Here is my review of my recent experience with this establishment:
I brought my laptop in for repair because my son poked the laptop camera and damaged/creased the plastic camera cover on the bezel. Aside from the damage on the lens cover, the laptop was functioning perfectly and did not have any other damage.
On Tuesday, May 18, 2021, I dropped off the laptop to Elk Grove Computer Services to repair/replaced the cameras lens cover. During the check in process with the owner, I turned on the laptop to show him that the camera was blurred because of the crease on the camera lens cover. With the laptop powered on, we both saw that the laptop was functioning just fine. The owner instructed me to turn laptop off and that he will diagnose the problem on his own time. The owner said that he will provide a free diagnosis of the problem and proceeded to take down my contact information.
The following day around noon time, he texted me to provide his repair quote of $30 plus $2.50 tax for camera and $85 for labor. I told him to go ahead and proceed with the repair of the lens cover. Later that afternoon, he texted me a picture of the laptop screen showing a vertical white line on center of the screen. He called and asked if I remembered if there was damage on the screen. I told him that there was no other damage aside from the camera lens cover and I reminded him that I turned on the computer at his office during the check in process and the LCD screen was not damaged in any way. He simply explained that he will order the parts to repair. He did not actually address what he was going to do about the screen.
On May 28, 2021, I contacted the owner for a status update and he stated that the laptop was ready to be picked up. I scheduled the pick up on June 1, 2021. When I arrived to pick up the laptop and inspected it, I noticed that the lens cover was completely removed. Essentially, he popped off the camera cover on the bezel and the camera was not even replaced. Mind you, he charged me $30 plus $2.50 tax for the repair/replace the camera cover repair.
In addition to not repairing the camera lens cover, he actually replaced the laptop screen and charged $150.00 without informing me that he was going to charge me for the repair of the damage that he had caused. In a nutshell, he broke the LCD screen, replaced it, and charged me for the screen. On top of this, when I insisted/explained that the screen was not broken when I brought it in initially, he said the lines on the screen was not showing any damage because the LCD was sealed and that my son broke the LCD screen. He explained that when he "unsealed" the laptop screen to inspect the camera, the LCD screen broke.
I came to him as a honest customer to repair the camera lens cover. All he had to do was to replace the bezel/lens cover. Instead he removed the lens cover completely, left the camera bare, and charged me $150.00. He said that he gave me a discount. LOL. When I tried to reason with him by explaining that there was no damage on the screen, he took my laptop, placed it on the shelf behind the counter, and said "your laptop is here. sue me." To my regret, I paid him $150.00 for the damage he had caused and he did not fix the problem that I came to him with, which was to replace the camera lens cover. Instead, he removed the camera lens cover completely and charged me for the repair damaged LCD screen that he caused.
I do not recommend this business to any one. read more
