King Brothers Dairy is an amazing dairy farm. It's quaint and beautifully stocked and oh so darling. Come here to shop local products carried in the area both fresh and frozen. More importantly if you're an ice cream lover like myself you will go out of your way to come here often. Their house made ice cream flavors are very creative and quite original. They also change it up often so that there's always lots of variety. I especially like that they've got it posted in several places so you can stand aside while you decide. It won't be an easy decision as I am always torn between several flavors. Currently I am in love with their rich dark chocolate and wine ice cream alongside a scoop of pistachio. However on this particular trip I have fallen for their delicious Dubai chocolate pistachio ice cream alongside their dark cherry ice cream. This is the most darling farm shop we have seen in a while! We will definitely be back. Not only is their year round ice cream delicious, but they have local pies, meats and honeys - lots of other goodies too. We are excited to gift the Maple Cotton Candy to our son. Naturally sweet! How unique. Their decor and family friendly atmosphere won't disappointment. Take a visit out if you're interested in getting some hard or soft serve ice cream and learning a bit about the dairy farm from the ladies behind the counter! The ice cream here was fabulous, I legitimately couldn't make up my mind. I only popped in really quick to figure out what ice cream I wanted, because my husband was with the dog. But the inside of the store looked cute. If we didn't have an hour drive home I wish we could have taken some ice cream home with us. I got a hot fudge Sundae with All American cookie, my husband got a milkshake with blueberry cobbler, and my dog got a doggie sundae. Both us and our dog gobbled our ice cream really quickly. I heard about King Brothers Dairy and knew I had to go. It was worth the ~40 minute drive for ice cream! I got the flight: 4 types of ice cream for a little more than $9. It was all delicious! I can't remember the flavors, but it was two peanut butter kinds, one coffee (but not the plain coffee), and the "sure ain't vanilla" (or something). And wow! They were all great! My favorite was the pb one all the way to the right in my photo. My friend got a two scoops, one was a mint flavor and I can't remember the other. But she really enjoyed it! Neither of us finished all of ours. The shop is really cute inside. I got some stuff to take home (lemonade, a frozen pizza, and gummy worms). That was all good as well. The employees there were all super friendly and helpful. You can go and see the cows, which seems fun. Highly recommend King Brother Dairy, even if you have to drive a bit to get there! read more

On a recent trip to Winney's Farm for blueberries, I missed a turn and drove by King Brothers Dairy. Since I kept seeing photos of friends enjoying ice cream here, and recall including their Eggnog in a taste comparison I did five years ago, I decided it must be an omen for me to stop and check them out. I was surprised to see so many non-dairy things that they also sold. They have meats from Oscar's Smokehouse, cheesecakes from the Nun's of New Skete, pies from Smith's Orchard Bake Shop, sausage and salami from Vermont Salumi, and many other products from regional food producers. But of course, in addition to milk and creams, there is an outstanding selection of homemade ice creams. Along with the usual flavors you'll find some more unique blends of flavors and textures with names like Twixiland Delight, Good Karma'l, Candyland, County Fair, Sure Ain't Vanilla, Simply Sinful, Satisfaction, and many more. Over two dozen to choose from. The ice creams that I've tried so far are true to the flavors you expect, and the consistency is rich and creamy. A couple of the flavors I tried, Simply Sinful and Kettle Corn, were on the softer side. I don't know if this is normal for those flavors or the result of some other factor. The Simply Sinful was in the same freezer and next to the Blueberry Cobbler that I also purchased, yet the Blueberry Cobbler was much harder frozen. I can give everything from here a star. The ice cream is out of this world. I picked up the sprinkled Oreo sandwiches which were awesome on another level. I've tasted many of the flavors of ice cream and love the Cookie Monster. The milk especially the chocolate milk is to die for. All of which I give 5 stars. On this trip I took home a ready made cheesecake family size which wasn't one of our favorites, it left a slight after taste. I'd give that 3 stars over all. However if your in the area and want some of the freshest milk products you need to stop by and indulge yourself some of the finest dairy products in New York. read more

My mom told me that while she was growing up in the Schuylerville area, she remembered that several farming families, rather than compete against each other, pooled their dairy resources. The result was Schuyler Farms Dairy Bar, which was successful for several decades. I was able to have ice cream there several times in the 50s and 60s before it closed (it's now occupied by Joy Wok). Fast forward to a few days before I wrote this review, and saw the others for Kings Brothers Dairy. I asked my mom if she recalled the names of the farms which combined to create Schuyler Farms. She first said, "I think one of them was King," and I said she could stop there. My hunch is that these are the grandkids of the Kings that helped create Schuyler Farms, which left me eager to visit, so of course I made that happen. The ice cream was a lot like I remember... not my all-time favorite ice cream, but on the podium. They had a lot more flavors than I expected. $3.99 for a small dish/cone seems like a lot, but it's two generous scoops. And then there's the market, including their own meat and dairy products, their own eggnog, and other items. Bonus points for carrying Cabot cheeses. Additional bonus points for Harney & Sons Teas. The whole ice cream bar/market is a very large and welcoming space. I may have to adjust my routes to various places to drive by here more often. read more

Uh-oh. Ice cream. Really good ice cream. Really good ice cream about 10 minutes away from my front door. This could be dangerous. I've known about King Dairy for many years now but didn't realize just how close to home they are for me. They used to sell milk from a small shed on their property - along with excellent distribution around the Cap Region area. But just under 2 months ago, they constructed a brand new, spacious building to re-brand themselves as an ice-cream destination. But wait - there's more. Need some groceries or snacks? Local eggs, milk (obviously), cheese, yogurt and other stuff...including quick take out items like pizza from Village Tavern in Schaghticoke (which the locals absolutely rave about) candy, chip dips, gift items...and even dog treats!! But let's get back to the ice cream. So many flavors to choose from. I decided on a cone of the most chocolatey concoction that they had: chocolate ice cream with brownie pieces and chocolate fudge...simply delicious. I tasted the coffee (really good but not as creamy as my chocolate) and the kettle corn (not my cup of tea; I decided that I'm not a popcorn-flavoring kinda girl...I just like my popcorn as....actual popcorn). 5 stars after my first visit - may change after trying more flavors. Cute dairy shop - good chocolate milk, egg nog and ice cream, among other stuff. They have oscars meat, Cabot cheese and other good grocery items. For ice cream, we tried two flavors, really enjoyed one and are indifferent about the other. Cookie Monster is delicious - don't let the color deter you. Perfectly creamy and soft texture, good chunks of cookie dough and Oreo cookies. The other we tried (I forget the name - salted caramel with pralines) was ok - the caramel is a bit too runny I think for the flavor and the nuts don't do all that much for me. I was a regular customer and purchased their whole milk every week but after having to throw out four bottles that went bad 11 days before the expiration date recently, along with the awful customer service, have had enough. I contacted them to let them know I am a big fan of their products and that the milk I was purchasing was going bad well before it should. Their "Home Delivery and Wholesale Rep", Crystal wrote me back and told me the following... "You should first reach out to the market I am purchasing it from and see what the coolers temps are and where they are getting our products from. We have distributors that deliver to local places and I want to make sure that from the time our drivers deliver to the distributors to their customers the products are being handled correctly." Really? I should reach out? I would think it would be her job to reach out to the store as the Whole Sale Rep and try to find out what is going on not me. I then wrote her back after having to throw out two more bottles this past weekend; one of which was brand new. I took the time to send a photo and an email and she didn't bother to respond. Needless to say I would expect better customer service when a loyal customer is taking the time not only let them know I enjoy their products, but also let them know there are issues with it going sour well before it should. Not only am I wasting my money but my time writing them and getting no response. I am now purchasing Ronnybrook Farm which is much better quality and I have never had any issues with it spoiling well before it should. read more

I keep finding myself day dreaming of the ice cream at this place. There are no real reasons to drive up to this place. It's a beautiful drive and the dairy is great but the ice cream is so far above any ice cream that you will ever taste, that I would drive through NYC on the subway to get to it. Lucky for all of us, one doesn't need to brave the subway in order to go to King Brothers dairy. You just have to have an extra couple of hours, if you're in the capital region, to drive over. How have I not reviewed Kings yet? I dream of it. I live downstate and work in Saratoga for the summer and I cannot get there fast enough upon arrival. What a delightful find- and closer than you think! Saratoga is a great destination for lots of reasons, however, there are a few things it is missing. Until now, we were really missing a quality ice cream parlor! King Dairy is it! All homemade ice cream, lots of creative and yummy flavors and fair prices are all here. It is a beautiful, clean facility that also sells their fresh milk and local goods and has a picture window that lets customers watch the ice cream making operation. Pleasant and so yummy, easy to get to and ample parking. King Dairy uses all of their own milk to make these great homemade treats! I can't emphasize what a nice surprise it was to find King Dairy! We enjoyed "this ain't vanilla" (chocolate ice cream with brownie and fudge chunks) for our chocolate lover, "good karma'l" (vanilla ice cream with heath bar and a caramel swirl), "Pandora's delight" (dark chocolate ice cream with peanut butter) and, forgive me, another yummy flavor that was black raspberry ice cream with a fudge swirl. We picked out a flavor that involved maple bourbon and candied bacon for grandpa and a creamy lemon option for grama! We also eyed the GIANT cookie ice cream sandwiches like they served at the Cornell dairy and ice cream pies. They also have soft serve. I really wish this business the best- theyve earned it! I heard the ice cream was great here so I decided to try it while in the area. The buildings were impeccably kept and the inside was very cute. However, the smells were another story. I almost didn't go in. The smell of manure hits you as soon as you get out of the car. Okay I understand it IS a working dairy farm so that wasn't the issue. Inside there was this "other" smell.....just stomach churning. I can't put my finger on what that smell was. I got my ice cream and ran outside to the safety of my car to eat it. The ice cream was good, but that smell would drive anyone away. I know they process other things there. Maybe bacteria for a yogurt culture? This is the creamiest ice cream I have ever tasted. The cows live within feet of the shop so it is certainly some of the freshest ice cream available. The shop is really clean and has a big play ice cream truck and stand for the kids to play. There is also a nice selection of local items for sale and they accept credit cards. We were fortunate to meet the owner and his son and they are good people doing great things with responsible farming practices and a high quality product. Highly recommend. read more
