Excellent Indian food and wonderful staff! Highly recommend if you're looking for delicious authentic Indian food in Amsterdam!

We were staying across the canal at Hotel Mai. It was a rainy day and we were super hungry. Walked over to Ganesha. Ordered almost everything. Butter chicken. It was the best I've ever had in my life!! Chicken tandoor. Sooo good. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The Samosas. We ordered 4. They were the size of my balled up fist. And man o man we're they delicious. We also ordered the chicken wings which were good, but couldn't compare to the other dishes. The ti e was exactly what my 10 year old wanted. Really hit the spot and paired well with all the other dishes. Their dipping sauces paired really well. Especially the sweet one. Lastly, the naan bread. Not too thick, not too thin. Warm and pillow soft with just the right touch of crisp on the outside. Portions were plenty for my family of 4. Even had leftovers witch should tell you something considering how hungry we were. read more

After walking all day around Amsterdam we were in search of some vegan food. The closest and most agreed upon option was about 1km away from Central Station and as we were headed there I noticed this restaurant from across the street. I had been craving some Indian food after four days of eating non-Indian food so we all agreed to go in. Let's just say the food was okay. We ordered it mild and it had no taste. It even lacked salt. I usually eat spicy but because we were in a group of non-spicy eaters I had to go with the flow. Everyone started adding salt to their respective dishes which is a bad sign if you ask me. I normally don't like to add salt for health reasons but I had to do it. What they lack in taste they made up for in service. The staff was kind and always had a smile. The only thing I didn't like was the waiter standing over us as we calculated the tip as I am used to the bill being dropped off and me taking my time to add everything up. I agree with the other local Yelper,if you are a tourist this is a good/ok place but if you love Indian food or are Indian there are better places. read more

Food was ok, but service was better. I am giving them 3 stars because the food was not amazing, but not bad either. I would say you will maybe rate them **** 4 Stars if you are a tourist.***3 Stars if your a local in Amsterdam.** 2 Stars if your a connoisseur for Indian food. Great food at a very affordable price! Tried their takeout and got a soup, kebab, mixed meat and paneer masala for below €20. A large bag of food and I couldn't even eat it all (even though I don't eat the rice). The taste was superb and everything had an authentic feel to it. And the menu had basically only interesting dishes that I will be glad to try some other time. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the mood for some Indian cuisine. read more

Service was excellent from the minute I walked in the door. Clean small but comfortable restaurant. The butter nan bread was fresh and perfectly cooked. I ordered the lamb saag that is spinach based very similar to palak but a little spicier. I asked for medium spice and it was spectacular. The small side salad had a sweet hint to it and it complemented the spices very well. The rice was fluffy and warm when it arrived at the table. I was alone but noticed that everyone seemed to be happy with their food orders. And, the family running the restaurant was super friendly and attentive. I love this place. I've eaten here about 6 time this far and each time the food has been amazing, the service is great (their staff is really friendly) and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. It feels very much like a family owned restaurant where they are just happy to share their food with their guests. It's really good Indian food with decent size portions...I always overeat there (which is not necessarily a bad thing...hehehehe). I enjoyed the two chicken dishes I tried. I don't even eat bread usually, but this place has me slavering for buttery, lightly salty nan. I had the cheese nan, and I want to go back and try the garlic butter one. If you like beer, you must try the King Cobra. Share with at least one other person because it is big, and the beer is strong - 7.5% alcohol. I had never tried a beer that has a secondary in-bottle fermentation (like Champagne) and we really impressed. The service was friendly. We were on vacation in Amsterdam and yelped a good restaurant close to our Airbnb the choice was between Italian Chinese or Indian... we were recommended this restaurant by our Airbnb host... the main reason we decided on this restaurant was the air conditioning... it has been 80-90 degree temperature in Amsterdam during our visit... so air conditioning was something we needed... we gate eating Indian food while traveling as we get gourmet Indian food at home everyday... we loved the food at this restaurant service was really good too friendly staff and would definitely recommend coming from an Indian... I always look for reviews from Indians when looking for an Indian restaurant but there weren't any so was a little doubtful but actually liked the food and recommend it for sure... read more

Our visit to Europe would not have been the same without a good curry so we decided to try this place which was close our hotel. The decor was nice (better than most Indian restaurants) and the staff were friendly. Service was slow, although this being Amsterdam, nothing unusual. We both really enjoyed our vegetarian curries and portions were decent. The meal came with free side salads which I appreciated as a great way to clean off the palate. I highly recommend the large mango lassi - it tastes lovely and comes in a pint glass! read more

I really wanted to rate zero for this Indian hotel if there is an option to. The reasons are firstly, they do not respect their customers and not a quality of food that they serve with very high prices compare with other Indian hotels. We didn't know we were in the mood for Indian food until we stepped in this restaraunt and inhaled. Now, there are a lot of things in Amsterdam that you can inhale and feel a sense of wellbeing, but the smell of the food at Ganesha is intoxicating. The lamb saag was the best I've ever had. Tikka masala could have been a bit spicier. Vegetable samosas had a wonderful mildly spicy flavor and texture. If I was a local, I would be here regularly. read more

Very friendly service and great food! We ate here twice recently, once dining in and once ordering take out - they have large portions, and out takeout was wrapped in a layer of plastic and a layer of tinfoil to keep it warm and neat. read more

Although the food tasted pretty good, three out of nine in our party got violently ill after eating at this restaurant.

A large group of us ate at Ganesha, three of the group contracted food poisoning from the meal, the only common factor appears to have been that the three of us affected ate the side salad which was served, it appears that some cross contamination occurred in the kitchen. Sadly cannot recommend it on that basis alone, even though the service was great. read more
