Even after making reservations, we had to wait about 30 minutes bc their seating system was quite odd; why seat a couple in between two tables when you have a large group reserved a few minutes later? There's almost no ventilation so you will definitely smell like barbecue once you leave. They're a bit extra that they charge you for green leaves unlike Korean restaurants and the taste of the side dishes and soups in particular are not up to par. I believe my friends loved the alcohol they ordered there, and I loved the watermelon juice we ordered for the table. The quality of service was excellent; we were checked in on regularly and the server struck a good balance of professional and casual/friendly. Since we were ordering in a group, pricing for their courses felt more fair. It might be more asking for a smaller party. We ordered two of the staircases and then a platter of their best cuts. Taking 2 stars off for the service that was received. Partially was perhaps our fault, but if their hours says 1:30AM, i would assume we can be served, or atleast be here till 1:30AM. We arrived at 11PM after getting off work, which sucked because alot of the places in Flushing were closed. This place was still opened so we went here. Food was GREAT. We ordered the A5, the staircase and chuck rib and mushroom platter. We opted to cook it ourselves and everything was perfect. Why the 2 stars off? The moment the food came, we havent even started cooking yet as the hot plate was warming up and we were given our bill. I get it, the cashiers wants to close off their checks for the night etc etc. That gave our party a negative mood as we havent even gotten our drinks yet and we were presented the bill. Ok whatever, i'll pay the bill. Our waiter came back with it, i signed it and took my CC back. I have not left the tip yet because we havent even started eating when he asked us to tip? Excuse me? How can i tip you for your service when : 1. we cooked our own food 2. you presented the bill to us before we even had a chance to eat 3. I tip you so you can ignore us for the rest of the night? Bug off! We still tipped the usual 20%, but it was such a negative experience that caused me to write this. We also wanted to order another side of lettuce(wasnt free until another bill came to our table) and we were told to pay it right away($2.99) another star taken off All and all, the place definitely needs a revision on these practices. Brought my mother there for her birthday . I heard a lot about this place before going there. I was looking forward to go to this place as many of my friends have gone already and they all loved it . We got the signature "stairs" full of food and more . Everything were delicious and service was pretty decent given that the place was completely packed. The only issue the place has in my opinion is that there is no elevator for people who have strollers and wheelchairs. Ppl with strollers and wheel chairs would have to carry the stroller up 10+ steps of stairs. The other issue I had was I brought the birthday cakes to the location an hour prior and the person who took our cake did not put it in the refrigerator. The cake was all deformed and soft. Had to come check this new place out since the Meat Lover Staircase Combo looked so rad online. First off, the restaurant is huge. The spot used to be a dim-sum restaurant so makes sense how they had the opportunity to have a super expansive space. This made dining here feel safe. There were plexiglass up to provide extra safety in between tables, all workers wore masks, and hand sanitizer was provided as well. My family and I came early in the afternoon, around 12 PM on a Saturday and there was no wait so we were seated super quickly. We ordered the Meat Lover Staircase Combo, enoki wrapped in bacon, pork intestine, and side of lettuce. The Staircase Combo comes with some lettuce to wrap your meats in but definitely not enough for four. We were shocked they charged us for more lettuce. Usually something that would be included with the order at other bbq restaurants. The Staircase Combo had some good and bad. Some stand-outs were the wagyu beef, pork belly, and kalbi-like marinated beef. The other cuts of meat were dry and didn't feel as high quality. The presentation is super fun and instagrammable but I would not get it again. I would opt to order cuts of meat that we actually enjoyed eating. The best part about Gan-Hoo is the dipping sauce they make. It's the perfect blend of tomato, soy sauce, and garlic flavors with just the right amount sweetness. It paired super well with most of the meats. For the price you're paying, it's not expensive considering the variety you get but I would not consider coming back. I have been wanting to dine indoor at this restaurant for a long time after seeing the specular presentations of the BBQ set. This restaurant is supposed to have the best of Chinese, Korean and Japanese BBQs, it turned out to be just instragramable, nothing memorable. Don't get me wrong, the presentation was no short from you see from fellow yelpers' pictures. It was sadly the only thing that stood out. We had the premium beef set and a peanut appetizer and cheesy corn. And the finally bill came out to be over $160 for just two of us. Unlike traditional Korean BBQ restaurants, you will NOT get complementary banchan dishes. It is really let-down because banchan is where different restaurants show off their non-meat dish prep skills. They help to cut down the richness of the meal and provide freshness. The meats are nothing to brag about, feel like supermarket grade; with a price tag at $99, I expect much better quality cuts. There were four cuts of beef and only the marinated short ribs I'd order again. The beef tongue is just too much. The first bite was okay but it was just too fatty and chewy, it really turned off my appetite after two bites. The ribeye definitely doesn't look like USDA prime, not aged and pathetically thin. And whatever the last cut is, it is super chewy and hard. It is probably the worst BBQ meat I've had. The worst part is the staff here do not know how to cook. Helpful staff is one of the key element to a successful BBQ restaurants, where essentially they are half chefs who make sure meats are properly cooked. I doubt any of the staff here received training at all. They overcooked our meats and sliced them wrong. First, no one asked how we'd like our steak cooked, someone came to slice the meat along the grain instead of against the grain, then someone else came saying 2 more minutes which led to a well-done disaster. No, thanks, I will not be back. There are so many great Korean BBQ restaurants in Flushing and Murray Hill area and I can make out a more decent home BBQ meal from H Mart cuts. read more

The cooked dishes were also surprisingly good here - our table raved about the spicy boneless chicken feet (SO spicy and numbing, but delicious), the cucumber salad, and the fried calamari. We also ordered the Gan-hoo beef combo and a small assortment of veggies, and felt that it was plenty of food for 4 hungry people. They also have large format drinks which is fun for a group. Service was prompt and friendly, and they frequently changed out our grill which was nice. We neither felt stuffed to the point of being sick or left Hungry. This stairway platter is really good for people who go there for their first time to sample all the different meats. However, next time I would order the individual meats. I really liked the altar beef the best from this set. Their octopus was also really tender and good. All their cuts of meat were pretty good actually - with some better than others depending on which part of the cut it was. I would def try the king steak next time on its own since many ppl rave about it and that altar beef on its own. If you do enter from the mall, just turn right and go up the stairs out and exit to the left and you'll walk outside and get to the right entrance. On to the food, pretty good - pretty fresh. It was listed under Korean BBQ but I think it's more like a fusion of Japanese-Korean-Chinese DIY BBQ. That said, this occupies a huge space that was preceded by multiple failed dim sum restaurants. They modernized the entire place with small booths- parties of 2-8 are best suited here. The wait was not long and they have a very integrated online presence with virtual waitlists, etc. The booths are really good for Covid-world. The meat-lover's staircase was just a wonderful way to sample the restaurant and obviously aesthetically engaging for everyone at the table. It's an automatic insta-presentation. Food was wonderfully fresh and varied. Not too much sauces but some of the food comes marinated already. The server was just the right amount of attentiveness- stepped in whenever our incompetence was too obvious. Never too much and never felt rushed. Drinks were a complete bargain.
