I've been coming to Gaia for years. They do a wonderful job and have always been flexible to any requests I've had. Plenty of color selections and always able to achieve any design I want. I've brought my young daughters in for mani pedis and the staff has been so kind and warm with them. If I've ever had an issue, they've been quick to fix it. A few visits ago I switched from dip to gel builder and I have loved it. Abby has done my nails the last two times and she's done a wonderful job. Unfortunately I had a poor experience at this shop. I don't usually write poor reviews. I visited twice trying to speak with the manager, Phong, about my experience but was told she's on vacation. I was racially profiled while visiting this shop. In brief, I bought the 99$ pedicure, the 55$ facial and the 70$ manicure for partner and self. The total came out to 393. While that alone is surprising (they upcharged) what's worse is I was asked discreetly (yellow memo) to pay before the service was complete. Not before it began but in the MIDDLE. I was hurt and surprised and off guard all at once. And yes, they asked me to tip so the service came out to 473. I hope they enjoyed every penny. I doubt it was worth it. read more

This was my first time here. I was there from around 10am to 2pm for a manicure and pedicure. The pedicure turned out well. I asked for a pink base with a French tip and wanted my toes shaped as square as possible. They accommodated my request to switch to a pinker base color and the final result on the toes looked good. The manicure was a different experience. I asked for simple 3D flowers similar to the inspiration photos. The process took a very long time, so instead of multiple flowers we only did one flower on each ring finger. Before applying the flowers, the nail tech painted black outlines underneath them. Once I realized the black would still be visible, I asked whether it would be covered and was told it would not. I then had to ask for that part to be removed and redone. The 3D flowers themselves came out uneven and bulky compared to the inspiration photos, and I had to ask for some of the petals to be reshaped. There is also still some black visible underneath the white polish. At checkout I was quoted $250, which was unexpected given the design and final result. I asked for a breakdown of the pricing. The pedicure was initially listed at a higher tier than the one I selected, and after checking with the nail tech they corrected it back to the $50 pedicure I originally asked for. The rest of the total came from separate charges for French tips, gel, flowers, length of the nails and the manicure services. After small discounts, the final total was $230 before tip. My last time here!!! I've been going here for years! With my husband and this last time my gel nails started chipping in 3 days. I've never had an issue with my nails chipping here. Mind you each time she cured them she didn't allow my nails to be under the curing lamp the full minute and probably why they started chipping. The reason for the 2 star is because when I went back to have 4 of my nails fixed they were rude!! Didn't apologize nor say goodbye, thank you when I left! When she finished my nails she got up and walked away and left me there sitting. Gee thanks! Just treated me like dirt! I realize things happen and for this to be the first time and You know me! Why did you treat me so bad when I came back to get them fixed???? I expected way better service!! Never again will I come here nor refer anyone because if this is how you treat people when Your Staff didn't do their job is unacceptable! read more

I really wanted to love this place because the designs are beautiful and the atmosphere is nice, but this is the second time I've spent over $200 on a set with a pedicure and had nails break or pop off before (or right at) the one-week mark. At that price point, that's just not acceptable. Both times, I could tell they were taking on too many walk-ins and the work felt rushed. I completely understand wanting to accommodate customers, but rushing through services affects quality. When nails aren't prepped or applied properly, they don't last..and that's exactly what's happening. To be fair, when my Disney set (pictured) broke like a day or two after having them done...they were very kind and redid the set free of charge, and I truly appreciated that. However, I don't want to have to keep coming back to fix issues. I spend a lot of money here, and I also don't want to spend more time in the nail shop than necessary because a set didn't last. For the amount being charged, clients should be able to expect durability. I think the salon would benefit from slowing down, limiting how many appointments are taken at once, and investing more time in proper technique and training to ensure sets actually last. I really did like this place at first, which makes this disappointing. But the quality doesn't match the price, I unfortunately have to start going elsewhere. read more

I walked into Gaia Nail Salon in Walnut Creek on a whim, and I'm so glad I did! The lady who greeted me at the door was so pleasant and welcoming. When I asked for a pedicure, she showed me this gorgeous little tray decorated with total fall vibes -- tiny pumpkins, pine cones, a scrub the color of honey, a candle, and a succulent all arranged on natural wood. She explained their specialty fall pedicure, complete with a salt scrub, collagen treatment, and warm candle wax. Let me tell you -- this experience was amazing. The extended foot and leg massage was heavenly, the atmosphere was cozy and relaxing, and the scents were wonderful. They even used fresh orange slices to scrub my legs -- such a unique and refreshing touch! I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I'll definitely be back! read more

I got a gel pedicure, and it turned out terrible. I only got plain white and they ruined the shape of my toenails, filing into the sides to make them super round. The polish also went over the edge of my toenails, and they look like white blobs on the tips of my toes. Came in as a walk in for a pedicure. The lady who greeted me was nice and led me to the pedicure area. The ambiance was relaxing. Dim lights with soft music. The girl who did my pedicure filed off my gel pedicure instead of soaking for a bit and kept nicking my skin with the filer. I asked for a basic white color and she spent more time painting my nails, messing up, wiping off and having to start over than she did on the entire pedicure. She did not do any cuticle care or work on my ingrown toe nail to get it out she just tried to file it down. She then had to request someone else to come in and redo the paint on my nails because she couldn't get it right. I wanted to like this place but the quality of the pedicure just wasn't worth the $85 price. read more

Gaia Nails is my #1 choice for a relaxing, calm, beautiful pedicure. First, the atmosphere is gorgeous - low lighting, quiet voices, comfortable massage chairs. I booked a pedicure here. I was told over the phone it was $50 for a regular pedicure. When I arrived I was handed a menu and they it didn't list basic pedicure, instead it had options such as "lavender pedicure," which I chose for $60. I also asked for a set of nails. I already had acrylics on which the nail artist ended up removing. I was surprised that the removal of the acrylic nails was painless. Five stars for not popping my nails off! The nail artist who did my pedicure was kind. Her massage was good. I couldn't really tell I had a lavender pedicure I just saw some purple scrub being applied to me which is okay. The set of nails they put on me were called Gel X for $65 a set. The nails took much quicker time to place than an acrylic set. After a week and half about three came off which is good because I have kids my hands are always in the water for dishes, or for cleaning so they held up well. When I went back in to have them fixed I was told over the phone I would need a new set. The other seven nails left on me were attached very well. I was wandering how much it was going to hurt to have them taken off. Luckily, they didn't remove them and in fact filled them for me! I appreciate this. No pain! I love my Gel X nails. They are perfect. This has become my go to place. Only thing I would recommend is to ask for a punch card if it's your first time here when checking out. I was given one the second time because I believe they didn't remember to give me one the first time. I haven't used the card, but I think it's got some kind of freebie or discount once your punches are filled up. I also like this place because they ask if you want a massage after a Gel X set. read more

My daughter is turning 5 this weekend and she wanted to get her nails done and I needed a pedicure. They took us in immediately and it was super busy! We were happily welcomed in at the door. The woman who brought us to our chairs was so nice. They treated my little girl like she was a princess. They checked in consistently to make sure everything was going okay and that both of us were comfortable. They even painted some cute flowers on her nails and they came out great! My pedicure was also excellent. Both nail technicians were super polite and professional. I wish I got their names so I could give them a shout out. Prices are comparable to salons in the area. I had a very disappointing experience with this pedicure service. During nail trimming, the technician pushed the tool far too deep under my nail, which was painful and uncomfortable. The "massage" portion was also poorly done -- instead of a relaxing experience, it felt like a rough, hurried rubbing of my calves with no real technique. To make matters worse, the hot stones were excessively hot and actually burned my leg. I had to ask the technician to stop using them altogether. Finally, the nail painting reflected a lack of experience, with uneven application and an overall sloppy finish. Overall, this was not a relaxing or professional experience, and I would not recommend this service. read more

I've been going here for a little over a year. As for manicures, I'd recommend going elsewhere. Not only do gel, dip, and builder gel chip extremely quickly, but the services often feel rushed. Most recently, they didn't want to soak off my dip powder and instead used an electric file to remove it, leaving my nails painfully thin. I've been getting dip manicures for over 5 years and have never had anyone skip soaking or file my nails down this aggressively. I only booked here last minute because my regular salon didn't have availability. When I later went to my usual nail tech, she immediately asked what happened and why my nails were filed so thin. What bothered me most was that when I told them the filing hurt and asked them to stop, I was told my nails were "naturally thin." They are not. My nails were over-filed because they chose the quicker route instead of properly soaking off the previous manicure. After I pushed back, they apologized and offered other services to compensate, which I declined. The salon itself is clean and the ambiance is nice, which can be hard to find, but the lack of care and quality outweighs that for me. I won't be returning. read more

I am deeply disappointed to be writing this after 3+ years as a loyal client here, spending $200-$250 per month, well over $10,000 in services over this time. I am postpartum, a new mother, and breastfeeding, and I continued coming here during a period of physical recovery and emotional vulnerability despite repeatedly feeling mistreated by the male front-desk employee (with long black hair), because the salon is close to my home and because Nicki is wonderful. The prior front-desk staff member was lovely,. The problems began after she left with the man there now who manages scheduling and has repeatedly overstepped his role. Today, after making an appointment and dealing with parking, I walked in and he refused me service. To be clear he is not by an owner or a manager and he said it's because "I was clearly unhappy last time." He is referring to just last week following a question I had on pricing in which he was making up reasons to explain the price and was later corrected by a manager that I was right. That interaction ended professionally at the time and the manager made no mention of refusing any service. Today's refusal is clearly retaliation after he was embarrassed for being wrong, he even said so when I asked and had a smirk on his face to be able to refuse me service. I'll also add that pricing at this salon is consistently unclear and changes without explanation. This is a recurring pattern: same services, different visits, different totals, with no itemized breakdown, which feels This review is not about all technicians. Nicki is outstanding, and some of the pedicure staff are excellent. However, two technicians -- Tao and Steve -- are extremely rough, inconsistent, and visibly disengaged. When they work on my nails, they are bumpy, uneven, and break prematurely. When Nicki does them, my nails last beautifully. The salon only has three technicians trained in builder gel -- Nicki, Tao, and Steve -- and I have consistently and politely requested Nicki for this reason. Clients are allowed to preference technicians, yet the front-desk employee appears personally offended by this and has repeatedly made it an issue. He even brought it up tonight when he said "you don't like working with Steve or Tao..." I'll add that I am a woman of color a well-respected and engaged member of this community, and over time I have observed troubling behavior from this individual that feels like consistent micro-aggressions toward myself other women of color, including longer wait times, walk-ins being taken ahead of them, dismissive language, and threats to remove them if they question what is happening. I have personally witnessed him speak negatively about these clients to other. In addition, I only recently learned that the products used here are the same as most other nail salons -- not organic and, frankly, quite toxic. This was extremely disappointing to discover, as the organic branding was a major reason I chose this salon, particularly while breastfeeding and trying to minimize chemical exposure for myself and my baby. For a business marketing itself as organic, that distinction matters. Being refused service after years of loyalty, particularly under these circumstances, is unacceptable and embarrassing. If I were the owner, I would want to know when: * a single front-desk employee is driving away loyal, five-figure clients * pricing practices are inconsistent and non-transparent * clients are being refused service without authority or escalation * and branding does not reflect the reality of the products being used I would welcome a direct conversation with ownership to resolve this appropriately. Otherwise, it is deeply disappointing to say that I will be taking my business elsewhere -- something I truly hoped I would not have to do. I hope others aren't treated the same way.
