Driving around today with my 15 year old daughter, she spotted the Green Lantern logo in the window of a comic shop. Knowing I am a GL fan, she said ""Dad, look!" We walked in a few minutes before closing. The man on staff (assuming he was the owner) was clearly perturbed. I explained I had not been in a comic shop for many years and just wanted to look around for a few minutes. I quickly picked up a couple of books with the intention of purchasing. However, less than two minutes after walking in, the man says "we're closed now, you have to go." It was very uncomfortable and a bit sad for my daughter. I set the books down and we left. Granted, the man may have had plans. Maybe he was pressed for time? Or, he was just not very nice. are better ways to handle this situation. What is it about business owners that think they are doing customers a favor by being in business. If you're a comic book fan in Chicago's Northwest suburbs, I recommend you find another shop. read more

I went to this store today with my two ill-behaved, screaming children and I had to literally wait a full six seconds before the store employee acknowledged me! It's pretty clear that they discriminate against white males and rotten kids. Or, you know, he just let me browse in peace. And I didn't have kids. I forget. Seriously, the store is fine; it has a good selection of mainstream and indie titles along with a large selection of comics for young children. There was one employee there and he was fine, too. He didn't accost me when I walked in and was courteous and helpful when I asked him a few questions. To those who accuse the store employees of racism: get out of your own heads. Yes, racism exists and it is, indeed, pernicious, but don't cloud the issue by assuming your petty insecurities and unsatisfied sense of entitlement are somehow someone else's racism. read more

Ever since Tony and Sue's Comics shuttered their doors in Chicago, we have been going to Comix Revolution. It's a really nice place with a great selection of comics, and even hard-to-find comics. They will check with their Evanston store if they do not have it in stock, and they can order it for you. They will greet you as a regular once you do repeat business. It's a nice place. If you are handicapped, please wtach the step INTO the store. It is raised about 2 inches and will cause problems with a wheelchair. read more

I don't get the rationale behind these recent negative bangs for Comix Revolution in Mt. Prospect. I've been coming to this store in its current and previous location for about ten years or more. The staff is intelliegent and the attitudes range from courteously deferential to insanely enthusiastic. They are frighteningly knowlegable about nearly all of their hundreds and hundreds of titles, past present and future. The news that they are somehow bigoted against certain ethnic backgrounds is just cause to raise one's eyebrows--in my years of patronage, I have seen shop clerks from African, Asian, Hispanic, European ancestory. So far, they have not hired anyone decended from Antarctica or the First peoples of Australia, but if suchlike were to show up with an encyclopedic knowledge of comic books, they will have an equal chance of being hired. One of my favorite clerks is entering into a same sex marriage. Really, the only other place I see this kind of diversity is on network sitcoms. As to 'rude', I one day happened into the store shortly after Laschida (the assistant manager) caught a 15 year old boy stealing some trade collection. She stood guard until Mt. Prospect's finest could come to take him downtown. She spoke to him in a gently disapproving tone of voice, but showed him respect and more consideration than I could possibly have managed myself were it me in her place. If anything, the staff there might want to investigate the possibilty of being slightly more rude. I have stood there in front of the counter any number of times complaining about the state of comics and comix, railing against such topics as Superman's defiance of Newtonian physics, Batman's improbably time management and the Hulk's infinately expandible purple trousers. Really now, have they nothing better to do? I can get comics online for cheaper than I spend at Comix Revolution, but I wouldn't be able to see the people who work there anymore, and depending on that week's comics, that is frequently the best part of the transaction. read more

This gem of a store used to be located in Randhurst but is now in a much more visible location. The store is clean and bright and most importantly, well-stocked. It not only carries DC and Marvel comics but independents as well. You'll also find pop culture-related books, toys, action figures, statues, posters, and more. The staff, led by manager Rudy, is always friendly and very helpful. Even though I now shop there infrequently, it's my fallback when I forget to pick something up. And the best thing -- I'm always treated like an old friend when I pop in. read more

I passed by this store while on my way to Japan Festival, and it was tucked away in a dead little strip mall, but it looked interesting so I stopped by on my way home. It's beautiful! The store isn't too big (by no means B&N), but they pack a variety of comics, manga, toys, figures, key chains, and all things indie/geek/nerdy/hip. The prices are actually affordable and the clerks are really nice people. They cater to a diverse population and walking in I saw fanatics talking about Star Wars while some kids were with their parents picking out Pokemon comics. To be more specific, they have a good selection of items from the following series: Star Wars, Star Trek, Sonic, Pokemon, Game of Thrones, Portal, anything DC, anything Marvel, Adventure Time, Bee and Puppycat, a large range of manga, and much more. For some reason, they also have a bin of Ugly plushies. Definitely call to see if they have anything you like/are interested in, and I personally think it's worth it to make a trip to check out what they have. Just be careful with parking as the lot is small and tight, and you can also miss the turn in there since it's hard to spot. read more

Do not bring your children to this store. The crabby clerk will glare at you the entire time you browse. He will not say a word to you, not to greet you, nor to offer any help, he will just scowl at you during your entire visit and make you feel extremely uncomfortable and like you are being discriminated against. I don't understand the logic of a comic book store that isn't kid-friendly. Don't many adult comic enthusiasts first develop their affection as children ? And also, they have a kids section, with toys and children's books, yet seem annoyed by the mere presence of children ! I feel like going back and just letting my kids touch everything. read more

Comix Revolution has been my shop for fifteen years. They have the best Free Comic Book Day event in May for families to bring their kids into the store for free comics. They are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly whenever someone asks for a recommendation or a place to start reading comic books. They have lots of comics for kids, superhero comics that follow the movies and TV shows, anime, and toys for all ages! It is the best organized, most open, and honestly, the best comic book store I have ever been to (and whenever I travel, I have to visit the comic book stores). A must stop shop for anyone who likes or wants to like comic books! read more

Why does this comic book store have an entire section of kids offerings if they are not a kid friendly store? I just took my two children here for a Sunday treat and the man behind the counter proceeded to scowl at us every time we stopped to look at something. I never allow my kids to act disrespectfully or rudely touch and grab things, however the man behind the counter seemed annoyed by their very presence! My son who was wearing heely's rolled from one shelf to another, which prompted the clerk to speak to the us for the very first time to admonish my son. My son did not do it again after I told him to stop yet the crabby man kept glaring at us. My husband and I felt so uncomfortable the entire time. Apparently this comic book store is only for adults who like comic books and play with toys that I assumed were for children. read more

DO NOT SHOP THERE! TAKE YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE! I've been going to this place for a long time since I was young and everything was always fine. t Recently, I bought a variant cover to a Green Arrow comic book. After a few weeks I stopped by just to be told by the manager Rudy that I was not supposed to buy that Variant it was on hold for somebody or something along those lines. He also told me that I was not allowed to shop there anymore because I disrespected the store! HOW? Why did not one of the clerks behind the counter told me that when I was buying the book? There was 2 of them working at the store. He was being ridiculous and not fair! I don't think it was my fault that this issue was on hold for someone. How was I supposed to know~?! It's not like I stole the book! He should had his workers mark the books on hold for people and not keep them on the shelf! read more

Where's the zero star option? I can not believe in 2015 we are still encountering issues with race. My child and I went into this store and no one helped us or acknowledged us. When we did ask for help, the staff was rude and bordering belligerent with me in front of my child. It was clear to me that we were not welcome in the store. This is my kind of store: a healthy and balanced mix of mainstream superhero comics (DC, Marvel), mid-level publisher genre comics (IDW, Dark Horse, Avatar), and the artsy, true indie stuff (Fantagraphics, Oni, Top Shelf). For such a small store they seem to carry a little bit of almost everything and, on new comic day, they are the best bet north of the Chicago for what you're looking for. Other stores around the North Shore are way to selective about their stock and mostly function as card gaming halls if a few beat-up comics on the shelf. But that's not the case with Comix Revolution. It really is the place to go when the focus of your geekdom is on story and art. read more

If you're keeping up with recent series, this is definitely the place to go. Finding older issues might be a problem though. They also have tons of shirts, figurines, etc. Very cool. read more

Very nice place. The store is meticulously organized and very clean, though it doesn't feel very cozy (might be the wood floors). The staff is very nice, though you have to be the one to start the conversation. Not a big deal, but when I first started going there my awkwardness was compounded by no one breaking the silence. They have lots of titles, though you won't find much old stuff in the back issues. They do have a ton of books too, some pretty neat indie stuff as well. Lots of toys, shirts, etc. as well. Once I broke the ice I found the staff to be knowledgeable as well, which is a big plus, especially when it comes to recommendations. read more

When I was living in Palatine I visited Comix Revoution fairly often! The staff was always helpful, they had good music playing throughout the store, and the selection was wonderful. I am a big fan of indie comics and could always find was I was looking for and then some! read more

No one offered to be of any service while my son and I were looking to make a purchase.
