Excellent meal. The lamb curry and mixed tandoori dishes were very good and portions were acceptable. Naan was outstanding! Service was quick and pleasant. We came here after a long day of walking thru the city and really just stumbled upon it after mulling thru the endless food options in the area. We arrived at about 3pm and, as expected, the restaurant was quiet except for the 1 party that was dining. The restaurant was pretty big and had 2 floors to it, but to be honest, I'm not sure if this restaurant would ever get crowded because of its size and the number of options in the area. Anyhow, my girlfriend and I ordered the Rogan Josh and Tikka Masala specials. We were given 1 huge bowl of rice to share and our separate curries. I've had my fair share of Indian food in the past in New York and the food was good, but nothing that would blow me away. The rice was cooked well, but a bit on the cool side when it arrived at our table. There was plenty of curry in the serving dishes so we definitely were not starving by meal's end. We liked each of our orders and the food was solid. If anyone is craving Indian food or any meal for that matter in the area, this would make a great option for lunch or dinner. read more

This is probably the best Indian food I had any where in the world. Lam biryani was off the hook. Each disk we ordered had complex well developed flavored that had to be cooked with a lot of love and attention to detail. Highly recommended. The name and location is unfortunate but you should not let it deter you. The food is excellent!!! read more

Intimate dining spot, with a large, varied menu. We were a party of 3 and ate family style as we sampled each other's entree. I have had Indian food all around the world, I will not miss the chance to dine here my next trip to Amsterdam. The food was prepared quickly and was well presented when delivered by our friendly, efficient waiter. I cannot recommend the kheer. Perhaps it is a regional version of what I normally think is a never to pass up treat, but I did not care for this version and have not tasted kheer like this anywhere else. This to me is a small thing that does not dampen my enthusiasm for, or enjoyment of this restaurant. This is the only reason I could not score it 5 star. read more

Kris and I were a little nervous about eating in the Red Light District, especially at a place called Kamasutra, but it's tough for us to say, "No, thank you," to Indian food. Especialy when we're hungry. And we were hungry. On a side street not too far from the main drag of the Red Light District, nestled between supermarkets and ridiculous tourist junk selling shops, Kamasutra is a small Indian restaurant with an authentic look. The waitstaff is incredibly friendly; we adored our Irish waitress. The food was good. We had naan, onion bahji, daal mahkni, saag paneer and chicken tikka masala. We enjoyed it all and the only complaint we had was that the naan could have been cooked a tiny bit more (but was still great) and the saag was a little strange. It wasn't bad, per se, but it wasn't like any other saag we've ever had. The price was reasonable, staff exceptional and the food was definitely better than what you'd expect in the RLD. Definitely worth a spot if you've got a craving for Indian food while in Amsterdam. read more

I m from india but live in USA, so an authentic review . On a recent trip to Amsterdam I tried 3 Indian restaurants: Kamasutra (weird name), Balraj and Namaskar. Kama: 3/5- The food I got was one of the best at Kamasutra. Pretty authentic. The restaurant is not upscale by any means, but quality and taste of food was best and prices were reasonable. Here is the hiccup: there was a small hair I found on plate, which I apparently hated. Also I found it weird that they did not serve tap water (which is unheard of in US or India). The overall service was good. I would have given them 5/5 for taste of food if I had not discovered the hair, but I am expert at finding them somehow.....hate it!!! Balraj: 2/5- The food quality was below average. Prices are a bit high for quantity. They did not serve naan or desert with thali. The did provide tap water :). Namaskar: 1.5/5....this was the worst food quality. Seriously. A typical Indian dish I got tasted nothing like Indian. Also they were a bit pushy in serving water bottle. I would avoid this place as prices are bit high for not so Indian food they offer. read more

The Cannibale was full up so walking back to our hotel we decided to try this place out. 100 Foot Journey this is not. Do not go the extra way for the tough, er... lamb? I think not; this was a full grown sheep. Gamey. The Chicken Tikka Masala wasn't creamy. The spices tasted old on my tongue when they should be fresh. The chicken had a chemical taste. Ordered naan bread late but it didn't come until we were almost done, then the top one was good, but the bottom one looked and tasted like the bottom of the pile. Disappointing for sure. This all said, the servers were very nice, though it must be a family place because there weren't enough people working. Probably why the naan was late- had to remind them. Another downer is the cleaning solutions and rags out in plain sight by the cash register. The scent of cleaner doesn't go well with the smell of food. Clearly one wants a clean establishment, but we don't want that to be the overwhelming scent. Once we got home, clothes smelled like the food. Yikes. Oh well. read more

I'm so glad that we stopped here this was some of the best Indian food I've had (and I've had a lot) service was good and portions were very big. This is a small Indian restaurant but the food is just as good or better than larger more expensive ones in Houston. The server was very friendly and attentive. The chicken tikka masala was excellent and the naan was the perfect companion for dipping in the delicious sauce. Combine with a Kingfisher beer and you have a great meal at a reasonable price.
