Galaxy Cafe is truly out of this world!! Starting with the amazing decorations and red painted walls with tiny mirrors everywhere. Then the food is truly lightyears ahead of anything in the area! They have an unusual Mexican Lime soup that is delish, also their wraps are oh so tasty, especially the steak wrap with Chimichuri sauce. I wish I had known about this place sooner. I will most certainly be rerouting my orbit home so I can land at this place more often. read more

There is a strong mildew scent throughout the restaurant and it has been like that for since the last time I went there about 4 months ago. They really need to do something about that asap. Awesome service, well run establishment. The food is pretty good here, as are the prices, but what I love is the customer service. For a counter service restaurant, customer service is often overlooked. One evening I picked up food from Galaxy- only to find that my order was incorrect when I got home. When I arrived back to pick up my corrected order, I found that they had already refunded my credit card and the manager personally came out to apologize, and I found a complimentary dessert as well as a coupon for another free entree in my corrected order. They certainly won me over by taking these extra steps. I will definitely be back. read more

I only ever get one thing when I go here. A Fireman's Four and the chimichurri steak wrap with sweet potato fries. It is always delish. I recently tried their pasta salad side, and it was also excellent. Well-seasoned, well-balanced, and I love the kalamata olives. The servers are always friendly and helpful (I've been to all 3 of their locations) and the food is always served fresh and hot. Someone take me to Galaxy ASAP! It's so cute randomly wedged into a shopping center that has Brick house, AT&T, and a Baskin Robbins. The decor is nifty and the service is quick. This was my first time at Galaxy. They had a good menu and I decided to have the grilled chicken sandwich, with avocado (it's a theme this year), bacon, mozzarella, tomato, all on a wheat bun. And you have a choice of sides, french fries, sweet potato fries, salads, mac-n-cheese...all of it. I love mac-n-cheese and it's something that is not easily delicious for some reason. It's pasta, butter, cheese...but some how people seem to muck it all up. So mac-n-cheese it is! Dudes, the mac-n-cheese was one of the best I have had this year. No shit. I do not joke about food, this is serious. The sammy was okay. The bacon was crisp, the cheese was fresh mozzarella (a nice touch), tomato fresh and the bun toasted and soft. Oh but the chicken. It was cold, dry and not flavorful. One boo. But I just picked it off and ate a California BLT hold the L. It was great and I ate this whole plate. Yes, I am going running for like 6 miles in the morning, but it was all too good. I am a fan and would definitely eat there again. I vaguely remember having an off eating experience there a while back, so when my roommate suggested that we re-visit them recently I was against it. Holy-moley, am I glad we went back! The special of the day were barbequed ribs, mashed potatoes, and something else. I haven't been here in a while and my memories of were A-ok so i went back for lunch and... same result its still A-Ok. The good: Its located close to my home. Its clean I like the mod decor and the dim lights Good service The Meh: It takes a while to get your food The food is a little overpriced Sometimes dishes are bland I got a veggie wrap and there was little to no seasoning on the veggies, it made for a so-so bland wrap. The tortilla soup was very good and had the right amount of spice. My fellow lunch goer had the chicken Parmesan sandwich on ciabatta and that was very yummy. The mac and cheese he got was also excellent. This kind of made me want to switch plates, but I kept my composure. So order away, watch out thought there may be some plate switchin' going on. read more

I love the options of the menu, but when food is brought out it's usually cold and is disappointing. French fries are cold every single time- every time! The prices are expensive for American food. You'd expect that it would be exceptionally good, but it is the opposite-disappointing ever single time I go. Management needs to step it up. This location needs improvement and needs to start paying attention to the reviews on yelp. I've always loved the Galaxy and the only reason I take off a star is that for the price, I wish I could have table service. I am very lucky that my job basically requires I wine and dine clients and I would come here much more if it weren't for the awkward moments when we have to make small talk while waiting in line. But today I met a client who is also a friend and we both enjoyed the most amazing gluten free fish wrap. I've had some terrific fish wraps in my day, including some pretty fab ones in Hawaii. So when I say this is a great wrap- I mean it. The fish is light and flaky and I loved the slaw and jalapeno dipping sauce. But the best part was the fantastic GF rice flour tortilla. I liked this tortilla way more than flour. It was soft and chewy and so satisfying that it took some restraint to keep form gobbling the whole thing down in a few bites. I may just have to sock it up and go eat there more even if it means waiting in line as their gluten free menu is very impressive and thoughtful. I can't say enough about the breakfast. Pretty much everything we have had is great. The French toast and French press coffee is delicious. The sides are also very good, especially the sweet potatoes. I have to say though, the entrées were pretty lack luster. My husband's steak was overcooked and my turkey and brie sandwhich was a disappointment. It was bready, with way too little fig and what I would consider grocery-store-level turkey. All in all, if you are in the area for dinner I would make it a consideration, but it's definitely worth a drive for breakfast! On another note, I was also a little put out to realize they wouldn't accept my groupon unless I used the entire value at one time. I had been working on my yard all day and lost track of time--then got real hungry and realized my fridge was empty. I called Galaxy South at 10:00pm on a Saturday night. They had just closed, but the man who answered the phone graciously told me that they may be able to make me something to pick up. I really appreciated that. I picked it up and brought it home, expecting to get some end-of-day kitchen scraps. Instead, the sandwich was hot and tasty, and the vegetables tasted fresh as could be. After a long Saturday, most restaurants will simply tell you they're closed. Galaxy's service and food quality earns them 5 stars. read more

They will even put it in a to go cup for you...and it's the best iced coffee in way south Austin that I have found too. Definitely good grub for a good price. Stopped in for dinner tonight, and for exactly $20 ($10, actually with groupon), we got two sides and an entree. I had the turkey meatloaf, which I found very herby and not heavily weighted with bread crumbs, which I like. I was not too crazy about as much marinara sauce, which topped the dish. The meat loaf was good enough on its own not to slather it in sauce. Fresh veggie sides with no additives, and a lovely Mexican lime soup - basically chicken soup with lots of lime juice. Very fanciful. Hubby had a turkey burger, which he gobbled down (get it? Turkey... gobble?) along with a fresh side salad with a fairly bland dressing and fries. Great for breakfast, but get there early or late to beat the big rush. Love the special plates, particularly the Mediterranean breakfast. The eggs are always cooked perfectly, and they have great bread as well. I have to go on a rant here, though. I am not liking their recent switch to a new, more environmentally-friendly tea. The new steep container is cool, but the brew is weak, and there is something just plain wrong about hot tea in a tall glass. I want my breakfast tea strong and in a mug or teacup. My boyfriend and I stopped here for breakfast around 10:30am on a Saturday and they were moderately busy. By the time we left, there was a line from the counter to the door. I had read some good reviews from Yelp on this place so I decided to try it out. Personally, I wasn't that wowed, but my boyfriend really liked it. I have a restricted diet and asked if I could just have an extra egg in my breakfast rather than the other stuff, and the girl said that they couldn't do that. My request actually made the meal cheaper rather than more expensive for them to produce with me paying the same price, and I wasn't asking them to go out of their way to add something completely different. So I tell the girl to just leave my sides off, and she asks my boyfriend if he wants them instead. I didn't hear any of that, so when my plate comes out, I've got the sides on it anyway. I'm still giving this place what I would consider a decent rating because everyone there was nice (though not very accommodating by my first experience). The place had a nice ambiance and was clean. I ordered the ham omelette which was OK, but nothing spectacular. For the same money, you can get a much bigger omelette from other places like Kerbey or Magnolia and with two sides. The toast was a very nice thick sliced bread and came out with an assortment of mini jam jars. The drip coffee wasn't that good, but it wasn't any worse than Kerbey's or Magnolia's either. Galaxy Cafe is one of my favorite local places to eat in my neighborhood. I love that the portions are not huge, usually, and they have healthy options! The prices are moderate. My favorite to order is their Turkey Burger! The bun is so yummy and the seasoning they use for their turkey burger is very very good. I also love ordering their Bacon and Mozarella chicken sandwich, it is soooo yummy. You must try the sweet potato fries! Their coffee is never bad, either. If you happen to make it for breakfast, oh my God you cannot pass up trying their French Toastttttt. I recently ran a half marathon and afterwards all I wanted was their Deluxe French Toast, they serve with bananas and strawberries. Heaven!! The decorations and layout is very cool, it makes for a wonderful atmosphere, very comfortable. Free wifi doesn't hurt either. Try it!! read more

Being the beer snob that I am, I wish they had a few local draft beers to compliment the bottle selection. Yea, me and the lady stopped by here last night. This being the 'burbs it's got a different feel than some of the other Galaxy Cafe's may give. Mostly families, and a baby cry here and there, but nothing that really hurts the eating experience. The place is dressed up nice and it's very comfortable to sit in. Clean too. I tried the brie burger with grilled onions and was very happy. There's something classy about having gooey brie running down your hand...way more classy than just your standard american cheese. The quality of everything was pretty good. I was disapointed my brie burger didn't come with tomato and the greens that did come were a little wilted. That's fine except I feel a place that prides itself on ingredients, and charges extra for them too, aught to set the bar higher for itself. just under $25 for the lady and I to have our meals and a beer apiece...not too bad. The service was good and the food despite my small foibles about the lettuce and lack of tomato was uber tasty. would go again if I was in the area. Beats the pants off Maudies or brick oven fan fare for sure. read more

Been going to Galaxy forever now; I used to work right near this one. Always a solid safe pick for any meal. I have literally eaten every meal here and never been dissatisfied. Plenty of options for here to to go to suit everyone (kiddos too), any time of day (open everyday 7am-10pm). Light, airy, and a hint of Jetson's, the atmosphere is as though you are in an Ikea set. You order at the counter (get a cowboy cookie for later, trust me), take a little placecard, and have a seat. Recommendations/tips: Breakfast: Mediterranean breakfast, or build your own wrap. Open at 7am (!) and brunch is served ntil 4pm on weekends. Lunch: Shrimp salad if you want to splurge, otherwise I like the fish wrap (love the jalapeno lime ranch-like sauce) with gluten free-tortilla* or the Club wrap plus sweet potato fries. Dinner: Ok, it turns out I have never eaten off the dinner menu, I always get something from the lunch menu (also available at dinner time) *Bonus points: They have lots of gluten free options if desired, as in, a whole seperate menu! They also serve booze and have happy hour with specials on food and drink. Doesn't always come to mind first, but again, always a solid choice. read more

- Great food - A little expensive - Interesting/unique decor This place is pretty cool. I've had the chicken and bacon sandwich which was delicious and the Asian Tuna salad, which was also really good. They ask you up front if it's okay that the tuna only be seared and not really cooked. I said yes and regretted it after receiving my food. It didn't really taste like anything and I don't really like eating raw fish that I can see. But my friend got some shrimp salad with sweet honey dressing which was delicious. The turkey club wrap is also really good. The sweet potato fries are a must try. I don't even like sweet potatoes and I like these. The decor of this place is really cool. The circular mirrors all over the walls make me feel like there are two other rooms on the other side of each inner wall and makes it seem more spacious. There is definitely a "spacey" feel to this place. Kids might like it but sound sort of echoes in here and noisy kids become more annoying than usual. :o/ Their chocolate torte is delicious but VERY rich. It is a little expensive for the food though, so I bumped it down a star. read more

Galaxy Cafe is the perfect answer to the question I keep asking myself: Where I can I get fresh, veggie-filled meals in Austin? Especially down south, where fast food and chains dominate over local restaurants . The first time I went to Galaxy I got a grilled veggie wrap and turkey chili. They were both extremely tasty. After my meal, I didn't feel the normal tex-mex bloat or the typical 'why do I punish myself like this' guilt that I experience so often in Austin. I've also gotten the Stuffed Portabello and that too was very tasty- but I'd suggest swapping out the Israeli Couscous for another side- it really left something to be desired. The greek salad is good too, but I wish they served it with a classic greek dressing. All in all, I'd say if you're in the Brodie area and you feel like something lighter than the normal grease and cheese, go to Galaxy. read more
