As someone who usually opts for a simple, straight-across cut, I had lost my enthusiasm for haircuts. Until Moxie. Seriously!! I have lived in a few different countries and had my fair share of janky cuts and varying salons. Never have I had a stylist give me actual advice and ask so many questions about my hair. *Cue, Rebecca.* I sat down and expected to simply say how many inches I wanted off. Instead, Rebecca asked me what my concerns about my hair are, what my goals are, what products I'm using, and a picture of what I want. She genuinely cared and just loved doing hair. This review is for a mani-pedi which was one of the worst I've ever had. Know what you're getting into for the steep price and I live in the Seattle area so I'm not a stranger to these prices but expect a lot more. For $30 mani you don't even get your fingers soaked, cuticles pushed back or cut -- you get nails filed and color and not a good polish job either. For $35 pedi you basically get the same thing except a foot soak but NO heel treatment at all. Bottom line is I could have done this myself. Can we give 6 stars? Michael deserves them! I am impulsive with my hair. Over the past few years I let my hair get long and gross before I get the impulse to have it cut RIGHT AWAY. I needed a cut, and I wanted it last minute on a Monday. Good luck right? Most salons are closed on Monday and few of the good ones can accommodate walk-ins or same day appointments. I was so happy when I called Moxie and Michael was able to squeeze me in later that afternoon. I was nervous because I have never had a male stylist before. What wasted anxiety that was! Michael was super friendly, fun to talk to, dished out compliments that made me feel like a million bucks AND gave me a killer cut to boot. I showed him some pictures of what I wanted and he gave me some advice and we settled on the perfect look. He was helpful in telling me what would look good on me and helped me be realistic about time commitment, upkeep etc. He even gave me some inexpensive ideas to help me keep my hair healthy instead of trying to sell me $40 conditioner which I really loved! The cut was great and I have received compliments nonstop since I walked out of the salon. He cut 8 inches off my hair and I left feeling really great! I've been going to Michael's on Mass for about three years and love it! Michael Bowen, the owner, is my stylist and I always look forward to seeing him. If you are having a bad day, his compliments will make you feel beautiful and he gives great hair cuts. I've only had him color or highlight my hair once or twice, so I don't have too much to say about color services, but I have some friends that have had him coloring their hair for years and always look great. He regularly goes to styling trade shows in NY and LA, so he's up-to-date on new trends before they hit Indy. A great salon downtown, without an outrageous downtown price -- his women's cuts are $40. As I type this my fingers hurt. Ruth really is the sweetest of women but considering one of my nails was bleeding while nail polish was being put on, I will not be back. Three of my fingers are scarred. Also, I'm not sure how this even happened but two hours after I had left the salon my manicure went south. I'm not sure why after two hours my nail polish would smudge to make me look like a small child but it did. I love the location of this salon. It is nice with only 5 salon chairs and two nail techs. They offer coffe, tea water etc. They have other services too like body wraps and Botox! i had a groupon that I used here and I was really impressed when I first walked in. The place smelled so good and was clean. I also loved that I was on Mass Ave. Gave it such a nice feel. However, they used semi-permanent hair color on me... which made my hair react very weird. I needed it done in maybe 4 weeks after because the color just washed out. I just wish I would have know he was putting on semi before we began. I will be back someday! Just not sure when :) read more

Wow, I never leave complaints but here it goes. I asked my hair to be dyed including the roots. I am an ashy blonde and wanted to be a platinum blonde. The guy who died my hair (Jason?) dyed my roots the same color as the rest of my hair and left it at that. Not to mention he never penciled me in when I called in for the appointment and didn't show up until I called him and asked where he was. TO TOP IT ALL OFF he charged me $150 (in the end paid $250) more than what he originally told me he was going to and the absolute cherry on top is... The day after he dyed my hair it started falling out by the handfuls. I had to go get my hair treated so it would stop breaking off so much. HUGE CHUNKS OF HAIR MISSING FROM MY HEAD. I beg of you, do not go to this salon. I shouldn't have given him my money in the first place but I was frozen in the moment. BIG MISTAKE. Take your hair somewhere else, please. SERIOUSLY RUN. Since living in Indy, I've tried several stylists and never found anyone who understands the unruly tendencies of cutting curly hair. I tried Moxie because they're close and I was desperate for healthy hair. Gregory was great and I love my cut!! He had to give me a significant trim to make my hair healthy and it's the best.
