple! They have a selection of farm-stand fruits, vegetables, some delightfully fragrant freshly baked pies and cider donuts (which people line-up for). The tasting room with beer & cider looks like fun and one of these visits I'll try it out. read more

I've been to Saratoga Apple a handful of times, for multiple purposes. None of which has been to pick my own apples. As a side note, I haven't been apple picking for years. It's hard to say why. But I think some of it has to do with the changing climate and how warm it has been during harvest season. Apple picking in short sleeves just kind of feels wrong. My last trip to Saratoga Apple was for the Tour de Cider Donut. Which is funny, because my very first trip to Saratoga Apple was also for the Tour de Cider Donut. While the first outing was underwhelming, the latest visit was fantastic. The apple cider donuts we received were hot and fresh out of the fryer. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and totally delicious. They were well worth the wait in line. In between those cider donut outings, I went to Saratoga Apple for one of the 9 Mile East Farm pop up dinners. Or maybe it was two of them? Regardless, farmer Gordon and his team do fantastic work. Plus now that Saratoga Apple has hard cider, and welcome guest breweries to share some of the tap lines, the place is even better. My only wish is that I lived closer. But this is, without doubt, another rural gem of the Capital Region food scene. read more

My friend and I were spending the afternoon in downtown Saratoga, but wanted to do something unique so we came here. This is about a 15 minute drive from the city, so it can be easily incorporated with a visit to 'toga. I loved coming here! I left the Capital District in 2014 for the warmer climates of CA & FL, so I haven't experienced any true NY fall activities since 2013 and coming here filled that void. You can also pick apples here, I'm not super into that, but a lot of my friends and acquaintances love doing that each fall. I greatly enjoyed trying the hard cider here, my friend and I split a flight of 4. The stuff that is brewed here was amazing and all of the ciders were fairly light. They also sell it by the pint and for growlers, but this alcohol involved experience was a bit pricey. I had fresh cider donuts from 2 of the 4 orchards I visited while in NY & VT, the ones here were the BEST! We saw signs for live music performances here, so that could be a fun activity to plan for. I would highly recommend this spot to out of towners. It was so fun to soak up the Upstate New York fall vibes here. read more

I heard so much about Saratoga County. And that this town is very popular for their apple orchards. So, I choose to visit this amazing place name Sarasota Apple, just because of their history. This place been going thru 5 generation already. The place is very interesting and the staff was very kind, friendly, helpful and informative. They also have few apples on a table with their names for you to taste their flavors and found out which one would be your favorite apple. My was the Fuji!!! If you are planning to pick up some apple I will suggest to call them before making the drive there. Apples season I believe start on October. This place is perfect family!!! You probably already know Saratoga Apple is the place to go for all kinds of apples, fresh produce, cider doughnuts, pies, apple picking, and of course apple cider. You might even know that recently it is also a great place to go to sample and buy "hard" cider. They make their own "hard" cider. Yes, you must be 21 or older to sample and buy "hard" cider. But did you know that in their tasting/tap room they also sample and sell cider made by other New York State apple growers? And wait for it... They also sample and sell craft beers brewed locally. If you don't want to drive around to the various craft breweries to sample a variety of beers, or to fill your growlers with multiple brews, stop here at Saratoga Apple. On our visit they had beers from Argyle, Shmaltz, Davidson Bros., R. S. Taylor, and Common Roots, all on tap. For "guest" ciders, they offered from West Seneca, NY, a McKenzie's seasonal cider with cinnamon and nutmeg, and a black cherry cider. We actually ended up buying a bottle of Awestruck hard cider with hibiscus and ginger, from Sydney, NY, after sampling it. Just a touch of floweriness with a bit of zing of ginger - really good! Still love this place. Brought friends from out of town so that they could indulge in the cider donuts. And, of course, peruse the store and buy some apples...and/or some of the other interesting items (honey, locally grown produce, maple syrup, jams, jellies, pies, cookies...etc.). And...now they have hard cider! There are 2 different kinds - one that they brew onsite and the other that is brewed elsewhere (but with their apples). I didn't get a chance to taste the cider varieties but my friends preferred the one that was brewed elsewhere. Farm stand & tasting room with beer & cider samples and farm fresh dinners on Friday/Saturday evenings. We arrived around 5:15pm and browsed the market before wandering back to the tasting room where we were invited to seat ourselves. Drinks were purchased separately from farm food- but you can easily test your balancing skills by grabbing drinks from the bar and taking them to your table. Our evening featured BLTs, ELTs (eggplant) and Corn Chowder along with a salsa and eggplant hummus dip. Everything was tasty- and the grilled corn may have picked up some bacon flavor from the grill which actually made it a little tastier. They were a little light on staffing and use of fly paper (but it is a farm- so... expected), but the casual atmosphere, good breeze outside, and friendly staff made up for any delays in service. read more

My family and I came here one rainy fall day as a recommendation from a loowner at Rustic Barn Campground and it was still absolutely perfect. We purchased a bag to keep the apples in and waited for the tractor ride to bring us to the orchard. Our 7 year old had the BEST time running through the rows of trees, searching for the best ones. Once we came back to the farmer's market, we were welcomed with the intoxicating sent of fresh, hot apple cider donuts. They have an amazing array of fresh produce, vegetables, and fruit; open year round. I cannot recommend this place enough. We will be back as often as possible! read more

Was told on the phone that you pay per bag and had honey crisps to pick. Got there and was told it was 10 dollars per person and had no Honey Crisps for picking. It was 60 dollars to go apple picking. It's 10 dollars to enter the orchard for everyone in your party and you're gifted a bag for picking. Would be fine for a party of 2. But for 6 people all in the same family is ridiculous! Now I have 60 pounds of apples! I will not be going back. Ever. read more

I picked this place as a meet up location with a friend where I thought I would be able to buy some produce and maybe a nice bunch of farm flowers. Sadly disappointed to find they were not stocked with much of anything at all. It was pretty dirty and unkept, too. Very rundown. This is a great little store. I have never been here before and was taken here on an outing with my folks and they wanted to show my wife and I this place. As you can see from the picture it is a place that sells produce and across the street was an apple orchard where you would go and pick your own apples you could not really see it from where we were so I was not able to get a picture of it but you could walk over and into that area and pick your own apples. They sold fresh bride apple cider donuts there that were still warm when you purchase them and they were truly delicious they really did melt in your mouth when you ate them I never did have a donut quite like that before. The only problem that I saw with this place was the fact that it was very chaotic in there and there was really no way for an individual such as myself who has never been there before to know quite what the system is if they're looking to purchase something such as Donuts. There is no sign telling you where to actually purchase them inside the store and you can't see them but at the register they have what looks like bags and the donuts are in the bags and they are purchased right there and they fly off the counter so fast that they stay fresh. There is also I'm outside option to purchase Donuts as well but if you didn't see that when you went in you would have never known. The store seems to bottleneck right as you walk into the building so it gets very confusing as soon as you walk in that's where I feel the biggest problem comes in with the new experience. Overall, it was an awesome experience I really enjoyed it there and I believe that if you like different types of vegetables and candies and delicious donuts and other type things and of course apples then this is going to be an excellent place for you. I can buy apples for about 20 cents a pound cheaper at my local produce market. But I would not get the variety or the knowledge of knowing from where my apples came. Even if, by some chance, some of the apples here were not grown locally, they know how to take care of apples here, and you know the cider is local and fresh. On my first visit here, I also sampled a variety of apple I had never seen before, Zestar. It has become my new favorite variety of apple, and it's something none of my local stores and markets carry. You can buy more than apples and apple products here, but unless you are doing one-stop shopping for produce, you may still want to visit your grocery store for the rest. The produce they carry is beautiful, but it is a bit more expensive. But there is one other produce product I would definitely buy here. That's their heirloom tomatoes. They're beautiful. I also appreciate that they have samples of their apples available for tasting. More places need to do this, and I'm surprised they don't. The other produce, honeys, jellies, baskets, etc., round out the market experience here. It's up to you how much more you get besides the apples. But do get the apples! read more

I really love this place and Otis and Eugene you can kiss my ass I'm going all in with 5 stars. I brough my totally adorable goddaughter last weekend and we had a blast. I love my goddaughter so much I just want to sqeual when I see her. She is cute and loves the camera. She has big eyes and knows my cats name better than mine. The've got pick your own apples, cider and doughnuts. It's a mad house this time of year so plan on some lines to get anything. The plantation has rides out to the orchard, and reggae music on Sundays. The Saturday I was there had a fiddle and acoustic duo that was fun and fit the season. It's a beautiful place, and I like the people that work there. read more

We were hoping to come and pick a bag...only in Saratoga would you be charged to walk in an orchard. Literally pick any other orchard in the capital region than this one. Very nice looking place. I've only been here for an event, but it was nice to see all of the available fruits and veggies in the middle of winter. During my event they had cider tasting and that was amazing! I recommend the Scrumpy, but I like dry wines/ciders, so if you love sweet, they have other options as well. read more

I went for the cider donuts. Like, I went WAY out of my way to get my hands on delicious cider donuts. I live in Colorado now where I am quite fortunate to have an apple orchard owned by an Upstate NYer and they sell donuts about 1 month out of the year. When I visited the area, and I discovered this place sells them year round, I had to make it part of my trip. I called in advance... "Will there be apple cider donuts today?" "Maybe." "We'll be there in about 45 minutes. Will there be donuts then?" (Believe me I do not like being a pain, but we were driving a distance with a donut-happy child and we didn't want to leave empty-handed.) "Maybe." Alrighty! When we got there, and YES we got donuts, I knew immediately who I had spoken to on the phone. She was the only person there and we were the only customers, and she didn't acknowledge us for a good 10 minutes. Not even any eye contact. It was kind of awkward. I think the robo-donut maker was being extra temperamental that day and she was frustrated, but whoa. Anyway, sure, go for the donuts -- if they have them -- and not for the bedside manner. read more

Great place to shop for produce, do some apple picking, and enjoy some of the best cider donuts and hot and cold cider (both soft and hard!) if it was closer I'd definitely stop by more often. I really wanted to like this place. We just moved back to the area and have been missing out on good, NY apple cider donuts for 13 years, and this place is just down the road from our new home. Locals are always recommending it, but I was so disappointed. The prices for apple picking are excessive (it was half the price for our family of 5 to go up to McWhorters in Argyle, they had fresh, hot cider donuts and the gentleman who provided the tractor ride was super helpful about what varieties were available and even gave us some great tips on which trees would have the best apples). I figured I'd check this place out even though the orchard setup was less than ideal. First off, there was no acknowledgement by staff when we entered (no big deal, it gets busy, I understand) or while we browsed. We finally found something interesting and couldn't find a price, so we asked the nearest person who appeared to be staff and he was very friendly, but explained that he didn't actually work there, was just helping out and helped us find someone who did work there. The first person we asked might have been the owner, she had put the phone down but was apparently still in the middle of the call - she rudely waved us off when we approached and said "one thing at a time." Ok, not the best way to greet a customer but you're in the middle of something, fine. The next person had no idea and referred us to someone else who finally found the price tag on the item. My last attempt to give this place a chance was to get some donuts to take home. The staff person at the counter seemed busy, so I waited for her to finish and asked if I could get a dozen donuts. Her response: "why not." I don't know if she was being sarcastic and I'm usually more than willing to give people the benefit of the doubt especially in the service industry, but the way she said it combined with the rest of the interaction was very off-putting. To add insult to injury, the donuts weren't even warm or anything to write home about. I hope things improve in the future because they're so close and I want to support local farmers and businesses, but I need to feel appreciated as a customer first and my experience doesn't seem to be uncommon. read more

Just a rant about apple picking this weekend. The orchard we elected to go to, Saratoga Apple, might want to think about the way they charge for the "experience". Apparently, this is their new policy. Back in the day, a family would go to the orchard, pick apples and be charged accordingly. Nope. Not there. Every adult in your party has to have a bag. EVERY ADULT. The cost of the bag? $10. If you have children between the ages of 4-12, they must each have their own smaller bag. EVERY CHILD 4-12. The cost of their bags? $7. So a family of 4 would have to pay $34 and would be required to take home 4 bags of apples! Ridiculous!!! We didn't want to load the kids up and try to find another place, so we reluctantly paid for 3 adults. Never again. We will never return!!! Vermont next year. read more

The downside is having to pay for the growler but it's only $5 for the empty bottle and the ciders run about $8 for a small size. The cider donuts were good but I wish they were warm.
