The Good: Friendly service and decent breakfast. The Greek omelette was light and fluffy and the home fries were delicious. The Bad: The coffee was weak and left a bad aftertaste in my mouth. Please make the coffee STRONG! Who likes weak coffee? The Weird: The sales tax on the bill came out to 16.64%. Sales tax in Prince William County is only 10%. I had to ask the owner (I assume she was the owner). Apparently, they combine the sales tax and the credit card fee on one line, but don't explain that anywhere. Memo to the owner: These need to be on two different line items on the receipt! Be transparent with your customers. They give a discount when paying with cash, which is nice, but it does not equal the additional 6.64%. So either they're really bad at math or they're keeping something from us. Was in town for a wedding, after the Batchelor party was craving some diner food and choose Gainsville Diner. The food was bountiful, probably one of the largest omlettes I have ever had with quality ingredients. However the service was poor at best. Was seated and tried to order coffee but hostess didn't put it in. Then had to ask for service a couple times to place order. Even after ordering it took another 5 minutes to get coffee and even longer for the water. Once the food was out we didn't see our waitress again and had to keep flagging down other staff. It seemed like multiple employees just walked around with tablets putting in things to do but noone was doing the tasks. Maybe its better then less than half full... still good food so at least not a total loss. read more

The outside looks pretty worn down but inside is open spaced and looked clean. Large TV was playing a football game when I was there. And I was the Only customer there the whole time I was there. No take out, curbside or delivery the entire time. I ordered the French Toast breakfast with fried potatoes and 2 scrambled eggs, coffee. Coffee was ok. French toast pretty good. Scrambled eggs were delicious. I'm guessing they used a lot of butter when cooking. I'm not sure but they were prob best scrambled eggs I've had. Potatoes could have used 2 or 3 more min cooking time, but overall a good breakfast. I did order a chicken biscuit to go when I ordered my breakfast but it never arrived. My check was delayed and left me sitting until finally I just got up and went to the counter myself to pay out. When I walked up there, the woman who took my order was sitting there and I said, if the chicken biscuit isn't ready, don't worry about it. I don't need it. Just as I suspected, she made the "O" face and said I'll bet the kitchen didn't cook It yet. She actually popped her head into the kitchen for 1/2 a second and said, no they didn't cook it. BEWARE! Super, I mean SUPER overpriced. I just had my first $30 breakfast this morning, and I've traveled the world and stayed in 5-star hotels along the way. $16 for 2 eggs and corned beef hash, $5 for a side of hash browns, $4 for a glass of OJ and $4 for a glass of milk. No, it did not come with a side of blow (one would think so at that price). Pretty sure I didn't pay that much for a drink at Disneyland! Oh, and then you get SLAMMED with almost 18% in "taxes and fees" up charge. Our jaws literally dropped when they placed the check in the table. $57 and some change for 2 "normal" breakfast meals. Our waitress was SO nice, but there was only 1 other table for most of our meal and yet my water glass wasn't refilled - I can only assume they had her doing more tasks than just waiting our table. 2 of the staff sat at a table behind us and dropped multiple "F-bombs" despite my toddler being in the seat behind them. One staff member sat down at a table, sneezed without covering his nose/mouth, ended up moving tables 2 more times and never bothered to wipe the table afterwards... A customer was seated at the sneezed-on table 10 mins later... We saw at least 2 servers wearing sweatpants with their boxers showing and multiple have AirPods in one of their ears, walking around like they were half asleep. We will not be back. The Gainesville Diner is a relatively new diner in Gainesville, VA. It's been open about 6 weeks now. It's owned by the same folks that own The Marshall Diner in Marshall, VA. The Gainesville Diner is located in the "Gainesville Square" retail complex off of U.S. 29. The Santorini Grill and before that - Nora's Lebanon - occupied this space. Bacon and Eggs, Eggs were normal but a bit on the cool siding from sitting and the 1 piece toast would not melt butter, isn't toast served in two's? Literally the worst place ever. I also spoke with the Assistant Manager and he was no help! He did nothing. The food is gross, customer service is rude, the place is pretty gross and it took over 45 minutes to get our meals. We got one breakfast meal and one lunch meal. The breakfast meal was missing items and the sausage was as hard as the ground. The pancakes were completely burnt. For the burger there was nothing on my sandwich. I asked for all the toppings with extra stuff on it and they basically removed the stuff. It was only a burger and cheese. I also asked for a side salad as my side but they gave me of course the chips only. When I told them again what I ordered the server rolled their eyes. Seriously, I have no idea how this place has a 4.0 review and higher overall. I assume it's a lot of regulars that get the same stuff. When we were there it was a lot of older people so I assume its family members of them leaving reviews. But mine needs to be seen. This place is not good and should not be in business. We eat here multiple times a month. Mostly after events or kids sport games. It's laid-back and that's what you're going to get, very chill and friendly staff. A little off the beaten path. The spot is in the middle of a shopping complex. Your typical greasy diner food. Not sure if what we ordered was atypical for what they usually serve. The food was pretty lackluster. I got the Benedict and the bread tasted a tad old. It was an incredibly small portion for the price and left there hungry, which I don't think I've ever done at a diner. The food also took an exceptionally long time to come out of the kitchen, which seemed odd considering that only a few tables were filled. Other dishes that came out looked a little better, however overheard similar comments from other tables The staff did a great job keeping coffee mugs and water glasses filled. I am not sure why this place doesn't have higher reviews. It's very good! I got the corned beef hash with hash browns. I ordered them both extra crispy and they didn't disappoint. The service was very slow but I am not giving a lower rating for that. The waitress did the best she could. She was the hostess, server, food runner, and busser. She did everything by herself while being friendly to all the regulars that walked in. The hash browns needed salt but otherwise the meal was great. Nice spot I actually found on yelp. I was on vacation and want an inexpensive breakfast place. The location is in a strip mall right off the freeway. We can in to eat on a week day so while most people are at work me and daughter we able to enjoy the food. The waitress was very friendly and there was another customer that seemed like regulars. Being from up north the one thing that caught my eye was they serve scrapple, which I grew up on. Those who don't know need to try one good time. I order the cornbeef hash and eggs over easy with toast and grits and daughter had bacon bagel sandwich. Service was fast and the portions were a nice. Waited at the table 10 minutes to be greeted. Water, orange juice and iced tea took 10 additional minutes. Tea was so sweet my jaw ached. Mixed or half sweet and half unsweetened with lemons to make it drinkable. Some food came out after 30 minutes (omelet, pancakes, toast, sausage, grits, eggs Benedict), crepe was a few minutes later with the French toast showing 10 minutes after the initial run of food was delivered and a full 40 minutes after we ordered. Pancakes had some green drizzle on top and a few scattered candies on the plate-not sure what any of that was. Benedict were ok-not the best. Grits were paste like and unsalted. French toast was buried under Cinnamon. The smell was so strong my dining partners could taste it with their food. Took 10 minutes to see a server. I am allergic to cinnamon and it was not mentioned on the menu and with strawberry and banana topping, it didn't seem like a good flavor combination so I didn't ask about it. Server finally noticed and there was a guy with a headset standing there who overhead the entire conversation when I told her I couldn't eat it due to an allergy. I mentioned that the others at my table were almost done eating so I just wanted it removed from the check. I literally had to ask her to remove the plate. The guy then asked her what's wrong as they walked into the kitchen but he never came to speak to us. Minutes later, he came and put the check on the table and said "she asked me to drop it off". Went to the register to pay. I mentioned that everything was not great and that we would not be returning and my Server (Joy) stood there the entire time I talked to the manager. Perhaps if she would be in the dining area attending to her tables she would have noticed before 10 minutes that my food was not edible and we would have maybe had better service and more timely food and I would have actually had more than unsalted home fries and 3 bites of pasty grits to eat. Our server was not incredibly friendly when she approached the table almost as if we were inconveniencing her and the fact that I complained and mentioned that she did not provide good service should have been a comment between the manager, and I without her standing there. A young man with a headset came up and the older woman who was listening to my complaint asked if there was something to do since the toast came off. he immediately took 50% off the check. It was odd too when I took the check up, the older woman and the young guy with a headset seemed to all ready know the French toast was an issue. They have these very weird doorbell like devices on the table. It says call for help. I am not sure if we didn't get great service and no one came to do a quality check because we're supposed to use that button to summon help,if so, very bizarre! My wife and I enjoyed a late breakfast here last Sunday. It was pretty busy at 1:30 pm, but we were able to be seated right away. Menu is pretty large with breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings all in one. There are plenty of meals not on the menu that are displayed on their screens, so make sure to take a look at those too. I had sausage gravy with hash browns and eggs, and my wife had an omelet with home fries and a side of grits. The sausage gravy was very bland with no flavor in the small amount of sausage or the gravy itself, but the consistency was perfect. It's not too thick or thin. I would not recommend the sausage gravy. Both kinds of potatoes were well cooked with some crispy pieces. Service was a little absent, and when we finally flagged our server down, she said, "Just grab me when I walk by." After that, we flagged her down as needed, and service was fine. The manager did stop by, which is always a nice touch. Overall, we enjoyed our breakfast and we will return. read more
