Amber listened to my needs and did a great job -- my hair looked good the whole weekend (with a little help from dry shampoo on days 3 and 4, with day 4 being an early flight home). I always travel with a satin pillowcase, so that helps. The salon has a cool vibe, with lots of natural light and plants. I was in Indianapolis for the weekend for a wedding (a small one!) and had not had time to get my pixie cleaned up before the weekend of the wedding. Kind of irresponsible BUT it really worked out. WiP was the 10th or 11th studio I called and luckily had a spot for Saturday morning. Also, they were very nice on the phone, answered my questions well and even sent an email confirmation (see pictures). The location isn't too far from Monument Circle. From my hotel near the Circle, it was about a 10 minute walk, so it's a convenient location. WiP is on the second floor of its building- it has its own door making it relatively easy to find. You walk upstairs and there is a seating area (where my husband parked it), restrooms and a hand sanitizer area with instructions for entering. The check in process was simple and safe for Covid precautions. My actual hair cut went really well! I got it shampooed and conditioned, then cut and styled (which was perfect for the wedding). The whole process probably took around 40-45 minutes, so I was impressed by the efficient use of time. My stylist was such a great conversationalist, and also had a lot of tips for maintaining or growing out a pixie. 10/10 recommend read more

I got my haircut earlier this week, and it is one of the best haircuts I have ever received! The next day at work I got more compliments that I could count!! The head massage alone is worth the price of the haircut. And then Ransome listened to exactly what I wanted and exceed my expectations. Alexis is amazing! I've gone to her for years. She is this awesome mix of Donna from that 70s show + Aubrey Plaza. She is laid back, funny, and always listens to what I want to do with my hair! Love her!! WiP is going above and beyond with safety precautions during the pandemic. Everything is very clean, thoroughly sanitized, and distanced. Masks are required and they keep a supply outside the door. They have a spray to sanitize any personal items, like your phone, and require hand washing before entering. My first visit to Wip was over a year ago, I got a blowout before a nice evening out. The scalp massage was hands down the best shampoo ever. I can get anxious about having someone new do my hair, even just a blowout. Ransome was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I had to come back and see what more magic she could work with my strands! Before coming to Wip, I had another solan color my hair hoping to get a red... it was brown . So for my return visit, I got a color correction to lighten my hair. I was immediately pleased with my new color. In fact when I returned to teaching the next day my third grade students were thrilled that I had "fixed it!" My hair has never been healthier! It's longer and has more body than I thought possible. I get compliments throughout the life of my highlights! Before people might say something just after I color it. Now people complement my color right up to my next service! I have finally found a salon that I can call home! I have been hopping around Indy for years trying to find a consistent stylist who I connected with. I hit the jackpot with Marta Gruber! She is an expert colorist who is extremely talented with styling as well. I had never dyed my hair previously, and she walked me through the whole process to calm my nerves and it turned out AMAZING! I will forever book with Marta from now on - THE BEST! I visit here for cut and color services on my hair, but they also offer bridal and other hair services as well - specifically Brazilian blowouts. I want to mention the amazing shampoo massage that they give as well. Such a nice addition to the appointment! They use TIGI products which is a very high quality salon line that also smells amazing. Being new to downtown Indy, I was looking for hairstylists in the area. I found two hair salons both of which were decently reviewed, and Wip was one of them. I've been to Wip about 4-5 times now and seen different stylists based on who's available, and I have to say all of them are really good. All haircuts and blowouts include hair wash, which is by the way, a very relaxing service at Wip, because they not only shampoo and condition your hair, they also give you a pretty relaxing scalp massage. They carry TIGI copyright products and are very decently priced. The only thing I'm not very keen about is that there is an additional $2 charge if you pay with a credit card. The salon has a beautiful layout and a bright pink wall, that lights up the place. They also have very flexible hours; they are open till late on Tuesday and Thursday. WIP downtown has been providing me with more than just haircuts for years. Sure, all I am charged for is a men's haircut. However, the true product of WIP downtown is the consolation and hospitality before, during, and after the cut I am charged for. A haircut can sometimes be a stressful experience for a lay person. I lack the verbiage and vision to know and describe what I want. However once you have established that professional relationship, the process of getting haircut moves from the stressful column to the relaxing one - relieved I no longer look overgrown and relaxed from the process. I've been a monthly regular for a little over a year now for body and brow waxing with Ransome. I shopped around at different salons in Indy before finding this one. I think it is very well priced, especially for being centrally located downtown, and looks very chic. Everyone is very nice and the salon handles covid precautions very well. She has perfected the art of making my hair just the right platinum color, which is not an easy feat. The WiP Downtown team did my bridal hair and makeup, only one person in our 0-person wedding group. Overall, the team did an amazing job with hair and makeup, varying services and moving us along for our timeline. We arrived at 9:00am and they were able to start with 4 of us, rotating between stations/stylists to see everyone. This is the most ideal situation for a group of our size and wedding day bookings. Everyone's blow outs and styles were done incredibly well and as requested, and if curls dropped, they jumped in to fix/re-do styles. We had a slight delay for our group - other appointments came in during our booked time - but they immediately figured out stylists to keep us going. We were able to bring in breakfast (nearby Panera), coffee and mimosa! A fantastic start to the wedding day! The team was wonderful managing a large group of a wide array of ages (14-35), and making sure we were all happy with the result. As an out-of-town bride, I had my trial a month before the wedding and Ransome was AMAZING in making sure I was happy with my hair and makeup. Happy I found this great Indy salon! I have been getting my hair cut here for a year or so now - and I always leave feeling happy that I came. I get my hair cut by Ransome, who is super knowledgeable, experienced, and trustworthy - but also on trend. Which I think is hard to find. After I posted my original review, the owner reached out and recommended that I try a blowout with Stephanie. He noted that she was one of the more experienced stylists in the salon and was less reliant on styling products. I needed to look fabulous this weekend for a bachelorette party, so I booked an appointment with her. To my delight, she used the tiniest bit of hair goop just on my ends and finished me off with a spritz of hair spray. The result? My hair was light and bouncy and shiny. No greasy, sticky roots and weighed-down hair like I've gotten previously. She even managed to make my overgrown bangs look good, and that's a challenge. And guess what? I visited Wip based on a recommendation from a colleague. The salon is conveniently located downtown off of Illinois Street, so it was a convenient stop for me during the workday. You do have to walk up a pretty steep set of stairs to get to their spot on the 2nd floor, but it's worth the walk! The loft-style space is full of natural light and very spacious. They also have a quiet spa room in the back. I saw Andra for my appointment, and I'm so glad I did! She and I talked about my dissatisfaction with past stylists and haircuts to make a plan. She was very skilled, professional, and easy to talk to! Loved her energy. She also made great recommendations of products (which I asked about--she wasn't trying to sell me on them.) First off: awesome space. Super open, great modern urban feel. Ransome nailed what I needed for last weekend when I said I had to be a bombshell. Big big blonde hair to start; I am makeup clueless so she patiently listened as I went back and forth on every decision, whether it was what color eye shadow, what color lip etc. Ultimately I'm pretty sure she used her own judgment and thank god for that because I walked out feelin like Barbie. On a prior occasion, going for a totally different look, Alyssa turned my hair into a super funky braided Mohawk that got so many compliments all night. I thought that going to an upscale, downtown salon would guarantee me a fabulous 'do, but I was greatly mistaken. From the start I felt like I was being treated like some naive country girl who had no idea how the big city worked. The owner was extremely short with me, and very rude. The salon was empty, but I still had to wait for a shampoo, and the products she used where grocery store at best. I told her exactly what I wanted, with pics and all, and she proceded to argue with me about everything! She had to use a toner on me, which she didn't mention would cost extra, among all the other "extras" she claimed I needed. Alexis is absolutely wonderful! I have very thick, coily hair and she handled it with no problem. I know many black girls are scared to try a blow out bar but Alexis has you covered! My hair was bone straight as I requested and it felt soft and healthy. She told me how to maintain it and it still looks great. I've been going to WiP for probably 7 or 8 years now. The owners Jeff and Kimberly are wonderful as are all the stylists. Its such a joy to visit WiP - everything is laid back and relaxing and the studio is so welcoming with its wide open spaces, wood floor and huge windows. I have curly hair which not everyone knows how to cut. I've received so many compliments on my hair since going to WiP. Its very easy to make an appt on line on their web site, but I'd recommending calling and telling Jeff (or who ever answers the phone) what type of hair you have and what you are looking for and they will recommend a stylist. As for price, I pay the same here as I did at a large place where I felt more like a head of hair than a person. And don't worry about the parking meter, there is always someone willing to make sure your meter doesn't run out. read more
