Went in around 3:30 on a Friday and luckily the baker was in! My friend got me a cake and says the flavor was vanilla with buttercream since that was all she had to make that day before they closed. She made a beautiful cake all in 30-40 minutes! I like vanilla but wouldn't be my first choice. When I saw the cake I was impressed and loved the colors. When I tasted the cake.. I kid you not, it WAS THE MOST DELICIOUS vanilla cake I've ever had. There was some custard inside which was delicious! Mouth watering when I think about it. I wish this bakery was in close proximity to where I lived but then actually would be quite dangerous. We not only got cake but got some treats too, cream puff, eclairs, carrot cake and chocolate cupcake and ALL DELICIOUS! I couldn't stop eating the carrot cake. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Suffice to say I will come here every time I'm back in Lake George!

Now that we've got THAT out of the way, how come the ratings for it on Yelp are near one extreme or the other? That's a good question. I suggest you try it yourself since the odds seem to be in favor of a very satisfying experience. I can confirm that ours was very positive. We arrived about one hour before their 5PM closing on a Saturday. We did not expect there to be many baked goods left at that hour, but we had heard good things about the place and wanted to at least check it out as we passed through the village. The place is very attractive inside which explains why so many of the photos on Yelp are of the interior instead of the food. Not yet being aware of this fact, I too started taking photos of the inside almost immediately upon arrival. There was one worker still on duty and he was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the baked goods. We learned that they open at 7AM and the croissants sell out quickly. It doesn't seem like we'll every get to experience them. Among the pastries that were available, we chose a "cinnamon roll" that looked like no other I'm familiar with, a "snail" (which looked very much like the cinnamon roll with a coiled, spiral shape) with an almond filling, and a slice of a spinach and feta cheese quiche that we were informed had just come out of the oven. It must have been made for the next day's sale. All of this was taken home for enjoyment after dinner. All of it was delicious. The dough for the cinnamon roll and the snail was the same. I believe it is supposed to be similar to the dough used for a croissant. But it was not as flakey as I would expect a croissant to be or as buttery. This might be due to the construction of these two pastries. Being rolled into coils they don't have the opportunity to rise like a croissant. The quiche was light and flavorful. Hopefully, we may some day need to pass through at a much earlier hour.

Adding insult to injury was upcharging for ham that is a core ingredient of eggs Benedict. This was absurd given that already astounding prices they charge. Sides were potatoes which were okay, but it was also served with salad that I was suspect of given the current health issues with lettuce. My wife was equally disappointed with what was supposed to be a French omelette but turned out to be an overcooked, open face western omelette that was more like rubber than eggs. Her $9 blueberry smoothie was delicious though Service was slow with only two other tables occupied when we arrived, although our eventual server turned out to be quite pleasant. Coffee was never refilled and the bill for two people was just...well...arrogant. I guess this place really is French. The two stars are for the smoothie and our waiter. The rest is pretty forgettable.
