Checked this location out after Yelping during our Canyon to Chelly visit. Excellent $2 homemade enchiladas today!

Since we had a long day ahead of us on the road, we needed to grab breakfast and didn't want to waste time finding a place around, which is few and far between! Therefore, here we were at Garcia's. The menu featured a handful of basic breakfast items. My partner had an omelette, which came with hash browns while I had the blue corn pancakes. When our plates arrived, I had no idea the pancakes were gigantic and there was a stack of three of them! I barely made a dent in them, so we took the pancakes for leftovers, which we snacked on for our road trip! For the pancakes, they provided packaged syrup, which I wasn't a fan of. But I actually liked the pancakes on their own, as I could really taste the blue corn. Overall, this is a fine restaurant for breakfast. It's here to primarily serve the hotel guests and perhaps those visiting Canyon De Chelly. But there's nothing special here. It's your standard fare.

I am speaking just about Mexican food and breakfast food, other dishes I have not tried but with due time I will since I live in the area. I love the spice level of the green chile. I will continue to eat there. The timing of the service is on the slower side but I am okay with that since my food is hot, temperature wise. This isn't a fast food joint so don't expect that. This has been my experience so far, only have been there about 5x. The Crownpoint, NM location was substandard in comparison to this Navajo location. I will not eat again at the other location.

Saw a guy eating a sopapilla outside said it was good and there were several people outside waiting so we were like ok it's gonna be good. Ordered the Sopapilia covered in red sauce because it was a popular choice. Sadly, I was disappointed. I think it would have been good by itself no sauce. Just a sopapilla by itself. In sauce was too much. The red sauce did not taste homemade. If it is I'm sorry but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The kids drummettes were fried and tasty. Other than that it was just another diner. We did meet others who said they frequent but knowing true Mexican food, it's a no go for me. Service was ok. Ambiance Diner feel. We met a guy who said there was a cafe town the road that he preferred I don't remember the name but at least I know I'm not the only one who did not enjoy it. He was also from Cali so there you go. Sorry to disappoint. Good luck finding good eats. SYOY

We get up and leave, telling our waitress to get it together. This was ridiculous, we made our back in into town and went to Gordo's Restaurant and got service, and had better prices. Since Virgies Restaurant was closer to the house, I thought I would give them another try, NEVER AGAIN!!!!.

So, as we drove across the country in our RV to try and mitigate Covid occurrences, I knew I had to stop. Knowing nothing about Gallup, I turned to Yelp to help me find handheld breakfast burritos along our path. La Carreta was the winner. And now we are as well! I hate that yelp reviews now include details surrounding Covid practices, but I will say La Carreta is one of the most prepared restaurant I have visited since lock down. I'm not sure if it's NM policy or just the restaurant themselves, but I was impressed. Immediately upon entering, I was prompted to sign in with my name, phone number or email, date and time of visit and if I had any symptoms. I was a little disappointed to see they had only one pen to sign. But, as soon as I turned to follow the path marked on the floor, I saw a large display with hand sanitizer! The counter had the usual plexiglass barrier and all employees I saw were wearing masks. Kudos to La Carreta on staying safe. Now, on to the burritos. Wow! Size to $ ratio already had me impressed. My wife was afraid the burritos might be small, based on the prices, but you can see from my pics, they are generously sized. I ordered a bacon egg burrito, christmas, hash browns, and cheese. My first few bites were a little underwhelming, but as I got deeper into the burrito (and the chile really), the flavors were so good. Plenty of salty bacon, complimented by mild, but pleasant heat from the chile, gooey melted cheese, balanced and filled out by the hash browns. Overall, La Carreta scratched the itch I've had since leaving NM breakfast burritos behind. I'd definitely recommend to any one passing through Gallup.

I asked the waitress about the salsa and she brought another small plastic cup of the same thing, but there were a couple of chile seeds in it. She explained that their salsa was made in a blender and that's why it is watery. The food took a long time to get to us and it lacked flavor. Not many restaurants are open on Sundays in Gallup. So usually a restaurant in Gallup, on Sundays is packed. This one was open, but only had a few customers.

Once you go up the steps to the wooden porch you will enter a small café that has been open for only about 6 months and primarily serving the locals and the occasional tourist such as my wife and me. We were just looking for a light lunch, so we split one of their Navajo Tacos with a side of fries. I have had a number of Navajo tacos in my lifetime and I would have to say that this was one of the best. Another item that I saw on their list that looked like it would be really good was a lamb sandwich with fry bread. Our waitress was very attentive and fun to talk to about the restaurant and local activities. The manager stopped by and also very pleasant to talk to. Not a Fancy dining location, but very clean dining area and kitchen. If you are ever out and around the Hubbel Trading Post or just traveling through this little town, this is a must stop location for a meal.
