Had a very good roast mutton sandwich on fry bread with lettuce, tomato, green onion and chili slice. The mutton strips were cooked on a grill. The fry bread was freshly made. Excellent flavors. The mutton was not as tender as others I have had but all good. There are no tables or chairs so it is tailgate time. Visited by many locals. You need pay correct cash. Will stop by again when in the area.

It was lunch time on Thursday, and we are in Chinle, Arizona. So my brother in law ask me, 'what…read moreare you up for lunch?, so I answered, 'let go to the Burrito Lady'. So we took a drive to the road that takes you to the Chinle Hospital. Just as you turn at the light, just to your right is a small food truck like place where the Burrito Lady has her business. We walk up to the trailer, looked at the menu that sits right next to where you order. I saw the Roasted Mutton Sandwich, so we both ordered it. She asked us if we wanted it on a tortilla and fry bread, so we both said fry bread, and ordered our drink as well. The Roasted Mutton Sandwich is comes folded like a taco on Indian fry bread, stuffed with the Roasted Mutton, long slices of green chili, green onion, and tomato. What made this sandwich taste so good is the flavor of the Roasted Mutton, and of course the Indian fry bread. For those of you that have never had Mutton, you have to understand that it is fully cooked, and is an acquired taste. I first had Mutton in Tuba City at their daily swap meet at noon. It was grilled and was filled with similar like this one in Chinle. The way they cook it makes it real tasty. This is my story on my special lunch in Chinle. Hope some day you have an eating experience like mine.

This is a combo restraint that is the both the Junction and Pizza Hut combined. We were promptly seated and our orders were taken. They did offer and provide a side of fries to make this right. The sheepherder was a good beef sandwich but the fry bread was dripping oil. As a note we were some of the last customers before closing and I think they had started shutting down the kitchen before we arrived. We were thankful that they were open and we got served. If we were to pass through the area again we would give it another try .

I am speaking just about Mexican food and breakfast food, other dishes I have not tried but with due time I will since I live in the area. I love the spice level of the green chile. So, as we drove across the country in our RV to try and mitigate Covid occurrences, I knew I had to stop. Knowing nothing about Gallup, I turned to Yelp to help me find handheld breakfast burritos along our path. La Carreta was the winner. And now we are as well! I hate that yelp reviews now include details surrounding Covid practices, but I will say La Carreta is one of the most prepared restaurant I have visited since lock down. I'm not sure if it's NM policy or just the restaurant themselves, but I was impressed. Immediately upon entering, I was prompted to sign in with my name, phone number or email, date and time of visit and if I had any symptoms. I was a little disappointed to see they had only one pen to sign. But, as soon as I turned to follow the path marked on the floor, I saw a large display with hand sanitizer! The counter had the usual plexiglass barrier and all employees I saw were wearing masks. Kudos to La Carreta on staying safe. Now, on to the burritos. Wow! Size to $ ratio already had me impressed. My wife was afraid the burritos might be small, based on the prices, but you can see from my pics, they are generously sized. I ordered a bacon egg burrito, christmas, hash browns, and cheese. My first few bites were a little underwhelming, but as I got deeper into the burrito (and the chile really), the flavors were so good. Plenty of salty bacon, complimented by mild, but pleasant heat from the chile, gooey melted cheese, balanced and filled out by the hash browns. Overall, La Carreta scratched the itch I've had since leaving NM breakfast burritos behind. I'd definitely recommend to any one passing through Gallup.

I have had a number of Navajo tacos in my lifetime and I would have to say that this was one of the best.
