Absolutely, doubtlessly the best Italian food we have had in Reno. I am a transplant from NYC (Lower East Side with easy access to Brooklyn), so I know good Italian. The ambiance is welcoming & serene in this lovely, large & well laid-out space; we were promptly greeted by a young woman who said to sit anywhere--not in a dismissive way but in a manner that suggested we could sit anywhere we felt most comfortable. Then we met Spencer Armstrong, the amazing chef/owner who genuinely wants to know how he could improve our experience. Well, Spencer, if you're reading this, I'm meeting two colleagues here in a few days--so you know how happy I am with your establishment. Attached to a Best Western, we ate there for 2 nights and the food was excellent. Lots of Italian food, as well as other stuff. We always had the calamari appetizers and they were perfect. Then we had pasta dishes which also were super good. Price is about average to other restaurants. Owner is very nice and so is the waitress. We had a young hispanic new mother who was super nice and welcoming. She remembered us from the night before and stopped and talk to us. Were new to Reno/Sparks. We wandered into Gambi's during our stay in Reno at the connected best Western hotel. We went for a quick bite and had our expectations raised due to the excellent level of service care and quality of the dishes. Our 5 year old was wearing the cheese all over his face from the generous kids portion of their homemade Mac and cheese meal. Our picky 7 year old devoured her hamburger ( it was perfectly juicy and full of flavor) and our 8 year old that only ever orders spaghetti sauce this was the "best spaghetti she's had yet. " The appetizer of the coconut shrimp tasted like they grilled it in actual coconut and not just a sprinkling of coconut flakes. It was a delicious way to start our meal. Then I ordered the lobster ravioli which was packed full of shredded lobster and served in a white wine cream sauce with fresh sage as the perfect garnish. Lobster dishes can be too creamy or rich for me and this one was the perfect balance in my opinion. My husband ordered the lasagna and it was authentic and fresh. We don't normally order dessert but with how satisfied we were with the meal we had to try it out. My 5 year old son had the chocolate chip canolli ( which I tasted and the shell was reminiscent of a churro with a crunch you could tell was freshly baked , the cream was well balanced with the not too sweet but just right ricotta filling) . My daughters shared the chocolate gelato and it was as delicious as gelato always is ( I don't believe I've ever had a bad gelato) my husband and I shared a chocolate Carmel Kahlua cake. ....this cake was divine and tasted like a fresh souffle warmed in the oven. It was eaten to the last crumb and it paired perfectly with the house made vanilla gelato scoop it was swerved with. We didn't expect to want to write a review before arriving at Gambi's but it was just too wonderful of an experience not too. From the ambiance of an all out up classed pirates hideout to the owner and his son taking time to introduce themselves. This is a 5 star we wishing we could add diamonds to the review rating because this place is a gem! read more

The food here is very good. I had the Chicken parmigiana with vegetables and everything was cooked perfectly. The Tiramisu was excellent. Full disclosure was stating in the hotel (Best Western) , with my dog, so took food to go. The staff was very dog friendly allowing me to wait at a table by the host stand. read more

Food was delicious, and service was outstanding. Hubby had chicken parm, which he said was very good. I had the personal sized pizza, which was delicious and enough for 2 people. This is definitely a place you go to for the first time experience, but I don't think I would willingly make this place a regular visit. Or really ever visit again. It was a very large mess. We had a party of five for Mother's Day which also happened to be my mother's birthday. We were all looking forward to this experience but even from the get go it started off really rough. Our server had very little server etiquette and was not very efficient in working, as well as the other employees. One of the other male servers actually straight up yelled at our waitress as she was attempting to take our order. We got there around 6pm and ended up being there until the restaurant closed. It was a mess. To start, it took 10 minutes for a drink order to be placed, and almost 20 more minutes for the three special ordered drinks that weren't water to arrive. I was given something completely different from what I ordered from the menu because the bartender and waitress had no idea what it was that I asked for. We also ordered a bourbon that had an entire orange slice in it and small ice which is incorrect for a proper bourbon. It took over an hour for us to get our food order placed in and then after that, it was the game of waiting. The employees were running around with their heads cut off like chickens and yelling at one another and scrambling, they also walked by our table multiple times and acknowledged empty water glasses without offering to refill and never heard us when we went to ask for a refill. We didn't get our food until about 9pm and yet had witnessed other people around us who arrived after us get their appetizers and food way quicker. The employees tried to compensate by giving complimentary bread and whatnot which was appreciated, but it definitely didn't make up for much. We are very patient people and did not lash out or try to send anything back. But the cooks couldn't even make a simple salad correctly, we asked for a salad without goat cheese and then two hours after asking for it, it still had goat cheese and then they didn't even have the cheese originally requested in replacement. The food quality itself was tasty and cooked well, but the portions were poor and small and we all agreed by the end of the night that we could've made the same meals at home for less. It was a pretty big bummer. We had heard so much good about this place but were given a very mediocre experience. It was very loud and there was a lot of noise going on as well, especially from the employees yelling at one another. Our waitress was a sweetheart and I pity her for how she got treated. We were compensated with some free deserts and whatnot but this is definitely a one and done place. I hope that things change eventually. It is a place with some good potential, just more so in the far future and not now. 300 dollars for a multiple hours long experience of playing the waiting game isn't something I think should be part of a average dining experience. read more

WOW! I've been meaning to try Gambis for quite some time and I feel silly for waiting so long. What an amazing place, from the food to the ambience, everything was fantastic. The vibe was was fun and inviting from the get go. We were greeted promptly and warmly. We started with the stuffed mushrooms and calamari, both scrumptious. We then had rib eyeand chicken marmalade, both off the chart good. We both finished with the Tiramusu. The service was impeccable. This will be a place I will return to soon. We went on a Fri night around 6pm. We didn't have a reservation. It was gonna be up to a 45 min wait. We asked about sitting at the bar. There were seats open. We had front row seating to the bartender. He was way over worked. Although he never did mention that. He was making custom ordered drinks, ringing up bar food orders, helping wait staff deliver food, fetching to go containers for doggy bags, bussing the bar area. Way too much for one person. I heard food runners say there were some unexpected larger parties. The trick is to have enough staff to cover all areas in case there are unexpected larger parties at any given time. I guess I'm just a pushover when it comes to over worked staff. My brother has been a head chef as well as multiple kitchen titles for the last 40 yrs! I know how quickly he has gotten burned out by being over worked. More pay doesn't necessarily cut it, when there is just too much to handle for one person. My husband and I LOVED our dinners. I had tortellini with alfredo sauce and he had lasagna. We ordered an appetizer but it never came. The bartender was gonna pull it off the bill but instead we opted for a to go order of a dessert. The cheesecake was yummy! We will try dining in again mid week to see how it goes. I'm sure the food will be delicious!! read more

Don't let the fact that this restaurant is in the same complex as the Best Western fool you! this is truly a diamond in the rough. As soon as you enter you feel you are brought into a fairytale, dark ambience with skulls and candles and a thrown made of a skeleton! Our server, Obed, was very personable and helpful. He anticipated our needs before we even said them. The food was exquisite. My husband got the Ribeye and I got the Large Scallop Risotto. We started with their spicy stuffed mushrooms. Everything was exquisite! I also had a Lychee Martini that was liovely and their house wines were superb. We even stayed after our meal and played a game of chess! We met the owner, Dave. Now that they have moved to their new location it's much easier to find so that's great! Got there yesterday around 4:30 for an early dinner, stood at the counter for a few minutes after ringing the bell?? Had to walk over to the bar and ask if we seat ourselves but then a waitress came and grabbed us, probably a good idea to always have a hostess there to greet and welcome people when they come in especially locals. The place is huge and still nicely decorated like a pirate style which is like their prior spot. Our server Taylor was very nice and attentive. The mushroom apps were yummy just a little spicy but good, you now can get hot bread (free refills) with balsamic and olive oil. I had the Caesar salad with shrimp and my husband had the chicken parm, our son had the penne vodka and said it was great as well as the chicken parm. It would be nice if the front door to the restaurant was open so you didn't have to enter through the Best Western hotel lobby and I think if they put a sign on the sidewalk somewhere to advertise it that might help to attract people because where they are at has been so many different places people probably just drive by without noticing.
