It's been great seeing legit ramen shops popping up in Ft. Collins over the past few years. I haven't patronized Gaku as much as I might like because Old Town parking! Yes, I know there is a paid parking garage not far away, but I dunno. When some of the other ramen shops have ample free parking it is a bit of a turn-off. If I do happen to be passing through Old Town near lunch time I will sometimes take a little detour to see if I can find street parking, and today I happened to score a spot on Linden St. so yay! I was really craving cold noodles for lunch so I stopped in to get some Hiyashi Chuka for take-out. I came in just after noon so I was expecting that there would be a lunch crowd, but the place was empty! Kinda sad, I've enjoyed the food in the past and it has a nice ambiance - I would have stayed if I didn't need to rush home for a conference call - but maybe people wait for happy hour (which starts at 2:00 on Fridays). But, as it was I just ordered at the bar and was on my way in 10 minutes. The Hiyashi Chuka is so satisfying during these heat advisory days - cold noodles with a soy and I think sesame oil dressing, topped with chicken, cucumbers, rolled egg, and pickled ginger. I recommend it! Their Japanese cucumbers are also good as I recall, though I didn't get them this time because it would have been too much food for lunch. If you're wanting ramen even though it has been scorching hot lately I recommend the miso ramen - the dollop of miso butter makes it so so unctuous and delicious. I've heard that the vegetarian ramen is good, too. read more

Stopped in for lunch and had a nice time. The pork gyoza was yummy and they had like an all day happy hour or something going on so it was $1 each! Great deal! The gentleman working was very nice and patient with us. The restaurant was cute and had a calming atmosphere! We will be back! read more

Trying this place on a whim Saturday afternoon , omg the broth is 10/10, noodle is delish perfect temperature (some may prefer it hotter) and ready to eat. Shoyu chicken, will try the spicy shrimp shoyu next time . This place is tucked at Linden street and you may missed it when strolling old down town Fort Collins. We chose this restaurant as it is well appointed in a quaint area that was walking distance from my hotel. We got the Karaage as an appetizer which was fried well and had a decent subtle flavor. I got the chicken shoyu for my entree and, although I tried to enjoy it, the onions overpowered the dish and I was unable to finish it. I loved that they served reasonably priced mocktails. I DoorDashed from here. I got the chicken shoyu. My noodles were completely raw. They were all clumped together and still doughy. My chicken was so burnt it was black. It was basically an inedible meal. Such a shame cause I had heard good things and was really wanting some ramen. I don't think I'll be trying this again. Went in with low expectations based on all the mixed reviews, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. I ordered the spicy shrimp ramen-- Consistency of the noodles were spot on. Nice chewiness. Broth was not overwhelming, which I appreciated. Shrimp had a nice kick. Way too heavy on the raw onions and bamboo shoots, overpowers the dish. Karaage - 7/10 Really salty, but if you add the sauce it evens out. Grew on me more as I ate it, started to get a lot more of the umami as I ate. Tasted kind of like the chicken ramen powder haha. Looks really good aesthetically. Tunkotsu - 7.5/10 Really umami, I love the broth. The pork belly is a bit odd but the green onion, bamboo shoots, and noodles work well. The flavor balances out well, wish I got the egg. Tastes kind of like mexican cueritos if you've ever had it. Chicken Soyu - 6.5/10 Similar to the Tunkotsu, but with chicken. I prefer the Tunkotsu despite not liking pork. The taste is more subtle and has less umami and overall flavor. read more

We had shashito papers and the Japanese cucumbers as appetizers and a tonkatsu and I can't remember the name of the other soup. Each one was super flavorful. Do not eat here if you want a decent bowl of ramen. My girlfriends bowl of ramen was cold and the soft boiled egg that was extra was also completely cold on the inside as if they took it from the walk in fridge and put it in the soup right before it was served. My broth and pork tasted like nothing. The noodles also had a strange taste that made both of us feel sick. Service was pretty decent but when it comes to the quality of the food it was terrible. It Made me feel like this was one of those Millennial burger places that serves overpriced food that you see get clowned on social media. We've heard nothing but good things about Gaku Ramen, so we were excited to visit tonight in the brisk 26° weather. We drank hot camomile tea and shared a starter of edamame. The edamame bowl is well sized and warmed. I ordered a salmon fried rice bowl. In addition to salmon on top, there are small bites throughout. My husband ordered the chicken shoyu ramen, which was delicious! The noodles are nice and thick, and the broth is delicious. We enjoyed our evening -- quiet night, solid service, and delicious food. Finally found a place to get great Raman Fort Collins. Had an early dinner which included the GAKU pork buns and KARAAGE Japanese style fried chicken as appetizers. Both were delicious, seasoned perfectly. We got, TONKOTSU Ramen, the best broth I've had in a very long time, the beer and wine selection was excellent. Service was great. Went with my daughter as we were visiting Fort Collins for the first time. The Ramen was so very good!
