Lots of fabric choices, which is great As a customer, I needed assistance in selecting materials and how much to cut. Two employees told me all they do is cut the material to what you want. They do not help you find materials and they do not help you make choices and they do not give you estimates of how much material you need if you tell them and show them exactly what you want to do and sew. They give no opinions to help if they are asked. They told me it's only up to me and all they do is point you in a direction and cut material to what they are told. That is why I enter a store.... looking for assistance from employees. Looking for opinions. There was no assistance given to me as a customer even after I asked three times. I have been in this store before when there have been helpful employees . I do not understand today's visit. Even when I couldn't lift the bulk of material to bring it to the cutting station there was also an attitude from the employee since he had to go and get the material. Where I live in CA, decent apparel fabric stores just don't exist. I decided to take advantage of a last minute trip to Atlanta, and thought there must be some decent fabric stores there. While exploring possible options I came across the great reviews on Gail K. I was prepared to spend some significant time shopping and spending. Upon walking into the store, part of the reviews I'd read were correct; the vast amount of fabric, notions, embellishments, etc., is unbelievable. I'd definitely never seen anything like it. Stuff I didn't know existed, and I've been crafting and sewing for more than 40 years. However, what makes the place so cool, is also a huge downfall. What was difficult to ascertain from the reviews is that the store is literally packed, like hoarder packed, floor to ceiling (perhaps 10ft high) in many places, about 4ft tall in others, and wall to wall, with bolts upon bolts of fabric, and/or with big plastic totes full of trims, and embellishments. You have about a 1-2 ft wide space, to navigate through the store throughout all this stuff, at best. I'm really not claustrophobic or anything like that, but I can honestly say, as I looked around the store I really felt like that, and honestly, unsafe. I hope to goddess the place never catches fire while someone is in there, or that none of the shelving spontaneously collapses - they'd never get out. The air is stale too, all that fabric, with no fresh air, and no way to dust or clean. I could not have possibly spent the amount of time necessary to really appreciate what they had to offer, both because it was an incredible amount of work to move all the heavy bolts around with no room to do so, but also, I felt like I wasn't safe. All I kept thinking was how bummed I was, it was like being a kid in a candy store, with no money to spend except I had the money, I just couldn't get to the candy. I still forced myself to get a couple things since I'd traveled so far, and I'm happy with what I got. I just wish I could buy that place and get it organized differently- it would probably take a year or more! Yikes! read more

Be prepared to DIG! now to me that is the fun part like a scavenger hunt. A helper along is nice for extra hands and eyes to seek and find. I came here looking for a very specific fabric (that another mainstream fabric store should have had but cancelled my order on) and I REALLY REALLY needed it that day. I couldn't believe the mainstream fabric store didn't have it and now this one also didn't! Sydney saw my desperation and helped me and looked around the store for it, then found someone else who found it in a separate building next door! Wow! This place is a fabric lover's dream come true! If you love to sew or are in the fashion industry then you've got to come here. There are rows and rows of fabrics and notions, stacked up to the ceiling! Now, it kind of stays busy and it is very tight not only in the parking lot but inside the store, so be aware of that. Also, if you're looking to purchase patterns this is not the place! Otherwise, the employees are very funny, friendly, and accommodating. I can't believe I have not yet posted a review for this place, one of my "mood sanctuaries" for when I get too depressed over Atlanta's traffic and teardown culture. Other "fabric people" reading this may understand what I mean. Gail K is a little slice of the NY City garment district transplanted onto Cheshire Bridge Road. Yes the traffic can be bad. No, the building is not luxurious. It's all part of the charm for a fabricaholic like me. There is simply no comparison between this place and Joanne or any other chain store At Gail K, you can find suiting fabrics made of wool and satin fabrics actually made of silk. You'll also find staff who know that satin is a fabric or weave while silk is a fiber, that gabardine can be comprised of wool, or a synthetic fiber like polyester, or even a blend thereof. They get stuff like that at Gail K. Can you buy fabric from online stores? Sure you can. But that's not NEARLY as fun as fondling the bolts at Gail K! I like to touch and see. Fabric is tactile, not just visual. Come here and you'll understand that. Prices are reasonable IMHO given that this is quality fabric. They have stuff in all price ranges. Come prepared to spend a while immersed in the vastness of the inventory. You have been warned! P.S. Be aware-this is an APPAREL fabric store. Certainly, there are some fabrics here that could multi-task for home decor purposes. However, I would not recommend coming here for the sole purpose of finding upholstery or drapery fabrics. The selection of fabrics is impressive. There's a TON of very costume types of fabrics and also a ton of wedding dress type of fabrics. The thing that turned me off was the prices. I was expecting cheaper. There's a competitor not too far that's selling the same types of fabrics for like a quarter of the price. Gail K has a great variety of fabrics... lots of higher end fabrics. Everything that caught my eye was $20/yard. I was not a fan of the fact that the prices are written on the core of the roll. Depending on how it's rolled it can be cumbersome trying to see the price. GET A STICKER GUN GUYS! Lol They have an amazing variety of BUTTONS! All shapes, sizes, colors, and types!! Oh man. Don't bring the uninitiated in here. It can be a little, um, overwhelming. But for me? It was heaven. Well, heaven for the me that I think I could one day possibly become: the me that would be deft with a sewing machine, craftier than thou, and had a one of a kind wardrobe of handmade jewels. Sadly, I'm nowhere close to being that Kathleen, so I need awesome fabric to make up for my lackluster skills. This is the kind of place that provides inspiration: don't come in with a perfect vision in mind as you'll find something to make it even more awesome. At one point in time, I was coming here just about weekly. I've heard some people complain about the cost of some of the fabric/materials here. Yes, there are some things that are a bit pricey. But there are a variety of options available for just about any price-point. You just have to look...and there's a lot to look at here. If all else fails I consider myself to be fairly trendy and fashionable (most of the time), so I like the options here. And since the super trendy local design students seem to always be here when I stop by, I feel like I'm in the right place to pretend I'm on par with them with my sewing skills and design sense. read more

This place has quite the selection. I needed fabric to reupholster some old dining table chairs and came here based on other Yelp reviews. The store is filled with many various fabric options. Give yourself some time to sort through the vast selection. I came with a general idea of what I was looking for but went in a completely different route based on what they had available. The staff was helpful in assisting me in determining how much fabric I'd need for my project and also how well the fabric would work based on how often the chairs would be used. I can't really compare their prices to other stores because I've never really needed fabric. However, I will say the prices definitely range from affordable to "wow, people pay that much for fabric?" Clothing fabric store not too far from Lenox Mall that literally should have about anything you need to make anything you want! Only thing keeping this store from 5 stars is that you really need to know your fabric to find stuff. Not a lot of signage for a beginner. You can ask yes, but we got a point 'over there' kinda thing. The fabric is why you go. No where else has this type of materials that I have found in the south. We found costume fabric, wedding fabric, wovens, silks, trims, buttons, zippers... anything you need! The area seems a little sketchy but really you are not far from Lenox so it's not THAT sketchy. I took tons of pics to help folks see what they have. Really they should have anything for making clothing. Just know your textiles and you will be fine! Def comparable to Mood in NYC. read more

This location is right off of Cheshire Bridge road. A decent size store with many fabrics of all types and designs. I was shopping for a few new fabric designs for active wear and yoga pants. I was able to purchase about 4 new types. Prices are decent. Just depends on what you may need. I was able to get 4 different types of Lycra, equaling out to about 9 yards for $100 bucks. They have another location in Norcross but do not have all their proper information displayed for hours, etc. I'll have to check out that location for the future. read more

AMAZING FABRIC SELECTION! HORRIBLE (actually NON-EXISTENT) customer service. No one ever greets you or acknowledges you as you walk in. They literally just look at you. No one asks if you need any help. If you need help or a price is not listed, you have to HUNT someone down. And, when you do ask for help, the response, "What do you want?" Excuse me?! I am trying to spend MY money in YOUR establishment; a little professionalism and simple manners would go a long way. I thought maybe it was just me, but I watched a young guy wait for 15-20 minutes for someone to answer a simple price question. They literally just kept walking by him, until he finally (frustratingly) said, "Can someone PLEASE answer my question?!" There is no regard or appreciation for their customers. A young lady was having bridal fabric cut, asked the lady when they moved on, "Did we pin where we started?" The lady responded, "Uh, Duh! My Momma didn't raise no dummy!" Umm... WTF?! If you aren't sure what you are looking for and need some ideas, this is the best place to go. This is probably not where you want to go if you are looking for something very specific. You could get lost and spend 3 days trying to find the exact item you think you want. Come here for inspiration versus preconceived notions (no pun intended). Much to my mother's dismay, I wanted an orange sash to accent my wedding dress. I checked out Hancock Fabrics and Joanne's, but they just didn't have what I was looking for. Hurrah for Yelp and finding Gail K Fabrics! I walked into a store crammed full of more fabric than I have ever seen in one place in my entire life. My creative juices started flowing and I forgot my initial purpose as I started imagining all the wonderful clothes, sofa covers, curtains, etc. that I could make with all this awesome, unique fabric! The way for me to die happy would be next to the silks at Gail K, and I am not even kidding. In order to really love this place, you need to go there several times - you learn what's where over time, and it's organized -- just in its own idiosyncratic way. Basically, if you want it, it's in there - and if you can't find it, you just need to ask. I've never had a problem finding what I want in Gail's - more like a problem narrowing it down. The best thing about Gail's is once you've been there a few times, regardless of how long it's been, the regular staff there remember you -- or maybe they just remember that we always buy what seems like a LOT of fabric. Parking is a problem, particularly on days that they're busy (so Saturdays, and probably Sundays). We often park across the street and use the crosswalk. It's fine since that office building is closed on those days. Also a note on price and quality - we are a very small nonprofit theater, and we are not going to be spending anything over $15/yard just for fun. In fact. $15/yard is a little rich. The fabrics we get here for $9-12/yard are 100 times the quality of anything we get at Joann or Hancock. You get what you pay for. read more

This is the place!! Whatever you need in fabric is here and at basically reasonable prices. They are a bit pricier than say Joann's or Hobby Lobby, but the quality of the fabrics are so much better. The selections for evening wear, fabrics for weddings and quality wools and knits is amazing and dmuch better quality than anywhere else in Atlanta. I also order from online (Moods) for designer fabrics but Gail K is excellent for your casual and dress-up needs. Great place to visit. read more

It's abundantly stocked with bolts of fabrics, tubes of buttons, yards of trim, boxes of swatches, rolls of batting. Molly loudly proclaimed "Welcome to Sparkle World!" as we pulled into the parking lot. We were on a quest to find some rhinestones for the shoes she wanted to wear Christmas Eve. You can never have enough shiny things. The shoes didn't turn out as she wanted, but it wasn't for lack of trying. Thanks to the wonderful people here she was able to pick up 30 stones and they were exactly what she wanted. Of course, this place is more than just sparkles and glitter. It's fabric and warm smiles. There's a huge variety of pretty much any kind of fabric imaginable, and if you can't find it doesn't mean it's not there. Lots of bridal and special occasion fabric. Oh Gail, how I miss you now I'm in Huntsville for the year. I never thought of reviewing this place, but a friend recently did and I had to put in my 2 pennies! I have shopped here for years and the fabrics are phenomenal in price, quality, and abundance. The button collection is what Gail prides herself on and once I saw a button salesman (I know, right?!) in the store peddling their buttons and she was having nothing but the rarest, highest quality buttons in her store! For my wedding, I turned down the expensive custom-made veil at the bridal store and shopped here for the lace that would best match my gown. I left with about $40 worth of the perfect lace that I made into my veil and about $300 worth of white fabric I draped around the reception site the day before the wedding. I think that probably sums up how I feel about Gail's fabric store....a MUST try. Mind the small parking lot and the traffic on Cheshire though when exiting - was almost hit here a couple of times. read more
