This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Calaveras County by far. They have the best chips and salsa. Ask for the hot salsa. I had the wet carnitas burrito and it was amazing! The marinated pork was bursting with flavor. They also have Italian dishes which I have not tried yet. I definitely will be back. I highly recommend this place to anybody in the area. read more

I've been craving chicken enchiladas with green sauce for weeks, and finally caved. I had heard that Gabby's was good, but hadn't had a chance to check them out yet. They did not disappoint! The chicken was on point, obviously freshly grilled as opposed to being the shredded stuff that some other Mexican restaurants in the area keep at unsafe temperatures for extended periods of time. Walked in Saturday at 1:30 and we eventually had a good meal. The wet burrito was delicious, the tamale was Okay. While waiting for our meal more folks started showing up. The staff person worked very hard but was completely swamped. One server was valiantly trying to cover the whole place. In spite of being buried with customers they continued to seat folks many of whom left after waiting for far too long. On Labor Day weekend they were totally unprepared. Almost laughable to see them doing takeout orders while they couldn't take care of the customers they had. If I was one of the few staffers I'd have strong words for the manager. read more

My mother and I had a nice lunch at Gabby's. It is nice to find a reasonably priced place in Murphys. It seems that the restaurant prices have really jumped over the last 5 years. So Gabby's was a nice alternative. We had the sopes and soft tacos. We especially liked the sopes which is a masa base that is topped with refried beans, meat, salsa, and cheese. We had one with carnitas and green sauce and the other with al pastor and red sauce. Both were delicious and topped with a generous amount of meat for $3.50 each. We had a couple $3.00 al a carte tacos which were also served with a generous amount of meat, onions, cilantro, and red or green salsa. The chips and salsa were made in house. We asked for some additional hot sauce and were brought out a home made green avocado salsa that was very good and not overly spicy. Definitely ask for the spicy green salsa. You won't be disappointed. Lunch for 2...$22 including tip. FYI. As of this writing, they don't have a beer and wine license yet, but should be coming soon. read more

3.5 stars Pleasant server, great location with outdoor seating. Had the mole chicken and the sauce was really good and the portion almost too much. (not a bad thing) but they should have brought out more corn tortillas so balance they amount of chicken. The other dish was a taco bowl with chicken. This was the disappointment. It lacked flavor. First of all calling this place authentic Mexican food is a far far stretch... and the pasta they have is also very can/jar. Besides the food being very can and microwave the service was worse than a truck stop diner. Waited 20 min for a refill of a soda from a machine that I could see in my eye sight. My sister in law told the waiter 2 times not to forgot my nieces Salmon and after all yhe plates come out and he didnt serve my niece we wait patiently for about 15 min and then we ask him and he is completely obvious to what Salmon we ment . So food is sub-par , service was horrible. Then at the end of it when we finally got the Salmon it was old and tasted like rubber. The bill was hilarious because they tried to charge us for tortillas that came with the meal and the Salmon that we only got half the meal and 40 min after everyone elses food came out. Now lets say you just want a drink that is also a very disappointing bottom shelf watery margarita. All and all this place sucked! read more

Stopped in here on Veteran's Day after the wait at a very-nearby restaurant was over 20min in the middle of the day. The place was almost empty except for a friendly older couple who immediately asked us if we'd been here before, because if not, we were going to love it. They were right! This place is a hidden, undiscovered gem! I know that someday soon there will be many more customers inside on the regular. Excellent food with large portions! Very clean restaurant. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the town at the same time.

Service was horrible. We sat down and were completely ignored. A table that walked in ten minutes after us was served first as we sat and watched them enjoy their food for fifteen more minutes before our food finally came out. When I asked the waitress about why they did not serve us our food in order she got very defensive and said the other table had ordered first, which was not true. We were never checked on even though we were a party of seven with three children. To get our bill we had to stand by the counter and ask several employees for our bill, again we were ignored. Food was good but definitely not worth the horrible service. We will not be coming back. read more

We had lunch here last Wednesday, i had the brushetta which was the best I have ever had. The flavors blended and melted in your mouth. Service was prompt and friendly, and fresh homemade chips and homemade salsa were on the table immediately. The waitress helped my choose from a fairly big menu. She recommended the regular wet burrito as a popular item (It is called wet because the sauce is poured on top). I chose carnitas and it was a good call.Because they had a special on the menu I got a drink free with lunch. The burrito was massive, fresh ingredients wrapped in a flour tortilla with a mildly spiced red sauce. Topped with cheese and a sprinkle of cilantro, everything was cooked properly and tasted great. It was more than I could eat, so I brought it home for later. Total bill was less than $10 (plus tip). The owner is also the cook and her name really is Gabby (maybe Gabriella?) a friendly and cheerful person. The place is relatively new and has not yet built a following. The location is actually on Main Street, though the door faces the side street so do not be fooled, it is near all the wineries and shops in town. This is one of three Mexican places in Murphys, and at this point I would rank it above the others, even though I like them too. read more

This was my first visit to Gabby's and the meal was great from start to finish. Her fresh made tortilla chips with salsa were very light and delicious. The regular margarita I ordered was one of the best I have had in a long time. I ordered enchiladas with steak meat and red sauce which were accompanied by very creamy refried beans, rice and a small salad which were all very delicious. All 3 of our meals were terrible. I had to send back my tamale as it was still frozen on the inside. Got a steak burrito instead and it was not good. The meat was not good, the red sauce was odd, kind of like marinara almost. Nachos weren't even good and how do you screw up nachos? This place was so surprisingly good! We were starving and didn't want to empty the bank in order to eat at alchemy, and we stumbled upon this new restaurant. We decided to try the al pastor sope and pork tamale, both with red sauce. The sope was the best thing I've ever had from any Mexican restaurant I've ever gone to. The al pastor had a delicious char and it was just so delicious. The tamale masa was light and just the right amount of sweet. The only thing I would suggest is adding more pork to the tamale. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars. The waitress was also very sweet and left us alone which is exactly how I like it. Definitely worth a try! read more

The setting is friendly, with a roomy indoors dining area and (when the weather permits) a comfortable outdoor area. We are locals and eat here often. Maybe even too often! The portions, especially the burritos, are large. The carnitas tacos are delicious. The nachos will fill you up for the rest of the day. We heard good things about this place and were excited to try it out. There's not much ambience inside, but we were hoping the food would make it well worth it. I made reservations because Murphys had a popular concert going on and it was a crowded early evening. When you walk in this place to be seated you don't even know where to stand because there's no obvious spot to be greeted and to wait. We did get seated quickly and were served chips and salsa, but we were completely ignored for over 20 minutes. Not one person even acknowledged us to tell us they'll be with us soon, let alone take our drink order at the very least. It was clear that they were busy and didn't have the experience or the training to handle a busy night. One server was only helping one table the entire time and one young server was putting people on a waitlist and not doing much else. There was a kid helping out the same table the entire time as well. The table next to us were also ignored the entire time we were there and probably walked out as well. This turned out to be an excellent choice for Mexican food. The Mole was fabulous. The corn tortillas and chips were high quality home made, very tasty--I judge hard on chip quality! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were walking through town and found them by accident. It was a bit warm so we ate inside and the interior is obviously new, attractive and very clean. Very poor food and service. Had lunch there yesterday with my boyfriend and our 2.5 year-old. They were not busy and still service was very slow, after the waitress brought our food we never saw her again. I had to go in and ask for more napkins and refill on our drinks. I had the super wet burrito, was suppose to come w sour cream and it had none. The burrito tasted like they used two day old ingredients and almost no meat. My daughter got a dry over cooked obviously frozen hamburger patty. My boyfriend had a Cesar salad he said was ok. The prices are way to high as well, not worth the money.
