I had a blowout with Ransome while visiting the area on business, and I absolutely loved her work. It lasted three days! She did a great job figuring out what I liked and making it happen. Used a curling iron and those curls were SET! The salon is beautiful, with a lot of natural light coming from huge windows through the entire salon. The place has a laid-back, artsy, local vibe that I really liked. The head massage during the shampoo and conditioning part is worth the price of admission! Just relax and enjoy. Will be back the next time I visit Indianapolis! read more

I was in town for a conference and decided to get a blowout to simplify my morning routine and add some confidence for my presentation. WiP was close to the hotel and had good reviews, so I picked a time on their website appointment scheduler and hoped for the best with a random stylist. Amber listened to my needs and did a great job -- my hair looked good the whole weekend (with a little help from dry shampoo on days 3 and 4, with day 4 being an early flight home). I always travel with a satin pillowcase, so that helps. The salon has a cool vibe, with lots of natural light and plants. As others have noted, they are on the second floor and the door is well marked. read more

It is a little confusing to get into the salon, I did not see an elevator as it is on the second floor, so I am not sure if it is wheelchair accessible. I got an awesome shag from Jenna, she did an excellent service, I can't wait to come back. It is such a vibe in the salon. read more

So the story goes, I manically cut too much of my hair off while attempting to trim. Freaking out and knowing I couldn't salvage it myself, I made an appointment with the unparalleled queen of hair, Ransome. I wanted a French Bob and wowww did she deliver. The atmosphere is soooo cool, her scalp massage was divine and I so appreciate the lack of gossip/small talk (small talk being one of the reasons I don't like going to salons). For the first time in a very long time, I left a salon feeling chic and cool. I highly recommend! Ransome, Thank you so much! read more

Wanted a haircut and took a picture . I feel like she only cut 3 hairs and it looked nothing like what I asked for. Head massage was nice, vibe was cool, but extremely disappointed.. 100 bucks ( including tip) don't feel like going back ever again read more

I was in Indianapolis for the weekend for a wedding (a small one!) and had not had time to get my pixie cleaned up before the weekend of the wedding. Kind of irresponsible BUT it really worked out. WiP was the 10th or 11th studio I called and luckily had a spot for Saturday morning. Also, they were very nice on the phone, answered my questions well and even sent an email confirmation (see pictures). The location isn't too far from Monument Circle. From my hotel near the Circle, it was about a 10 minute walk, so it's a convenient location. WiP is on the second floor of its building- it has its own door making it relatively easy to find. You walk upstairs and there is a seating area (where my husband parked it), restrooms and a hand sanitizer area with instructions for entering. The check in process was simple and safe for Covid precautions. My actual hair cut went really well! I got it shampooed and conditioned, then cut and styled (which was perfect for the wedding). The whole process probably took around 40-45 minutes, so I was impressed by the efficient use of time. My stylist was such a great conversationalist, and also had a lot of tips for maintaining or growing out a pixie. 10/10 recommend read more

I got my haircut earlier this week, and it is one of the best haircuts I have ever received! The next day at work I got more compliments that I could count!! The head massage alone is worth the price of the haircut. And then Ransome listened to exactly what I wanted and exceed my expectations. The layers she added are perfect, she listened to how much I wanted off, and I could not be more grateful. I will definitely be back!! read more

Alexis is amazing! I've gone to her for years. She is this awesome mix of Donna from that 70s show + Aubrey Plaza. She is laid back, funny, and always listens to what I want to do with my hair! Love her!! WiP is going above and beyond with safety precautions during the pandemic. Everything is very clean, thoroughly sanitized, and distanced. Masks are required and they keep a supply outside the door. They have a spray to sanitize any personal items, like your phone, and require hand washing before entering. They even have cards right outside the salon that you can bring in and place at your booth if you prefer no talking. read more

This salon is definitely a go to when in Indianapolis!! It has a serene, laid back atmosphere and very professional friendly staff that make sure you are satisfied with the end product. Not only do they offer an awesome keratin treatment, but blow outs, coloring services etc.. I will definitely be returning! 4/2/18 Came in for my second keratin treatment and Alexis was wonderful!! Not only did I not have to wait, but received VIP treatment!! This salon is on the second floor, accessible by stairs , but totally worth the hike for the fabulous job Alexis did with my hair!! Everything is very neat and clean, and spectrum of services offered is awesome! If you are in Downtown Indianapolis and looking for a reputable stylist, Alexis is your girl!! read more

My first visit to Wip was over a year ago, I got a blowout before a nice evening out. The scalp massage was hands down the best shampoo ever. I can get anxious about having someone new do my hair, even just a blowout. Ransome was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I had to come back and see what more magic she could work with my strands! Before coming to Wip, I had another solan color my hair hoping to get a red... it was brown . So for my return visit, I got a color correction to lighten my hair. I was immediately pleased with my new color. In fact when I returned to teaching the next day my third grade students were thrilled that I had "fixed it!" My hair has never been healthier! It's longer and has more body than I thought possible. I get compliments throughout the life of my highlights! Before people might say something just after I color it. Now people complement my color right up to my next service! One of my good friends with much thicker hair has even switched hair salons after seeing my hair transform and my raving about the relaxing shampoo and scalp massage! I can also highly recommend the waxing services they provide as well! read more

Wip Downtown - Highlights, cut and blowout by Ransome! This blowout withstood an afternoon outdoor August wedding ceremony! - Hair Salons Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

Open and airy feeling with large windows for people watching while you get your hair done. Very Uncomfortable hair washing sinks. Don't like that they use hair products that I can find at cvs. I believe they use all tigi. . If you use a credit card they'll charge you a fee. $60 for a haircut taking less than an hour is just a no go for me. read more

I've been going to Wip for awhile now and can't imagine going anywhere else to get my hair cut/colored. The salon is always clean, tidy, and up to date. Seth is the absolute best! He is professional, easy to talk to, and so talented at what he does. He always goes above and beyond with my hair requests-it always comes out better than I expect! I wouldn't trust anyone else other than him. I will be going here forever! read more

So happy to have found WiP a few months ago and made it my new Indy salon. Marta has been incredible - always open to input and looks at pictures/colors with me to figure out what we'll try. Cut about 7 inches off today! Thanks for my fun new 'do, Marta! :) read more

Being new to downtown Indy, I was looking for hairstylists in the area. I found two hair salons both of which were decently reviewed, and Wip was one of them. I've been to Wip about 4-5 times now and seen different stylists based on who's available, and I have to say all of them are really good. All haircuts and blowouts include hair wash, which is by the way, a very relaxing service at Wip, because they not only shampoo and condition your hair, they also give you a pretty relaxing scalp massage. They carry TIGI copyright products and are very decently priced. The only thing I'm not very keen about is that there is an additional $2 charge if you pay with a credit card. The salon has a beautiful layout and a bright pink wall, that lights up the place. They also have very flexible hours; they are open till late on Tuesday and Thursday. Their haircuts are $45-55 and blowouts are $40. read more

I have finally found a salon that I can call home! I have been hopping around Indy for years trying to find a consistent stylist who I connected with. I hit the jackpot with Marta Gruber! She is an expert colorist who is extremely talented with styling as well. I had never dyed my hair previously, and she walked me through the whole process to calm my nerves and it turned out AMAZING! I will forever book with Marta from now on - THE BEST! I visit here for cut and color services on my hair, but they also offer bridal and other hair services as well - specifically Brazilian blowouts. I want to mention the amazing shampoo massage that they give as well. Such a nice addition to the appointment! They use TIGI products which is a very high quality salon line that also smells amazing. The stylists have impeccable taste and I'm so glad that I finally found WiP! read more

WIP downtown has been providing me with more than just haircuts for years. Sure, all I am charged for is a men's haircut. However, the true product of WIP downtown is the consolation and hospitality before, during, and after the cut I am charged for. A haircut can sometimes be a stressful experience for a lay person. I lack the verbiage and vision to know and describe what I want. However once you have established that professional relationship, the process of getting haircut moves from the stressful column to the relaxing one - relieved I no longer look overgrown and relaxed from the process. Go to WIP and treat the staff as they are - consultants as well as stylists. Feel free to ask questions as it is a safe space without judgement. Maximize your experience. And at the end, remember to tip. They go the extra mile and deserve a little extra. read more

I've been a monthly regular for a little over a year now for body and brow waxing with Ransome. I shopped around at different salons in Indy before finding this one. I think it is very well priced, especially for being centrally located downtown, and looks very chic. Everyone is very nice and the salon handles covid precautions very well. My only downside is while getting waxed I can perfectly hear the conversation from the hair washing room, but sometimesnthis is great entertainment! read more

This is an updated review. I got my hair cut and highlighted at WIP about a month ago and I have to say that this is the best haircut I have ever had in my entire life. I love this cut. I'm relatively new to Indianapolis and was nervous to find a new hair stylist that I liked and trusted. Wip was welcoming to new customers and were very helpful. The atmosphere in the salon is very calm and relaxing, I love the shampooing room! I highly recommend visiting this salon! read more

I cannot say enough about this salon, A++++. Ransome has been making my hair perfect for the last few years. She has perfected the art of making my hair just the right platinum color, which is not an easy feat. I could not imagine trusting anyone, other than her or some other stylist in her salon, touch my hair. All the stylist in the salon given grade A+ quality service. From the greeting when you walk in, to the constant flow of complementary beverages and scalp massages...this place is meant for royalty. Alexis also cuts and colors my 6.5 yr old daughter's hair and does an amazing job. She is incredibly patient with her and gives her a style, not just a typical "cookie cutter" cut. I cannot recommend this salon enough. read more

The WiP Downtown team did my bridal hair and makeup, only one person in our 0-person wedding group. Overall, the team did an amazing job with hair and makeup, varying services and moving us along for our timeline. We arrived at 9:00am and they were able to start with 4 of us, rotating between stations/stylists to see everyone. This is the most ideal situation for a group of our size and wedding day bookings. Everyone's blow outs and styles were done incredibly well and as requested, and if curls dropped, they jumped in to fix/re-do styles. We had a slight delay for our group - other appointments came in during our booked time - but they immediately figured out stylists to keep us going. We were able to bring in breakfast (nearby Panera), coffee and mimosa! A fantastic start to the wedding day! The team was wonderful managing a large group of a wide array of ages (14-35), and making sure we were all happy with the result. As an out-of-town bride, I had my trial a month before the wedding and Ransome was AMAZING in making sure I was happy with my hair and makeup. She asked all of the right questions to get me thinking about my hair/makeup, and was super available for questions as they arose. Thank you WiP Downtown! I would absolutely recommend the salon to bridal groups or other large groups of folks! read more

After I posted my original review, the owner reached out and recommended that I try a blowout with Stephanie. He noted that she was one of the more experienced stylists in the salon and was less reliant on styling products. I needed to look fabulous this weekend for a bachelorette party, so I booked an appointment with her. To my delight, she used the tiniest bit of hair goop just on my ends and finished me off with a spritz of hair spray. The result? My hair was light and bouncy and shiny. No greasy, sticky roots and weighed-down hair like I've gotten previously. She even managed to make my overgrown bangs look good, and that's a challenge. And guess what? My fabulous 'do has lasted for three days without a hint of droop or grease, and I've gotten loads of compliments on my sleek style. I'm officially a convert -- Stephanie knows what's up. Thanks for a weekend of great hair! read more

Happy I found this great Indy salon! I have been getting my hair cut here for a year or so now - and I always leave feeling happy that I came. I get my hair cut by Ransome, who is super knowledgeable, experienced, and trustworthy - but also on trend. Which I think is hard to find. I mentioned to Ransome during my recent appointment that I have always wanted a crown braid - and she said that she could easily do one for me if I wanted. I was ecstatic! So I left with my hair freshly cut and my locks in a beautiful crown braid. ** I forgot to take a photo of my braid until the next morning - so don't mind the loose bits - just imagine how perfect it looked before I slept on it!!** read more

I visited Wip based on a recommendation from a colleague. The salon is conveniently located downtown off of Illinois Street, so it was a convenient stop for me during the workday. You do have to walk up a pretty steep set of stairs to get to their spot on the 2nd floor, but it's worth the walk! The loft-style space is full of natural light and very spacious. They also have a quiet spa room in the back. I saw Andra for my appointment, and I'm so glad I did! She and I talked about my dissatisfaction with past stylists and haircuts to make a plan. She was very skilled, professional, and easy to talk to! Loved her energy. She also made great recommendations of products (which I asked about--she wasn't trying to sell me on them.) They carry TIGI products, and so far I'm happy with what I purchased. My hair looks and feels healthy! Street parking is available in the area. They take cash, card, and PayPal. read more

First off: awesome space. Super open, great modern urban feel. Ransome nailed what I needed for last weekend when I said I had to be a bombshell. Big big blonde hair to start; I am makeup clueless so she patiently listened as I went back and forth on every decision, whether it was what color eye shadow, what color lip etc. Ultimately I'm pretty sure she used her own judgment and thank god for that because I walked out feelin like Barbie. On a prior occasion, going for a totally different look, Alyssa turned my hair into a super funky braided Mohawk that got so many compliments all night. Would absolutely recommend her for awesome up-do's! Haven't had the pleasure of going to the other gals but they all seem to do a fantastic job on who is setting in their chair! read more

I'm usually not the fussy type, but I feel I need to share my negative experience to possibly save someone else from going thru the same. I went in for a cut and color, something I do about every 4-6 9weeks due to having short hair, and thought I would try someone new, since my usual girl was on vaca. I thought that going to an upscale, downtown salon would guarantee me a fabulous 'do, but I was greatly mistaken. From the start I felt like I was being treated like some naive country girl who had no idea how the big city worked. The owner was extremely short with me, and very rude. The salon was empty, but I still had to wait for a shampoo, and the products she used where grocery store at best. I told her exactly what I wanted, with pics and all, and she proceded to argue with me about everything! She had to use a toner on me, which she didn't mention would cost extra, among all the other "extras" she claimed I needed. When it was all said and done, I left there with sub-par cut, un-even color, a dyed scalp, and a bill for $190! You've got to be kidding me.... read more

Came in open with ideas and left with happiness. They are kind of expensive but I guess that's what you get in the city.

I came here to get my hair and makeup done while visiting Indy for a wedding. I was staying at the JW Marriot and yelped for a salon nearby and luckily I found WIP. My hair was done by Alexis and Abby did my makeup. My makeup was so good that even when I fell asleep with it on (not recommended) it was still intact. And my blowout and style lasted until work Monday morning.... I had my hair and makeup done on Saturday. Highly recommend this place :) read more

This salon is amazing! Best scalp massage in the city. They do a wide range of services from color to waxing. I get my color and cut done there regularly and i had them do my wedding hair and makeup. Everyone there is so nice. Complimentary coffee, tea even wine if you want. Make up services can include false eyelashes, which are just too hard to do myself. The owner Ransome is wonderful. Her color work is phenomenal. Who knew i could have rose gold hair to match my wedding colors. read more

Alexis is absolutely wonderful! I have very thick, coily hair and she handled it with no problem. I know many black girls are scared to try a blow out bar but Alexis has you covered! My hair was bone straight as I requested and it felt soft and healthy. She told me how to maintain it and it still looks great. There is street parking but pay your meter because they check on the weekends. The blow out was affordable and I paid another $10 for the flat iron heat styling. I'm going to keep this short and sweet. Good: They were able to take a last minute blowout appointment My blowout lasted for 3 days. Bad: I had to wait 25 minutes after arriving. I completely understand waiting 5-10 minutes. It happens. I wish they would have given me a call to let me know about the delay. Or maybe I'm just impatient because I'm from the East Coast. Ugly: My hairdresser said that she thought I had a thyroid problem. After panicking quite a bit, I did a little bit of research. It would make sense for a hairdresser that I religiously see to say such a thing but she had just met me about 20 minutes before telling me that. I waited to write this review until AFTER getting checked out by an actual doctor and my regular hairdresser. No thyroid problem here. And they were both appalled when I told them about my incident. It's safe to say I'll never go back to Wip. I wanted to love this salon but you can't just tell someone you just met that they might have a thyroid problem... read more

I've been going to WiP for probably 7 or 8 years now. The owners Jeff and Kimberly are wonderful as are all the stylists. Its such a joy to visit WiP - everything is laid back and relaxing and the studio is so welcoming with its wide open spaces, wood floor and huge windows. I have curly hair which not everyone knows how to cut. I've received so many compliments on my hair since going to WiP. Its very easy to make an appt on line on their web site, but I'd recommending calling and telling Jeff (or who ever answers the phone) what type of hair you have and what you are looking for and they will recommend a stylist. As for price, I pay the same here as I did at a large place where I felt more like a head of hair than a person. And don't worry about the parking meter, there is always someone willing to make sure your meter doesn't run out. read more
