    French Onion Soup SLAPS!
    Steve G.

Rolled into Buffalo for a college visit with the crew--me, my wife, my daughter, her friend, AND her parents. Basically a full caravan. While the girls went off to do some top-secret dance adventure with the college dance team, the adults did what adults do best: find food immediately. We ended up in the Allentown district at Gabriel's Gate, which honestly feels like walking into a cool old lodge... if that lodge also doubled as a taxidermy museum. I mean, there were enough mounted animals staring at us that I felt like I needed to apologize for ordering wings. Food? Fire. Wings slapped. Sandwiches hit. Portions were Buffalo-sized--which is to say, massive enough to make you question your life choices halfway through. Service? Solid. Friendly, fast, no nonsense. Exactly what you need when you've been college-touring and pretending to know what FAFSA is. Now let's talk about this booth. This booth tried to end me. Straight-up wooden bench seats that felt like sitting on a park bench during detention. My back was like, "Sir... why have you done this to us?" Do yourself a favor and sit at a table with actual chairs... or hit the bar like a seasoned Allentown pro. Overall? Cool spot, great food, funky vibes, and a built-in collection of wildlife silently judging you while you eat. Would 100% return--just not to that bench of doom.

This place showed up on half a dozen lists of the best wings in Buffalo and they earned it. We got an order of the wings and shared it and they were delicious. Maybe the best wings we had while we were in Buffalo: The place also has a great classic pub vibe, great beer and friendly staff. However, we should have stopped at the wings. My husband got the burger and it was pretty bland. I got the Cottage Street sandwich, which is their version of the classic Beef on Weck, and it was dry as a bone and not served on a recognizable kummelweck roll. The moral of the story is, chow down on the wings, skip the sandwiches.

I'm on the hunt to try all the proclaimed best wing spots in all of Buffalo & it was time I tried Gabriel's. The location was fairly small so expect a wait. Street parking only + I wasn't a big fan of the surrounding area the restaurant was located. Just not the best imo. The wings took a decent amount of time to come. The flavor was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The wings were not greasy or overly GMO'd, overall clean bird. I enjoyed these wings, they didn't make me feel gross after but I wouldn't say these are the best EVER. They are good though!

I was told to get the French onion soup and the wings. And yes, both were excellent and so was Alana's service at the bar. I'll be back.

Our first stop for dinner in Buffalo. Our waitress (Mary) was quick and so very kind. The serving sizes were so large and filling. The boys all enjoyed the wings and I loved my burger. Overall, was a very pleasant experience!

Really interesting decor. Carly was our server and she was excellent. Went on a Friday night and of course it was slammed. We did 20 minutes or so for a table. French onion soup and chicken wings were good.

So wifey and I are on a typical road tripping vacation. The hotel staff found out I wanted wings of course. They recommended Gabriel's gate as a local favorite as opposed to the hyped up one. The wings were good. We got mild spice. Their blue cheese burger was a bit dry considering I ordered it cook medium. Wifey had a cheese steak sandwich and it was very good. Especially the next day with a light nuke in the microwave. The server was fabulously helpful and friendly. Place was super busy and everyone really seemed to be enjoying the vibe of the place. It's a shame that we live a few thousand miles away because we would definitely be back.

I ended up coming here twice... Once for my own set of chicken wings with the buffalo sauce .. I must say they are very good wings and very nicely sauced. The second time My coworkers ended up going out so I went with them and I ordered the beef taco salad. My coworkers though did end up ordering Buffalo wings. The weird thing was though they both ordered mild and for some reason one set came out hot and it wasn't appreciated as much as the mild sauce. I do enjoy that they make their own blue cheese dressing.. overall, the ambience of the restaurant was really neat, very Buffalo like.

Best wings in Buffalo hands down!!! Family and I had dinner there this week. We had wings, French onion soup and fettuccine Alfredo. All were fantastic! The portions were HUGE. The wings had great flavor, fried perfectly...crisp yet moist inside. Our service was great...and the decor is very very cool. Definitely will be back and highly recommend.

Stop #1 on my wing tour and my favorite. Sauced perfectly, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Just a solid wing. Probably top 3 in all of Buffalo

I was with a party of 6, we came in last-minute at around 10:30pm a few weeks ago. We were seated right away. They don't offer separate checks at all, and parties of 6 or more has 18% gratuity already included. Gabriel's Gate is known for their wings, which is why my colleagues and I stopped in, to show one of our out-of-towners what a real chicken wing tastes like! The wings were great, but unfortunately the medium was too spicy for my liking. The burgers were huge and the fries that it came with were more than enough.

One of my all-time favorites and I never reviewed it? OMG what's wrong with me? I love this place. The dishes are American traditional from sandwiches to full dinners. The bar is great. Service is wonderful, but keep in mind your food is prepared to order and this is not fast food. Plan to sit and enjoy yourself and your company in a historic Allentown setting. GG is famous for their wings, but everything on the menu is delicious. Be sure to have soup if you are a soup lover. Handicap accessibility is not easy. There are some steps and doors to contend with. There might be a rear entrance through the patio that you can use. The restaurant is half-way between Delaware Ave and Elmwood Ave on Allen St. Very easy to get to on bus #11 Colvin, #20 Elmwood, #25 Delaware and it's a 2-block walk from Allen/Medical Campus Metro Rail station.

Having tried another place earlier, lots of folks had Gabriel's Gate on their short lists for wings. They weren't wrong. The naked wings were nicely fried with a really good balance between crispy and moist. The sauce was plentiful. I happen to like Frank's, so these wings paired really well with the homemade blue cheese. Allie was an extraordinary server. She really made dinner fun. These wings are going to be hard to beat.

We were in a bind in late 2021 when my mom came to visit and we tried again. I had left a three star review after that, but eventually felt guilty and removed it because they're in our neighborhood. Since it's been several years we decided to try again. Their Instagram post advertised a smash burger and fish sandwich specials. Right up our alley! We called up and ordered takeout. The young woman on the phone was very pleasant. The pickup experience was fine...the food? Not so good and definitely not worth $18 for each meal. The double cheeseburger patties had a spongy texture and didn't seem like a smash burger. I'm pretty sure they're pre-formed frozen pucks...or at the very least they taste like it. The fish filet sandwich was crispy and initially looked delicious, but the actual fish inside ended up being soooo mushy...very unpleasant. I had to throw it out after two bites, the texture of the fish was so off-putting. The french fries that came with both sandwiches were generous and tasted fine enough, but they were all such short pieces. I mean, I want at least a few full sized fries, yah know? This disappointing experience confirms our opinion of Colter Bay...for the fourth time. We won't be trying again for a few years.

God bless her, as I was so dehydrated I was starting to feel like a raisin. The atmosphere here is pub-style. We felt perfectly comfortable eating there as a family. Obviously I had to try a local specialty, and I was not disappointed! The Beef on Weck was fantastic. Something about the combination of flavors just works. Plus the beef was tender... not an ounce of tough bits or gristle. And the au jus was so flavorful! Big Daddy actually drank some of it straight like a beverage. The poutine was fantastic! The wings were hot and juicy. The other sandwiches we ordered (chicken mushroom swiss and prime rib) were also top tier. The only oddity was that the salad was arugula. Our server warned us of it so we were prepared, but it still seemed odd. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Would definitely visit again!

Instead, the place felt more like a cavernous tourist stop than the legendary wing destination I had imagined. The wings were good, but not great. We ordered them dry so we could try several sauces, and to their credit, the wings themselves were cooked perfectly. The sauces, however, were underwhelming. We tried the garlic parmesan, the original, and the extreme heat sauce, which I believe was called "Suicidal." They all seemed to rely heavily on cayenne and butter, with limited complexity and less heat than expected. Maybe I've been spoiled by other wing spots with more creative sauces and better blue cheese and ranch, but these just didn't stand out. That said, the service was great, and I appreciated the staff. I'm glad I went for the history, but based on the food alone, it didn't live up to the hype.

We were given ample time for our entire party to arrive and were not rushed at all. Our waitress was wonderful. I was debating between a couple items on the menu and opted for a salad. I ordered the Beet & Burrata salad ... um lol well if you would call it that. Two of us ordered this and we both were surprised when it came out to say the least. Basically a couple pieces of lettuce on top of chopped beets under a spicy-ish hollandaise type dressing over burrata. Or I'm assuming the dressing was what was a tad spicy. However I couldn't figure it out lol. There were a couple tiny smoked peach pieces on the side...just too smoky for my taste. Would have preferred just a fresh grilled peach. Also added a side of chicken to toss on my "salad" thinking it had a whole bed of lettuce, however could have avoided ordering that had I seen a picture of this salad beforehand - so I threw that in for you all in case you're on the fence of what to order. It was fine, it tasted like uncrisp tater tots. If there was a sauce of sorts to dip it in, it would have been better besides just potato. For mains we shared two half pizzas the Fig& Pig and the Pepperoni + Honey. They were both fine, they were half sized but still didn't seem like a lot. The person I was with thought it was too much fig, but I had no problem so that is preference. Though the pork belly was mainly fat. The people with us weren't fans of their food either. They also added Truffle fries and were told it would be extra which they agreed to, but it was an additional $9 not jut 2 or 3. For the service, we assumed it was all due to the massive party but it wasn't that great. We were right in front of the bartender and our water was refilled once the entire time we were there. We also didn't get silverware and when we asked for napkins we got a single paper one. We were also at the end of the bar which is where the severs would stand or get the food which was directly next to us which was a bit annoying due to the proximity, they were as close as sitting next to us at a table.
