    Breakfast Burrito and hashbrowns

This breakfast burrito was beyond exp citations. The portions are very large. I had my burrito without meat and still could not finish the plate. The service is always excellent

We were craving something other than Southwestern food and stopped by this place for Chinese. We got the sweet and sour chicken and shrimp fried rice, and both were excellent! Way better than we expected, especially given how big the menu is. The food was just as good as what you'd get at a top-rated American Chinese spot. The place looks newly renovated--really clean and spacious. The service was great too.

    Lamb stew and Navajo taco

Stopped here enroute to 4 corners. This place is definitely a local's place. Interestingly, they have an AYCE chinese buffet (which all the locals were going for), as well as Navajo and American fare. My friend and I had the Navajo taco and the lamb stew. Both were excellent: not overly salted, made with fresh ingredients, and definitely in-house made. Recommend one of the best picks in a very remote location with limited options.

Our perfectly hot, airy, flaky and delectable fry bread. The best ever!

On our way from Durango to Canyon De Chelly, my wife and I wisely stopped for lunch at Nataani Nez. Located in the northeast corner of the Navajo Nation, we wanted to have our first-ever Navajo meal. While the restaurant sign says "Breakfast, Lunch Buffet, and Dinner," we were also able to order from the menu at lunch. We found the restaurant staff welcoming and pleasant, and the walls displayed many pieces of art from the area including some beautiful photographs that would have been worthy of museum display. We ordered from the Navajo category on the menu, choosing to share the ample lamb stew with fry bread. The stew was perfect with tender lamb and vegetables in a deliciously seasoned broth. The fry bread came picture-perfect, overlapping the edges of a large plate! Other menu categories included American, Mexican, and Chinese--something good for everybody! Meralda was our server and she was just outstanding! She answered our various questions about the Navajo dishes with care and interesting detail. Our food arrived promptly, piping hot, and it was delicious from start to finish. Meralda was attentive throughout our meal, and answered several questions we asked about the area. Nataani Nez is popular with locals as well as travelers. We recommend it highly and plan to return on future travels to the area. In a nutshell, it's a winner!

    Plate full of variety-tasty!

Really friendly staff and the buffet changes every day - we came in driving thru and this was recommended by a local. Monday featured Mexican and Chinese! I'd come back.

i've been here for brunch on a sunday and didn't eat their breakfast. i ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it was a 3.5 star meal. if you are a buffet go'er then know that the buffet is not available for breakfast. i've been to the restaurant for lunch twice and ate at the buffet. i have not ordered any food from the menu. the buffet offers a different cuisine everyday. the quality of food is a 3 star. i keep gong back for more food only to get my monies worth. if lunch is busy be prepared for bad or slow service. once i got tired of waiting for the server so i got out of my seat and got my own soda refill. like is said nataani nez restaurant is just okay.

Lunch buffet; pan fried noodles, egg roll, fried rice and stir fried veggies.

Best Chinese food I've ever had in NM! Looked a little questionable from the outside, but the Sichuanese beef was great.

Both ladies were excellent, fun and very very welcoming. Nicest people we have met thus far driving from Nevada. Always smiling, not hanging over you while you eat, and extremely polite. The food was absolutely incredible. Over a week traveling with numerous stops, La Casita De Cortez absolutely comes out on top easily. Homemade food with passion behind it and generous portions. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted incredible. The drinks were also impeccable with a decent variety of margaritas and others. Stop here if you can and enjoy every second of it! You won't regret it!

They have a decent amount of tables inside. The vibes are so fun with good music and decor. The had Diet Coke and the brew was great!! For my meal, I got the shredded chicken flautas, and they were SO good. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. I also really liked their rice. My SIL got the carne asada, and that felt like the star of the show to me. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. My husband got the steak, and it came out a little underdone. They took it back and cooked it a little longer for him when he asked. If you're wanting red meat, I'd say to go for the carne asada instead of the steak. Overall, super great experience especially for a road trip meal. I'd go back for sure!!!

Doña María has earned a permanent spot on our list of must-visit restaurants every time we're back in town. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Karen took incredible care of us and our family. Even though we were a fairly needy group, she was consistently professional, friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Her positive attitude made an already great dining experience even more memorable. I can't say enough how amazing she was! From the breakfast burritos to dinner, everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and authentic. The homemade tortillas were absolutely outstanding and complemented every meal perfectly. The portions were generous, and every dish reminded us why we love coming back home. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. It's the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy a great meal, and feel right at home. After hiking and driving through Mesa Verde, we were starving and started looking for food…read more Gustavo's had by far the most interesting menu out of all the Mexican places in Cortez and we decided to stop by for an early dinner. Chips & Salsa (Complimentary) - The chips are served warm with a small tinge of oil sheen. Very even in thickness. I think these are commercial chips, but the menu states they have homemade corn tortillas, so maybe they fry the leftover ones into chips? The salsa is nice and refreshing with just a hint of spice. A good start to the meal. Horchata ($5) - This drink actually isn't on the menu, but I noticed it available in Gustavo's online ordering system. I asked the waiter if they had horchata and they did! I happened to be sitting at the table right next to the fridge and I saw the waiter remove an unlabeled plastic jug filled with white liquid and fill up my cup. I guess this must be home made? Very nice rice flavor, sprinkled with cinnamon and spices on top. A lot of horchata I've had in the past have been almost cloyingly sweet, this one is not too sweet in comparison. It has a smooth texture that isn't too gritty and is generally delicious to drink. (5/5) Corn Salad ($8) - This is a very simple salad with cilantro, black beans, red bell peppers, and corn in a very, very tangy and vinegary dressing. They top it with a slice of red onion and some queso fresco (per the menu, although I thought it was dry and aged like a cojita, but I'm not expert) crumbles. There is a bit of liquid at the bottom, but it's easy to drain. The server gave us four griddled tortillas to make rolled tacos if desired. I found this to be a little too acidic for my tastes. (3/5) Two Chile Relleno Crispy ($17) - This dish comes with small ramekins of rice and beans, both perfectly seasoned. The rice is cooked until very tender and fluffy with diced carrots, tomato, peas, and corn. The beans are excellent - the best I've eaten in recent memory. They're super light like they've been whipped and have the fragrance of lard. The beans are perfectly seasoned, and while light in texture, are very heavy on the stomach. I swear, it must be like half lard.... The chile rellenos are very interesting. Instead of being battered and fried, these large maybe 6inch long green peppers (hatch, perhaps?) are wrapped in a dough square and deep fried. The square almost reminds me of an egg roll wrapper, except developing plenty of micro bubbles while being fried, lending a crisp when dry. The rellenos are stuffed with plenty of cheese, very stretchy, mild tasting, milky, and doused in a green chile sauce, which softens the wrapper. They pile lettuce and tomato on top, followed by a drizzle of sour cream, guacamole sauce and crumbled queso fresco. Overall the taste profile is very tangy and a bit spicy. Additional green salsa is provided in a squeeze bottle on the side, although I didn't use it as the dish is flavorful enough. (4/5) Gustavo's Mexican Restaurant & Bar was a very good choice for our dinner. We both left happy and full even though we didn't even order two entrees! I would revisit if I'm ever in Cortez again. Bathrooms - Two rooms in the back.
