When I first got into 40k this place was my first stop! Although their pricing for games workshop products is full retail (other retailers offer a 10%-20% discount) I still buy models from them occasionally. The real reason I love this place is the modeling and hobby supplies. They have literally everything you could want or need. Different brands of paint, lots of brushes, terrain, hobby tools, literally everything you need. Their prices on this stuff are very reasonable as well! I buy all my paint and painting supplies from here! They also have a big game room with several tables for all kinds of table top games. I have been gaming since 1974 (wargames, roleplaying, collectible card games, etc.) and I have absolutely no hesitation in naming Games Plus the absolute best game shop that I have ever been to. Unlike many struggling games stores these days that must limit their selection, Games Plus has such an extensive inventory that it is almost a museum more than a retail store. I literally will take a day off and spend half of it just perusing the aisles browsing merchandise that I have never seen before. The staff knows what it is doing, has always been friendly to me and is willing to order and hold anything that they may be out of stock on. There is a large area for open gaming in a separate room off to the side of the store. This helps hold down the noise level in the store. The only negative I have with Games Plus is that it is a bit of a drive from my home. But as I said, it is good enough to make it a *destination* that I will travel for and plan a day around and trust me, there are not many places that I will do this for. Highly Recommended read more

If you want Monopoly, head to target. If you want intense hardcore military simulation, fantasy and other role playing, miniatures, off the hook whacky card games, or just some crazy detailed board game this store is for you! The store is not for the faint of heart, it is like a game hoarders paradise. There are games stacked under and on top of other games, files of role playing modules, racks and racks of miniatures piles to the ceiling. It is a bit intimidating and time consuming to browse and hunt. My brain was full after just a few minutes of looking and it took a good couple more hours to sort things out and figure out what I wanted. Then I started playing with the awesome selection of dice! If you like to game and are looking for a step up from Risk or Monopoly, give this place a try. Ask questions. I went there for a Game Day and had a great time. I can testify that the gaming area is clean and welcoming (even the washroom!) and the staff is friendly and helpful. But it is a veritable WONDERLAND of miniatures of all types as well as crafting supplies in addition to having tons of games and source books for a wide variety of games. What a treasure! read more

I have been shopping at Games Plus for several years. I'm writing this review because they no longer attend to a customer. I was there on Saturday looking for an old 2nd edition AD&D book. I was standing at the front counter while the employee was having a conversation with three other patrons. They were talking about really non-sense. I waited for 10 maybe 12 minutes before the employee even acknowledged me. I thought to myself "finally." I asked about the book I was looking for. One of the patrons the employee was talking to. Interrupted and started to dis the role-playing system book I was looking for. So disrespectful. I ignored the guy. The employee didn't even apologize for the rude interruption. They didn't have the book. Long story short. I don't feel that patrons should be standing around the register and blocking it. Also the employees shouldn't be having long drawn out conversations with those patrons. I was a customer with a question and I had to wait until they were done talking about what color they should paint their elves' cloak. read more

The best game store in Illinois and quite possibly the best in the country. Behind this humble facade lies the largest selection of board games, card games, RPG's and miniature wargaming miniatures I've ever seen. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful. As if that weren't enough they have a very large gaming area with lots of terrain, something that's increasingly hard to find. Of particular interest to wargamers is the massive selection of gaming miniatures covering fantasy, sci-fi and historical Many are the sort of small-distribution, boutique lines that one usually can only see online. Further, their ranges of popular miniatures like Reaper, GW, PP, Battletech and others are virtually complete as compared to the limited selection you will find at other stores. The result is several long glorious aisles comprised solely of well-organized miniatures blisters. Additionally, their twice-yearly gaming auctions are 4 days of incredible chances to both quickly rid yourself of old gaming material and find great bargains. All this to say, this is the wargame store you've dreamed about and if you've been gaming long enough it's everything-and-more of the gaming stores you remembered before gaming stores mostly disappeared. I live a fair distance away and I don't buy alot of new minis and games, but I attend most of the auctions and try to make the trek up every month or two enjoy the place, get in a game and buy something just to support this treasure of a shop. read more

Awesome tabletop gaming store. They've got pretty much any supply you need and will give you little tips on how best to paint/glue/cut something. Very friendly to newbies. Games Plus (Games-Plus.com) is the brick and mortar store with the largest selection of gaming material that I have ever seen inside a brick and mortar store. I find it to be quite enjoyable to stroll the isles overflowing, busting even, with games of all sorts. This store does not have computer games (gaming), is not a gambling establishment (gaming), but has just about everything else. They have just about every game on the market (they carry gambling paraphernalia such as poker chips), and have a large collection of out of print games. I expressly enjoy the large selection of role playing games (RPGs). They have a huge open gaming room, and a smaller office-like gaming room when less noise is desired. I've been a Games Plus customer for more than ten years. The staff are just the best. A couple of them have become personal friends and have played in games with me. Hell, when I'm bored or sad I just drop in, shop or play a game, hang out, and feel better. Many people have described Games Plus as a non-alcoholic neighborhood bar for gamers, and that really is how it feels. It is actually a place where everybody knows your name. The selection here is ridiculously good, comprising tabletop RPGs, board games, miniatures games, etc. The staff are very personable and will try hard to make you happy whether you've got just a vague idea about what type of game you might enjoy, or you're looking for something very specific. They have one of the largest game rooms I've ever seen, and they actively promote games and events, as well as work with customers who organize game room events too. I have only one criticism of the place, and that is that the board games and RPG books could be better organized for easy browsing. The board and self-contained card games, for example, aren't alphabetized. Game stores in general do tend to be quirky about that type of thing. BUT those guys will take you right to the game you ask about, so it's not really a big problem to get what you're looking for. And if they can order it and hold it for you, they happily will. I've even had a couple of the employees call me and let me know they had something I might be interested in and that could easily sell out, and asked if I'd like them to hold a copy for me (you can give your number and they'll keep it on file for this). This might sound like a pushy sales technique, but they only do that with me because they know me personally and know I don't mind - and in fact, I like it. It's something they rarely contact me about, so it isn't anything more than them being considerate. And one of the many things that's so impressive about Games Plus. read more

I have been frequenting game stores my entire life. The bar to which I hold all stores to was always Magic Realm in Ralston, NE (or was it La Vista?) in the mid 70's - mid 80's. They closed. Then, after moving to Chicago in 1999, I found Games Plus, the new bar. As stated in other reviews, the selection is incredible (CCG's, miniatures, RPG's, war games/simulations, Euro games, filler games, Books, out of print games. . .If it's a game, it's been in this store. There is such a selection that one can go to the store at anytime browse for an hour, and even if there was no shipment since the last time you browsed, you'll still find something you missed the time before. The only downside to the store is that the selection is so large and diverse, that it can be daunting. The staff are knowledgeable in general, yet each person has their own area of expertise, so that if one person isn't sure, the next probably knows. I asked for information about a game once, and the first person said check with the guy at the desk, and the guy at the desk gave me a run down on not only why the game had gone out of print, but when the last time any used materials had come through the store, and why the publisher closed. Again, the worst that can be said is that they have so much information, it can be daunting. In addition to the store and its personnel, the third leg of this store is the community. People come from all over the Region to go to this store. They play games in the back room continually. If you want a pick up game of something...bring it, and someone will play with you. Everyone (for the most part) is happy to share their knowledge, plays with respect, and enjoys the company. One time I brought a 12-year-old with me to play on Thursday night, and though there were a few people who thought it would slow the night down a little, no one said anything and welcomed this new gamer into the community. One doesn't find shops such as this much anymore, the kind of corner hobby store I remember growing up with long years ago. The shop I grew up with was Hobbymodels, corner of Davis and Chicago, Evanston, IL, and some of the staff at Games Plus actually remember the place. Games Plus is utterly crammed with every conceivable game, and accessory: war games, peace games, miniature figures, paints brushes, glue, plus little funny games you never knew existed (I.e. a card game that determines how cool the players are). The staff are helpful--enthusiastic is more the right word. It is a treasure: they probably even have a game about finding treasure at a game store. read more

Best game store you'll fine anywhere near this area. Staff is very helpful when approached and are very knowledgeable about games and gaming in general. They also have the almost impossible to find stuff as well (I.E. they were able to sell me a DnD 3.5 PH as I refuse to play 4.0). Their selection of minatures for both DnD and the various minature games has to be the largest that I've seen in a local store. Pretty much if you can't find it here you won't be able to find it in any store in the area. They also have auction an a regular basis which is another great way to get your hands on the hard to find stuff. Combine that with their gaming tables the have set up in the back and it's really a quailty setup (although I have yet to particpate in any of the game nights that they offer). The only real complaint I would have about the store is their layout is a little cramped due to the sheer volume of stuff that they have fit into their space. It's just a minior complaint though. Overall I would have to say that there is no other store I would rather use to get my gaming supplies. Their prices are reasonable, their points system is a good way to reward continued business, and the staff knows what they're doing. read more

I have visited this store four times. Their selection is amazing. Their prices are high, but I get it; one shops here to support the local game store, which is laudable. My problem with this place is the staff. In four trips, I have not been spoken to once. Not a "hello"; not a "are you looking for anything in particular?"; not a "thanks for coming in". I am fully prepared to dump hundreds of dollars on silly boardgames, but I'm not going to spend a penny at this store until an employee realizes that I am a customer and acknowledges same.
