Authentic Indian hideaway not far from Centraal Station. We ordered samosas with a chicken Tikka masala and garlic naan. Not as strongly spiced as I'm used to having more mildly flavored. The naan was delicious.

I was so excited to enjoy my food that I forgot to take any pictures. You'll just have to imagine it. The entrance to Gandhi was hard to find using gps, but it was definitely worth walking around in a circle to find. It's right off of the main street. Ample seating inside and a very clean restaurant. Staff was very friendly. Our waiter was an absolute delight. He was making great jokes the entire time. Very good with English speaking as well. We ordered vegetable samosa, bhindi bhajee, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. Everything tasted amazing! We even ordered some naan for take-away because it was so good. Would absolutely eat here as often as possible.

Don't come to this place. This place wants to charge you for everything. they don't provide tap water. I was in Europe for last 10 days & ate all 3 meals in variety of restaurants, didn't see anywhere restaurant denying tap water. If you want water, bottled water for 5.5€ is the only the option. Also, this doesn't align with Indian culture...denying water....seriously? In US, India & Europe all ranges & types of restaurants provide an option to pick between bottled & tap water. We were 3 of us, went to Gandhi for dinner. We ordered a bunch of items: Samosa Veg-paneer kadai Daal tadka Garlic naan Cheese-garlic naan Onion kulcha Papad (charged) Onion (charged - 3.75€) Water (charged - 5.5€) My stars are only for the food. I'll be honest... the only thing good is the food. Food was good. Chef did a good job. Won't recommend this place. There are way better restaurants in Amsterdam.

Great service and always quality food. Owner always makes an extra effort with his guests. Lamb madras is really tasty and they will adjust the heat in the dishes to suit

Oooh my little gem. I found this place many many years ago by strolling through the streets of Amsterdam, and turning into a strange little hallway that has signs promising massages. I still don't know what led me to turn in this hallway lol. This place is so easy to miss but it's so important to find. As you walk down Damrak you'll pass souvenir shops, frite stands, and all kinds of little restaurants. In between a couple of those, you will see a small hallway with both Massage and Ghandi Restaurant signs. Walk allll the way to the back, and you will eventually be met with the door of a very special Indian restaurant. This place is so welcoming and cozy. The staff is very nice and the food is amazing. I usually have something like Chicken Tikka Masala and Roti. I make it a point to come here EVERY time I come to Amsterdam. It's a must visit.

Don't be put off by the entrance.Go! It's fabulous.

I did not expect good Indian food in Amsterdam, but here it is! The place looks suspicious as you enter past signs for steam bath and massage, but it is totally legit and it's great.

1 stars, when I arrived here I waited for 15 min before some one ask me If am ready to order ?? Even when am done and am ready to pay I waited 10 min until they found out that I want to pay ????!!!!

Great food, but a hidden gem! Small, unassuming entrance. Locals know this place. It's located down a long hallway that tucks it behind souvenir shops. Great food and great service. Northern Indian style. Not a tourist trap. Ask for sharing specials!

Our tandoori chicken tikka and samosa starters (a little blurry)

Home in the wall on the main drag, caught the small unassuming sign/door out of the corner of my eye. Don't walk past or let the weird corridor or tacky decor put you off! Service was good, a little slow but we were starving. Food was amazing. Had tadoori chicken tikka, samosas, and butter chicken with naan bread. Filled us both up (bf and I) the meal was €43 but that includes our drinks. Definitely worth the price. And didn't result in a poor stomach! Bonus!

Food excellent, service a bit relaxed but it was dinner - not a race. I had the lamb vindaloo - as good as any I've had.

I was only able to get tickets for the AFH for a 6:15 p.m. tour, meaning we got finished around 8 p.m. Hence, this became our late dinner option that day. I wasn't sure how busy they would be, but I guess we arrived late enough so that they had a few tables available. The restaurant is located on a fairly busy street (served by trams, which we later used to get back to the Central Station area). It is only a few doors down from one of the canals. The menu indicated that they had been in business since the 1980s, so they must be doing something right. As an added reference point, they are about a 20-minute walk from the Central Station. We arrived and were greeted and shown to a table near the front of the restaurant. It seemed to extend quite a way back, but I didn't have a reason to venture further in. Our server was friendly and provided menus and took our drink orders. I know they had wine but I don't know if they had a full bar. There were certainly several tables of Americans and Brits who appeared to be well served in that regard, so maybe there was a bar... The menu was fairly extensive, with an appreciable overlap with dishes we were familiar with from Indian places in the U.S. We all found something to our taste. I think we ended up with a couple of vegetarian curry dishes and one that was chicken-based. We also got naan and rice. Everything was good, and given the lateness of dinner (for us), we were hungry. When the food came out, they also brought one warming stand per dish. This was something new that we encountered at a couple of restaurants on this trip. This is probably more relevant in the winter months, but it kept the food hot. I'd likely return here for another meal if I'm ever back in Amsterdam.

Very elegant interior, with tasteful decor, soft ambient music, best for couples, but also able to accommodate larger groups with a reservation. We were seated right away and greeted by our server Sona, very gracious, patient, attentive, and professional. She asked about any allergies and then took our order of chicken tikka saag and chicken tikka masala, both medium spiciness (also asked if we would like Indian medium or European medium--we chose Indian medium). These entrees come with rice, and we also ordered garlic naan. Immediately, they brought chilled bottled water and complimentary thin crispy cracker like bread with red sauce and green sauce (I didn't catch the names). I liked the green sauce better (mint), and my husband liked the red one better (tamarind)--both were lovely. About 20 minutes later, our entrees arrived piping hot, and cooked to perfection! Tender chicken, savory rich flavors in the masala and saag, both the right level of spicy for us! Glad we had enough rice and water! The lamb saag was absolutely delicious and the salad was quite good as well. We weren't huge fans of the mixed tandoori plate, the flavors weren't very developed and it needed more spice, but we were overall satisfied with the service and the dining experience. It appears from the other reviews that the momos are one of the best things to eat here, but I personally couldn't because I am gluten free, so considering how delicious the saag is, I bet dishes other than the tandoori are very delicious as well! Overall I would recommend this place.
