I brought in my Tag Heuer because the chronograph second hand had stopped working. From the start, the owner was unprofessional--he managed to lose a part of my watch while inspecting it and then insisted that the entire movement needed to be replaced. He originally quoted me a ridiculous $500, and after I told him I'd rather go to an authorized service center for that price, we "agreed" on $350. I ended up being charged $378 upfront. The red flags continued during the pickup process: Dishonest Timelines: I dropped it off Wednesday and was told it would be ready Monday because he needed to "observe" the new movement. As someone familiar with quartz movements, I knew this was nonsense--they either work or they don't--but I waited. Unpreparedness: I showed up Monday and it wasn't ready. He tried to push it back another two days, and only after I insisted on having it back did he tell me to return in two hours. Faulty Work: When I finally picked it up, the chronograph worked for a few minutes before the second hand jammed again. The worst part came when I took it to a different, reputable shop for a second opinion. They confirmed that the movement was never actually replaced. The "old" movement the guy gave me in a bag as "proof" was actually a brand-new movement, meaning he basically charged me nearly $400 to polish the watch and hand me a spare part I didn't need while leaving the broken movement inside. This place is deceptive and does not do quality work. Save your money and your time--go to a legitimate professional instead.

I started coming to the store to get new batteries for my watches. Over time sharing coinage and his prideful showing of some pieces he has and would love to get more. He'll do free appraisals. I asked him where's the money in that? No, it's about a love of coins and stamps. He put it this way: "Just to be able to see a particular certain rare coin or stamp, just see it without touching it, it's like a holy Grail experience." I've seen him do with customers who feel the same way about him as I do. And I'm seen him calm people who are suspicious of him. And he's a rare breed. Quite established. Been on the corner across the street from Dino the green Apatosaurus dinosaur since dinosaurs roamed the earth (on Freeport Blvd.). And he's got those fancy fufu machines that ascertain alloys, track satellites, perform alchemy, and look like they're really important. Okay, I might have embellished that last sentence a bit and show I have no idea what about talking about, but otherwise I stand by everything I said about the shop in my aim to be as transparent as possible in giving my honest assessnent. When he and the misses retire we lose a service that was high caliber and are few and hard to find. Kinda like the dinosaurs. Dino is still there!

Sad news indeed, but thee are the times we live in. Press a buzzer and you will be ushered into not a speakeasy but a very special store that feels more like an art exhibit and stage set that ushers you into another world. All your senses are engaged, from the tinkling of wind chimes, to a tapestry of textures and colors found in beautiful objects of art. The store offers miniature treasures to exquisite full scale sculptures and everything in between. I had read about this import store and followed them online, but nothing can capture the essence of this marvelous retail store unless you enter the space. I came here seeking purple themed treasures for my sibkid's 21st birthday. The owner and a staff member went above and beyond to help me in my quest, and I definitely was inspired at the incredible selection and artistic displays. It was also educational shopping here as I read about the various history and meaning of the objects with informative signage. Your budget can be a few dollars or into the thousands, there is a big range of price points here. High value items are understandably behind glass cases. The displays were breathtaking and were thematically arranged by geographical region/country; Asia, Africa, Mexico/Central and South America, etc. I have not enjoyed a shopping experience this much in years! It reminded me of the locally owned stores I shopped at when I was a kid growing up in a small college town that had tons of independent shops, and how much fun it was. It made me realize how much we have been sold a bill of goods with the chain and big box stores taking over our society. We've been robbed of community, connection, art, and supporting our local economy all for a soulless exchange of "convenience" and "lower prices." Having completed my mission, I was awed when the owner proceeded to carefully and artistically wrap each item and then use custom gift paper (purple, of course!) and ribbon to create the perfect gift box for my sibkid. He included informative write ups of the objects when applicable and told me some additional wonderful stories about the provenance and sourcing of several items. I even got a great local restaurant recommendation! Pleasant shopping experience, great value, and absolute win with my sibkid, who delightedly opened each treasure that evening. I was definitely "winning" as an Auntie thanks to Zanzibar Trading. If you can't make it in person, they have a Facebook live auction every Saturday. But definitely try to go in person. It's a unique, one of a kind store that is a transformative retail experience and provides the perfect place for gift shopping for a loved one or yourself. Go.You deserve it! Free parking in their adjacent lot. Across from the Broadway Target and Golden One credit union.

A machinist & single, considering such an expensive watch must have taken him a long time to earn the cash to purchase such a beautiful time piece. He only wore it for special occasions. It is in excellent condition. Not a scratch on the watch crystal (face). The wind up stem broke about 6 months ago. I was devastated. Who could I trust to fix my dad's watch? The answer, Paul's Watch repair in Sacramento! 100 miles from Chico! A multi-generational watch repair business going back over 125 years in Romania and then brought over to the US where the family business has been located in the Sacramento area since 1989! Please read their history on their webpage. The watch wind up stem was replaced within a week and my dad's watch is good as new! The service provided to me by Paul Jr. was professional, courteous and this senior gentleman a few years older than myself, was kind and informative. BTW: We both look much younger than our ages! Paul patiently explained the mechanism of my watch that needed to be repaired. He also shared with me his knowledge of how to maintain the operation of a watch that has no battery or wind up stem. It continues to operate with motion. I have two of these watches. All while continuing to work on a repair of one of many watches they fix daily. Many arrive from other US states! I also met his son Raimond, who was busy in the back on watch projects. If you have a watch repair or would like an education or suggestions regarding your watch or watches in general, research no further! Take a drive to Paul's Watch Repair or mail your precious time piece to their business location for repair. You will not be disappointed! The cost for the repair of my Dad's watch was reasonable and they replace watch batteries while you wait, maybe 5 minutes!

First of all, I understand your frustration, but what I don't understand is how you generalized me…read moreinto a category of people who "modify" watches in a condescending way while just raising your voice the entire conversation. Raimond, please learn to be humble, respect your dad, and also learn how to treat/respect your customers. Heads up to anyone bringing an expensive watch or a lower priced watch to this shop, Raimond the son will not care if he leaves dust in your watch and just blame it on manufacturing defects as an excuse of his lack of craftsmanship. Also, I didn't even notice the scratch you left on my watch from swapping the glass and this plus that whole situation that happened is why I am leaving a one star. You are not competent to be repairing watches if you can't swap a crystal without leaving dust in the watch and scratching the watch in the process. I brought in my new Seiko watch that I had purchased weeks prior to changing out the crystal. Paul the shop owner said it would be $40 and to give them a couple of days. The job was done hours later on the same day, but I picked it up days later. On arrival I inspected the watch in the shop for any dust and there was a lot. I gave it back to Raimond who had said his father Paul had swapped the glass and that he himself would remove the dust. I came back days later after it was done and I again inspected it. There was still a lot of dust so I told Raimond about it and this is where he got heated and started raising his voice blaming the quality of the watch and sapphire glass. He said "all you Seiko people who want to modify your watches always have something to say when you get your watches back. Of course you will see dust when looking at it under a macro lens". (I was looking at it with my bare eyes in the shop) I calmly talked to him telling him that it is not the watch face or crystal because before bringing it here it was brand new, I inspected it when I purchased it and it had never been opened before. He goes on yelling on how he got into an argument with his dad on how his dad who swapped the crystal first should have done a better job. He then brought up how some Rolex have defects and that my watch since it is a Seiko, is guaranteed that it will have defects. He kept going on about how it was not dust and it was the watch face or the crystal. This entire time his father Paul is sitting next to me while his son is yelling and I was not trying to argue with this man in front of his dad who is a lot older. I felt sorry for Paul and how his son Raimond handled this situation. Eventually we did not get anywhere, Raimond said he would not open it back up because he was set on that it was manufacturing defects on the watch face or crystal. For future customers hopefully this review is a warning on how Raimond treats his customers. Paul seemed like a cool guy when I met him on the first day that I dropped off my watch. Raimond, if you don't have the skill to do a job like this just tell me and I will take it to another watch shop instead of yelling at me and blaming it on manufacturing defects on the watch or crystal. Just own up to your mistakes like a grown man that you are and don't act like a child throwing a tantrum.

Upon the initial visit I met with one of the owners, Kevin who was very friendly and was able to assist us with determining the proper sizing of the ring. He mentioned it would take about a week to complete. The cost to resize (1 size down) a gold ring and platinum ring was $120. When picking up the rings I met with the other owner, Nick. He included sale's tax even though CA sale's tax is only applicable to purchasing materialistic items and not services. I explained that CA sale's tax is not applicable to services and he could verify this information with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) which is the CA State Department that administers the Seller's Permit which is required to operate the business. I even offered to show him exactly where this information could be found on the CDTFA website since he had a computer nearby. He declined and said he wasn't changing how he charges customers even though he refunded me the illegally charged sale's tax. It was interesting to encounter a business owner oblivious to the law while declining to learn and apply the law to prevent an audit, fees, and potential Seller's Permit revocation by the CDTFA.
