Coach Eric's instructions are very broken down and easy to follow. I never felt that he's pressured anyone or made anyone feel incapable. The instructors tailor to every student and their needs all while conducting an organized respected class. The only reason why I give it four stars is because there is always room for improvement: I don't completely agree with the way the belts are "earned" by showing up and more discipline could be implemented. However, they do provide one of the most encouraging environments. My partner even says that she feels like she's been through a spiritual counseling by the time she leaves. All in all, we absolutely love the academy. We can see it in our son's eyes that Master Waugh is not just his instructor, but a mentor. This is more than just another Jiu Jitsu academy; it's a family.

What I like about his teaching style is that he will teach positionally, i.e. he will go over the options from a given position, and then transition into letting students get a feel for what option is "correct." This is perhaps the best way for students to develop a good game and is surprisingly rare to see in a lot of schools. I recommend training at Sloth BJJ for anyone in the area!
