We visited Gailey's for the first time on Sunday. Arrived at 11:20 and they were busy but we only waited 20 minutes to be seated. The food was outstanding! The El Jefe was delicious with the perfect amount of heat. Big bite Mike was also fabulous! But even better than the food was our server. Shell was incredible!!! The best service we've had anywhere in a long time. Even better than service at several fine dining restaurants. I cannot say enough about how great Shell was. If you can request a server here DEFINITELY ask for Shell. You will not be disappointed. read more

As fancy Nancy says.."totally delectable"! The skillet was absolutely delish! The sandwich on the other hand was lacking a bit. The flavor was a bit one dimensional. I think the bread being toasted would've added to the experience. It was not bad..just not great. I won't get it again. The pancakes were large and cooked well. Crispy edges and soft center. I would definitely recommend them. Our server was friendly and personable. We went on a Thursday evening and it was completely empty. It's a great time to go. This restaurant has been captured by time in a great way! The sign out front should have been the indicator of that. When you enter, you can't help but notice the hardwood floors and older furnishings. When we sat down, we were greeted by a knowledgeable server who asked if we had any questions, and she provided every answer to our questions about the food. we were in town for an Oldsmobile national show and I have to say went here three times for breakfast. It was that good , service was terrific. I had the same thing three mornings the avocado toast and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had the chicken and waffles and pancakes. It was a good meal! The sourdough was a bit of a let down- but everything else was pretty yummy!

The food was generous and delicious. Service was really good, considering the number of people present. There was a bit of a wait for our food, but it was worth the time. The only drawback was the noise level. The high ceiling, wood floors, and no sound buffering makes for an indoor echo chamber. Hard to hear the staff or your friend across the table. We went here for a brunch on Sunday on 7/2/2023. It was such good food and with the pancakes they serve eggs and bacon. I totally had enough pancakes that two of us ate them leftover the next day! We arrived early Sunday morning and were seated immediately. After about 8 minutes, we had our drink order taken - coffee and iced tea. It took roughly 40 minutes to get food. My wife ordered an omelet off the menu that advertised having jalapenos in it. This particular omelet was LOADED with jalapenos - literally so packed that it overpowered the flavor. About 1/4 of what was in there would have sufficed. I tried the sweet potato hash browns - as I enjoy things like sweet potato fries or tots. The hash browns were soggy and not crispy at all. Best thing we had all morning - the blueberry pancake ordered on the side. Restaurant was convenient downtown and had a nice vibe - but could stand to improve some in service and more in food quality. read more

Pro Tip: Join the waitlist from home or as you are going there so you won't have to wait long at the door. We went on a busy Sunday morning, and as soon as we arrived we were seated! That was about the only positive. We were sat in front of a literal door with people seated right up around us. Cold air was blasting through the door. It was very tight. The coffee cups were about 6 oz?! They were barely more than a shot glass. Why are you skimping on coffee!?!? They WERE busy, so why would you want to offend your guests and burden your wait staff with constant fill ups? Give the guests a real cup, that's rude. I got a biscuit and gravy. Bear hug? I think it was called. Not a joke, the gravy was cold. There was not enough of the gravy either. My eggs (ordered over easy) were broken and running when I got them, they were also cold. As Gordon Ramsay says, "The YOLKS ARE FOR THE GUESTS TO BREAK!" While the bacon was good, it did fall apart when you tried to pick it up. The other dish we had, had a sausage patty on it. It was definitely preformed from some type of package. It tasted like it as well. I wonder if those biscuits are made in house or they get them from someone else, because they were dried out. The waitress was busy and non attentive, I don't really blame her, she seemed way over worked. The people cooking the food were not wearing any type of hair nets over their beards or hair, I guess it's not required in Springfield!? Seems like it would be a good practice. I don't need Joe Hipster's hair in my food, but hey.. Maybe it's a delicacy, who knows?! Look, this place seems trendy and "cool" since it's been there a long time, but it honestly is way overpriced for the food quality. It's offensive really. Highly recommend! Located in downtown Springfield across the street from the Vandivort Hotel. The atmosphere was cheerful. Loved the art for sale on the walls. I think all of the artwork was under $100. Their breakfast menu was extensive. So many great options! I ended up getting the downtowner, basically eggs, bacon, hash browns (so good!) and I chose sourdough toast. Loved it. I almost ordered the sweet potato hash browns sprinkled with sugar but decided I didn't want something that sweet for breakfast. My husband got the Michelle. It's 2 eggs scrambled with mushrooms, tomatoes, and feta cheese served on sourdough toast and he chose hash browns. They have tons of omelettes, waffles, all kinds of stuff. What an amazing experience! It is worth the wait if you have to wait. We sat at the Pharmacy Bar and was able to watch the magic of their kitchen. It was like watching a culinary ballet. Everyone has their station and they moved and worked together well. Everyone was super friendly. The food was great. And the prices are reasonable. The whole cafe is just a cool experience overall. The gravy for the biscuit and gravy wasn't from scratch, but I haven't found a diner that does scratch gravy. Despite this, the biscuit and gravy were great and tasted a lot closer to the real thing than other diners in town get, and the biscuit itself was phenomenal. Was there this morning at breakfast. The very pleasant manager after a short wait seated three of us we ordered med steak with eggs and an omelet. The one steak was med and not med well. our server Morgan made another one and it wasnt med well. Third time was the charm. The manager came over and apologized for the inconvenience and assured us the meal would be ready quickly. Morgan came and apologized and gave us a $20 gift card for the inconvenience. The prices are fair for filling plates of food that come with sides that ultimately fulfill the food groups that you enjoy more than need. My significant other and I have been coming here since we met at MSU and have only had one poor experience out of our five years in Springfield. Kind of unusual place with residents of the lofts upstairs coming down at different times but we thought it was very cool. The wood floors had some history. We were surprised with the number of mailboxes in the back. The food was excellent, as was the service. We came in for a cardinal ball game and looked at numerous reviews before choosing Gaileys. Great coffee. I had a breakfast bowl that was wonderful. My significant other had a breakfast croissant sandwich that was amazing and huge. Great choice. Great experience. Highly recommend it.
