Great little restaurant in the Holiday Inn. We see here for breakfast. Coffee was strong with a nice variety of creamers/sugars/etc. the kids enjoyed their waffles w/ fruit, scrambled eggs, etc. The blue corn pancakes are a must. The build your own omelette was great for the price! The restaurant was very clean, but we were seated under a really loud fan. We ate at Garcia's for breakfast as it was located in the Holiday Inn Canyon De Chelly, the hotel we were staying in. Since we had a long day ahead of us on the road, we needed to grab breakfast and didn't want to waste time finding a place around, which is few and far between! Therefore, here we were at Garcia's. The menu featured a handful of basic breakfast items. My partner had an omelette, which came with hash browns while I had the blue corn pancakes. When our plates arrived, I had no idea the pancakes were gigantic and there was a stack of three of them! I barely made a dent in them, so we took the pancakes for leftovers, which we snacked on for our road trip! For the pancakes, they provided packaged syrup, which I wasn't a fan of. But I actually liked the pancakes on their own, as I could really taste the blue corn. Overall, this is a fine restaurant for breakfast. It's here to primarily serve the hotel guests and perhaps those visiting Canyon De Chelly. But there's nothing special here. It's your standard fare. read more

I had been here once before to Garcia's. The restaurant is part of the Holiday Inn Hotel in Chinle, Arizona. We had planned on having dinner here on Thursday before heading back to Phoenix the next day. Our server came over as soon as we were seated. I am sorry for not remembering his name. For he was excellent at providing good service. I ordered my drink and both of us decided to go with the sirloin steak dinner. I was brought my sirloin steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, and rice pilaf. The steak was cooked perfectly to medium with a little bit of pink, just like I like my steak cooked. The restaurant is kept very clean, the service is great, and our server was on top of things. I really recommend this place to you, if you are ever in Chinle. read more

Probably one of the best restaurants in Chinle, adjacent to Holiday Inn. Been here many times and never dissapointed. Had the sirlion steak salad. The sirloin was perfectly cooked. This was the worst meal I have had for $17. The chicken soup was of the cheapest kind straight out a can. Completely shameful to say the least. The Greek salad was a total abomination to humanity. It had romaine lettuce, olives, feta cheese and really mediocre bottled dressing. This was not a Greek salad. This is a garden salad with some olives on top. Friends who had other dishes said most items were from cans and tasted like it sat around for a day. Overpriced and truly disgusting. I had the deepest regrets for having dined at this god forsaken place. I felt like Santa on Christmas day. Visited Mr and Mrs Nut, got stuck in the chimney and had to be pulled out by the Nuts, Moral of the story is there are not many options here in Chinle. They got me by the proverbial balls. I think 3-4 stars is fair for this place--the waitress/hostess is very sweet and helpful, the food was surprisingly good and it was warm in the restaurant--which I appreciated since it was so nippy outside. Just fyi, when the menu says "Fish and Chips" that comes with real chips--not french fries like I assumed :) The chips were amazing though--freshly peeled and fried off of a potato. It is a little on the pricey side but you do get a lot of food. The blue cornmeal pancakes were also good but a little burnt. If this place was in Phoenix, I wouldn't eat here...but in Chinle, sure, bring it on :) read more

We were staying in a motel nearby and checked out local options for dinner. There were not a lot; this place seemed somewhat split as to likes / dislikes, but they had a decent menu so we went with them. They are located on the road off 191 that leads through the park. It is adjacent to the Holiday Inn. Parking is not an issue. We were seated promptly and the staff was attentive. The menu, though not extensive, at least had a modest variety of choices. I got a pasta dish which was decent. No one in our party had a bad meal. Given the alternatives in the greater Chinle area, I'm not sure how much better you can do than dining here. Maybe their service and food varies day today; we only ate there once. But based on our experience, I'd consider returning were I back in Chinle in the future. read more

Dinner last night was great. The hostess and our server were both very friendly and expedient. My daughter's hamburger from the kids menu was large and delicious. I had an awesome steak salad and my husband had fajitas. It was too much food for us to finish. Breakfast this morning was just as great. Plenty of food and my coffee cup was never empty. My family visited the Southwest U.S. in December 2005, and we stayed at the Holiday Inn in Chinle for a night. It was very late when we checked in, and Garcia's was located right next to the hotel, so we decided to eat here to save time. Big mistake. To start off, everything was quite expensive. This normally wouldn't be a problem as food in tourist-oriented areas generally isn't cheap to begin with, but the food here was just terrible; my parents and I each ordered different items, and all of the them were very dry and barely had any taste. None of us were able to finish what we ordered. This was by far the worst part of our trip. I know a single dining experience isn't enough to judge a restaurant by, but I sure as hell don't feel like coming back here a second time. -- TL;DR version -- Highs: You aren't forced to eat here; convenient location Lows: High prices; food was bland and dry Bottom line: Do not eat here. Y'know, the reviews here make it sound like the Spider Woman has climbed out of her rock in Canyon de Chelly in order to punish you for daring to eat in Chinle, AZ. And I only had breakfast here, so maybe something wicked this lunch comes. But I was rather surprised. First off, the place is a lot nicer looking than I expected. I was thinking it'd be a sun-beaten cracked-tile Super 8-lobby kind of atmosphere. Instead it's nicely arranged and carpeted and with a feel of a small restaurant trying to make it in a strip-mall setting. I mean, it's a hotel restaurant, but I never thought to myself, "So it's come to this." You can order from the breakfast buffet, which appeared to be the typical hotel breakfast offerings for around $10, or you could order off the menu. I chose the latter and picked a Southwestern specialty, blue corn pancakes. They came out quick and tasted almost like the ones I had in a lauded Santa Fe restaurant a few days later. Besides the color, the texture is a bit flakier and fragile than typical, and the maize-laden taste was a great novelty. That and coffee and tip for $12, if I recall. So I can't say for lunch or dinner, but you have nothing to fear from breakfast. It's just...breakfast. read more

Dissapointed. I was visiting Canyon de Chelly for our honeymoon road trip and we were staying in the Holiday Inn. It seamed reasonable to eat here but I should have read the reviews first! I ordered the Navajo taco, I had one before I loved it but this was the complete opposite and unappetizing! It was the fried bread with what seemed like canned chili and the lettuce and cheese it was expensive for what was served! I gave up on eating it. The service was slow and we only saw our waitress 2 at the beginning and end no refill on drinks. I ordered sweet potato fries which were better than the taco and a vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup which I could have made myself. It was simply a waste of money and time. My family and I joked around in the morning that the Burger King breakfast we had was better than this place! I will recommend the holiday inn but not this restaurant! read more

We ate dinner here while staying at the Holiday Inn in Chinle. We got a table and were served quickly despite the large group from a bus tour. We had nachos and a hamburger, my husband had apple pie. Embarrassingly touristy. All the portions were large and the servers so friendly. We plan to have lunch here before leaving. You have to question the many negative reviews of the restaurants here. We rely on these reviews and found them to be deceptive. We enjoyed a very nice meal here. Stayed at the hotel and thought the staff pleasant and attentive. Other reviewers are right in that there is not a lot to choose from in town, and we were a bit hesitant because of that. We were very pleasantly surprised however. We shared the Navaho fry bread which my 3 teenage boys loved, and ordered the Ribeye, trout, spaghetti and meatballs, and 2 burgers. The steak was medium rather than medium rare, so one son used a little A1, but said it tasted great, the trout was flaky without being dry, burgers were big, guys liked the seasoned fries. We had 3 deserts; chocolate cake, cheesecake and the apple pie a la mode ... All delicious. My boys can be picky eaters but nothing was left. I will say that we did ask what was made fresh, what was pre made, canned etc and our waitress told us. So I give it 4* based on what we had, not what we avoided. read more

The mashed potatoes are instant, the meat is tough, and the veggies are steamed and bland. However, if you do end up in Chinle, I'd suggest coming here. I was a little surprised at the poor ratings, so I had to voice my own. I had the Canyon salad, and it was delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly as I had requested, incredibly tender even though it's well-medium done. Creamy poppy tasting dressing was spot on served with a crunchy and fresh romaine and iceberg salad. There was a plentiful serving of meat, and so much that I had enough for lunch the next day. My dining mates had also ordered a burger with sweet potato yam fries and a Navajo taco/fry bread, and although I didn't try it, the fried aroma that passed through was all I needed to experience. We stayed at this hotel last year, and this place was amazing, but this time the menu, food quality and service was diminished, horrible and mediocre respectively. i felt there were few healthy options on the menu and the service was slow. the salad bar vegetables tasted like the neighboring salad bar fruits. we were in chinle for two days and two dinners. we didn't want to go back to this place for dinner a second time. that was kind of tough because there are only 2 restaurants in chinle. the junction restaurant is the other option (aside from subway and pizza hut) and it's no super star, but i prefer it over garcia's because it has a larger menu. so the lesson here is, don't expect to eat well in chinle. read more

OMG! What a waste!!! First of all, this place only gets a star because that is the minimum Yelp allows. This place owes me stars!!! My son and I went to this restaurant ONLY because we stayed at the Holiday Inn where the restaurant is located. Despite all of the negative reviews, we decided to give it a shot since we were being picked up early for a Jeep tour. Well, were SO wrong to do this!!! First of all, it took awhile for anyone to notice we were even standing at the front desk waiting to be seated. Once we were seated, we were given menus and ignored for 20 minutes. Finally, someone came over to take our order. We, we waited, and waited, and waited for our order to arrive. Finally, about 30 minutes later, our order arrived. What a disappointment!!! My son ordered the Cinnamon French Toast, and it truly looked and tasted like an Eggo frozen breakfast! I ordered 2 eggs with hash browns. The eggs were the most bland, over cooked eggs I have ever had! No taste at all! And the hash browns were like frozen hash browns. No taste, just like the eggs. Trust me, don't waste your time eating here, you will be so sorry you did. It's true that there aren't many choices in Chinle, but they do have a Burger King, and believe me, Burger King food tastes wonderful compared to Garcia's!!! read more

Navajo sandwich is good! Share it with someone or take half home, last time we ordered to be shared it was served on two separate plates. Also, sweet potato fries are tasty. The only reason to eat here is because it's attached the hotel you're staying in AND there is nothing that is better in Chinle (Church's Chicken is one of the other options). The food just very okay and very expensive for what you get. Also, there is no beer nor wine served. Odd. read more

This is the worst restaurant in terms of service and food quality. I ordered the pork chops and it was bland, no seasoning at all. It was also rare and the meat tasted like it has been frozen for a long time. I asked that they cook it more and add more seasons. The price fit the food's quality very well. My only disapointement was with desert: the navajo's pie with cinammon , apple and ice cream is not very god. But the chocolate lava cake is very god! I recommand this restaurant for families. read more
