I am a knitter, and so when we were visiting Atlanta from California I wanted to get some yarn as a souvenir.

I was visiting ATL for the weekend and wanted to visit some yarn stores so the Craftivist came up in my research. I saw that they host events for people to come in and work on their fiber arts a few times a week so this sold me on visiting! When I stopped in, I was greeted and there was space for me to sit down. I even got some help on my project. It was so nice to be community with people who love the fiber arts for a little while. I look forward to supporting their business since they also ship!

I recently had a private knitting lesson here…read more The instructor begin with telling me the different types of forms yarn comes in, ie. hanks, skeins and balls along with other information about knitting. After the introduction the instructor picked out a wood circular knitting needle for me. The reason for choosing the wood I was told it would help hold the yarn better for a beginner versus a metal needle. When it came time to choose the yarn I was told to make my choice from a small area. I picked a mustard yarn. The next day I received an invoice from the store because I didn't pay for the items. Silly me. I assumed because I was only allowed to pick out from a certain section that it was included with the lesson that I had paid for. Unfortunately, because the yarn I chose was quite small. It has been difficult as a beginner working with it. There have been a lot of starts and stops which I would expect but more so because of the size of the yarn. I have since learned as a beginner I should have a bulkier yarn. When I left that day, I had not gotten the hang of the cast on, or the knit stitch. Five minutes before the class was to end we had just finished casting on and that didn't leave much time for the knitting since the store was opening. Since taking the class I have been able to get the hang of the cast on and the knit stitch thanks to Sheep and Stitch on YouTube. I think the reason I didn't get the hang of it in the store was because of the teaching style. It just didn't mesh with my learning style. I would definitely recommend the classes to anyone here. Very professional staff. Because the yarn I ended up purchasing isn't good for beginners. I did call the store to see if I could exchange it, but I was told they would not accept it because it had already been wound. The staff was very nice. They were very helpful when customers came in.

I'm so glad he did...This place is amazing... from customer service, to any kind of material you need to create your own designs on or off the sewing machine, to teaching what you don't know, and need to know about any machine they have available. I've bought both sewing machines and sergers from this store. They give you excellent deals when purchasing anything, and if ever a problem they always provide the right solution. Their classes are very informative, well worth the price, their expertise is amazing, and their machine repair is second to none. And, as always, the buck stops at the top...their Manager is second to none, always available, fair, honest, and if it's fixable, she can fix it!

They also sell sewing machines, and they seem to offer different types of sewing classes. There is also a selection of materials for sale. While I was waiting for my turn, a gentleman came to pick up his machine, and he seemed very happy. I did ask the sales lady, how much it did cost and the price seemed reasonable. Of course, every service price is based on the additional parts and labor needed. So, I will definitely give it a try. Seems like it will take few weeks to get your sewing machine back, but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Especially as I'm gravitating toward more natural yarn types. It's a small, cozy, and intimate with a lot of variety of yarn. I like that they have a lot of natural yarns there. There's a pretty big range of prices for the variation of the yarn. You can find a lot of your crochet and knitting needs there from cute accessories, useful devices like the winding machine, hooks, etc. They also have classes you can sign up for.

Yarn is a magnet for me, so I tend to look for yarn stores, yarn deals and specialty stores. This particular yarn studio popped up on my google maps when I was looking for yarn for a prayer shawl. So I drove 30 minutes there and found some great deals on dyed yarns of cotton and wool varieties. Turns out they offer crochet and knitting classes too. The 2 store owners were very welcoming and gracious in their attentions. I was given personal service and made to feel special. I ended up with Japanese brand yarn - noro that I previously could not afford. It was a wonderful experience. I was told they vary yarns from 4 different individual dye artists.

Given its placement, parking is never an issue as the shopping center is quite large and features plenty of spots! This Michaels is like many others I have visited over the years, but the glaring difference with this location is the service, specifically the lack of service on the sales floor. I have been here many times and finding someone to ask a question of is near impossible. I have made many laps around the store trying to find someone and weirdly they are not assisting others, they are just not on the floor. I usually have to hit the front register to get someone called to a particular section for assistance. This has been my experience when needing help at the framing center as well. Never anyone staffed, so always have to request and wait. In addition the service, the store seems to be a little disheveled. I know it is in a prime location and foot traffic is heavy, but it always seems like a small tornado has come through and thrashed the merchandise and floor settings. Overall, I come to Michael's for very specific things from time to time and while this isn't the most fantastic Michael's I have been to, it carries what I need in those times and so when in need in the future, I will pop back in!
