This was some pf the most flavorful and good tasting food I have ever experienced in my life. Sherpa had great reviews and that held true for my experience. I had no idea I needed Nepalese/Tibetan/Indian food in my life. The smell as you walk into the restaurant immediately grabs your attention and lets you know you're in for an experience. Everything on the menu looked delectable and my only regret is that my stomach isn't big enough to have ordered every single thing on the menu. Indian food is one of my favorite cuisines in the US, and I was happy to discover cuisines from so many cultures in Amsterdam as well. Sherpa also has a Tibetan and Nepalese twist, and the menu had so many new-to-me items, including Momos. The restaurant smells amazing when you walk in, so I knew that choosing an entrée would be difficult, especially with so many vegetarian options. I ordered the Tshel momos, which are stuffed with minced vegetables and steamed. They were served with a homemade tomato sauce that, while cold, complimented them perfectly. They were not spicy, which was different for me since I usually go for some form of noodles and love at least medium spice. My husband had the Yeti's Food- Stir fried noodles with boneless chicken and vegetables with Himalayan herbs. He usually goes for curry, so this was a change for him as well. Both of us really enjoyed our meals and are glad we went with something we've never seen in the US before. The service was great, and the servers brought out fresh papadam, raita, and some other condiments to try as soon as we were seated. They also kept our waters and my husband's beer filled and brought us Wilhelmina mints at the end of our meal with the check. Those mints are amazing and so much better than the US post-meal mints, and I had to buy a large package to take home! This place JUUUUST missed the mark. The food was amazeballs. But the spice level was waaaaay off. Sherm and I requested the hottest spice level, and it was veeeery mild at best. However, please re-read my second sentence. Again, the taste and quality were amazing!! Well, ok then, why the 3? After being served our drinks super quickly, we had to wait 20 minutes before we were able to give our food order. Then, after ordering food, we waited at least 30-40 minutes before it even arrived. The food tastes as amazing as the restaurant smells as soon as you walk in. Service is prompt and friendly, we got 24 Tshel Sherpa Feast for the vegetarian and 25 Gyakok for hubs and I to share. Samosas were some of the best I have ever had and the momos were incredible. We all even wished there were more momos even after we stuffed ourselves with all the delicious food. They were that good. We had a reservation for 6:30 and it was a perfect day outside. The host was kind to keep an eye out for one of the outdoor tables opening up so that we could move outside. All of the servers were incredibly sweet, and had smiles on their faces throughout the evening. The food was delicious- not too spicy, just right. Service was stellar. I let them know about my lactose intolerance and they made sure that none of the food had dairy in it. We ordered the daal vegetable platter and it was stunning. I could write this review in two words: sheer perfection. OK, I'm never a two word guy. The ambiance is welcoming. The service is efficient and very friendly. The prices are good, not great. The food, however, is great. And, the portions are plentiful. To be honest, I was somewhat leary of going to a restaurant that tried to master three different cuisines, even if they are similar. In our party of four, we ordered Nepalese, Himalayan, and Indian. They mastered it all. While we don't come to Amsterdam often, I can assure you that Sherpa will be the site of at least one of our meals the next time we are here. It's just that good. Great dinner, centrally located, highly recommend! It was busy on a Sunday night, mostly tourists (unsurprising given the location), and the staff were professional and efficient. I ordered the mixed Momo's, which came with a soup to start (delicious) and the chicken, lamb, and vegetable Momo's were all excellent. The veggie Momo's are folded in a leaf shape to distinguish them from the meat ones (clever!) and it was nice to see there's a dedicated vegetarian section in the menu (items described in Dutch and English). Excellent and satisfying, with kind, friendly service. We noted Sherpa's strong rating, and weren't disappointed. Americans can pay with cash or card, which is noteworthy in a city where some places aren't accepting either. We tried the Nepalese vegetarian dumplings and recommend them. They are similar to Chinese dumplings but with different flavours. I would definitely recommend making a booking as it was pretty busy. Their food is delectable. They have Nepalese inspired curries as well as a few Indian fusion dishes. My husband and I love to get their pre-set dinner which is about €17.00 pp and comes with noodles, fried rice and a tower of hearty vegetable soup with your choice of meat or vegetable momo's. For those of you who don't know what momo's are, they are Tibetan/Nepalese dumplings with a spicier filling. It's the perfect fusion of flavors of their neighboring countries. I wanted to go vegetarian on my fire right in Amsterdam and went to Yelp to find good vegetarian options near my hotel. Found this place open on Sunday night and went there straight. I ordered the lemon soda, the veggie thali and the tomato soup. The lemon soda with masala added was awesome and went well with the papad they give you. The soup was ok, more syrupy then soupy but the thali was really good and generous portions too. I would visit again especially if I am looking for vegetarian options. read more

I can't say enough about this amazing gem of a restaurant! From the hospitality to the service to the divine food, this charming restaurant should get a 10 out of 5. I went with three others and we ordered many different appetizers and entrees. Each and every one was fantastic! I have traveled the world and as a lover of authentic Indian food, this restaurant was indeed, superior to all others I have visited (including the many I have dined at in the US). We loved all of the dishes but a few favorites from their menu I would not miss include: chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani, their lusha Sherpa feast (lamb and deliciously spiced noodles). These are only a few of the dishes we enjoyed. Their perfectly spiced samosa and lovely momo (we ordered the steamed, which were wonderful, but they also offer them fried as well!). Each item comes out piping hot, cooked to order, and with love from restauranteur, Clutm. He was warm and welcoming, helped us decide what to order, and could not have been more kind and proud to share his exquisite food with us. If you are living in or visiting Amsterdam, do not miss the opportunity to have the best Indian food ever at Sherpa (clearly a labor of love!). They serve a chip with two dipping sauces which was nice. The garlic naan was hot, moist and chewy. The onion fritter I would pass on - nothing special. This place ruins lives. Why? Because you will never find better Indian food anywhere and you have to travel all the way to the Netherlands to find the best. What a fantastic way to kick off our last night in Amsterdam! This restaurant is amazing from top to bottom. Great service, delicious food, great homemade alcohol(get the Raksi). I ordered the drink mixed with pineapple juice but actually prefer the straight Raksi, which is made in house. On to the food. The dumplings we got were a mix of chicken, lamb and veggies. Served with some sort of peanut sauce. We told the server that we liked spicy food, so he brought us some green sauce to add, warning it was very spicy, and he wasn't lying. sooooo good, but take in small doses. Even though this place is located in the touristic area around Leidseplein which is not known for it's good restaurants it is really amazing. I have been here over 8 times and I keep coming back. My boyfriend and I live in Amsterdam and this is one of our favourite places to go out for dinner. The staff is always helpful with finding out which dishes are vegan or can be made vegan. the food is absolutely delicious and the friendly service is what keeps us coming back for more! We went there last weekend and the waitor named our friend as "the king of spice" cause he finished the spiciest dish on the menu, it was pretty hilarious. We laughed so much. This food was surprisingly great. It is surrounded by a ton of restaurants that pretty much seemed to be there only for tourists, which is not our typical preference of restaurants. My wife and I are gluten-free, and pescatarian, so this was a great option for us. There were plenty of Vegetarian options, and seafood options. The food was not overly salty, made with amazing spices, and even though we ordered it mild, it was a little spicier than we had expected but delicious. The dishes that they used to serve, were very traditional and ethnic, which was nice to see. I also love whiskey, and was excited to try the Indian Amrut whiskey, which did not disappoint. Service was spectacular, which I have not experienced much in Amsterdam at this point. We sat outside, and enjoy the weather and people watching... So I cannot attest to the ambience inside. Oh my goodness.. This place is so yummy! Being Nepali, I've never been to a restaurant that can top my moms home cooking but Sherpa came very close! Food is fresh, great quality and the achar (sauce for momo) was amazinggggg! I can't wait to go back to amsterdam to hit up sherpa again!
