I never really felt at home anywhere until I met the instructors at Hwang Martial Arts. Our family wanted to start but we did not have much money to spend. Their plans were the most reasonable around. I quickly found out that at Hwang Martial Arts it is not just another self defense school; it is a life changing experience! They teach that it is not just about self defense, but that it is about a change in how you live your life and act on a day to day bases. Furthermore, they are an integral part of all their students' lives. It does not matter whether your favorite is Mr. Chris, Mrs. Stacy, Mr. Weeks or Mr. Hall because they all have true interests in their student's lifestyle and health. My boys were very interested and I was unsure. When we sat down and discussed this, I found Hwang Martial Arts to be very affordable. Not only that, but my children had no male role model in their lives at all. Now they have incredible male teachers, who demand respect, but at the same time, give positive motivation, teaching the kids the most important principals of being a solid person. Not only did my kids take advantage of Tae Kwon Do, but I attended the Muay Thai classes for fun and exercise. I had no idea that Mr. Weeks and Mr. Hall would change my perspective completely on physical fitness and how much my mind, body and spirit require physical exercise. My confidence level was very low when we started and I didn't see anything extraordinary about myself. All of that has changed drastically in just a year. Now, when I talk about my life, about fighting techniques and working out, people are very intrigued. My passion and zeal for life have skyrocketed. I went from being another single mom to being an extraordinary, tough woman nicknamed "Killer". I've lost a lot of fear in going places with my children, and gained a lot of confidence in my ability to defend my family in an aggressive situation. The instructors tailor to every student and their needs all while conducting an organized respected class. The only reason why I give it four stars is because there is always room for improvement: I don't completely agree with the way the belts are "earned" by showing up and more discipline could be implemented. However, they do provide one of the most encouraging environments. My partner even says that she feels like she's been through a spiritual counseling by the time she leaves. All in all, we absolutely love the academy. We can see it in our son's eyes that Master Waugh is not just his instructor, but a mentor. This is more than just another Jiu Jitsu academy; it's a family.

Look this gym used to be my favorite place to be, and honestly even tho i am leaving i still wish…read morethe best for it. There are some things to look out for if you are considering this gym: 1. Be careful and read the contracts, i think they do an okay job with telling you, but remember canceling you have to "give" (whatever that's considered) a 30 day notice 2. When i left, there was no grace, the young blonde lady had some attitude and wasn't really friendly at all, (after i've been trying cancel for months but was pushed back or avoided some how) and that attitude kind of hurt because it made me feel like if i wanted to come back, i don't want to come back to that. In conclusion, it used to be a serious powerlifting/body building gym to be at, but it's slightly declined with that culture (i believe it's still there tho, and i've heard good things about their dojo) and if you aren't looking to go to a gym for that, than quite frankly the price just doesn't make sense, it will be easily 30+ dollars a month maybe a little cheaper if you get a contract. but there are gyms out there (and soon to be down the street) that are cheaper and with better equipment and facilities at that. look i've had some serious good workouts in the past there, and for the most part there is kind people, (some a little judgy) i just hate the bad taste left from that awfully passive aggressive conversation about canceling. but honestly Strouds is trying and you can tell, but just be aware of all that.
