My bartender told me he'd been working on something, featuring punt e mes, and I was totally down for trying something new. I took one sip and knew it was a miss. I wanted to politely send it back. But he just kept avoiding me. I stared right at him and he was impervious. Finally, he saw me, and I told him what was wrong. I asked for a sip of punt e mes so I could understand the failed cocktail better, and asked him for a more traditional drink: a mai tai. The mai tai was sweet and unbalanced. Giving up, I asked for a check. He charged me for the drink I didn't finish, a shot of punt e mes (!) and the mai tai. Unreal. Never again!
Garage is a cool craft cocktail bar located in an actual parking garage. It's considered a speakeasy, however they do have signage outside of the bar which breaks the rules of a true speakeasy. It's not hard to spot as long as you're in the correct parking garage. My date and I stopped in for a quick drink. It was my first time visiting. We didn't have reservations, but it was early enough that we were able to grab a seat at the bar. They do take reservations on Open Table if you prefer. There's limited bar seating as well as tables and booths. The vibe was very intimate and sultry with dim lighting. The bartenders were nice. I went with a Pimm's Cup which is a favorite of mine. Garage's Pimm's Cup was actually very good, but it didn't quite compare with the Pimm's Cup at Anvil in Houston (IYKYK). We didn't order any food, but they have pizza (including gluten free options) as well as salads. The next time I visit, I'll be sure to try a slice.
One of my favorite date night spots in Austin. The ambiance is lovely, and the drinks are fantastic. They recently added pizza to the menu, and it was good!! We tried one of everything, and I think the kink and the hog pen were our group's favorites. They have reservations up to 6, but I'd recommend that only for drinks!
This bar is crazy Its in a parking garage which the outside look is just ok Open the door and its a speakeasy vibe very dark romantic Romantic in a parking garage who knew Service exceptional drinks were delicious Our bartender was fun and easy to talk to Overall fantastic place
100% worth the buzz around this place! The interior is beautiful, dimly lit and very intimate, great space for chatting. The hostess and bartenders were super friendly and helpful! Drink selection was a bit small but carefully curated. All the drinks we had were strong and each one was really unique. Pizza was also phenomenal!
Stopped in to have a drink after dinner in the area! Very small but cute spot, on a busy day reservations are highly recommended! Unique cocktails made fresh to order. Staff was kind and Sarah was really handling business behind the bar and serving tables too. very romantic lighting , great place to bring a date or friend who had never been before or just to handle out for a good time in general. they offer food as well but since we just ate we didn't not get a menu.
Overall: 4.5/5 [dine in] We were waiting to get into Tiger Lilly when they open at 5 PM but found out they've permanently converted to an event space, so our friends introduced us to Garage instead. Definitely did not expect to find a speakeasy in a garage, but it was a vibe. We were lucky and got seated right away. Very dark and moody lighting inside. They don't have happy hour and the drinks are on the pricier side. Portions are a bit smaller too, but they are craft cocktails. We got Lucas Fiasco ($19 each) and tried my friend's Indian Paintbrush which were both great. Service is slower, so expect to be there for a while unless you can flag someone down.
Came upon this place on a whim. We were walking home from dinner and were looking for somewhere to have a night cap. Luckily, this was not far away and they took us, as walk-ins. It's well hidden, in an actual parking garage, although the music is a bit of a giveaway. I loved the industrial, low key vibe and it seems like a lot of other people did too, for a Wednesday night. The drinks were beautifully presented and the flavors were subtle.
Speakeasy but not really. It was not that hidden or secrecy. The drinks are on the expensive side for this area. We came in a group of 6 and were charged 25% gratitude, then another 3% for insurance fees.
One of my favorite bars in Austin! Tucked inside an actual parking garage, this dark and moody spot feels like a true hidden gem, though it can get pretty packed on weekend nights. I've enjoyed every cocktail I've tried here. The drinks are creative, meticulously prepared, and consistently well balanced--never too sweet or overly harsh. The atmosphere, presentation, and quality of the cocktails make it a memorable place to bring visitors. I always recommend adding Garage to an Austin bucket list, and I'm excited to return every time.
The Kink was one of the best pizzas Ive ever had! Bramble was delicious for an alcoholic drink. Service was really good, they came by the right amount. The vibes were excellent, tea light candles everywhere and it was a great place to yap.
Chef and owner Philip Speer was testing out his new offering of Sicilian pizza at the Garage bar, and my friend and I were lucky enough to be among his first testers. The pizza was so incredibly delicious, with a thick, fluffy crust. There were two options: a white pizza or tomato-based. He even made a special gluten-free crust for me to accommodate my diet. I had no idea it was gluten free until he told me. I will go back to the Garage when he formally launches the pizza as a regular offering. The atmosphere is very intimate, with candles on the tables.
We went on a Saturday night a few weeks ago, and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! We had to wait outside for about 5 minutes to be seated, and once we got in it was chill and not too crowded. The inside had a nice wood burning fire smell, probably to cover up the garage fumes. Our bartender was very sweet and didn't pressure us to order quickly. The drinks were tasty and made right in front of us. Such a fun vibe! It's almost on the order of a speakeasy, being tucked into the parking garage. Definitely a fun place where I'd take visitors in the future.

Hidden in a parking garage, this speakeasy was easily one of my new favorites! We were escorted to the bar and were told to order a drink until a table became available. I had reservations that we would be forgotten since it was a busy Saturday night, but within 15 minutes the host came back to usher us to a cozy table. The staff was engaging, attentive and authentic. The drinks were amazing--I highly recommend the Coachwhip! Sidenote: Garage over pretentious, lackluster Midnight Cowboy read more

We found out about this place on a blog and we had to go! Such a gem! Sophisticated, yet modern, upscale atmosphere. So unexpected for a parking garage. This should definitely be on your Austin bucket list! read more
Yes come here! Might be the best cocktails in the city and I have been everywhere now. The Saturn is amazing and super well balanced. What I really like is that this place has great speakeasy vibe but is also not pretentious with the open seating. Just follow the neon! read more

Such a cool atmosphere! It is small, intimate and dimly lit. I went with a friend around 5pm when it opened so we were able to grab a seat without a reservation but only for an hour. The drinks were fantastic. I got the jailbird and my friend got a penicillin, both were very tasty. read more

I ended a recent bar crawl outing with friends here and it was my first time, though I have had it on my "hitlist" for awhile. I really like concept bars such as this...I mean leave it to Austin to furnish a downtown parking garage with a bar you might find in LA. There is a weird sorta vibe here...like this is where the affluent hipsters, the disenfranchised mid-30 somethings, and the cool older crowd all intermingle. There's also a sort of "members only-secret handshake-do you know today's password" undertone as well. But, either way, this place is probably too cool for but a rare few and I felt like I had just snuck my way into something. When we got there just after midnight on a Saturday, it was very, very dark. They are going for ambiance and I get that, but it did take awhile for my eyes to adjust and I think I inadvertently felt some folks up on my way to the bar. Though the bar is pretty stellar and just the whole inside is very contempo-chic. The bartenders seem to know this because "what's colder than cold?"...the stare and 'tude from the other side of the bar top! That aside, this place was my favorite of the evening for the simple fact that they had a very hard to find bourbon I had been searching for on the menu. I am usually not one to drop $15 for a pour, but this one was totally worth it! (and no, I'm not telling what the bourbon is, that's between me and Garage)..this bar and I totally shared a moment. I only had the one drink, but it was perfection and I stayed chatting up some old folks who were way too cool for themselves, let alone me, while I waited for my friends to finish their drinks. I would like to come back and properly explore this enigma of a bar and make it my first stop instead of my last next time. read more

Happy hour is with it!! Only 4/5 as the drink choices aren't half price unlike other bars like the Roosevelt room down the road... Fun place to find.. look for the cocktails sign on the side of the parking garage! Friendly bar staff and lots of lovely cocktails including the winner in Austin last year.. Indian paintbrush!! read more

Vibes: 5 stars Cocktails: 3 stars Lighting: 1 star Ok this place is seriously cool. I love the concept of this upscale bar in an old school parking garage. The drinks were decent, but I did feel slighted when I ordered an old fashion and I saw them pour a pre-made (& super sweet) mixture into the glass and stir it around. Not what I would expect from a place of this caliber. I was *kind of* kidding about the lighting but it is very dark in there. I had to use a nearby candle to read the menu. Overall, it's a 4 star place and I would return because the vibes are awesome, but I'd make sure that my cocktail was truly "craft" for the high price point. read more
I've walked by Garage hundreds of times on my way to work and never even realized it was there! Went after work yesterday with two of my coworkers and had a great time. Very intimate bar and delicious drinks. Unfortunately they don't have a happy hour menu right now, which is understandable for a bar like this but would've been nice. Definitely will be back! read more
Boy was it hard to figure out how to get in here. We heard about this place from a bartender at Truluck's and decided to check it out. It took us about 5 minutes to find the entrance but once we got inside we were pleasantly surprised. The whole vibe of this place is really cool and intimate and would make a great date spot for after dinner cocktails. Since it was still early on a Saturday, not too many people were inside. We grabbed seats at the bar and perused the cocktail menu. Danielle ordered the Indian Paintbrush and I ordered the Voce Sabre? The question mark is intended since it was part of the cocktail name. I am not a gin or whiskey drinker so most of the specialty cocktails didn't appeal to me. Both of our drinks were garnished with rosemary and Danielle's also came with an edible flower. Danielle loved her Indian Paintbrush. I've never been a fan of rosemary so I probably should've gone for a different drink to begin with but I wanted to be cool and try one of their specialty cocktails. The Voce Sabre? contains barrel aged cachaca, lime grapefruit, and Becherovka. I like rum and I like caipirinhas so I figured I would enjoy it. Unfortunately it didn't taste that great to me. I partly blame this on the fact that I've never been a fancy cocktail drinker so I should've known better and the other part is I didn't know what Becherovka was so I probably didn't do my proper google research before ordering. I will probably skip the specialty cocktails next time and see if they can make a French 77 or something along those lines. read more
Yep, sometimes the effort you make uncovers a gem and Garage definitely falls into that category. On my short visit to ATX, I'm in the mood for cocktails and Garage hits my radar screen. A quick trot over to W. Colorado and I can't see it at all. But I do notice some people walking into the parking garage and headed towards a small neon sign. So I ask the attendant, is there a bar back there? Yes sir, there is! Head back to the neon sign and around a black curtain and you'll find the industrial entrance to a cool, enclave of cocktails. Inside there are back-lit couches, nice wallpaper and a bar that looks like marble but is lit up underneath. A very sexy, interesting looking space with Motown tunes popping our overhead. My kind of place. The short cocktail list of classics and house favorites are reasonably priced, $8 - $11 and the bartenders seem to be very experienced. Crown runs 25 to 45 and falls into the hip young professional genre. I get two cocktails and both are solid. This space used to be an office for the valets so it's got an interesting, industrial and hidden feel, love the concept. So next time you're passing that parking garage on W. Colorado, take a chance and check out Garage the bar. Fun, fun, fun.... read more

Came by here Saturday night because my husband loves to surprise me with cool and neat places. THis is by far the neatest place I've ever been to. EVER. I had: 1) an Old-Fashioned - awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2) some drink that had an absinthe rinse... name eludes me because it was quite long but it was either this or the Penicillin. so that one's next on my list my husband got : 1) the Girl with the Green Eyes 2) and Old-Fashioned = we both got one while it was still HH. So worth finding. Cant wait to go back. It will be my reward when I drop another 10 lbs. ok, ok... 8 read more
I came to garage on a Saturday night- and it was poppin. This was actually my third time here (each time being a Saturday) and the first time I was actually able to order something. After making a third attempt to visit, I dedicated to wait it out this time. While my Experience wasn't terrible- it wasn't worth the wait. The drinks were average, and to be honest there were other craft cocktail bars just around the corner with a more interesting menu. The service was also- just okay. Some servers kept ignoring me standing on my own until one of them finally came up took my order and brought water. Maybe I was too hyped for it, maybe I should have just stuck it out for a drink one of the other two times I visited. I wouldn't have yearned to visit and imagined what it might have been and who knows, the drinks would have been better during those visits. All In all, it was just and alright visit...that set me back $17 for one drink plus tip. read more
Probably one of my favorite bars in Austin. It's super low key, intimate, fantastic drinks, and great service. I went here based on Thrillist's article "best hidden bars in Austin". For one, it's not as hidden as I thought which was helpful considering it was my second time in Austin. As soon as you enter, the lights are dim, there are little tables dotted along the perimeter and a bar in the center. The music is low enough that you don't have to yell to talk to whomever you're with, but loud enough that you wouldn't disturb other bar patrons. It's quite an intimate little bar which I love considering most bars in Austin are loud and crowded. Granted I went here on a Tuesday night so I can't really say how packed this place can be on a Friday or Saturday. The drinks are pretty pricey, but so worth it. read more

What I'm comparing it against: upscale, intimate cocktail bars in medium-sized cities. Vibe: Beautiful. As others have reported--small, in a parking garage, dimly light, intimate, and you'll feel that you've entered a secret society. Music I think is played straight off of a hi-fi player...various types of jazz and avant-garde stuff from the 60s and 70s. Rivals any speakeasy bar setting in larger cities. No televisions, which is a good thing (televisions have their place in sports bars and neighborhood joints, but it would just screw up the vibe in places like this. Drinks: Excellent drinks and extensive drink menu (don't believe there's food). This is a good place to branch out and try spirits you normally don't drink. Service: From the doorman to the bartenders, everyone here is extremely friendly and good at what they do. Summary: Loved it here, and can't wait to come back when I visit Austin again. Right up there with favorites around the country like Bar Shiru (Oakland), Mace (NYC), The Violet Hour (Chicago), and The Elk Room (Balitmore. Yes, Baltimore!). read more

Very cozy cocktail bar. They have bar seating for couples and bigger tables/booths along the walls for larger parties. As you approach the entrance, the bouncer outside will welcome you and someone else will lead you to your seats. I recommend going earlier in the night as the space isn't very large, and you may be stuck outside waiting for a while if you go at peak times. My friend and I tried the Indian Paintbrush and Penicillin and both were mixed very well. read more
This place is a must. Drinks are on the pricey side, but it's worth the adventure of finding it. So so cute, and the staff is super friendly. Love that they play records!!! Go, find it! Have an Indian paintbrush and lounge out in the back corner. read more
One of my favorite bars in Austin! We happened to be walking around the area and decided to check out this speakeasy located in a garage, which is a pretty cool concept! We went on a Friday night around 9:30pm. There was a short line and we waited about 10 minutes before we were let in. Bar is pretty dark inside and intimate. Music was pretty loud. We ended up ordering 5 drinks between the two of us! Good thing we also happened to eat two dinners that night, haha. My favorite drink was the Indian Paintbrush and my husband's favorite was the Penicillin. He's a scotch / bourbon / whiskey kind of guy for reference. Definitely recommend getting those two drinks at your first visit. The other drinks we got (Corpse-Paint Reviver, Maybe tomorrow, Paper Plane) were decent but not our favorites. Service was great! Would totally come back and try their happy hour next time! read more
