I selected a 4 star review based on my experiences there prior to Covid. They have many stylists, some better then others. Some specialize in short hair, some in Bayalage,etc. The salon is very attractive & clean. I'm sure they've changed by now but the front desk employee I had contact with back then was awful, rude & sorry to say not very intelligent. When I went to check-in she immediately went into attack mode & very rudely accused me of no showing my last appointment. She was 100% wrong, they had cancelled on me due to some kind of problem, no water or no electricity, I can't remember now. The owner tried to make it right by offering a product they sell, Oribe brand,for free. I refused to take it on principal so there could be no question that I was right, employee was out of line and I clearly wasn't looking for anything. Smells like a relaxing spa upon entering. Scheduled an appointment this morning for 2p same day, where as a lot of Salons are closed on a Monday. $45 wash & dry. My stylist was late so being my first time here I thought they forgot about me. The receptionist went back to check & apologized. Shawn (sp?) my stylist was just finishing up & also apologized. All good, I was just worried since I'm on a tight travel schedule. The shampooing area felt like a true spa. Low spa music, serenity & beautiful. The shampoos bowls held the most comfortably neck rest ever especially bein from Vegas. Loved it & Shawn's most marvelous scalp massage! She dried my hair straight as I requested & I was on my way. She was very nice & I will be back. Upon settling the bill & tip, the receptionist said the manager left me an Oribe Detangling Product for the inconvenience. Love G. Michael Salon! They are so professional and very welcoming. Upon entering they will get you checked in and will ask if you would like a drink while you wait. I wasn't able to get any pictures of the salon itself but the waiting area was comfortable and relaxing.I highly recommend you to make an appointment because they book up fast! Luckily I was able to get in for a hair cut the next day, but if you are wanting a color than you will need to prebook a few weeks in advance! I had Chelsea and asked for a blunt cut at the bottom, keep my length, add curtain bangs that end at the tip of my nose and subtle layers that blend with my length but frame my face. Chelsea was amazing! She gave me exactly what I wanted and did a lovely job at giving me curtain bangs. I was nervous with trying something different but she definitely met my expectations even more so. I love love love my new hair. Pricing was not bad at all for what you are getting. I was getting just a haircut and that includes a shampoo and blowout style after. That cost me around $80 without tip. Definitely not a bad price for what I was asking! I definitely feel comfortable going to G. Michael for all of my hair cut looks! I debated writing this, but if I can save even one other person from a repeat of what I went through, it'll have been worth the energy. First of all, this isn't about my hair. My cut and color were fine, no complaints. The one star is down to the harrowing experience I had in the salon on 8/26/21. G Michael has a separate room that you go into for your shampoo/conditioning + developer and toner. Shortly after my stylist took me in there to rinse my balayage & do those next steps, another woman and her stylist walked in, yammering away. This room has dim lighting and stone-lined walls and is billed as a "relaxing/soothing" part of the salon experience. I think there's even a sign that asks people to speak in hushed voices? But it's not like I went there for a zen retreat; I went to get my hairs did, so whatever, talk away. Except then, it turned out that this woman was going on non-stop--at full volume--with totally toxic nutjob conspiracy theory BS. The stuff about Target's secret agenda would've made me laugh if it was just that. The part about Jay-Z & Beyonce's "symbology" and how they're brainwashing people felt a liiiittle unhinged; but still not hugely offensive (unless you're Beyonce or Jay-Z, I guess). But my nervous system went on high-alert when she starting talking about the kind of dangerous stuff that gets people killed, touting Alex Jones, and how he has some pretty good ideas if you watch his YT videos. There was a whole screed about how any life, even just the tiniest spark, is a miracle, and [I'll save you her next extreme opinions, which I don't even want to repeat on the same day that women's bodily autonomy was dealt such a huge blow]. Then she went in on the January 6th attack on the Capitol, and how her [father in law? brother's girlfriend's dad?] was there fighting the good fight, and all the wild stuff he said happened and on and on and on like it was this fun antic. I live in D.C., just over a mile from the Capitol. Whatever your politics: that's not a fun story; it was a flippin' violent and terrifying event taking place in my neighborhood. I get that the service industry doesn't get to choose their customers, but her stylist wasn't just tolerating this woman's spew. She was ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING IN IT the entire time. (Naturally, the woman also took off her mask when she walked in, coughed several times, apologized for coughing...and left her mask off the entire time she jabbered away.) You can't really change your mind once all the gunk is in your hair, but by the end of 30-40 minutes of what felt like non-stop verbal assault, I couldn't believe I was giving my money to a business where this was tolerated. Every muscle in my body was tensed up, and I just wanted out of there as fast as possible. Despite my stylist's whispered apologies and a decent scalp massage, I left the salon with a giant migraine. In conclusion: 0/10, not psyched I gave G Michael my money, do not wish that experience on anybody else. read more

Sad to say I am back looking for a salon again. I used to go to G Micheal but it is a bit of a drive so when my stylist left I tried something closer to home, but didn't find a good salon. Recently I wanted a completely new style (short but not pixie short) and called for an appointment telling them what I wanted and was flexible in time and price to allow time to get an experienced stylist. I was put with a new stylist that did very well following the cut I had but did not know what to do about the new style. I did not bring a picture of what I wanted, I was hoping for a stylist who could recommend a style that suited me and my curly hair that needs some coxing to not go flat. I was so anticipating the change. I left very discouraged that when asking for an experienced stylist they still put you with the new one that needs to build clientele. I didn't want to complain because she was fine for her skill level, I would use her to maintain a style but that is not what I asked for, I felt duped. read more

Pre-appointment: when I called to book an appointment, I had a lot of questions and the girl who I spoke with was very helpful. She was very polite and professional. I also got a reminder text to my phone before m appointment. Appointment: I got my hair cut and colored with June, who was considered one of the "newer" hairstylists (I'm not exactly sure what the rankings are called). I like their ranking system because it allows for new stylists to get the experience they need and for customers to pay more affordable prices! June was honestly so great. I liked the transparency / communication involved in the process -- I don't know anything about hair, so I appreciate that she took the time to explain what could happen in the hair dyeing process. FINALLY, the BEST PART. The secret spa room where you get your hair washed is amazinggggg. It's so incredibly relaxing and I've never had a hair experience like this before. I called and asked for their BEST blonde specialist, they initially recommended me to Patrick, who I later found out from another stylist was actually not very good at all. And he doesn't work there anymore. Disappointing they booked me with someone based on THEIR needs and not mine. Next I was booked with another stylist, who I liked as a person, but unfortunately was very disappointed in the work they delivered. I've gone back and forth for two months whether or not to leave this review. I don't want what happened to me to happen to someone else. I went in for consult, asked for baby lights and a root shadow for the most natural grow out possible. This was the most important thing to me, natural grow out. I must have said it 100 times! If the stylist didn't know how to do the service they should have said. Instead he agreed and said he could. Clearly he could not! I haven't had hard lines like this since I was in high school. SO disappointed in this salon. I trusted them and their recommendations but they book based on their needs, not mine. Beware! Also paid $400 for this service that I could have gone ANYWHERE to get. I've tried this salon on several occasions with varied results. Sometimes I walked out feeling nice, sometimes ok and most recently, unacceptable. The one thing I can say is consistent: I was always surprised by the cost and not in a good way. I wanted to give this place every benefit of the doubt because I wanted to love it there. The salon itself is nice with a great atmosphere. It feels like you're getting an "experience". However, it is not worth the cost. Prices seem subjective and additions for "special color" or "extra thick" hair are the norm here. They will charge you for literally everything. My last experience cost me almost $300 because I got 3 pieces of balayage, root touch up and a highlight in my bangs. The result was awful and left me embarrassed to part my hair any other way than the way it was first styled. I asked for at least a partial refund which they said is against their policy but they agreed to fix it (with an appointment set for a week later). Bottom line: They don't seem conscientious of clients and their budgets and will readily tack on additions without consultation. Their staff communication (especially from front desk booking to stylist) is very poor. The stylists are friendly. But I am thoroughly disappointed and wouldn't recommend wasting your money here. I ended up finding someone else who could squeeze me in sooner and fixed my unreasonably expensive bad dye job at a much more reasonable cost. Needless to say, I found my new colorist and I won't go back. My advice? Keep looking! read more

UPDATE: After some back and forth, Greg called me and apologized. He said he realized his business wasn't doing all it could to notify clients about their policies. He also refunded my gift card and offered several ways he felt he could make it right. He went above and beyond doing so. I appreciate Greg's phone call and the conversation that we had. -------------------------------- I can't leave a review on how they actually do hair because I never made it into the chair. I missed my first appointment because I had a family emergency. Total accident. I felt awful. I was charged $220. I called and really appreciated them understanding the situation. They refunded me and allowed me to reschedule - an appointment weeks out. I stayed patient based on referrals from friends and these good reviews. I finally walked in the door and was excited to get my hair done. Before I could even get my name out to check in, though, the girl at the front desk asked if someone was coming to pick up my infant. I don't have child care here. He was sleeping soundly in his car seat and my friend was there getting her hair done - so lucky for me, I would be able to pass him off during my cut or as needed. The girl behind the desk told me that they don't allow kids under the age of 12. I was forced to cancel and had to leave. While I understand the policy and even somewhat respect it (even though this is a place that caters to women - women who have children), not once did G Michael Salon say something about this to me. I never received a confirmation email. The voicemail they left didn't mention a no-kid policy either. So here I am, I just rushed over from work... packed him up and got him out of the car.. and I am unexpectedly not welcome. Meanwhile, at least one - possibly two - stylists made snotty and ignorant remarks to my friend. "Where was she even going to put the baby?" "I don't even understand how you could have a baby with the kind of schedule you have" The girl at the counter was then unwilling to refund the person who got me a gift card for my visit. $175 down the drain. The manager actually said to me that I was upsetting HER. Bottom line, I think this place lacks class. If you're going to have such a strict policy, you need to notify people about it. She's very easy to talk to, she's very professional, and her technique and advice is always spot on. I was hooked after the first appointment and have been back two times since. The look I was trying to achieve was very much nailed by her after seeing a few Pinterest photos. They have an excellent array of products, recommendations and styling tips to give. I ended up paying $65 for my haircut, shampoo and styling. Well worth it and honestly very reasonably priced. These are professionals, not your SportsClips or SuperCuts "stylists". I just moved to the area and googled this salon and it came up in Indy AList. I WISH I had read these reviews. I am in my late 40s and have been coloring my hair since I was in my teens. No one has ever done to my hair what this place has done. (By the way, this is an old profile picture and not currently what my hair looks like) I had them highlight it (I normally go for cool blonde highlights) and based on what has happened, I don't think they toned it. It is BRASSY. So brassy that I am starting to look like a red head. It gets brassier every day. I went in this morning to ask if they would mind toning it for me and fixing the color. I explained that I have never had this happen and I had gotten my hair color done two weeks ago. I was very nice because I thought they would be happy to help me out. It never occurred to me that they would not help me and correct the problem. The manager on duty told me they would be happy to do an all over toning and I would be charged a full price for a full head of color. I. Was. Speechless. I've been coming to G Michael for a few years now and I don't plan on ever leaving! Stevi is my go to girl! If you are looking for a very clean, professional, upscale salon, this is your spot! One thing to note- they do not allow children in their salon, (which is a pro for some). They always offer complimentary drinks (coffee, soda, water), they have a "quiet room" in the middle of the salon that is sound proof that they use for washing your hair (and usually give head massages or a complimentary conditioning treatment if they are running a special that month). Prices are a little on the higher side, but you definitely get what you pay for there. I believe different stylist have different pricing. I normally just get a hair cut and it's about $50, which isn't bad with everything you get. Coloring is where I think they are a bit expensive. Highly recommended if your thinking about trying somewhere new! read more

Tyler is my favorite! I actually found him on Instagram. Having very dark brown hair, I knew I was going to be picky when going lighter. It was definitely a process. Its been a year and a half and I have had 2-3 balayages from Tyler, as well as a corrective color [my mistake!! I had cheated on him :( DONT DO IT!] He never lets me down and because of his technique, I can wait a LONG time between appointments, which helps my wallet. I have been going to G Michael Salon for a couple of years, each year I visited 3-4 times. When I moved to Indiana I decided to do changeover and die my natural brown hair. I picked them based off their colored hair Instagram pictures. Overall after trying several of their stylists I found: - they know how to take care of your hair so it does not get damaged during the hair coloring treatment - best at coloring blond hair not so much brunettes. In some occasions my hair would look very brassy. - Some of the stylists are very average but will still charge you a lot of money. There was not a time I spent less than 200 for haircut and all over color (long hair - a bit above elbow) or $400 if I was doing a partial balayage with a cut. - it takes them several trials before they understand how your particular hair color will react. - Average haircut, sometimes I had to push them to not be afraid and cut more if needed for added volume and body to the hair - really bad at hairstyling, I was better off styling it myself so I never went for just a blowout. I gave them 3 stars because they like to take care of the health of your hair and certain stylists (cue for Tyler) are good at achieving natural looking brunette balayage. However too expensive for the quality of work you'll get. read more

We don't need to be BFFs but if I'm going to be in her chair for a few hours, it would be nice if it's not awkward. Add to this the awful commute up I-69 and it wasn't for me. I have finally found a great salon in the Indianapolis metro area! For the past two years, I have really been missing my salon in Seattle. I have hopped around many of the nicer salons in the Indy area trying to find a good fit here, but nothing really stood out. I had my hair cut by Greg at the G Michael Salon today. Greg had some great ideas for my hair regarding products, blow drying tips, and color/cut/styling. I have naturally curly hair that I blow out and flat iron, so a good cut is very important to me. My haircut looks fantastic, and I am so impressed with the texture of my hair. I am excited to have Greg color my hair on my next visit. I should also mention that they offer online booking via their website...huge plus in my book! I received an e-mail and text message confirming my appointment and reminding me...and I received my receipt via e-mail right after my appointment. I really appreciate the convenience and professionalism of these features! I have been hoping to find a salon of this caliber in Indianapolis, so I am thrilled. AVOID THIS SALON!!! After almost 10 years of going here without a complaint, my family (hubby and 2 kids) and I will NO LONGER return. I receieved an unsatisfactory hair cut and was handled extremely rudely by the manager. After the many years of good service and never having a complaint, I saw told "if didnt like it i could go back to my old stylist from now on." (Manager knew that stylist has moved 2 hours of the away, she no longer works there) I WILL be finding a new salon! Not only will my family not return, but my sister and a couple of friends (who I referred to this salon). Your poor customer satisfaction has immediately just cost you 7 clients!!!) My service is NOT cheap as I use the level 4 or 5 stylists with multiple services each visit. I have spent multiple thousands of dollars at this salon EVERY YEAR. So if you're looking for a new salon, STEER CLEAR. I will make it my duty to inform everyone interested in my solid reference - DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. 2 stars because the stylist themselves are not to blame, this lie squarely on the manager's lack of customer satisfaction. I've been going to this salon for a couple months now. Tyler is the best! He's so nice and knows what he's doing. I am a natural dark brunette with very very long hair, and I walked in back in February asking to be platinum blonde. My hair has been through ombré and various other things and Tyler was able to get me to platinum blonde in one day. That being said, I was there from roughly 9 am to 5 pm but it was worth it! We used Olaplex in the bleach to maintain my hair and I was able to leave without a haircut or any serious damage to my hair. The major downside to this place is the price. It costs me upwards of $200 each time I go just for my roots. It's a beautiful salon but it's definitely not for the faint hearted. One thing I have noticed is the front desk girls are horrible at answering the phones and returning calls. 9 out of 10 times I've called, I've been put on hold for at least 5 minutes. Multiple times I have called with questions and have had to call back a week later, just to find out they had forgotten all about it. All in all: it's a great location, my stylist was awesome, the front desk girls need to work on their phone skills, and it's super pricey. read more

Visited the salon today for balayage highlights and a cut on long hair. I have some grey coming in at the front and Courtney knew exactly what to do! Amazing highlights, and cut and completely covered the area I was concerned about. Conversation was amazing, was offered a drink multiple times while there and really enjoyed the shampoo room that is like a spa experience in itself. Highly recommend for highlights - best I have found in Indy BY FAR! Booking online was easy too - didn't have to call and speak to anyone and go back and forth about dates available. Worth every penny. I booked an appointment after letting an inexperienced hairdresser give me a color that I in no way asked for in Cleveland, OH. My salon back home in SC recommended G Michael, and I was thoroughly impressed by how flexible they were in getting me an appointment the next day. Yes, it was pricey, but man, they fixed everything I didn't like about my hair color. I saw Mackenzie, and she was very upfront and honest about my options to fix it while also "maintaining the integrity of my hair." She is such a great stylist and did an amazing job on my highlights and cut. She was upfront about asking me my expectations and what she was able to deliver. I have no idea why anyone would think that salon is in the top 200 in the country. It's an interesting place in appearance; black is the primary color (stark; not calming). Unlike salons in LA or NYC for example, energy is not allowed. Do not make the mistake of talking in the shampoo room. You are to treat the place as a spa although it's not a spa, it's a shampoo room. Joe is so interested in protecting his revenue that he'll call you if you're on a waiting list for an appointment, but even though the opening is several weeks out, he'll call someone else within minutes if you don't respond immediately. I would not recommend the salon to anyone; very overrated. read more

I went there yesterday for my hair cut,my hair stylist was Emmy,I want to have full undercut with angle pixie bob,I was skeptical at first but the result turn out was awesome!everybody said I look younger and it look better than the old style that I had!The place is beautiful,I know them through Instagram and decided to give it a try since they are the number 1 voted hair salon in Indianapolis!all of the hair stylist here look professional with all black outfit,they will asked you if you want anything to drink when they greeted you at the reception area!i had a wonderful experience at G Micheal salon and I will definitely be back!the price for my haircut was $55 which is fair enough for a professional hair cut from a luxury hair salon!Highly recommend for everybody to come here. read more

Be careful here! I called ahead of time to get an appointment for a blow out and style & ask about pricing and they told me it would be $35. When I was done they told me it was going to be $70 instead because my hair is "thick".... they never once told me throughout the entire appointment until my hair was completely done that it was not going to be the price that they initially told me. I have bounced barber shop to salon trying to find someone competent to cut my hair for many years and even more states. I usually end up tolerating it when I leave; then 2 weeks later it will style properly. Guys we all know the "gentlemen" cut places where the ASSets are shown off, bad haircuts are given, and you don't want your wife to come with you... this is a complete 180 from those places. I walked and was greeted by a warm friendly receptionist offered a beverage and immediately felt comfortable. I had a picture of the style I was after and when I showed it to Hannah her eyes lit up and she was super eager about the style on me. She was very enthusiastic and the conversation never lulled or became awkward. I was nervous about the different cut, but when I saw the finished product I was very pleased. My true test is how a haircut grows out and it only got better with time. I highly recommend Hannah and this salon to any gentlemen looking for a new dapper look. read more

I have been to G Michael Salon quite a few times and I always see the same person and we always have had enough time... this time was different and I wish I would have left before it even started. I showed my stylist a picture and she told me because I unknowingly scheduled a touch up, she couldn't do what I wanted. She instead told me what she wanted to do... I went over it with her a few times and she told me after we were done today, I would need to come back in in a few weeks to do more. This struck me as odd. We had three hours... we've done what I wanted in three hours before... why was this time different? When she finished "brushing the color through my hair" which I wasn't impressed with... she then was told by another stylist to blow dry the girls hair next to her. I sat and waited... so not awful so far but not great either. She does a shampoo and a half ass hand massage and we go back. She cuts and blow dries my hair and IT LOOKS THE EXACT SAME. Still super dark on top... nothing different. All I wanted was highlights!!! This took 2.5 hours!! I ask her after she finishes cutting to cut my bangs a bit shorter... she did but not as much as I would have liked. I pay $120 with tip so $150... for what though? A cut and to curl my hair? I got in my car and cried and cried and cried. I got home and cut my own bangs. I have two weddings the next two weeks and I'm so upset with my hair I can't see straight. I wanted highlights... I didn't know it took 3 hours to do highlights... oh that's right, it doesn't! There are very few times I have been this upset after a haircut... I can't believe it. I like my stylist but I get soooo turned off when hair stylists don't listen to what I want with my own hair!!!!!!! I get they're creative but just listen to me! I don't think I'll be back, it was a HUGE disappointment. Update: Got a call from the manager... she kept saying it wasn't their fault, never offered to truly fix it... just kept pushing it off on me saying I scheduled the appointment myself... I explained, just like they wouldn't understand what I do in finance and he stock market, I don't understand their scheduling system either but I've never walked into a salon and been told I can't do what I want... didn't offer a discount, nothing. Tried to get me to schedule another appointment. Once I declined and told her to cancel my upcoming appointment, she tried to get me to delete the review because she said it could be damaging to the stylist... I never mentioned the stylist's name, intentionally... I like the stylist, I really really do... I feel like this is an issue with the salon's scheduling limitations and organization. I ended up telling the manager bye and hung up. I would like the stylist to know, I hate that this happened because I really enjoy talking to her but I really don't agree with the way the salon does things or handled this issue. read more
