I was scheduled for a free consultation and my appointment reminder stated there was a fee for appointments canceled or rescheduled within 24 hours of the appointed time. Although my 3:00 consultation was free, I left at 3:20 after waiting for 40 minutes (I was 10 minutes early). My feeling was that being on time does not matter as long as it is a stylist who is not on time and could not even let me know she would be late. read more

I moved to Carmel recently and needed to find a new hair stylist. I drive past MDG everyday on my way to work and I kept thinking how beautiful the inside looked as I drove by. I called and made an appointment. I called a few weeks before I wanted an appointment in case they were booked out far in advance but they said they could get me in later that week. Jessica did my hair and I don't think I've ever had a stylist take the time to fully understand what I wanted and I didn't even show her a photo for inspiration. She was very friendly and easy to talk to. The inside of the salon was very clean, nice, big and open. I was offered a beverage upon my arrival and the parking was very easy on the backside of the building off of the main road. The price was higher than I'm used to paying ($200) for a hair cut and color but I also came from a small college town so I was expecting a higher price tag. I would definitely go back to MDG and recommend it to anyone. read more

My daughter has used this salon for a few years, and I have to say, her results have always been beautiful. She works with Ashley, specifically, and Ashley has done some seriously impressive, drastic color changes on my daughters hair at times. Her prices are very comparable with local "master stylists." Today, my daughter had an appointment to get her hair cut and colored for the first time since becoming a Mom. So I tagged along to occupy my infant granddaughter. I saw Mallory today for a Fall refresh and per usual, she delivered. I gave her full creative control, and after a partial lightening service and a quick dusting of my ends, walked out giving showstopper vibes. I also appreciate a salon professional who takes the time to talk to me about which products I'm using and when to change things up. mdg has not disappointed! I have been going there on/off for about 4 years now. I have seen three different stylists, but each one has been excellent. I am currently a client of Kristen and she does such a phenomenal job of listening to my needs, taking into account how much time I want to have in-between visits, and my hair goals. Pre-COVID, the salon experience was great with complimentary beverage service and a style with my cut/color. During COVID, they have finally phased back in the style component, and they are all masked and observing social distancing. I feel very comfortable spending time in the salon. Feel trendy while getting a great cut. The space is beautiful, with a bit stiletto high heel as the front desk, beautiful holiday twinkle lights everywhere, a big open space with tons of hair stylists, and cool wall art. There's lots of magazines to read in a comfy couch while you wait, and rows of cute clothes to browse (the Yelp check in= 10% off a clothing purchase!). My hair stylist was Carrie and she did a great job. It was also one of the quickest hair cuts (while still great quality) that I've had in a while, so that was refreshing. She washed my hair in a good-smelling shampoo and gave me an awesome head massage (I'd pay just for that!). She cut my hair confidently in just a few minutes (my hair is thin and I just wanted a straight across cut). Carrie was friendly and really listened to my ideal hair description (I mentioned that I would like my hair to be fuller and she added a volumizing mousse). She also asked how I'd like my hair styled- straight or curly (I've never been given an option on this before). Nice vibe, easy to set up an appointment and the only downfall is that the price is as high as the quality. read more

I really love being a woman except when it comes time to get a haircut. Then, I generally don't like being a woman, because women pay more for getting their hair cut (this is just a fact, don't even @ me), even when the woman is a woman like me who doesn't color her hair and only wants a simple trim. I literally only wanted the stylist to trim my hair straight across (no layers or anything), and she did that plus shampooed and styled my hair, and it cost me $70+ tip! So I walked out of this place with an almost $100 hair trim. But the reason why I'm leaving a four-star review is because my hair looked faaaabulous after my simple $100 hair trim. Magnificent. Glorious. My hair was the shiniest and softest it had ever been, and I couldn't help but run my hands through my hair all day and all night. I couldn't stop touching my hair. Even my husband, who almost never notices when my hair changes, immediately said, "Wow, your hair is so shiny," when I came home. I'm telling you! Samantha made my hair look amazing, and for that she and this place deserves four stars. I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to afford a $100 hair trim as often as I'd like, but when I can, and when I want my hair to look its best, then I will be coming here to get my hair trimmed. Also: I was able to get an appointment the same day, and on a weekend, no less. That's awesome, and I love how friendly and accommodating they are to their customers. Also also: They are located in the same shopping center as Upland Carmel Tap House, which is ideal. So, if you're like me and the thought of sitting and chatting with with a stranger who is touching you and your hair is unsettling, and you need a beer beforehand to settle your nerves and make you more social, well, guess what? Upland is just steps away, so you can visit it before your appointment (like I did) and you'll be golden! read more

The downside first... EXPENSIVE! When I checked out today, I was shocked that I spent a little over $300 on a balayage and bang trim (plus tip). The experience itself was top notch and the outcome of my hair was great! Mallory was my stylist. I previously went to her for a haircut and had a color consultation at that appointment. She told me it would take about 4 hours for the balayage and it really did take that long! The great thing is that the time passed by so quickly because Mallory is personable and friendly. The space is clean and I had a great experience! I loved the products she used (Kevin Murphy & Oribe). As I said earlier, it's a bit expensive. I asked for a receipt and there was a breakdown of the charges. One being a B3 treatment that I wasn't sure what it was. I asked the front desk person what it was and she said it is something that stylists use that repairs chemically treated hair and something that my stylist typically does for her color clients. I think depending on the stylist, the pricing differs, so that's probably why there isn't a price breakdown online. I really like my stylist and will be back! read more

The shampoo bowls were adjustable and comfortable. My hair dresser was professional and on time. I was very disappointed that my eyebrows couldn't be dyed to match my hair color. After having more than a few bad experiences with my previous hair stylist I finally opted to find someone new to do my hair. I called MDG and was immediately greeted warmly and they were so helpful in getting me in quickly during a time that fit my schedule. I went to Lauren and got partial balayage and a cut. My hair is long and strawberry blonde and I am very protective of putting too much color into it or changing it up too much. Lauren was very helpful and made suggestions to help get it exactly right. She was warm and friendly and I will for sure be going back to her for all of my hair care needs! If you are looking for a new hair stylist I would highly recommend. Absolutely love this place. I totally feel at home since it reminds me of the salons that I go to in LA. It has this industrial and modern feel to it. Puri is my stylist and she's my most awesome discovery since she's from Southern California as well. We totally get along and she's such a fab stylist and I'm glad that I have someone I can go to who understands Cali color and style. She was also trained in Europe so it's such a plus. Katea is my stylist at MDG Salon; I couldn't be happier with the results every time I leave. I have always had very fine and thin hair and I am a natural brunette. I've always been very skeptical about going lighter/adding blonde because my hair is "sensitive" anyways. I have loved coming to MDG in Carmel to get my haircut for the last year. My stylist is Katie and I initially booked an appointment with her because so many of my sorority sisters get their hair done by her and look sexy AF. Every moment of my experience is always positive from check-in, to wash, cut and color. Katie does an amazing job with the head massage while washing my hair. My color always looks great and I love her cuts. There have been a few times where Katie has been extremely flexible with my schedule trying to get me in. She also offers a "midway" root cover-up which is especially helpful if you have a lot of grays like me! I highly recommend Katie and this salon! read more

I went here today to get a cut, color and my eyebrows done. I had Chelly and she was AMAZING. I didn't really know what I wanted and I told her to just do what she thought would be good. She absolutely nailed it. I showed her a few pictures of things that I liked and she went to town. She cut off some inches, gave me a bunch of layers and did a bayalge(sp) treatment to give me some beautiful honey colors in my hair. Staff is friendly, Chelly is meticulous and makes sure you love what you leave with. I will absolutely be back soon. read more

I switched to this salon a few months ago when I felt like my previous salon wasn't accomplishing what I was asking for in terms of my hair color. The other stylist was nice but she was missing the mark on achieving red. After just one appointment with Kyle, I was hooked on MGD. Not only is he super sweet and fun to talk to, he really listens and does a great job with my color. I also love his finishing skills in that he achieves a great level of volume with my hair when he does the blow-dry, even though my hair is kind of thin. The salon itself is spacious, clean, and bright with lots of activity at all times of the day. The front desk staff is friendly and prompt and they do a great job with scheduling. Parking can be a little on the tricky side if your appointment coincides with happy hour on a nice day because they share a lot with Upland Brewing and some other stores, but I've always found a space.
