Review Visit: October 28th, 2015 They have Games PLUS other things! Ha. Ha. Ha.... On my quest to visit all the nerdy stores in Illinois and eventually the USA, Games Plus was a pleasant stop. They sell board games, Magic: the Gathering cards, D&D supplies and many other things that I can't recall the names of. Think of those little figures that you play a tabletop game with. It was a quick visit for me as I was heading up to Chicago for an event, but I really liked the store. The cashier was super friendly, the prices were decent and they had soooo much stuff to look at. I did see some clearance Magic cards on my way out, but I was on a budget and couldn't get them. Magic cards are never on clearance, so it was definitely a missed opportunity. Great place if you need a board game fix or just need some supplies for your games. Sadly, I was in and out so quick that I didn't get to snap any photos aside from the selfie seen above. read more

While visiting the Chicago area to visit family on a recent vacation, I visited Games Plus. It is an amazing store in downtown Mt. Prospect with a large selection of board games, miniatures, and hobby supplies. If I lived in the area this would be my go to gaming store! They also have a large room with lots of gaming tables, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a clean restroom. Highly recommended! In my humble opinion, Games Plus is one of the best, if not the best, gaming store I have had the pleasure to stumble across. The proprietors know their stock, as well as their customers, because they enjoy the same worlds of gaming that their customers do. Be it it war games, RPGs, fantasy games, historical recreation games, or any other form of table top gaming, Games Plus either has it, or can get it. They even have auctions of vintage and out of print game books and materials periodically. Games Plus and it's proprietors receive the absolute highest marks I can give. I don't go in many games stores these days, but this one is phenomenal. The sheer amount of games they have is pretty impressive, but all the other paraphernalia puts it over the top. I've never played here, but they have a large room for Magic, tabletop games etc. in the back room, plus a small table in front for demonstrating and congregating. My wife is really into games and wants to get new games for the kids all the time. The employees are always helpful finding games for their age/skill level. I wish I had this place when I was young and still had time to play games today. read more

Though I am not a gamer myself, I came here with my favorite gamer, with whom I have gone to similar shops before. This store is a lot bigger than you'd expect it to be from the outside, and is bursting with stuff! Unlike other places where they can special order items for you but they don't keep a lot on hand, this place was exploding with stock to look at. Prices tend to be marked up a bit high but the miniature selection is unparalleled. They have a loyalty program which helps if you are really into miniature painting and ttrpgs but since your points expire after a while I was not able to capitalize on this before the allotted timeframe and my points went bye bye. read more

I love this store. I have been coming here since I was a little girl and it hasn't changed! I'm here all the time and have great conversations with the people who own/work at the business. They have just about everything I have ever needed for miniature painting, custom figure building, dungeons and dragons, cards games, and board games + more. They are always willing to look for an item for me or custom order it. On many occasions I have gone to other stores thinking "no, games plus wont have this, that's impossible!" And sure enough they have it and half the time have options! Check games plus before running elsewhere, I know I do now and it always saves an extra trip!! read more

As an unabashed gamer geek I think gaming stores are among the most important stores around. I stood in Games Plus tonight browsing and making small talk with the owner Rich and the counter help for the evening Bob. Two honest, good nerds like myself who loved all things gaming and were passionate about their pursuits. Back and forth geeks of all ages fluttered, some old and some young, some with kids of their own and it struck me: Real, honest-to-goodness gaming can and should never die. Pen and paper, dice tossing gaming. That stuff binds generations together. Connects parents to kids and siblings to one another and strengthens the bonds of friendship like nothing on earth can. What else can you do with people where you rely on their cunning and smarts, their good judgement and instincts? Creativity and their fearless pursuit of self-enrichment? It might seem melodramatic but there's something irreplaceable about sitting around a table lined with junk food and Mountain Dew slaying ogres with your ogre slaying knife (it's got a +9 against ogres!) and not giving two craps what the outside world thinks or says. Real, honest-to-goodness gaming that is threatened every day by Call of Duty, Black Ops and a bevy of other online options that rob us of that camaraderie and connection, replaced by solitude and weak social bonds. No, real gaming has to live on and watching the folks coming and going tonight drives that home all the more. Games Plus is outrageously important. It's big, well stocked with games from every corner of the planet and then some and their dedication and attention to detail is second to none. They have plenty of room for people to sit down and try out the new wares they've bought and parking is plentiful and free. It's next to the Metra for the carless city dwellers and close to lots of food options so you won't perish during whatever epic session you find yourself in. In this Xboxed, Wii'd out world where oftentimes kids are segregated from their parents it's places like Games Plus that will serve as our salvation and deliver us from the ills that tear us apart. Great place to go if you know what you are looking for. Not much tolerance and patience is offered to those who are experimenting or testing the waters. The selection and overall amount of product they have is huge! If you are a mini painter then you will enjoy the walls of tiny little men. They even have BOOBarians! Then there is the OTHER room. I still have not dared to go in there because I fear that even I don't have the geek cred to go in there. I have heard shouts of "crits" and cries of "EPIC FAILS" coming from the bowels of this room. I fear that if I do open the door, I would be faced with hissing beings that resemble cave-creatures. Pale and Blind from lack of exposure to natural light! The staff (who are ALSO gamers) are friendly, helpful and very knowledgable. They also have a separate room filled with large tables for gaming. Tables can be reserved. The store also hosts events that they list on their website and in the store. These events include tournaments, demos, auctions, and special gaming events. Games plus has an amazing selection of just about every game under the sun. Its easily the best of any game shop I've personally been to. They have a friendly staff, and even have a large game room in back. They are kind enough to stay late and let people game after normal store hours. The run an auction a couple times a year that is a great chance to pick up some stuff cheap and get rid of your old games. The one issue the prevents me giving a 5 star is that they never can get anything I order in. I've put in orders and waited literally months for things. Things I could have ordered online cheap and had in under a week. So I stick to buying in stock stuff. read more

This is a great store to shop for anything gaming. ANYTHING! I have bought many a many mini's to paint there (GEEK ALERT!) The walls of minis are great to peruse with thoughts of conversions and color schemes. They also have an extensive stock of most games out there and even some things that are no longer in production. From board games to racks of rule books, and even an extensive selection of Osprey Military History books. These books are incredible little studies on military action, costume, and custom through the ages. War is hell, but it makes an interesting read. In back, there is a gaming space with loads of tables in the back, as well as a nice selection of sugary and chocolaty goodness sure to invigorate and enbiggen any and all a gamer. If you have any questions about anything gaming related, someone on the staff or in the store will be able to answer your question. There is a frequent buyer program that tracks your purchase amounts and you get $10 off after making a certain amount of purchases over time. I forget the exact amount though. Easy to get to even from deep in the city, although it takes a little time. Easy parking, and a nice afternoon browse if you are looking for a new game to play. read more

Outstanding selection, true dedication to the hobby, and fantastic customer service are the hallmarks of this store. I make it a point to try to get out here once every couple of months. On my last visit I was after whatever Heroclix they had left in stock, so I called ahead (it's a 45 minute drive from where I live) to make sure they still had anything after WizKids bit the dust earlier this year. The guy I talked to was extremely helpful, and went and personally checked what they had available, and offered to hold anything I wanted until I could get there. When I got there, everything was set aside, including a few things he had dug up that he thought I might be interested in, and he was correct. That is the kind of service that keeps me buying from places like Games Plus instead of doing my shopping online. The back room is awesome, and I have met people there for friendly and casual games of D&D Miniatures and Clix. There are strange and terrible bellows often emanating from men twice my age playing games which look hopelessly complicated and swearing in the most imaginative ways possible when the dice hit the table. Nonetheless, they are often happy to allow myself or my nine year old son to observe (provided he does not touch anything, of course) and will even make attempts at explaining arcane and nefarious rule systems to me. The owners have all kinds of sponsored and freeform tournaments for every game imaginable and the place is generally just a hub for hobbyists. There are a lot of the steretypical gamer types in here, but I've encountered every type of person on my visits to this store from punk-rock dudes, to beutiful women to lost-looking Lakeview bros. It's a Chicagoland destination for anyone even half-interested in geeking out for an afternoon. Bonus: It's way out in Mt. Prospect where the chances of any of your normal friends finding out you're a nerd by happenstance are relatively low. Game on! read more

Roleplaying is a strange hobby. Back in the 80's, while a few malls like the Century had a Gamer's Paradise, their selection was meager to say kind things about them. When I first got my car, I took a drive out to Mount Prospect to find Games Plus. I of course got lost several times but eventually managed to find it. When I did, it was a strange sensation. It was like looking at a madman's collection of all things gaming related. When younger, I didn't much care for board games, and while I enjoyed miniatures, I wasn't as enthralled with them as I am today. But even then, I could tell that this place was special. Filled with a wide vareity of role playing material and with more games, dice and magazines than you can swing a stick at, Games Plus has been on my shopping list despite the advent of online speicalized stores. Games Plus not only has a huge selection of material, but they have a gaming room as well. This is perfect for those gamers who don't necessarily have a regular gaming ground but you need to check out the schedules and arrange things, preferably ahead of time. Perhaps just as important is their gaming auction held a few times a year. If you think you have materials that you will no longer use, its time to put them in the auction. While it normally pays in store credit, as expensive as the hobby can be today, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Games Plus is a great store with a huge selection and a talkative staff that's friendly and more than willing to do preorders or special orders for their customers. Their backlog of inventory is also impressive with issues of Dragon magazine from times of yore as well as a selection of older material. read more

Great selection, good customer service, and usually an amusing experience if anyone else is wandering about. Sometimes theyll even invite you to sit for a game with them if theyre just starting one up. Sadly, I'm too anti-social to even socialize with board game nerds...so I've never taken the invite. They have a frequent buyer card of sorts thats perfect for my bf, who cant seem to stop buying board games. I'm not quiiite nerdy enough to fully appreciate the massive selection of miniatures and whatnot, but I do understand just by being there that many people would like what they see. Good stop if you're in the area. They have, well, everything. Prices are fair--the vintage or out of print stuff in stock is obviously priced a bit higher but it's still not bad. If these guys don't have what you want, they'll check to see if they can order it. If not, they'll certainly show you a handful of alternatives (in the case of model building, etc). It's great to see a shop like this still in existence. As far as I can tell, Games Plus is still going strong, too. They've got just about every kind of paper-and-pencil game you could as for. Lots of miniature war gaming, too. Chessex dice, specialty dice, a tub full of 40¢ 20-sided, and various other oddities. I found a seven-die set of pewter dice at Games Plus, of which I promptly purchased. If they don't have it, they can probably get it for you. They go beyond just shelves filled with all kinds of awesome stuff. They host auctions, have an enormous game room, offer a savings program for frequent buyers, and can easily talk your ear off about any game out there. read more

One of the best gaming hobby stores I've found. Their selection of current popular games, as well as lesser known games/miniature lines, is excellent. They have plenty of quality hobby supplies available too. The staff is friendly and eager to interact with the customers, and the customer loyalty program rewards frequent shoppers. They also have a nice open gaming area stocked with plenty of terrain for wargamers to come in and throw down. I've enjoyed my recent visits to this store for shopping and open gaming. When I first got into 40k this place was my first stop! Although their pricing for games workshop products is full retail (other retailers offer a 10%-20% discount) I still buy models from them occasionally. The real reason I love this place is the modeling and hobby supplies. They have literally everything you could want or need. Different brands of paint, lots of brushes, terrain, hobby tools, literally everything you need. Their prices on this stuff are very reasonable as well! I buy all my paint and painting supplies from here! They also have a big game room with several tables for all kinds of table top games. It is free to play and they have cabinets full of awesome terrain to plan on! Staff is always super helpful and they are cool guys to shoot the breeze with!
