If you're on the fence about going to Eagle, well just hop off already and get your bum over there…read more I finally did and realized I had been missing out all this time. This fantastically grungy place is fueled by a mix of thumping beats, leather harnesses, and shirtless men. Even at its busiest, the vibe stays open, fun, and surprisingly well organized. The Wednesday before thanksgiving is apparently known for being the busiest night at the Eagle, and this year's record crowd should have sunk the whole operation, but the staff kept the entire production going smoothly like it was rehearsed. The Eagle's security team deserves direct credit. They managed an impossibly massive crowd without a hitch. Even with thousands trying to get in, the kilometric entrance line and the coat check line that stretched to the roof moved smoothly and never descended into chaos. Dan in particular handled a near-impossible task: recovering my smartwatch from a crowd so packed I had assumed it was gone for good. He somehow retrieved it, safeguarded it, and returned it to me with the utmost professionalism. Music is solid. The vibe is leather and musk. The inclusivity is not just tag line but a daily practice. This bar deserves every positive review on this app. Ignore the haters. Peace!

Leather gay bar with a distinct edge in an edgy neighborhood with staffers who have an edge too : )…read more The whole vibe of the place is meant to be edgy and transgressive. It works on some levels and not on others (no one will be singing show tunes but everyone's trying to look very serious in a faux macho sorta way) Fun place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there

There's no nice way to say it - one of my dearest friends was full-out assaulted by the doorman…read morethis past Saturday night. I was with my friend and my boyfriend. They each had bags for inspection. I did not. I showed my ID to the man and was permitted inside. I stood watching through the door and wondered what was taking so long. Finally I saw my boyfriend calmly gesturing for me to come back out. The man had very gruffly told my boyfriend "no, you go over to the side" - whatever that means - re: his bag. Nasty. It's not against the law for people to have bags and backpacks. You'd think it was the inconvenience of a lifetime to inspect them. My boyfriend comes right from work. My friend had come in from Connecticut. They needed their bags. They didn't mind them being checked at all. They tolerated the large helping of attitude. When I walked back through the door, I saw my friend and the doorman pushing and shoving each other. It was a full-on assault. Other people were watching and horrified. Apparently, my friend had two water bottles in his bag and wasn't permitted to take them in. He simply asked if he could leave them at the front. The doorman said, "I'm not gonna babysit your water!" Wrong. The thing to say is, "You're free to leave them, but I can't be held responsible for them." The both of them had had enough of the attitude and decided we would all just go somewhere else, and said so and turned to leave. Right as my boyfriend gestured for me to come out, the doorman grabbed my friend with both hands and shoved him. My friend is a gentle person and battles a great deal of anxiety. He did not provoke this attack. My boyfriend saw the whole thing with his own eyes. It made absolutely no sense. My friend was completely rattled for hours. We spent the evening trying to help him come down from the adrenaline and shock to his system. Was this a homophobic attack? If so, Flex should be aware of who they have in their employ. Yet it really doesn't matter what the motivation was. It was brutal and it was wrong, plain and simple. My friend's water didn't disturb a single patron that night. The doorman's attack on him did. It was outrageous. What's more? My friend is the most generous tipper anyone could meet. He treats bartenders like they do God's work. Now none of us would ever go back. Why would we? We moved on to Flaming Saddles where the doorman and bartenders were lovely to us in spite of a swelling Saturday night crowd. They were sensitive to my friend and helped replace some of our night's ugliness with kindness. Beware of Flex. Go at your own risk.
