We went here on a Saturday night as a big group for my sister's bride/bride bachelorette. I planned ahead of time with their Director of Operations. Shoutout to Hutch for being so lovely and easy to work with!!! We showed up at 12:30am on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Getting into a bathroom was one of the hardest challenges of the evening but is really my only complaint. Otherwise, the ambiance is so chill and it was such a fun crowd to dance with. I've come to Henrietta Hudson a few times throughout the last few years when I've visited NY. Every time I've been I've had a great time! I have come on a Saturday and it was quite busy but a good time. It can definitely get crowded on the weekends! I've come other times during the week and that's been very chill and enjoyable. The bartenders have always been nice and it's pretty good prices compared to other bars. I noticed it had been renovated on my last visit and it looks really nice! I'm a fan of their beer selection. I am utterly disgusted by what I witnessed last night, at the Henrietta Hudson establishment. What was meant to be a casual night out turned into one of the most uncomfortable and upsetting experiences I've had in a long time, all due to the behavior of a member of the bar staff. A fellow patron, who appeared to be nothing but being polite and respectful, was publicly humiliated and discriminated against in full view of the bar. The staff member aggressively grabbed the wrist of the patron to kick them out based upon false claims made by another bar goer without ever verifying the claim. I am unsure if this was based on personal bias, whether that bias was due to race, gender identity, appearance, or another factor, it was blatant and deeply inappropriate. It was bullying, plain and simple. The most shameful part? No one from management intervened. The incident was brushed off as if it were normal or acceptable. Let me be clear: it is not. This establishment should be ashamed. Discrimination and humiliation have no place anywhere, let alone in a setting that relies on public trust and hospitality. Until serious accountability and training are put in place to ensure this never happens again, I will not return, and I will make sure others know the truth about how people are treated here. The oldest lesbian bar in New York! My partner and I came here with our friends on Friday night to celebrate our wedding earlier that day. The door staff were so friendly and the vibe inside was top tier. The DJ was amazing playing a mix of newer stuff and iconic stuff that everyone knows. The bartenders were nice and the drinks were tasty but a bit weak which is the only reason it's not 5* for me. The toilets are actually really great for bar toilets. I came here the other night with my girlfriend and my friend who has never been to a bar before so my first thought was to take her here since I thought it was safe but I was mistaken despite coming here before. My friend was dancing with some girls as me and my girl were dancing together and this straight old guy came up to my friend and started grinding on her when she was dancing with a girl. My girlfriend and I noticed and my girl took him off of her. Later on that night, another guy started being weird with my friend and no matter where we went in the bar, he'd follow close by and would be staring her up and down and was licking his lips being super creepy. At one point, he brought out his phone and was recording my friend as she was dancing and I had to literally stand in front of her to block him from recording. He kept trying to get close and was talking to his guy friends about my friend, like making disgusting hand gestures while they both looked at my friend and licked their lips. My girl went to the creepy dude and told him to stop looking at my friend and to stop getting close so she went out to get someone to kick this guy out. Some woman who works there "handled" the situation by saying he's a regular and he's "not weird" bc he never gave her weird vibes personally. She told my masc girlfriend that if he was a girl doing the same thing that it wouldn't have been taken like that, (first off, this is a LESBIAN bar so obviously it would be taken differently, we do not want to be near straight men which is why we came here). and was making my girlfriend seem like she was crazy for thinking anything of it which he was clearly being a creep towards my drunk friend. The woman also said he wasn't recording my friend because she "checked the cameras" when we literally saw his phone screen as he was recording my friend. As we were speaking, the guy was still in the bar following my friend around despite there being plenty of space (it was 4am) as she was speaking to a girl, I spoke to her and explained that it makes no sense that men are even allowed because as a lesbian I don't want to be anywhere near men. I have a girlfriend, so I'm not coming to get with anyone, but just to be around other lesbians is comforting because we know that we are safe but now they cater to straight men who want to watch girls kiss and dance and to go as far as record is disgusting. The lady told us we could come again and the cover charge would be on her then offered another drink as if that helps the situation. After we left, they asked all 3 of us if we're going to drive home as if we're so wasted and made it seem like my girlfriend and I were crazy due to the earlier situation. We said no then told us we had to go down the block since too many Ubers are near by, mind you, it was 4am and we were one of the last people out, so clearly they just wanted us out of there and plus, it's a public side walk so that just topped off the night. I understand this bar was recovering from pride but damn, they only had about 8 options to choose from besides the full bar (which I would never touch after paying $13 for a cider). The bartender was alright...not very attentive at all. Many people complained about the air conditioning being too cold but I had no complaints and then it was completely turned off...also the prices for drinks were misconstrued because they had changed them for pride and so I believe I was constantly overcharged. This is a really good place to come and dance, and meet other women who enjoy women. I've been coming here since I was in my 20s, and it's always been pretty fun . Honestly, for Manhattan the drinks are priced pretty decently. I also like that they're diverse. Lgb women of all different backgrounds just chilling together. No racial divide here. Sidenote: one night this summer I came by but left early, but I think I may have offended someone! No diss guys, but that night I had gotten a text from an ex to come over, so you know.. yeah don't fucking go. we (all three queer women) were waiting in line and were told by a worker the cover charge was $13 cash. We go to an ATM, get the money, and then are told to our faces it's now $20 each cash. Keep in mind before us, the person checking IDs took two girls Zelle and let them in, after telling everyone else cash only. At that point we were standing outside shocked that they told us a new higher price, and they told us to stop standing outside and leave. We then tried to sit around the corner to deliberate about going in, when we were scolded further and told that we couldn't sit (on the public sidewalk) because the owners "pay lots of money for this building" Just greedy and nasty behavior. read more

On all night I went here, I accompanied my close friend (a lesbian) and we partied our lives away here. I went here for a pride event last year too and had a great time. The bartenders here are great and the music was lit, at least in the few times that I've been here. It can get packed to the point where it may be a bit hard to dance or order a drink. Come at a decent time to skip cover on the weekends. A great place for the community! A fun, friendly lesbian bar - the oldest in NYC I believe. Good vibes all around. My partner and I wandered upon this place per my coworker's recommendation. We're so glad we went! The staff were all super friendly and helpful in our drink selection, the DJ was fun, and it felt comforting to be in a safe space with other lesbians (especially as spaces like this are hard to come by). Their drinks were decent - anything on tap and their seasonal drink are great. They had a hard butter beer as the seasonal drink when we were there, they make each one upon order and it's a whole process! I would stray away from the cocktails though, as those are just poured from a pre-packaged glass. My only complaint is that prices are a little high ($9 for a beer on tap, $12 for a prepackaged cocktail, $12 for their seasonal drink). It's also loud, but again, it is a bar lol. Overall, I hope this place stays around. I would love to come back when I am back in town. NOTE: They charge a cover for some nights (i.e. dance nights) after a certain time. I have a hate love relation with hens. I've been coming here since my teen years and today's visit was just a support/reminiscent pop in. I love the idea of changing to a wine bar but the quality will definitely need to step up to play in that league. Hopefully they decide to keep the indoors as a dance space and not make the whole establishment into a lounge. Hens has never been the place to go for drink but dancing and that's still what they need to be know for considering the charcuterie, wine and "cocktail" options. I've been to Henrietta Hudson a few times before the pandemic, and last night was my first time going during COVID times. The bartender checked our vaccine cards and IDs upon entering. My friend and I came here for drinks, and I noticed they had redecorated! Cocktails were $12 each. And they came in cute prepackaged glass bottles and we got cups with ice for them! I forgot the name of the one I got but it was the one with rose and gin and it was a delightful floral and fresh drink. It was also very strong so I think the price was worth it. Service was great; best service at a bar since the bartender last night was very attentive. We wanted to dance but also didn't want to stay out late. The bartender said 9pm is when the dancing starts, so we ended up leaving before the dancing. Not sure what it's like during dancing hours, but when we were there at 7pm, it was spacious and not crowded. I'd love to come here again! There are not many lesbian spaces left so I'm happy to see Henrietta is still going strong. read more

Used to love this place, would always come because I thought it was a safe bar for lesbians but when a situation happened, a straight man was trying to be weird with my friend and I told the hostess. they said they couldn't do anything because he "so called" didn't do anything but he was following us thru the bar for a while and tried to record my friend while she was dancing and I had to push her away and they said he didn't record her and proceeded to tell me if a women was recording, it would been a different situation and that I would haven't been acting like that and just made seem like I was being dramatic and made it seem like i was bugging out since I am a masc and it was a ego thing. the situation was dealt so horribly I thought this was a safe bar from predatory straight men but I guess not and they proceeded to say he was regular so I put two and two together so tips are more valuable then the safety of the LGTBQ customers, definitely never coming back again. the bar is starting to cater to straight people and not care about the safety of anyone who is part of the LGBTQ, please if you do decide to come please stay safe while coming here and be aware of any weirdos at the bar :) read more

I've been to Henrietta's a few times, and the music is hit or miss depending on the night. Usually I have a pretty good time here because who doesn't love a good queer girl's hang? I went here last night with two friends to dance off the work week; life is exhausting am I right?! I waited in an amorphous line for the bathroom for about ~20 minutes. Everyone in line was nice, and for the space, we all made it work. I was first in line when they rushed an employee with a broken arm in front of me. Even though I'm still wondering what a bathroom could do to solve a broken arm (I hope they called the paramedics) I totally understood because I imagine being on the dance floor was overwhelming after whatever got them to that point. Suddenly, another employee was in front me. This person had no broken bones, and when I asked the usher letting everyone into each respective bathroom why they were being let in front of me as well, he responded, "Employees first. We let employees go first." There was no mention of emotional distress or a reasoning why this person was also going in front of me. I respond with, "I've been waiting for 20 minutes and am incredibly uncomfortable. I need to use the restroom urgently." He dismissed me again with saying, "Employees first." Meanwhile it looked like the employee was saying she didn't mind if I went ahead, but it seemed the usher out of principle wasn't going to let that happen. When the next person left the bathroom, I went through and used the restroom. It took me less than 90 seconds. As a queer woman of color there are so few spaces in the world where I feel safe and seen, I thought Henrietta's was one of those but seeing this white guy assert the same domineering power over my ability to just go into a bathroom really changed that for me. I get out of the bathroom and the manager is waiting for me. She tries to get my attention, but I'm good. What, I'm getting disciplined for using the toilet? Sorry I made someone wait for 90 seconds when I was patiently waiting for 20 minutes. I'm back with my friends and we're hanging in the corner dancing. All is well. The same manager, a petite white woman, comes back to speak with me and not only is she shaking while she attempts her confrontation, she brings a large man who was security to stand behind her. I can't begin to even start with how problematic this is, but if you know, you know. She starts with trying to discipline me about "pushing through people violently"... Y'all wonder how white queer spaces can be violent, here we go honey! I tell her, "Listen, idk what you're trying to achieve here but I hear you and I'm done with this conversation." She said, "I'm having this conversation so you can stay. We don't tolerate violence here. I see where you're coming from, but the employee was clearly in tears, which is why we wanted her to go through. I want to know where are you at and how you're feeling?" First of all, I did not see that. I looked deadass straight into her face, and she seemed like she was chatting with the usher without issue. As stated through my explanation of our brief interaction above. I said, "I was waiting patiently to use the bathroom. I get that the first person was hurt, but there was no reason for anyone to be as rude as that man was to me." I didn't respond by telling her how I feel, so I'll respond here: when confronting women of color in public spaces that are supposed to act as safe havens for minorities who are disrespected in the day-to-day don't replicate that by bringing big men to back you up like you assume we're going to fight you. Don't start a conversation with someone you're not emotionally equipped to have (clear by the fact that you were shaking when addressing me) because you know you're in the wrong. Everything about your actions showed me that you wanted an altercation after things has been resolved (AKA me using the bathroom and your employee doing whatever they needed to do in the meantime). Moreover don't respond to this review with a bout of defensive reasoning why you were right (you weren't) because you'll just be telling on yourself. The amount of effort you put into being in my space thereafter was incredibly telling in itself. Your power does not come from putting woc down, and making us very aware of how you actually feel about our power. If I were a white woman I would have come out of that bathroom demanding to speak to the manager and complaining about employee conduct. You probably would have even apologized to me. But because I have large curls, and dark skin and HAVE to assert myself in a way privileged folks don't, I'm perceived as violent when I don't overextend my patience for all your tomfoolery. All I'm saying by what I saw last night is that we have a looooong way to go still, and I'm deeply disappointed. read more

For example, I was asked my star sign in a callous tone - I'm guessing as a way to somehow check the validity of my ID? I was then told that something "didn't match up" with my ID: It is no coincidence that, in my ID picture, I had short hair and was masculine-presenting but am now very femme. They treated me as though I wasn't queer enough to be there because I am bi. As we walked away someone nearby shouted at us, "This is a gay bar, f*gg*t," and the staff did nothing.
