Flavorful sauce that was creamy enough but not too heavy- better than some "fancy" vegan Italian restaurants I've had in the city. Also comes with a side of garlic bread. The mushroom empanada was very good- each piece is huge!! They are deep fried, and would be nice to have a baked option perhaps. The filling was really good- seemed like a mix of meat substitute and mushrooms. Also tried the vegan crispy chicken burger- portion was huge. Very nice sesame bun and "chicken" patty was thick and hearty. For dessert, got the strawberry cheesecake which was so-so for me. The texture was ok but the taste was not cheesecake-y enough for me. I'm not personally big on vegan establishments (as a vegetarian myself), but was interested in this place as it's near where we live now. Decided to come here on a whim on a Friday night. Apparently there was a wait of 45 mins if we wanted a table, but no wait if we sat at the "bar." (1) I saw a couple open tables, so found that weird, but we said it's okay and obliged to sit at the bar. After that, it was a little bit weird as the waiter took like 10 mins to get to us. Apparently there was only one person covering the entire place. Anyhow, he spent a decent amount of time explaining every single special to us (which we declined all those offers as most seemed tempting if we added an extra surcharge to them). Also, we didn't get water served immediately, which was kinda weird. But once we asked, we finally got ourselves a bottle, which we had to serve ourselves... We decided to split two items: Zucchini Nuggets: Good idea, but maybe slightly poorly executed. The picture on the website isn't necessarily an accurate reflection. I say that because the zucchini wasn't really crispy in the inside. The breading easily separated and I realized the zucchini was just fried as is.... wasn't really grilled or crispy by any stretch. I was expecting a more crispier zucchini, but at least the fried breading & the marinara sauce were great Lettuce Wraps: I liked this more. In particular, the sweet chili cauliflower was my favorite compared to the mushroom couscous (which was actually good). Surprisingly, the lettuce wraps filled us up quite well, though maybe the side of french fries helped. All in all, it's not a super heavy dinner, which is great. OMG Gaia & Loki... you were the only restaurant I ate while in Jersey City and I am okay with that. Simply put: everything was amazing. I called ahead for a party of ten over a weekend brunch and they were very accommodating. With it raining, I was worried they'd be booked up but they were able to make space and welcome us into their cute, eclectic restaurant. The menu was vast and filled with American favorites including sandwiches, texmex, waffles, pancakes, and more. They also had a few specialty items including a Fried Oyster Mushroom and Waffles combo, which I ultimately ended up ordering. The mushroom was fried to golden perfection and the waffle was one of the best vegan ones I've ever had. It was so much food on one plate that I barely finished it myself. I also loved how the owner came by to check in on us and even offered us small bowls of honeydew that they had just gotten. This was so appreciated while we were perusing the menu since we were so hungry walking into the shop. My friends who are not vegan were also raving about the food, with one ending up ordering dessert for himself... and he never does such a thing while dining out! That's when I knew we all gave them our seal of approval. Came her on a Friday night around 6 without a reservation and was seated, there is the bar and two tables for non reservation people. Each table has a bottle to of water with mint in it, which is such a nice touch. The staff is super friendly. At the end of the meal they gave a complimentary gluten free cookie since they ran out of the regular ones, we liked it so we bought one to go too. The owner was so nice and apologized that they had not more regular ones. This place reminds me of a Greek diner, they have a gyro on the menu which was recommended but we went with the pineapple fried rice and the grilled portobello sandwich, plenty of food for us, the salad was huge and packed the toppings. The standout was the pecan dressing. Thick, cream and sweet, I never had anything like it before and it was one of the best dressings I've tried. I also like the sesame sticks in the salad which added a nice crunch, as did the walnuts, plenty of mushrooms as well. My husband's rice was the perfect combo of sweet and salty. Had an umami flavor and also came with Nan bread and avocado which balanced out the dish. The presentation of all the dishes were superb, the pineapple fried rice came in a half pineapple! The prices are between 20-30 a dish which is reasonable for the quality and portion. They have a great desert menu and we were tempted to get cake but opted for a cookie so I can eat it at the movie we were going to. Food came out at a reasonable place and we spent about an hour here, some tables where there longer and they will definitely not rushing anyone, also there is one bathroom and it's very clean. I want to come back and will make a reservation next time. I highly recommend for vegan, vegetarian and even meat eaters just because the staff, portions and flavors are so good. read more

Finally tried this posh vegan restaurant! Love all the velvet with white & gold accents. The service was so-so. The guy was rude, didn't greet me, didn't even come to my table after I sat down and as you can see from my photos nothing there was busy or upsetting. After I made intentional eye contact hinting for attention before deciding I shouldn't eat there if I feel mistreated, he came over with water I couldn't finish saying thank you before he walked away then sent a girl to take my order. She smiled and was helpful during my visit. After I ate, she referred me to him at the bar to pay - he didn't even make eye contact with me. I gave a small tip for that behavior I hope it goes to the girl not him at least. The fried rice was different I've never had pineapple veggie fried rice - it was more sweet than I'd like so wouldn't order it again. Loved the warm pita with avocado though - I ate it first before it got cold. The bathroom smelled horrible although the decor was cute. I really had a bad taste about the energy of the guy serving. Accompanying a vegan friend, I ended up at Gaia & Loki for an early Saturday dinner. At 5m, the establishment had no customers, but that changed quickly. My friend and I ordered the plant-based empanadas ($18) to share, and I ordered the grilled mushroom salad ($19) for myself. Everything arrived promptly, w/10 minutes. I did not expect such large empanadas. Then again, given the price point, the portion makes sense. The fried outer crust remained crispy without having too much oil or crumbling and drying out. The filling seemed indistinguishable from meat filling. Interestingly enough, the consistency of the filling seemed less crumbly than I've seen in empanadas, almost dumpling-like. This in no way detracted from the experience. The mushroom salad arrived with similarly large portions. The cherry tomatoes provided bright acidity, the walnuts crunchy texture contrast, and grilled mushrooms delicious umami. I have never felt more full eating a salad before. read more

I have been here a few times now and the food and ambiance each and every time is fabulous! The mint water on the tables is such a nice touch. Plus, it's byob for those nights you want to enjoy a glass of wine with your meal. It usually takes a while to be greeted but the servers are always very nice and helpful. Our most recent visit, we were served by Jasmine and she was an absolute pleasure and very accommodating to our needs. As for the food, the lumpias are an amazing starter. Some other notable food options are the cauliflower alfredo, which is deliciously creamy and beautifully presented with a fried enoki mushroom on top. This is by far the best thing I have had here. But I would also like to mention the chicken and waffles. I have never gotten the chance to try this traditional brunch entree but Gaia and Loki makes it vegan so I was able to experience something I never thought I would! The portions are quite generous and you can really taste all of the amazing flavors in each dish. Oh and my mom LOVED the gluten free waffles. She is a big meat eater but says she wants to have her birthday brunch here just for the waffles! The final thing I want to mention is their tea. Not only do they have an amazing tea list, but they describe the benefits of each kind on their menu and serve it to you in a big glass pot over a flame to keep it warm. As a meat eater, I was VERY satisfied with my plant-based gyro. Fries it came with were amazing too. The cauliflower bites were also amazing. And I think I tried a plant-based meatball. A friend and I dropped by Gaia & Loki in search of great vegan/vegetarian friendly food. We were lucky to find we were able to walk in on a Saturday brunch time. Gaia & Loki definitely hit the spot - the Mushroom Alfredo was tasty. The Alfredo sauce was made of cauliflower and was a lighter but still creamy sauce that made the mushroom pasta dish very tasty. The crispy enoki plated in the center of the dish was also amazing! We also ordered the Gaia platter which came with an assortment of different vegetables. The variety of vegs was greatly appreciated, but the dish lacked a sauce or something to cohesive bring the dish together in our opinion. Our side of sweet potato fries were really good! The interior of the restaurant was nicely put together, and one could tell there was a ton of thought put into the interior design of the restaurant. The only flaw was that there was a circus performance being played on the tv screens which definitely didn't match the vibe and was a little distracting. But all in all, we definitely admired the cohesion of most of the interior design components (even the cups they use to serve water was so cuteeee). It is a little pricier (it was around 30$ pp with tip and tax for the Mushroom Alfredo, Gaia Platter, and sweet potato fried). Overall a solid vegan brunch place in Jersey City! read more

The food was amazing! We did not have a reservation and upon arrival was invited to dine at the bar. After siting at the bar for more than twenty minutes we asked our amazing server Nic why we couldn't be seated at one of the open tables, he told us that management said "no." We opted out of exploring the full menu and settled for appetizers. The overall experience was disappointing because we saw that no one was seated at the several open tables over the course of an hour dining there and they simply refused to seat us and no logical explanation was provided. Disappointed that we didn't experience the full menu but I have learned to never reward poor behavior. Nic our server was authentic, kind and apologetic about why the establishment opted to leave several tables open for over an hour. Perhaps, they didn't want to risk confusion with their established reservations in the event we diner longer. Tyler, a server that was consulting Nic did invite us to dine at one of the tables as we were leaving which only caused more confusion.. Eggplant Parmigiana Over Pasta has generous portion and came with a side of bread and 3 pieces of eggplants. It's a good value and tasty as well. Can't comment on gryo as I didn't tasted it. At first it was overwhelming deciding what to pick on their pretty expansive menu, so my group asked for a couple recommendations. Review from a carnivorous retired fireman. I had the Gyro with plant meat(said $17 online on the menu linked through the QR on the table, but it was $18 per the menu posted in front of the restaurant). It was a much smaller amount of plant meat compared to the amount of animal meat that is usually on gyros that I eat. But it was still filling. It was well put together and tasty. It tasted nothing like gyro meat. The plant meat was pretty bland. But somehow, put it all together, and it was pretty tasty. I enjoyed the meal, but if you follow me, you know I almost always want more flavor. The fries are delicious, crispy, and a decent serving. Some of the best fries in JC. They gave us a small free fruit bowl of papaya and watermelon before the meal. And a free hibiscus tea during the meal, which was very good. I'm not sure if it's normal for them to give samples, but I'll probably order the hibiscus tea next time I visit. My wife ordered the bacon onion ring burger. She enjoyed it, especially the bread, lettuce, and onion rings. She said the meat was tough and just okay. However, she said it tasted good when eaten altogether. I eat way less animal meat nowadays. This meal was refreshing. Honestly, nowhere near as tasty as a lamb gyro. However, after an animal gyro, I often feel weighed down. However, with the plant meat today, I feel full but not weighed down. I would definitely return. A huge plus is that the staff are great. I might try the same gyro next time but with mushrooms. My grandfather was a vegetarian in his later years. I always respected that he didn't want to hurt animals, the man literally wouldn't hurt a fly.
